21 New San Francisco Bay Area Restaurant Openings to Get Excited About, April 2025 | Eater SF

"The Bay Area-grown coffee team moved into the historic Tribune Building in Oakland, taking over the longtime Rasa Caffe space; the brand quietly closed its Polk Gulch shop but continues to have offerings available via a Ferry Building pop-up." - Dianne de Guzman

New shop with new owners from the last one. Very friendly, parties are fresh now and the coffee is great! Love the new vibe.

The coffee is great, the staff are friendly, the focaccia is delicious. The atmosphere is as good as it gets in downtown oakland. It’s nice inside and OK on the patio.

$5.50…For black coffee. Just say no….to gentrification. Rasa Coffee was here moments ago—Black-owned, all-queer staff, and frankly…much better coffee. When Rasa got sick, the community rallied. Fundraisers were held. But 20-something grand wasn’t enough against the relentless pressure of rent. The landlord didn’t blink. He just said “next” Enter: Signal Roasters. A warm, smiling white couple from Berkeley opens another link in their growing chain. The vibe? Polished. The staff? Slick / Pleasant. The drip coffee? $5.50... Not a misprint. Not ok. This shop is a literally a beacon for gentrifiers and placeholder for speculative real estate. And I bet the landlord gave them a rent break for it. If you care about who gets to stay in Oakland - just say no.

Just passing through, had a great cortado at the old Tribune building. Fairly bustling on a weekday morning.

Tried going twice now on a Sunday and it's been closed when it's supposed to be open. Can't even run a business page accurately.

Yelp
There are so many great spots for coffee now in Oakland, and Signal's new Tribune Tower location is just the latest. It's a small, minimalistic, yet beautiful spot just off Broadway with indoor and outdoor seating and perfect for grabbing some joe on the go. Service is gracious and friendly and, most importantly, the coffee is strong and delicious. All the subs and variations you need are here (dairy and non dairy/plant-based). They don't stay open past early afternoon, so be sure to check hours before going. But definitely add Signal to your Oakland coffee options! It's a win!

Yelp
This location has been a coffee shop for as long as I've worked in this area. Hopefully Signal lasts. Good service and decent coffee. Haven't had any pastries yet though. Middle of the road prices for drip coffee - not the cheapest and not the most expensive within a block. Cashless payments only, but they have a cup for cash tips. Scratching my head on this one.

Yelp
A welcome surprise. I ordered the espresso tonic, and it was phenomenal. Super refreshing, with just the right balance of bright citrus from the orange peel and bold espresso. The fizz gives it a playful twist that's perfect for a sunny day. The vibe is cozy and it's just nice to see some business in an otherwise turbulent area. Will absolutely be back!

Yelp
1st time visit. We ordered a few lattes and we went to the side to wait. The cafe was very quiet, but we didn't hear the server at all. He walked to our way and told us the drinks were ready. I went there to pick them up. There were no lids or labeled/writing on any of the drinks. I stood there for a moment. The server came to me and I asked how to identify the drinks. He did say he would remake them or I could just taste each of them to identify the drinks. Honestly, I couldn't tell any differences between the two drinks that he separated. I told the drinks, but I was not satisfied. (1) The server was super softspoken. I could take a benefit of the doubt to believe he did call us when the drinks were ready, but we couldn't hear anything at all. (2) The drinks were about $7 each on average. You would expect that it should be taller, but they came with smaller cup (~4 inches tall). I think it's a bit expensive. (3) None of the drinks were marked or labeled. (4) None of the drinks were covered with any lids or have any lids. (5) The server has not asked any of us for our name. How could he call us when the drinks were ready. (6) the vanilla latte tasted the same as the toasted coconut latte. Then, don't charge more for seasonal drinks. Anyway, this is considered my one-timer again. Sorry, I don't write bad feedback if it's not bad.
