Sik Bao Sin/Desmond Creation 吃飽先

A non-descript shop along Geylang Road, but fully packed during lunch time. There are only about 20 dishes on the menu so it is easy to choose. Most of the dishes tend to be robust flavour, good to eat with your white rice, but not too salty. Gave 4 stars only because of the price. 3 dishes for lunch without drinks cost about $85. Even though they don't sell drinks, they charge $2 per head for seating. I don't like this.

I’ve been eating (lunch & dinners) at Sik Bao Sin and Sik Wai Sin (original precursor opened and operated by Desmond’s parents further down Geylang Road) for close to 30 years. It is my absolute favorite home style comfort Cantonese food - period. The meticulous care to churn out consistent top notch quality signature Cantonese dishes to the table is unsurpassed. It is to their distinctive credit for staying true to a very tight menu, not expanding and opening more outlets or even expanding the seating capacity to ensure food quality. I’ve tried their entire menu many times over. It’s all good and very signature authentic. When SBS first opened - I was skeptical that it could match uncle’s dishes from SWS but Desmond can be v proud that he’s mastered it all from his dad!! Kudos. So whilst it can be a real pain finding parking in Geylang, very often got to wait for a table and then the wait for the food on the custom uncomfortable steel stools! - I’ve always left immensely gastronomically satisfied. Not forgetting to mention - cash only! Good way to shout a meal to unsuspecting guests in this day and age!

Located in an unassuming setting that requires guests to walk in without reservations, this popular eatery is a testament to Desmond’s dedication to traditional Chinese cooking and quality ingredients. One of the highlights of the limited yet well-curated menu is the Steamed Pork with Salted Fish—a classic dish that truly shines here. The flavors are perfectly balanced, and the pork is tender, making it a memorable and comforting choice. The Prawns with Special Sauce also stand out, with large, fresh prawns that are fresh and bursting with flavor. Likewise, the Steamed Fish Head is another must-try, beautifully cooked to perfection with a delicate texture and flavorful seasoning that showcases the skill in its preparation. Their menu offers comforting soups, including the nourishing Watercress Soup and the earthy Black Chicken Soup. Vegetable dishes such as Kailan with Garlic, Kailan with Prawns, and Kang Kong with Balachan/Garlic are all excellent accompaniments, adding freshness and a well-rounded touch to the meal. While the dishes are undoubtedly delicious, there are a few aspects that could be improved. The limited menu options may leave some diners wishing for a bit more variety, and the absence of dessert options is a small disappointment. Despite these limitations, the quality and taste of each dish more than make up for it. In fact, the flavors were so satisfying that our beloved chili sauce remained untouched throughout the meal, a testament to the seasoning and depth of flavor that each dish brings to the table. Overall, 吃饱先 is highly recommended for anyone craving authentic, nostalgic Chinese flavors served with skill and passion. Despite minor limitations, it’s clear that Desmond has crafted a gem of a restaurant that celebrates simplicity and quality, making it well worth a visit.

Despite repeatedly asking for small portions, the staff ended up ordering medium portions for all the dishes. *Unique aspect:* - You mentioned the "order before you sit" situation, which might be a unique aspect of Sik Bao Sin's service style. Overall, it seems like Sik Bao Sin has some delicious dishes, but there's room for improvement in terms of service and attention to detail. Perhaps they can work on better communication with customers to ensure orders are accurate.

This place is a good find despite the limited menu. We ordered the garlic kangkong and ginger chicken. The ginger chicken was really good. The ginger was fresh, well prepared and somewhat candied. Complemented the chicken really well which had wok hey and were boneless. No pics of the kangkong but it was really delicious.

They only accept cash and they do not allow birthday cake. Reached there 645pm on a Saturday and waited awhile to get seated. Started eating around 8pm. The salted fish steamed pork was good. The price was a bit on the expensive side though. Not sure if we will go back again to try other dishes?

Love the environment of this Chinese restaurant. Staffs are very friendly and welcoming. We had a very enjoyable dining experience. Thank you so much for assisting my grandparents for the drinks. Will come back again soon.

Recently dined at Sik Bao Sin Eating House and it was an outstanding experience! From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. The staffs were friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. Now, let’s tapk about the food- abaolutely delicious! Every dish we ordered was bursting with flavor. It was cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. Will highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a family friendly dinning place.
