Yelp
DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY! They charged me a $6 delivery fee and I had two missing items. I called the driver and he said that was all he had. So I called the restaurant and they offered to refund me for the missing items. I said I wasn't happy with that solution because I wanted the items. They explained that I would have to put in a new order! In other words, the restaurant had no way of actually solving the mistake, they could only make it less worse. I took the refund and I'll never order again! In the current app world where order fees are cheap and sometimes even free, paying for a $6 fee and not getting all the order is completely absurd! And refunding just the items is not enough, we tip on top of the full value too!

Yelp
TOO SPICY! We have been going to Silver Diner on and off since it opened in Rockville in 1989. The new summer menu enticed us to go for a try. We ordered the shrimp taco and asked for it to be mild, since recently we had ordered the salmon and it was a bit on the spicy side and you could not really taste the fish. Despite this request, the dinner we got was "hot." We were expecting a 1 on a 4 pepper scale and the shrimp were more like a 2.5. Otherwise, the rice and beans were fine. Someone needs to fine-tune the kitchen. The desserts were wonderful! The brownie decadence saved the experience. For a restaurant that advertises as catering to the all the preferences in the family, I could not bring some members in fear they would be disappointed. Still love the music!

Yelp
shout out to Marco for the great service! He was charming and funny and looked like Dave Navarro in a hot way. The food was amazing! The bison huevos rancheros is a must have.

Yelp
I love a fun place to eat. You know what? Silver diner is not only fun...the food is on point. We took my aunt there before she returned home on one of her retirement road trips. Breakfast that Sunday was PACKED!! I don't mean regular busy, folks. I mean they musta been giving out free Jesus and Nike Air Jordan's kinda packed. This is a good thing. Busy restaurants don't serve stale food. Let me assure you - Silver Diner earns their frenetic pace. Service was friendly, prompt, and most critically - accurate. That is right. The down side of busy is that orders can become mismanaged. Thankfully, that was never the case for us. Every specialty request was handled correctly. This is impressive for any restaurant, let alone a diner. Food quality was again a standout. Orange juice was fresh, flavorful, and properly chilled. Pancakes were light, fluffy, redolent of yeast, and carrying that delightful crispy umami exterior from butter grilling on the plancha. Bacon and sausage were bursting with salty goodness to cut through rich syrup. All in all - the food was far better than I expected. We will 100% go back to Silver Diner. It only took us 15 years to try it but they have earned one more in a legion of welcoming fans. Diner well, my friends!

Yelp
I always enjoy visiting the Silver Diner. Staff and service are pretty consistent and good. The ambiance is also fun and delightful. As the place is usually packed with people during peak dinner or lunch time, I always come in a bit early to sit down and eat without much waiting. They offer various popular diner meals, all-day breakfast, and shakes/cocktails. Also, they have a seasonal menu so you won't get bored with their offerings even if you visit regularly or have some diet restrictions. I got summer watermelon and shrimp, which was a perfect fresh salad for a hot summer day. Nicely cooked and seasoned shrimp went well with greens and a light lemon dressing. Even though the portion looked pretty huge, I enjoyed various toppings such as pomegranate, quinoa, a hint of mint and basil and finished the big plate. My husband ordered tenderloin stake frites that came with garlic spinach and two other sides such as fries and chowder. Stakes were not like life-changing, but good. It also cane with pretty decent sides so a good deal for the price. I personally enjoyed the simple crab and corn chowder, which was creamy but not too rich or overly salted. I highly recommend their signature apple pie a la mode! Melty cinnamony apple slices are packed in a pie. Perfect dessert to end the meal! There is plenty of parking in a shopping mall.I'll come back again for sure!

Yelp
The food was delicious and fresh! I got the California Omelet with a side of guacamole. The diner vibe added to the dining experience. The service was attentive and consistent, and of course no small detail that the food was awesome. You could go here 5 different times and order something completely different each time!

Yelp
On a short work trip with my wife and we stopped in to Silver Diner twice... and both times were just "OK". First visit I had the patty melt. I like the combo of flavors, my only suggestion would be for a larger/more proportionate patty. Sourdough was excellent though. Fries were lukewarm Second visit I had the triple pickle chicken sandwich. I don't think it needs double chicken patties though. I thought the pickles onion complimented it very well, but thought it was lacking sauce - more honey mustard or even mayo would've been nice. Also, fries were lukewarm again too. Wife had the French toast (red/white/blue) which she enjoyed! No real complaints there.

Yelp
"We believe that better ingredients make a better meal. We also believe in supporting our community." This is what we know about Silver Diner. All about natural and organic until you order scrambled eggs which claim to be Amish and you know it's not fresh. Asked for manager who never came and poor waiter got the question. How are the eggs prepared? "Boxed that they pour out. But if you want shell you can if you ask for it?" Interesting. Not what I would expect from Silver Diner. I understand cost but I'm still paying the full price and getting the less quality. And can someone please explain why say French fries when you get these? Perhaps it's me! No longer a choice for my family and I. Hope the review helps others to order wisely.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite diners I've eaten at (and at this location). They're known for their milkshakes (aka my famous chunky monkey), but I've been trying to eat healthier lately and I was happy to see they had a lower calorie section in their menu. Service was average. We went on Easter Day, so it was quite busy, but we did have to wave down our waiter a few times. It was pretty busy with people coming right after church. The staff were all wearing bunny ears for the occasion which was a playful touch. A pretty casual diner but it feels very homey.

Shelly J.

Yelp
This location was somewhat disappointing. On my recent visit I came here with a friend. The restaurant wasn't that busy. After we got our shakes and our orders, that was basically it. Our server really never got back to check on us. I wish he had because our food was mid. Had our server checked on us, maybe it could have been rectified. However, I did see him and other servers on their phones. Like seriously?! I understand maybe checking texts that could be from home, but this was not the case. Both were like scrolling and surfing the web, etc, for about 5 minutes. Management is nearby not saying anything. I mentioned to my server about our meals. He did offer if inwqnr wanted something else to which I declined, because I didn't wanna wait any more. Most restaurants don't let their staff be on the phones like that, but to me , I blame poor mgmt. I had used a gift card here, and now I'm having issues with the balance leftover. I called their customer service number, and calling them is worse. They don't pick up nor return calls. So I hope they reply via email. Yeah, I wouldn't recommend this location.

Alice L.

Yelp
Great place for weekend brunch with family or friends. They have tons of seating but beware you will likely still have to wait if you go on a weekend. I got a shakshuka type dish and it was packed with flavor. It was topped with crispy chickpeas which tied everything together. I loved dipping the pita in the sauce as well. They also have traditional breakfast plates which the other people I went with enjoyed.

Yelp
I have yet to have a bad experience at any Silver Diner and this location lived up to the reputation that I have come to expect. The waitress was was really nice and service was good. The food was good and the portion size was adequate. The parking was great as well. If you are looking for good diner food, then Silver Diner can't be beat.

James P.

Yelp
Unfortunately, not the steak frites that I expected from the description on the menu. Service was decent. But not enough to make up for the mediocrity of the steak. Ordered a medium, the tenderloin came out chewy and well done. I suppose the steak frites are not the go-to here. I would recommend trying their burgers instead.

Helaine R.

Yelp
I went with a group of 11 today. We had to get 2 tables but it ended up working out well because we could hear each other talk. The place was busy and so the noise level can get high. The food that was brought out was 5 star worthy. Nice portion size and very visually appealing. Every dish was a winner. Service was excellent as well. I was happy to see the the diner going strong.

Yelp
I grew up coming here so it holds a special place in my heart. I met my mom here for lunch yesterday (a Tuesday). I was surprised how busy they were in the middle of the day on a weekday but they were able to seat us immediately. Service was quick, attentive, and friendly. I got one of the lunch specials - an asian bowl with flounder. My mom ordered the pot pie. My rice bowl was tasty and just the right amount of food. My mom and I were a bit surprised by her pot pie. It wasn't a traditional pot pie but (a healthy portion) of the filling in a bowl with two large triangles of crust artfully placed on top. I'm sure it was described as such in the menu but neither of us read it. Still, she enjoyed her food. I'll keep coming back here for many years to come!

Yelp
I had a wonderful experience at this Silver Diner (I didn't realize that it was a chain in the area). Although I stopped by during the Saturday morning breakfast rush, I (as a single diner) was seated at the counter pretty fast. Just note: if you are dining with a medium-large party (4+ folks), it might take some time to get a table during busy hours. I'm not sure if the restaurant accepts reservations because most of the diners were waiting in a long line for their tables. Although the line was quite long (at least 10 parties), it did move quickly. For my meal, I went with the Lumberjack Breakfast, which included two pancakes, home fries, two meats, and two eggs. I thought this was a great deal for $15. I really did not have any complaints about my food, and the portion size was very generous for the price. In true diner fashion, Silver Diner has an EXTENSIVE menu so I think everyone will find something that they will enjoy. In terms of service, I think that I benefited from sitting at the counter because I did not have make any extreme signals for someone to assist me. While I would not go out of my way to dine here, this place definitely will go on the list for a quick bite if I'm in the neighborhood.

Yelp
I love the restaurant and recently tried their Burrata Shakshuka off their seasonal selection. It was delicious and had so much flavor layered throughout the dish. The roasted squash was cooked nicely and soaked up the flavor of the pepper/tomato sauce. The burrata on top added in a nice creaminess that complemented the eggs. To top it off the crunchy chickpeas added a nice texture to the dish and the pomegranate added a nice brightness. The naan on the side was perfect to wipe up the sauce at the end. I can't wait to order this again.

Jerry B.

Yelp
I had the fried scallops with fries and cole slaw. It was just the right amount, not too much and not too little. The meal was very delicious. I ordered apple pie to carry out. Eric, the server was good checked to see if everything was okay.

Jennifer J.

Yelp
I wanted to really like this place. Maybe we just ordered the wrong food. The ambiance is exactly what it should be. I was really craving some biscuits & gravy so I got a side of gravy with a biscuit and some appetizer chicken fingers. You have to try to make gravy that flavorless. And the biscuit was nothing special. The chicken fingers were just plain old, not good. Hardee's has better chicken fingers and for half the cost. Honey mustard isn't bad, but it doesn't make up for the pathetic chicken. My husband got turkey chili. Asked if it had onions. Was told no. It has onions. We get the server to bring him a Caesar Salad instead. Who puts tomatoes on a Caesar Salad? Weird, but okay. But ranch dressing? Caesar should have Caesar dressing not ranch. Now onto the turkey dinner. Vegetables were barely seasoned mush. The gravy is supposed to be rosemary. No rosemary flavor. Overwhelming black pepper. Takes over all the flavor. Turkey is overcooked and flavorless. Mashed potatoes were good. Relish was the best thing on the plate. Great flavor to it. Overall, just a huge letdown of a meal. :(

Yelp
After posting the review, the general manager and I were able to connect. We went back to Silver diner, and our meal was much better. I ended up getting the crabcake and my fiancé ended up getting the chicken with quinoa . It's nice to see that you can give things a chance and there is improvement .

Yelp
I am a long time customer of Silver Diner in Rockville. I also went to the one in Tyson's Corner, VA last week. Breakfast is the best thing to have here. I love the eggs with grits and corn beef hash. The bacon and sausage are great here also. I like their sourdough toast. Coffee is okay. The service is always top notch and friendly. The 50's old style New Jersey style diner decor with jukeboxes makes for a fun atmosphere. I had many a breakfast and lunch meeting her when I worked in the DMV. The Silver diner is like being home again.

Peter L.

Yelp
I have and always will be a huge fan of Silver Diner and have been going to the Rockville location (Pike & Rose) to the current location since day one and todays review is a "heads up" to the management. Been going to SD 3 to 5 times a month for 20+ years and recently I have experienced service that is well beneath the standards I am used to. A couple weeks ago the service was so bad that management gave us free entree vouchers and apologized - things happened again - slow service - slow food delivery - just a lot of the staff not caring - the older senior staff are delightful and it's the new faces that seem to be less excited to be there - just an observation only and we will continue to be fans - just a friendly reminder that we care about Silver Diner!

Yelp
Amazing diner. Great find. In the local area looking for a good restaurant for a class gathering dinner and was recommended by another classmate. It is located on Rockville Pike, crossing Twinbrook/Rollins. Good amount of parking space since it shares a large parking lot with the rest of the shops in the plaza. Environment was quite lively and noisy, good comfortable red sofa seats similar to Ruby's. We ordered a few main courses and desserts including the Shrimp watermelon salad, Taco salad, breaded pudding. Amazing salads; food was surprisingly plentiful and flavorful. Shrimp was grilled to point. Great seasoning in the salad with mixed variety of vegetables and olives. One of the best salads that I have had. The bread pudding came with vanilla ice cream; the wonderful mix of cold, hot and sweet definitely filled my craving for a dessert. Most of all, we had a wonderful young server, Wilmer with the curly hair. Don't be fooled by his young age; he was extremely attentive, patient, remembering every order plus instructions (having the dessert come after the meals, refilling drinks etc), and very friendly and happy. All servers should learn from his great attitude. Will definitely come back for other dishes in the future. Keep up the good work Wilmer and Silver Diner!

Yelp
Chef Ype Von Hengst has created menu items that I would not associate with diners. I love his entrees. There are so many healthy and delicious options. I love the summer cod and the Warm Roasted Local Veggie Salad. I also love their omelettes and more regular diner fare. Their food is never oily or greasy, however and the place is clean. They have the best milkshakes in town. Period. This place has consistently good service and wide menu options where so many things are good. It is one of the best places for a solid brunch. You know what you're getting and you will never be disappointed.

Shayna H.

Yelp
Silver Diner is always my go-to place. Amazing and huge variety vegan options and dairy free options. There is a very lovely outdoor seating area that is shaded under a big tent. There are lights at night so you can go when the sun has set. The food is served in a reasonably timely manner. The food is really what makes the silver diner shine in my opinion. Their vegan milkshakes are to DIE for. My favorite thing I've had there though is the vegan eggs Benedict. I have no clue what's in it that makes it vegan but I don't care. It's next level. I will never stop being a silver diner STAN.

Brandon A.

Yelp
Met my girlfriend's parents here! Great food, good service, and nice old school ambiance. Will always have great memories of this place.

Sylvia D.

Yelp
The Nutella shake is my fav I've tried almost every single one they've had and this one just makes me happy lol. Ad far as the the French toast it was overwhelming sweet. It had way to much going on as far as the candied walnuts then sweet cream and chocolate it's too much. Due to this it sits heavy as a dessert or breakfast. We had a lovely waitress to who made everything was fine and made sure everything arrives in a timely fashion. I do enjoy this atmosphere as it's definitely kid friends when you have little ones or if it's just a group of friends getting together.

Annette S.

Yelp
Best shakshuka I've ever had. Wish we had this restaurant in Minnesota. We ate here 3 times in 5 days and could've had it every day of our vacation!

Irena P.

Yelp
Ordered food to go but was so hungry, they allowed me to sit and eat it at the bar/counter. Delicious burger, cooked to perfection. The milkshake was so creamy i will be back for more!

K D.

Yelp
We were pleasantly surprised by how fresh and delicious the food was! It completely changed our perception of a diner. We went for a late-night meal and received great service.

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Service is extremely slow and there's about 10 people around the counter. When picking up an order from the counter no one will ask if you need help. Food was ok

Steve N.

Yelp
Wilmer rocks (our server). The Philly Steak Omelette and Chicken Caesar salad were awesome. The old school hospitality and vibe are uncommon. Well managed and welcoming.

Rocky R.

Yelp
Ilyas was amazing. He went above and beyond for us. Recommended foods, drinks and everything was amazing. The place was nice and clean as well. Thank you Ilyas for your amazing customer service. We all appreciate you.

Diana G.

Yelp
Silver Diner has always been good, but lately it's been bad. I went recently this past week and I asked for a hamburger, well done and fries. My fries were super stale, I asked for a remake on the fries and 1 minute passed and the server came out with another set of fries but they tasted the same. I was pretty sad about that. I didn't want to be annoying so I didn't ask for new ones twice. Got into my burger and it was raw from the inside, completely pink. I'm really disappointed on my experience. I truly believe I would've had a better experience elsewhere.

Karen L.

Yelp
Took my other half for breakfast and he loved it. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Definitely coming back.

Cheryl T.

Yelp
Consistently reliable --especially late night take-out. Called on my way home and pick up was ready when I arrived. Ordered the Brussels sprouts, the salmon Caesar salad and western omelet for the next day! All yummy yummy! Donald checked me out and was so pleasant and kind. While staff is diverse, I would love to see more Black staff and servers and staff! (Wink wink).

Najae C.

Yelp
My mom and I stopped in for a late lunch after an appointment in the area. We were seated right away but waited about 15 mins before our waiter came over to take our order. After finally coming over, our waiter was very nice and helped make some recommendations. We started with the kickin crab chowder soup, and I ordered a burger that I created with my own toppings and the peppermint patty shake. The soup was just as delicious as I remember from back in the day. The burger was okay. It could've used more sauce. However, the star was definitely the shake!

Allie K.

Yelp
I've been to the Silver Diner multiple times over the years while visiting family, and it's always consistently average. This can be great for some people, not so great for others, pending expectations. Service: 2/5. It honestly seems like sometimes the wait staff just disappears. If you'd like dinner and dessert, or an appetizer and dinner, plan on two hours. For me, that's a lot for a casual restaurant. Food: 3.5-4/5. Pending your dietary restrictions, I would say, will decide your rating for food at the Silver Diner. No restrictions? I'm sure it's great. My table had salad, crab cakes, and an omelet (breakfast is served all day) and they enjoyed the food. As far as allergens go, they are good at cross contamination procedures, but the gluten free replacements are lacking. Except for the brownie, that was delicious. Our food came out at different times, including desserts, which left some at our table upset. All and all, a good place to go for an average experience, a lengthy menu with something for everyone, and a place to spend some time.

Giselle P.

Yelp
Silver Diner has always been a staple. Their ever evolving menu does provide more options for those who are health conscious, as well as maintaining classic favorites. A new item on the list that is my new go to is the bruschetta with burrata. It is just the right size and extremely filling. The pesto adds a punch to the tomato. The hot honey drizzle is absent on top of the burrata. You can't come to Silver Diner without getting a milkshake! The service was good, our server, Dona, was attentive and made sure to check on us periodically.

Sally M.

Yelp
We are usually a breakfast patron. But my husband had a hankering for biscuits and sausage gravy for dinner, so we came at a new mealtime for us. My scallops rocked. Our server, Javier, we learned had just started 3 days ago. Such a big menu to become acquainted with! Javier rocked. Very solid, very friendly, a great waiter! We lo9k forward to having him wait on us again!

Sean M.

Yelp
I've never had a bad time at Silver Diner. Their meatloaf is so good. The ambiance keeps me coming back to when times were simpler. The waitstaff is always attentive.

Jailene A.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this diner but it's always packed on the weekends (good sign), so I came early on a Monday morning and was immediately seated. The service is fantastic here. My coffee stayed full and the server was always around when needed. Silver Diner has a nice "flexitarian" menu, which has a lot of options for vegetarian and vegan folks, and lighter options as well. I was surprised that the menu was heavily focused on lunch, and not so much breakfast. Although there were enough breakfast options, I expected a diner to have more. The ambiance is great, with retro booths and lighting, jukeboxes at the tables, and just an overall family friendly vibe. The food was a mix of great items and good but not remarkable items. First, the must orders: the roasted home fries. Omg!! These were the best home fries I have had at a restaurant. Most places seriously underseason breakfast potatoes but these were perfectly garlicky and salty. 10/10. The coffee. Fantastic coffee, I drank it black. The skippable items: the pancakes. I was not impressed. Pancakes are a necessary item for me at a diner and most places do them very well. These were just a bit too thick and cakey without any fluff. TLDR; I like that this place has options for everyone, with great substitutions and alternatives (ie chicken sausages, turkey bacon, and vegan eggs). My favorite diner food here was not great, so I'll need to try something else next time.

Yvette S.

Yelp
Great place to go for an authentic feel for a diner. It has awesome selections to cover all types of diets or lifestyle choices. Our server was Dennis and he was very welcoming.

Rick S.

Yelp
My wife and I hadn't been there in years It definitely hit the spot Really good food Fantastic ambience

Andy F.

Yelp
10 dollars for a milkshake ?!?! Restaurants charge that for a glass of wine Price gouging at its finest 1000 percent markup for a dollars worth of milk and ice cream otherwise fine service

Kerisha S.

Yelp
Walked in and was seated fairly quickly and service was okay. Nothing really to note. However I did appreciate that someone that looked like the manager came around to check on all the tables. Ordered a club sandwich with fries and a milkshake. You really get a lot of food for the price you pay. Milkshake was tasty as always and the food was average however due to the ambiance and the laid back vibe of the place, it really gave me time to sit back, talk, laugh and enjoy my meal. Coming here, you do escape reality for a moment.

Tracy B.

Yelp
I give this place five stars all the time. They have a great, wide variety of food. The new Local Burrata Bruschetta is the best! It is absolutely delicious.

Dan M.

Yelp
Friendly people but really not great at service. Strange when that happens. Cool atmosphere with nice outdoor seating area. But we had soup drama. I kept my Chicken Noodle Soup drama to myself and just ate it. But it was way more soup than chicken. There might have been four pieces of chicken and five noodles. The other soup drama was crab vs clam. My sister (hadn't seen her in many years) said she ordered crab and it was clam. The waitress said it was crab. It was a friendly debate yet still the fist time I witnessed a crab vs clam debate. Very exciting. If you have a minute, please look at photo and let me know hour opinion. The other soup drama was that she gave me a soup spoon and my mother and sister teaspoons. I didn't notice this until I started eating so they were stuck with their teaspoons. My mother only ate two bites anyway, and my sister didn't know if she was eating crab or clam. I don't know why I'm giving this place a 4. I guess a smile can go a long way.

Diane K.

Yelp
Fast service. Tasty food. Close to my lodging at the Hilton. I love that they serve breakfast all day. Fulfilled my breakfast fix.

Charlene C.

Yelp
So I am done having eatenfrom this continuously odd handmade menu and my leftovers are in a box that when I open it back up to check everything is in there to take home... a man shouts out from inside there. What the HELL!! r
