Michigan Suspends More Restaurant and Bar Liquor Licenses for Violating COVID-19 Orders | Eater Detroit

"In St. Joseph, this hotel was issued a suspension by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for violating MDHHS epidemic orders that temporarily halted indoor dining, part of a set of establishments disciplined between Nov. 25 and Dec. 1. Its licensee is scheduled for a virtual administrative-law-judge hearing on Dec. 11 and could face further sanctions up to revocation as state enforcement agencies, supported by LARA, pursue strict accountability for noncompliant licensed operators." - Brenna Houck

We booked our stay at the Silver Beach Hotel due to its close proximity to the beach and the pleasant pictures on the website. The hotel was completely filthy. There are horrid stains on every carpeting in the hallways and in the guest rooms. The bathrooms were dirty as well. The bathroom door was coming off of the hinge and was very difficult to close. While showering one of the heavy glass doors fell onto me off of the track. The pool was not open as advertised, it was in disrepair and being used as storage. We also had a family of ants living around one of the beds. My allergies went haywire due to the buildup of dust above the headboard. Needless to say, we refuse to eat the continental breakfast. By far one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed. And for my disappointment in the hotel, I was offered a 10% discount off of my next day; I will not be cashing in.

Do not waste your money! Went for an overnight getaway with my husband. They advertise a pool...it was torn into concrete pieces. They advertise a bar...nope, no bar, just a very small dirty area up front that sells chips and water. The hallway to our room smelled like dog/cat/human pee. Says there is a microwave in every room, again, nope. And I was told floors 5-7 don't have microwaves. Ummm, ok. Called to voice my concerns, they could care less! And why would they? They already got my money. The only reason it got 2 stars are the bed was comfy and the location is great. Other than that, it is a smelly, rundown crap-hole. Spend a little extra if you want to stay somewhere that doesn't smell like pee. Lastly, the "Lakeview balcony" is about big enough for 1 person to stand on, no chairs, and you need binoculars to see the lake. Will never stay here again.

We just stayed 2 nights for nostalgia. We stayed there 10 years ago when we got married and it was Great! Room this time smelled musty and like mildew. Went to talk to the gentlemen and the front desk. I was told the hotel was sold out for the night. I asked what we could do? He looked at me and said nothing “ too bad”. I said what did you say, and another guy came over. Offered a room with 2 beds. I’m here for my anniversary. Can we change rooms in the morning? He offered to take some money off the stay and change our rooms in the morning. Fine. After doing some digging. Only the first 3 floors are renovated. Pool wasn’t working when we were there. The second room we were moved to smelled also. It wasn’t enough of a discount.

The lobby is decent, but the rest of the hotel looked outdated. The bed was very uncomfortable and extra sqeaky. The picture on all TV channels was fuzzy. Although the rooms have balconies, they are shared with the room next door and only separated by a railing. Our balcony didn't even have the railing partition. The vending machines were empty, but they had a few snacks & drinks for purchase. The pool was out of order, but showed as an amenity during booking. It smelled and looked clean. A card key is not needed to enter the back door, so anyone can just go in. Parking was an issue- both lots full. The location was the best pro of our stay there. Its located 1 block from the downtown district and a 15 minute walk to Silver Beach. I gave 3 🌟 only for its convenient location.

Google
I love this place. We get a room on the top floor (7th). This time we got a suite and it was great. Room was very clean. Bed was very comfortable. Great view of the Lake Michigan. The staff is very friendly. It's going to be our go to place when we return to St. Joseph Michigan again. The location of hotel is in a great spot. It's just minutes to anywhere. They have a big parking lot so parking is not a problem. 😎

Google
The room was clean and smelled nice. The bathroom however was dirty. There brown footprints in the shower. The shower leaked all over the bathroom, as did the toilet. We were not given the WiFi password despite asking 3 times. Breakfast was meh cereal, bagels, muffins. The halls were dirty with large trash bags sitting by the elevators for 2 days. We tried to call for fresh towels and no one answered the phone. Also we paid for a “lake view” but it was hardly visible. The door had a big gap on 3 sides. It also looked like someone had taken a crowbar to it at some point. The location is good though. Not the worst option, but not the best either.

Google
This hotel didn’t offer the best experience for our stay. We arrived to find our room hadn’t been fully cleaned, there was sand all over the floor. I know it’s by a beach and sand is to be expected but not when you first check in. They also say they offer a breakfast but it’s really just cereal, toast and yogurt, at least have eggs and waffles if you’re going to say it’s a breakfast. Our cards for the room stopped working during our stay so we had to keep going to the front desk to get them fixed. Also they need to get the carpets in the hallway cleaned,as they are discussing.

Google
Great location to walk to the shops and beach, but the hotel itself left some things to be desired. No AC was going in the lobby/weight room when we were there, and it was very hot. AC in the room was great. The free breakfast in the morning consisted of yogurt and bananas. The coffee machine used a frozen block of coffee that it thawed/heated up but that wasn't working. Definitely not the expected breakfast or quality expected. Loved the location but wouldn't stay there again.

Yelp
Just bluntly - not very clean rooms. The people that have said they got clean rooms must have been the lucky ones. While inside the rooms was admittedly better than the lobby/common areas, you can tell that there is absolutely zero investment into this place including making sure the rooms are cleaned thoroughly between guests. If I was here for more than one night, I would absolutely have switched hotels. Regardless, I would never consider staying here again, and I'd highly recommend steering clear of this place entirely.

Yelp
Well it wasn't what it advertised on the website I booked through! It specified a "Lakefront view" there's a huge building facing the hotel blocking water view that's 2-3 blocks away. It was on a 420 friendly hotel website , but the entire hotel they claimed was non smoking, yet the floor my husband and I stayed on was reeking of marijuana, not to mention the weed stems that were next to the tv when we checked in and got to our room. The hot water took 20 whole minutes to get hot, we were on the 6th floor.. other than that the room was really nice:)
google avatar

Yelp
Great location. Dated interior. Breakfast was not what we are used to for Continental. No hot option other than bagels, English muffins and oatmeal. There was yogurt- cereal and some fruit. Room was clean and bathroom was nice- walk in shower, no tub. At $140.00 per night and the location, it was ok. No frills, but we didn't spend a lot of time in the room, as we were there for the beach. Room was quiet, could not hear our neighbors at all.

Karen K.

Yelp
Great location. Friendly staff. . Clean, affordable, could use a decor upgrade. Not a high-end hotel but definitely gets the job done. Would stay here again.

Yelp
We stayed here for my girlfriends birthday week. They stated online that they featured a swimming pool, spa and removable shower heads, continental breakfast, all things we wanted. We came admittedly during off season however, the pool and spa were shutdown due to overall hotel renovations that we werent told about during the booking process. The continental breakfast was awful, there were warmers but they were empty and not turned on and upon looking into the mini fridge there were items that were suppsoed to be on the warmer ready to go but we had to do it ourselves. Only thing worth getting was a muffin i could get at a gas station instead. The breakfast was also displayed overnight and was never refreshed including the milk. I know this because everything we took the previous day was never refreshed by new or fresh products. The elevators were not clean and had suspicious stains on the button panel. Upon asking which floor had ice, we were told it was on the 3rd and 5th floor, we got out on the 5th and were asked what we were doing there like we werent allowed to be there. Our room didn't have removable shower heads either. The bathrooms were laid out in such a way you couldnt shut the door if you were on the toilet. We had our first room, dirty stains on the shower floor and white "stains" on the couch. We got another for free which was nice and was a tad bit cleaner. The front desk people were nice enough but seemed annoyed that I paid with cash and couldn't keep tabs on my card if I were to use it. The views and the fact that we were in walking distance of everything and had a floor to ourselves was a major upside. But that was about it. We won't be returning to this location and will find an AirBnB.

Yelp
This hotel is the perfect exemple for the quote: Don't judge a book by its cover. From the outside, it doesn't seem good at all, but going inside and meeting the staff make you change your mind already. Very clean facility, comfortable beads, the hotel is under renovations. We got a suite with two king beds, two rooms, for a very good price. The location was wonderful. Walking distance from Lake Michigan and the staff recommended a pizzeria that was delicious and beautiful too. A train station pizzeria! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Very disappointed with this hotel. The only reason we stayed here was because of the location and the deal we got. Our room had a disgusting wet/musty smell from carpet. It was so awful to breathe in and I'm not even kidding. There were hardly any outlets, so alarm clock and lamps were not plugged in. Our bathtub had a ring around it. Our sink looked like it went through an exorcism! Not to mention, there was a brown streak on the ceiling. I don't even want to know what that was. I'm typically not a complainer, but this place was gross. The front desk never asked us how our stay was either, so here it is. There's a difference between not being updated and not being take care of. We won't be back...

Yelp
I really really want to like this place, the people at so nice and it is very convenient for the location. But unfortunately the actual room was dreadful. I know they said they are going to be doing remodeling soon so I hope they get everything fixed. Cons- A huge crack in the wall with a random screw in it? Idk what the point of it was. Literal mold and grossness in the shower. There was pop splattered on the wall behind the tv Water stains on the ceiling above the jacuzzi They need do not disturb signs because I had 3 people ask for house keeping and we said no every single time. Jacuzzi needs to be updated. Sink was clogged. Pros- Front desk workers are great, super nice and very knowledgeable about the location. Pool (bring your own towels) Bed was clean. Smart TVs. Small balcony. Mini fridge, Kcup coffee maker and microwave. The birds are fun in the lobby.

Yelp
Well I booked this room using information based on their website. Booked a one night stay king spa room $149. When we arrived at 8pm on a Saturday 3/9/19 and walked in there wasn't a person manning the front desk. We stood forever just waiting for check in. It had a beautiful chandelier over the check in and a lovely fire going in the lobby. That's the best part of this hotel. Oh that, and the fabulous sparkling floor in the elevator. I was so excited after FINALLY getting checked it. It's basically ho hum from there....First the website said "large free standing hot tub" when in actuality it's just a spa tub barely big enough for two, stuck in the unlit corner of the bedroom. Jets blow out so hard that they leave giant red marks on your body. Its a giant 24" step In & out of the tub, but It's only about 5" deep so it didn't even cover my legs. Just basically a "bath tub". Nothing really romantic here. Probably should have utilized the bath and just shaved my legs instead. The towels are definitely motel 6. Old school rough and I say towels only in the sense that they are white and look like a towel but absolutely nothing you'd like to dry off with. When we arrived to our 6th floor "suite" the door looked as if it had been pried open a time or two. It would not lock with the dead bolt, only the inside slide lock. We actually propped the ironing board against the door so we could hear if someone decided to give her a jiggle. The curtains were falling off the rod in the room. The bathtub (the ACTUAL one) was disgusting. Mold & mildew all along the bottom edge. Thankfully I just used the HOT TUB as my bath. The bed... omg. Uncomfortable springy bounce-a-thon. Pillows were flat and hard and you need all 6 provided to just make one good one and only a sheet and a duvet on the bed that looking around the rest of the room one could assume that it probably isn't washed that often. I'm only passing through on my way to Detroit and thought the hubby & I would splurge just this once, on a nice place overlooking Lake Michigan. Unfortunately it's not all that. All this overlooks is another building overlooking the lake. We have an excellent view of the back parking lot. I could have saved about half & just stayed at our normal Best Western. One star at best. Skip this place if you're wanting romance. I can watch TV in a king bed cheaper more secure somewhere else.

Yelp
I wanted to remain positive but everything just kept going down hill. This is an old Clarion Hotel (Comfort, Clarion, Sleep chain) that is in DESPERATE need of a complete clean and remodel. It is old. It has an odor. Do not expect a five star hotel or service. This is a place you stay in tourist town for $150 per night when all the surrounding hotels are at least $300. It is one block from all the shops and just a few blocks from the splash pad, city park, swimming area, train station, restaurants, everything that is downtown St. Joseph. Carpet has holes, grime/mold in lots of places, rusty items in bathroom. There are 2 elevators that service the entire place. This morning one elevator broke down during breakfast service and the line (at least 55 people) wrapped throughout the lobby of folks trying to get to their rooms for check out, etc. Several people were asking the desk attendant where the stairwell was and we were advised that we cannot use the stairs because those doors only open for fires. As 15 people at a time are attempting to jam into a single elevator and the crowd is becoming hostile about not being able to use the staircase, the employees start sarcastically griping about what a great day this is going to be! If you just need a place with a bed, this is your place. If you are looking for luxury, head down the shoreline.

Jeremy K.

Yelp
Went to stay the night was promised a Handicap room. Didn't get it my room. So we could not bring in a wheel chair. Room was old and nasty. And our nice balcony had a million old cigarette butts in water cups and all over the place. Thanks silver Beach Hotel. You have renewed my faith in just pay the extra if ya want something nice.

Yelp
Location is great, if you're reading this you did more then me. I should have read this before I booked, I would have never stayed here. I was looking for location and closest to the shops. The bar they have at the hotel entrance is sketchy, lots of random creepy looking men hanging out at the bar as we unloaded our bags onto the cart. We get checked in, go up to the room, for $140 a night I would expect something halfway decent. There is mold in the room and bathroom, the curtain is falling off the window, the balcony looks like someone took a jack hammer to it and the bed is as about as hard as the floor. When we asked a local person about this hotel working at a store nearby she was like "oh..." Well, yeah I would never stay there... the hotel looks run down, just a lot of simple things you expect to be normal aren't. They left a half roll of toilet paper on the roll from the previous person who used this room. There are no power outlets to charge anything by the bed, rather I'm charging my phone on the floor by the back of the mini fridge. Just an over all bad choice, I take full blame for it, should have did my research, this was a last second decision, not that we stayed in the hotel all day, but after walking around and knowing we had to come back to this.. never again... random as well is the parrots they have down in the lobby in a cage.. just strange

Yelp
This place is gross and literally falling down. Our room was filthy. There was trash behind the night stand. There is clearly a leak causing water damage. My in-laws stayed in the room across the hall and their ceiling literally started falling down in the middle of the night and there was a leak in their bathroom. It's clear our room was not cleaned before we got there. The bed, sheets, and pillows are horribly uncomfortable. I would never stay here, again. It needs to be torn down.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
Unfortunately I did not check yelp before booking here and I did book late for Labor Day weekend. However, I should have done my homework because I would not have stayed here if I did.It was very pricey for the run down shape this place is is. It is also dirty. It was apparent that our bathroom did not get cleaned like it should have as there were long black hairs in the tub. There is also some staining on the bathroom ceiling that is either mold or water damage. With all the other bad reviews I really don't know how this place is still in business. Not coming back.

Yelp
AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!!!! hotel room stinks and was filthy! Bathroom tub and sink did not drain! Mold and trash in the room! IT'S ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is awful and everything is outdated! Paid way too much for quality, but location was close to downtown with restaurants, shopping and the beach. Sheets were stained, sofa was dark and we took a white towel and the towel got dirty with contact with the upholstery, GROSS! TVs were from the 90s and the channel guide was incorrect. No HDTV here. Enjoy the beach!!!

Yelp
We came into town for an event this weekend and because of our experiences here, I'm currently reconsidering our weeklong stay that we have booked for September. The handicapped accessible room I'm in is an outdated attempt at satisfying ADA Standards. Being in a wheelchair, having a proper ADA is very important. Along with this, the Accessible room next to mine has a dog in it that has been barking non stop since last night. There is now another dog on the other side of us barking, so the 2nd floor sounds like a dog shelter. This is our second room because the first room they gave us smelled like someone or something urinated all over the carpet. This smell is so strong it is impossible for the cleaning service to miss. It's beyond me how this hotel thinks it's acceptable to even give anyone this room. It also had a tub which I cannot use since I am paralyzed. The front desk didn't know which rooms had roll in showers so when they switched us to a new room they had us go and check rooms to see which one was accessible. I feel like management for this hotel doesn't care about making this establishment into a satisfying experience but only cares about supplying the bare minimum for their rooms and the people who stay in them. I feel as if they know people will still pay for rooms regardless of their condition.

Yelp
The only reason why I'm giving this place more than one star is because of the location. It's right by the city center and walking distance to everything. Otherwise I agree with most of the posts that this place is a bit run down and they seem to want to nickel and dime for everything. They must be desperate for the money if only they'd renovate they would do much better. The floors do seem a bit grimy in the hotel room, I thought they were damp at first. Apparently a lot of the toys in the toy room are broken and dirty. There's no way they come and clean them every day. My daughter came back with black soles on her feet. This is a good place to lay your head for one night but that's the max I'd be able to do.
google avatar

Anne E.

Yelp
I don't usually post bad reviews on Yelp- only if I like a place. However, this hotel's website won't let you leave comments or send emails so here goes: This place is a clip joint Totally dirty! We paid almost $300 to stay here for a night because of the location (which is great and beautiful). The staff doesn't ask you how your stay was- obviously because they don't want to hear it. They look miserable and the place is falling apart. DO NOT STAY HERE! GROSS!
google avatar

Frank L.

Yelp
Room was not clean. There were no bathing towels. I had to go the front desk to pick them up by myself. The light bulb was missing. No body showed up for fixing after reported to front disk. They canceled the breakfast without any notice....
google avatar

Dannielle C.

Yelp
Great location, but could use a lot of updates and maintenance. Rooms were dated and the bathrooms had rust and stains. Quite a bit of selection for breakfast which was great. Was ok for the night, which was all we needed, but wouldn't want to stay for an extended period of time.
google avatar

Colleen G.

Yelp
This hotel is heinous. It is extremely over priced for how filthy it is. It is barely a motel 8 quality. There is underwear on the roof. Cigarette butts and filth on our balcony. The sign looks as if someone gave it 2 wipes and decided to stop. Holes in the wall. Wall paper is falling off. Breakfast is minimal, good if you like to only eat fatty meats and simple carbs. I would not stay here if I did not have to. The bar music goes on until 12:30am and we could hear it in our room until then.

Anna S.

Yelp
This is the worst hotel I even been in. It's old, beat up and very, very dirty!!! I do not even want to talk about bathroom. When we came to the room and turn on the TV the smoke come out of the extension cord the TV was plug in into. It was green extension cord you use to plug in your Christmas light. I called the front desk and they told me they would fix it. Nobody come in. So we walk downstairs on our way out and told them about it. When we come back to the room it was not fixed. So I took the black, burn out extension cord and I walk downstairs. They send the maintenance guy, who come in with new extension cord which seems not to work, and then another, heavy duty construction one. Very time he touched the the out let it was going on and then off. Clearly there is something wrong with the electric outlet but no he touch it and it worked so he quickly left. Right after that it stopped working. It was not safe. I took it and plug it in the bathroom, so we survive the night! Please do not stay at this hotel!!! There is coffee machine and no coffee for it! Just to top it off.

Yelp
I love this hotel for it's location, and I will continue staying here when in the area because of that (plus the pet-friendliness!). I've stayed at better in the area, I've stayed in worse, and I've stayed in far worse. That being said, staying here is a bit of a crapshoot. You might have a clean room with a view, or you could have a moldy shower with questionable looking bed sheets. With no competition in the area this place will likely not change any time soon, so don't stay here if you're expecting a 5 star hotel experience or if you're planning to spend a lot of your time in your room. Also, to those who felt slighted after seeing the fancy lobby - did you not look to your left and see and see the Buoy Bar? Basically sums up the stay.
google avatar

Yelp
Much like the reviews below, I agree this hotel is rundown and overpriced but man is it a great location. *shaking fist* I've stayed here with others several times now and as of our last stay in December we will not be going back. The hotel bar has become (more) uninviting. It wasn't the worst place I've been before but now...... Now It's effecting the rest of the hotel and the staff/management do not care. With our last experience there was quite the crowd. some that was hanging around in the lobby and breakfast room. Some from the bar, some not (even after last call). It wasn't bad enough the the disruption but the unwarranted cat-calls and racial slurs put it over the top. And management does not care, while it's happening or later when brought to their attention. They were actually petty enough to wake us early (repeatedly) and harass us until our departure.

Yelp
We nearly did not book here based on the negative reviews posted- we had a late change of plans for the holiday weekend and nothing else was available, so we took a chance. Front Desk: The people we encountered at the front desk during check in and check out were helpful and polite. They tried to find us an upper floor room without success when we asked for it and they apologized that they weren't able to grant our request. Hotel Decor: Yes- overall the decor is a bit on the dated side, but not horribly so. I likened the lobby and the room that we stayed in to the decor of the older hotels just off "the strip" in Las Vegas. We didn't go to the hotel bar although we were tempted to just because of the other reviewer's "divey" comments. General bathroom comments: The room we stayed in had a detectable shower head in the fashion of the "Shower Massage" but without the massage settings and probably built more durable for hotel use. YES- when it was in its holder the shower head was a bit low, but it could be detached easily and held as high as your arm can reach. The shampoo/conditioner/bath gel dispenser in our shower was about 7/8 full when we arrived, but we found the product to be very watery. To really use it as intended requires quite a handful. There were also individual size bottles of shampoo and conditioner and a bar of soap in a small tray near the sink. Overall the bathroom was quite clean and logically laid out. Bed comments: I prefer a firmer mattress and the king bed in our room was somewhere between "firm" and "medium". The pillows were a bit odd- I couldn't figure out if they were feather or foam. I found them to be more on the uncomfortable side and wished that I had brought pillows from home. Other room comments: The room doors resounded with a loud bang if not closed carefully and the person in the room "next door" hadn't quite mastered the art of quiet closing which caused me to wake up with a start in the wee hours of the morning a couple of times. As another reviewer mentioned- the elevators were quiet and you had to pay attention to know that the elevator had arrived on your floor and the doors opened. The air conditioning (individual room window unit) was very weak and seemed to mostly be just moving the room temperature air around. A refrigerant recharge seemed as if it was needed. Facility comments: As others had mentioned, the location is ideal and there is a private parking lot (more about that in a moment) for guest use that is ONLY available for guests. We were dismayed that a few guests had parked trucks with boat/watercraft/trailer in effect taking up two spaces. We were fortunate to get one of the last spaces and would have been unhappy if we had been unable to park because of guests rudely taking up two spaces for in effect one vehicle. Breakfast was the usual Continental Plus fare- including scrambled eggs, sausage, breads, muffins, a few fruits, cereal and the ever present make your own Belgian waffles. There was quite a line at the waffle maker- so we passed on that because we were pressed for time. I feel that they could stand to have one or two more waffle makers available. With all of the families staying at the hotel for the holiday weekend- we felt it was unreasonably difficult to get a plate of food, eat and then leave to go to the beach (or whatever). Why do parents feel that their pre-schooler should pick out their breakfast items and fill their own plate (painfully slowly) when there are (many) others in line behind them? It may be a "cute photo-op" to the parents but it's agony for at least some of us. Cost- We stayed on a holiday weekend and paid a breathtaking premium room rate. The rate was comparable to what we paid per night last year at a true 5 star Northern California resort hotel with a 36 hole ocean side golf course on the property. The final word is that if the prices were a bit less stratospheric, we might consider coming here again. Unfortunately what we felt that we got was a 2 1/2 star hotel at a 5 star price (at least on a holiday weekend).

Yelp
We chose this hotels because of the good review and pictures provided. It was a great location and the price was reasonable. To my dismay, it was all a lie. As soon as we entered the hotel, the thick muggy atmosphere hit us hard. The door to our hotel was small and did not open all the way. The bathroom was unkempt like the the rest of the room. The fridge was rust and the freezer needed defrosting. There was a hot tub right by the bed and when I turned it on, it filled up with yellow water. The Keurig looked unsanitary and unclean. I asked if there is better room and I was told that we were already upgraded from our initial reservation. I was offered the room below. Needless to say, it was worse. We found a year old hotel that cost 30 percent down the road instead.

Yelp
Lots of pros and some cons but for the price I don't think we could have done better. Great location, everything within easy walking distance, beach, restaurants, etc. We were greeted by the fire alarms going off when we arrived so check in was a bit slow and dramatic. Decent view from our lake facing balcony. Our room was clean and bed fine. The staff seemed to be working very hard. Maybe we were lucky, one couple on our floor was livid their room had ants. Our's didn't, maybe they left something out, IDK. The dumpster right under our balcony was forgettable, as was the breakfast. Cold eggs and cold gravy with cold biscuits. So 3 star hotel but we had a 4 star time. I did like the parrots in the lobby, kind of kooky.

Yelp
The view from our room was beautiful over the water, and the room itself was nice. Totally worked out distance wise from everything very convenient, staff went above and beyond to help get extra pillows for our room. Price is a little high but you're paying for convenience

Yelp
It sure is tacky-- standard (old) cheap hotel furnishings, a peculiarly super-powered (but hard to control) air-conditioning unit, a continental breakfast that is barely to speak of, and a very raucous bar full of young people singing Sweet Caroline. But it did the trick. It's only a couple blocks from the water, it was clean, and the price was right. Hopefully, you don't go to a cute beach town to hang out in your hotel room.

Yelp
I give this place two stars because there is an indoor pool and the location can't be beat (except for like one other hotel in the area that was unfortunately way out of the price range). Oh, and Sheba was very kind and welcoming. Freya was rude and actually commented about how "the room [we stayed in] is usually 3 times the amount that you [we] stayed in". Ok? Thanks for letting us know and trying to make us feel bad about it. They offered us the room for that price. She also made it a little difficult to get extra things like pillows... just very weird and uncomfortable. Outdated rooms as everyone states; but that kind of comes with the low cost of the rooms in comparison to the surrounding hotels. The breakfast was your typical continental with some hot foods. I thought it was too salty/too sugary but my friend enjoyed it! The entryway and reception desk is beautiful. But it appears that's the only updated area!

Yelp
One star: it served its purpose and is LITERALLY the only hotel within 3 miles of downtown St. Joe and walkable distance to the beach. (Surprised a chain hotel hasn't opened one in this vicinity! They'd make a KILLING) Two stars: Don't know why people are complaining about cust srvc. Upon arrival, the manager actually checked us in (Freeman) and was genuinely nice and gave us tips on the best places to eat Three stars: Fun laid back dive bar attached to the restaurant itself. Hubby and I actually had a great time here (they have two pool tables and darts and an arcade game) The bad: Rooms are outdated and need hotel rehab stat. They are also small. The shower head is super short (it was perfect for me, I am 5'2") but my hubby is 6'0", so at the highest height adjusted, it maybe hit his shoulders.

Yelp
SO dirty. Our bath towels had hair and makeup stains all over them. Along with our pillows having hair on them. When I got into bed I could feel sand all over the sheets as if they had never been washed. You couldn't pay me to stay here again.

Yelp
This is my balcony... it doesn't sum up the room quite enough though. The toilet is broken, carpet is dirty, trash behind tables, dirty sheets, and weird smells

Yelp
Staff is nice but the place is not. Rooms smell like smoke and are old. You can tell the owner doesn't care about this place. Nice location but the price is high for the experience. I would recommend you spend a little extra for other places near by or go some where a but further. Note to the owner, Start giving a S***

Yelp
I can completely understand the negative reviews from people on here. The hotel itself was fine but the management especially a woman named Sheba and the rest of the hotel staff at the front desk really lack communication and could use some training on how to appropriately run a hotel. It shouldn't be so confusing when someone wants to pay for a room as a gift ahead of time. I am not sure how Sheba could read me my card over the phone to confirm and then still charge the wrong card. Or let the staff charge the wrong card... whichever it was..Completely incompetent. This staff should know that I was going to be staying here in October but that will no longer be a consideration.

Yelp
Paid 200.00 a night for this hotel. Walked in to staff fighting, needs updating severely, staff not friendly, While checking out, not even a thank you. Should have checked yelp before booking. Would never stay here again.

Yelp
Ok... this was a nightmare. I came years ago, it was awful, but we tried again. I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE BEEN TREATED BY A MANAGER SO TERRIBLY. I thought he must be joking. A simple question turned ugly.a complete psycho. Then I asked for some help from the front desk, she rolled her eyes at me and was rude too. Maybe they are used to rowdy crowds. We have small kids . The manager was so indignant I wanted to call the police. I just kept thinking he's got to be kidding me. So once again I tried to plan a beautiful trip for my kids and this hotel was as gross as it was years ago. I know everything is outdated and dirty, but I've never been treated so poorly by management. He must've been having a terrible day, because there was no reason for him to raise his voice. Anytime a man disrespects a woman, especially with her little children, he is just a dog to me. I wouldn't send anybody to this hotel. Truly disgusting. Place, people, old and dirty. I finally learned my lesson

Yelp
Paying purely for location- staff is friendly. Rooms and facilities are in need of desperate improvement. Checkin was delayed by 1.5 hours due to the rooms not being ready. Breakfast was ok other than it ran out quickly and the replenishment was slow.

Yelp
This place is like going back in time, and not in a good way. The carpet looks and smells like it's from the 80's. Half the lights in our room didn't work and the TV was hit or miss on what channels actually came in. The breakfast was surprisingly good compared to the rest of the hotel. The location was by far the best part of the experience and makes the rest of the experience somewhat tolerable. Some major upgrades are needed to improve the rating.

Yelp
Great hotel, very clean, good amenities. The bar staff was great. My girlfriend and I travel and eat out a lot, this was one of our better experiences, we'd highly recommend staying here. Jill is a great bartender

Yelp
Our stay included a clogged sink, an hour and a half of maintenance plunging it, dirty sink water sprayed all over the bathroom, and brushing our teeth in the bathtub. Customer service was equally as bad. After placing calls for a week straight, I finally got a hold of management and they would not comp the room. They also tried to blame us for not requesting to be moved (even though the hotel was sold out). Terrible accommodations and terrible customer service. Lower your expectations immensely if you ever have to stay here. And only stay here if you HAVE to. Sleeping in your car would actually be better.

Yelp
This is not the place to stay, trust me! It's outdated, poorly cleaned and overpriced for what it is. Oh not to mention during our stay we found dried blood on the curtains.

Yelp
We rented the presidential suite for the space of the extra room and bar area. We knew the hotel was outdated and did not expect pristine conditions....but for the price of the room I didn't expect a door that didn't lock and a ceiling that was losing pieces all day/night. There are double doors that lead to the living area. The locks work.....but my husband could literally push the door open from the outside. Thankfully we love local and he grabbed some wood wedges to help keep it more secure. When I mentioned it upon checkout the lady didn't believe that it was something that had been happening for a while. I told her it definitely looked like it had been shoved open several times and one of the locks was actually falling off. They can't guarantee any kind of safety for people or belongings in a room that doesn't lock at all. So disappointed.

Yelp
We stayed there for the night . The staff and the management team are horrible. They are ignorant and treat their guest as if they're unwanted . The hotel is very outdated . It felt very warm in there as if the air conditioning didn't work . Save your money n don't stay here . Paying for people's pay check who treat you like this is so wrong .

Yelp
I couldn't get over the smell that came out of the AC/heater unit. We had to sleep with the balcony door open. Bathtub filled with water as I showered. Pillows were old, yellow and lumpy. Customer service was nice at check in though. I'm upset with myself for not checking reviews before I booked it.

Yelp
This is by far the worst place that I have ever stayed at. The place was nasty, stuff falling off of the walls. The pillows had stains on them. It was so bad that I went to the store and purchased a blanket and my own pillow cover. We had to stay here because it was the only open place anywhere around. Out hallway smelled like weed and smoke. I will never in my right mind ever ever go here again.

Yelp
Super rough place. It's all been said in the prior reviews. Staff smoking outside of every entrance 24/7, disorganized check in process. Stayed with my dogs and happily paid up for the pet rooms, but the stains from everyone else's pets had never been addressed and were huge (hula hooped size). Prime location but completely substandard in every way.

Yelp
Very disappointed. I am an ICU RN and I drove down from Ann Arbor because I have 2 days off. Not able to use the pool because it is closed so we thought the children could watch TV in the late evening. No signal. 40 minutes later a person looks at it. can't fix it. Will send the manager back. 1 hour later, no manager. We ask to change rooms. Sorry, no rooms clean. 33 cars in the lot so the place definitely isn't full. But there are no rooms to change us to, so the person at the desk says. Then she says "you got a deal" as if this justifies bad service. Disrespectful. Its not fancy nor clean, its about location. Not worth it. There is no "customer service." She claims there is no escalation process and nothing she "could" do. I don't believe it. I do see however that she doesn't care.
