One Killed, Two Others Injured in a Shooting at a Northwest Portland Pizzeria and Bar | Eater Portland

"At the pizzeria and sports bar on Northwest 21st Avenue, I learned officers arrived just before 2 a.m. after reports of gunfire; by the time they reached Silver Dollar Pizza three men had been shot, one of whom died at the scene while an ambulance transported another to a nearby hospital and the third left in a private car. A nearby resident told The Oregonian she heard "between eight to 10 shots" and "...the sound of a person screaming." Portland police say the suspects fled before officers arrived, no suspect description has been released, and they are searching for witnesses. Eater Portland has reached out to Silver Dollar Pizza for comment, and the story will be updated as more information becomes available." - Alex Frane

Google
I ordered a vegetarian pizza w pepperoncinis. Waitress read it back correctly, but they brought out a pepperoni pizza instead. They did make it right and bring out the correct pizza a bit later. The pizza was good. The salad wasn’t the greatest, and neither were the onion rings. Lots of TV screens to watch sports on, but most of them had a TV show where you can’t even hear the volume, or Jeopardy on it. They do have video, lotto, and ping-pong tables. I would probably give it another try.

Google
this place is in my top 5 favorite portland spots. it’s AMAZING to watch sports here. great food great drinks reasonable pricing lotto outdoor seating and tons of arcade games including FOOSBALL!

Google
"Gambling's fair and nothing really to brag about.". To reply to the response what I mean to say is there's only a few machines and it's nothing great but I usually just go to places like that to gamble does that help you. And to clarify further when I say nothing to brag about I've never won anything there but that's on me pizza looks good though but I wouldn't know I haven't eaten it

Andrew W.

Google
Love the place, going on a Friday night thought it would busier if younger folks with the pool tables and ping pong. Great assortment of stuff to do with video lottery machines. Always enjoy going back when in the area.

Alyxander P.

Google
I personally don't like sports bars but it's really quick and good pizza for a gourmet that is less than 30$ for a restaurant style pie. I wish they had calzones next

Brenda Wallace T.

Google
We stopped in for just a quick drink and to check out the place. The food was okay, the drinks we spot on (I can be a bit picky) We shad seen some of the negative reviews, but I try to remain open minded, especially when they all seem like they come from the same group of people and sound like a planned attack.. so why not give it a shot, right? The food was okay. Good, nothing mind blowing. The drinks and our bartender were great! Tough girls behind a bar, who can hold their own is refreshing, and she seemed very down to earth - I appreciated that, it didn't seem like a fake interaction (enough fake people out there) We will be back

Sleepy S.

Google
I went here with my bf and the music is great and the atmosphere was great too! They have pool too, but we forgot to bring quarters so don’t forget to bring quarters lol.

drew

Google
The food is fine and drink prices are reasonable. Use to come here to play ping pong/pool and watch sports. But the service has been awful lately. There’s a new bartender who’s pretty rude, and the ping pong is $4 now (plus you have to order a drink apparently?) where it used to be free.

Yelp
Bar with 2 ping pong tables, arcade games, drinks, pizza, and sports on TVs? Sign me up! Great place to kill time and have a good time. Slightly dark and dingy inside but worth it. Good service and good vibes due to the games and sports atmosphere.

Yelp
If you're into mega screen sports bars, this is your place! You might bring your blue blockers because most of the walls are covered in televisions. The good: there was a variety of what was on every few screens. A small group got situated in the 'game' room and was able to ask the bartender for help changing the channel of the televisions to their taste. The bad: how do you even hear or concentrate?! The back story: We arrived an hour early to the Yelp Elite event at Kells brewery. I must've gotten my wires crossed, but we were parked and decided to stroll the block looking for a place to grab a nibble to tide us over. I'd never been to the Nob Hill area, and loved the walkability. We must've passed 5 pizza options before deciding where to stop. There was plenty of seating available, and we made a bee line for the bar where we were cheerfully greeted and given drink and food menus. I haven't been to a bar since I quit drinking 11 months ago, and when asked what options were available, I was quickly accommodated with a deliciously refreshing muddled non-alc cocktail. I truly miss good pub grub and I could tell by their selections that they knew how to keep their sports fans happy! Our mozzarella sticks came out piping hot and seemed to be freshly made rather than frozen. Despite the numerous screens, I was able to enjoy a nice conversation with my brother and catch up on some quality 1:1 time. We both shoved slices into our face and wrapped in record time for the next shindig. The pizza was delicious with enough left over to take home to my bottomless teen.

Yelp
Because I love this place so much I would love to give it five stars for the amount of fun I have there on a regular basis. This is one my 2 favorite neighborhood bars that have ping pong. I love how the ping pong tables create community. With the simple act of asking to play winners of the next game two years ago, I met someone there who I now consider cry for the to one of my closest friends. The staff is fantastic! I adore everyone who works the and the place feels like family. Oh, and their veggie pizza is outstanding! r So why only four stars one might ask? So as not be redundant just read Ko O's review about the chairs. They're crammed into each other so tight people can only sit on the outer edges;they create a horrible block and stuckness feel in the room and they make it ridiculously difficult to retrieve ping pong balls. Other than the dang chaos it's a great funky neighborhood bar!
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
Pizza is not very good and for a dive bar they don't really have any cheap beer options surprisingly. I do like the basketball game though that they have. They also have an AMI jukebox, but unless you play music, it can be pretty quiet. Lot of TV's though is a plus.

Jasmine G.

Yelp
Pizza was great! The lady serving the drinks was super nice and friendly the environment was great lots of games to play with friends and they have slot machines

Shayne H.

Yelp
Epic bad pizza Just cardboard no effort Makes me pine for the days of Rocco's on burnside You'd be better off getting pizza out of the freezer at nearby Fred Meyer

Yelp
I have been a regular patron of Silver Dollar for over 20 years. It was always a fun place for me and my friends for years. With regret, I have decided not to return there. Over the years, I came to know the proprietors well, we shared many memories, they are a wonderful family. Unfortunately, after Sam's son took over, the place seems to have suffered. The proprietor is not friendly. The fun sporting diversions (pool, ping pong, etc) came into ill repair. The people I always enjoyed meeting there stopped going. And now regretfully, my friends and have decided to do the same

Yelp
Silver Dollar is what it is ~ a sports bar during the day and grunge bar at nite. When you got the late nite binges, the pizza is 7 silver dollars per slice if you add a couple toppings. The wait for it was so long, ended up ordering a beer and finishing it before the pizza was ready. The smell of cannabis was too strong; had to get a to-go box and jet on out.
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
We first went next door to North 45 to watch the Women's World Cup Final, but the patio had one crummy TV and there were no seats. Silver Dollar has ~22 newer TVs and ample seating! Service was very friendly and relatively fast. Unfortunately, the breakfast was borderline terrible. It's obviously not their speciality. Come here for sporting events, drinks, and maybe pizza.
google avatar

Sena G.

Yelp
This place is fun if you can handle your own and the chicks you"re with are justifiably hot!

Yelp
Was in the area on a Monday evening and saw multiple tv's playing MNF so I stopped in and had a few drinks while the game was on. The bar tender was friendly & the pizza looked good , I didn't have any but I'll go again for some.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. This little wanna be cool punk that was working tonight ended it. He's too busy trying to get with the "talent". Said I wasn't coming here "long enough for him to care." Not sure if he's trying to compensate for something under the bar but even the people around me, I didn't know, were embarrassed for him. You'll never get another dime from me. Great hiring practices. Aces. Peace

James S.

Yelp
I think if this place was a little bit more family friendly, they would get a lot more business. I went there to watch football. It was dark and cavernous and the bartender was rude. I was hoping to have a good time and enjoy watching my football team play, but no. I will never be back. I stopped eating your pizza two years ago because it had gotten so horrible. I won't ever be going back too Silver Dollar Pizza. Back 10 years ago it used to be a great place to eat, but now it's like nobody cares about the food or the customers. They definitely make sure those video poker players, keep pumping their paychecks into the machines. The Video Poker Players get paid out, even if the bartender in in the middle of helping someone else. Bye..

Yelp
This is our go-to spot to watch sports! Tv's everywhere and I do man EVERYWHERE and that the primary reason for the 4th star! Typical bar food options that I would put slightly above average bar food for some options but not anything to write home about. $2 Jello shots!!! But they are smaller than usual, so heads up on that. They've got probably 10 beers on tap guessing. They carry White Claw for you ladies, hydrators and weight watchers. Typical mixed drinks. Pricing is on par with typical drink prices, at least they are not high. The workers are all very friendly and attentive. There's a good but if seating available. They've got two ping pong table as well some arcade style games like my favorite basketball hoop one and the punch to see how hard one that are now closed probably b/c of COVID. They are open though and even have indoor seating open now. They've got some outdoor seating in the front too. They do offer pizza by the side which is a great idea but falls semi short on the delivery. I would suggest not getting the chicken or zucchini topping add-ons b/c it appeared the chicken was some precooked type that they just threw on top the slice and threw in the oven for a few minutes. The zucchini topping was soggy and half the chicken looked not heated enough. I have better things to say about the wings. I got them extra crispy and those are always good. Ranch was good too. Spicy wings here appeared to be wings dipped in the typical Frank's hot sauce so they did the job.

Yelp
I went here and the ID checker out front questioned my out of state ID. I said are you kidding when he asked me to step aside. He then let a group of about 10 in only checking the African American for weapons by asking him to remove his coat when he let people in my party in before me without checking them for weapons. Don't let this racist place in PDX fool you this was 11:30 pm November 5th 2021check the security cameras you'll see the evidence
google avatar

Yelp
Ridiculously low quality ingredients and the garlic powder they use is gross. The dough would be better used as the sole of my shoe. Can't believe I paid money for this.
google avatar

Kellan G.

Yelp
Ordered delivery pizza, it was alright. Dough wasn't great, pretty dry and cardboard like texture. Otherwise not bad, but there's too many better options for pizza in Portland that I'd probably only get pizza here again if I'm there in person drinking with friends. It's probably a pretty good option for that.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars I would. I will never return to Silver Dollar Pizza. I came here New Years Eve, to meet a few co- workers of mine. I arrived around 10pm or so, easily was let in with my out of state ID (Nevada). Then my boyfriend, his friend and I went to check out the other bars and wait times around the area. Ultimately we ended back at Silver Dollar, and the bouncer instantly came out and told my boyfriend and I, "nope not letting you in, these ID's are fake". He kept asking if we had other forms of ID's because since we live in Oregon... we should have Oregon ID's? I showed him my student ID, since I go to college in the area. He started getting aggressive because my student ID didn't have my birthday on it. Lol. He was clearly intoxicated, as he was stumbling around, and l could smell liquor off of his breath, while he was checking my ID. I kindly told him, this is my real ID and you already let me and my boyfriend into the bar earlier in the night. He replied, by saying, "ok fucking bitch, it's a $350 fine for going into the bar underage". As my boyfriend and I walked into the bar, he began to follow behind saying, "if you're going to keep being a bitch I'll kick you out". Very professional... I wouldn't recommend this bar to anyone. Trust me.. there are much better places to visit within the area. Such a joke of a establishment. Tons of underage people in here, yet he gives of age people a hard time.. Lol.
google avatar

Sam B.

Yelp
This is a prime place to watch sports as you are completely SURROUNDED by flat-screen televisions and most importantly, there's decent beer! There are even more TVs above the 360-bar, so there is no way you're missing any sporting event you come here to watch. It's a pretty big bar with shuffleboard, arcade games, and ping pong tables (don't know about beer pong... doubt it?) The crowd was younger and somewhat more belligerent than I usually hang with, but hey, it was the Superbowl! The bar was busy-ish of course, but we found a perfect spot at the Pacman table and chilled until halftime. I wanted to get some food here, but I could not bring myself to do so once I saw the pictures on Yelp of the food -- especially the pizza and breakfast. They just look sad, sad, sad.
google avatar

Yelp
The worst pizza I've ever had!! Don't even bother. Over 30$ with postmates!! Burnt cheese, no sauce, cardboard cutout bs.. not everyone smokes weed here and think your pizza's bomb and can't tell it's crap....but this girl can ...cause I'm still hungry you mother effin non pizza makin cardboard bakin , non sauce flakin, old people food tastin, tried to play it out but your pizza be fake n,couldn't eat it cause my teeth keep breakin, no sakes for goodness sakin. Your business soon be downing under the lake N!

Alanah H.

Yelp
Horrible customer service, man answered the phone with an attitude, rushed me to order when I was trying to name off the ingredients I had seen on a picture. Hung up in my face I called back he acted like he couldn't hear me And the pizza look so good but he was rude as fuck . Sorry not sorry
google avatar

Sara L.

Yelp
Don't like this bars or the food. Yeahhh no. It's dirty and a over run with teenagers most nights.
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
This place is great for a weekend! The pizza is fast and good. The appetizers are sub bar. The bar tenders are very aware of their surroundings. They make sure the tables are clean and guests are taken care of. We called back and they answered the phone immediately, very attentive! Ping pong is $1 but you have to wait in line. Will recommend!
google avatar

Thao T.

Yelp
I engaged in friendly conversation with the patron next to me, only to find out he was the owner! When you walk in, bartenders will greet you warmly. TVs &Friendly sports fanatics everywhere! Thanks Sam for making me feel at home! The pictures posted here don't do it justice! Visit this place and see for yourself :)
google avatar

Carter K.

Yelp
Seriously the worst pizza I've ever had. Straight out of a freezer. I eat tombstone, and freezer pizza at home too and somehow this was infinitely worse. Mad I paid $2 for this sh*t
google avatar

Aakash R.

Yelp
Wow. I've been to this bar many times but never had their pizza. Forget about how fun of a bar it is; try incredible Pizza. We got the gourmet veggie pizza. It took a while to cook it but it was worth the wait. That being said, I also thoroughly enjoy playing ping pong and hanging out with friends here. I wish they hadn't added a third table because the space is really tight, but it's still a good time.

Alvaro L.

Yelp
This place is amazing especially if you're trying to watch the Super Bowl. Beers are great and wings are great
google avatar

Ko O.

Yelp
I come to Silver Dollar pretty regularly to chat with friends and play pong. A few months ago they added a 3rd pong table. Unfortunately now the tables are only a few inches apart. Not good even for a fun game Even worse is the sea of 16 tables and 64 chairs (yes 64!) in a 10x20 area right next to the tables. Almost always empty, downright depressing and a pain to deal with This is my first yelp review. I wrote it bec of dozens of friends that would like it to go back to the way it was
google avatar

Kenneth B.

Yelp
We ordered a pizza (it was super delicious) half with no cheese. We complained about it and the bartender Sam basically offered to do anything to help us out or refund it and make us happy. He even offered to remove the cheese from the pizza for us and refund it which was honestly unnecessary. His service is awesome and his attitude was superb. Good food, good drinks and awesome service. 5 stars give this man a raise!!!
google avatar

Larry J. H.

Yelp
It's been a spell since I crossed the threshold of silver dollar pizza , When was when I lived in NW Portland and was still working there, After my messy divorce I moved into an apartment closer to work to be able to merely walk to work and save $$money in doing so? The silver dollar was in the neighborhood and very handy. Especially the times when my kids visited me on weekends, Their pizza was very good, delicious and scrumptious? I need leave 5 stars of course*****! Thank you
google avatar

Dan O.

Yelp
garbage pizza. I ordered delivery and was sent a pizza that obviously had been made much earlier in the evening, reheated and boxed as my order. not ok for $25 pie. you have lost me as a customer for good.
google avatar

Alix W.

Yelp
If i could give them 0 stars i would. This is the 2nd time i have ordered from silver dollar in the last month and have gotten pizza that totally sucked. i ended up paying $65 for 2 cold, day old pizzas. It was inedible and disappointing, and It totally ruined our re-opening staff party. I expected better, silver dollar!
google avatar

Anna K.

Yelp
Today we had a pizza party at work. I am sitting here at my desk eating the greasiest, saddest pizza. Would be better off with Dominos or Pizza Hut. Yuck. Thin, tough and dough-y crust. Sausage with no taste. literally soaking with grease.
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
First time getting Silver Dollar Pizza and I must say, I don't think I have ever had a worse slice - certainly not with the heart-attack-worthy price tag. I purchased two pizzas: the veggie supreme and the pepperoni and peppers pizza. The veggies and cheese were bland (why was there yellow cheese on this pizza? Cheddar?!), the pepperoni and sausage had zero flavor, the sauce was clearly some kind of dollar store canned sauce, and the dough was frozen (for $25 a pie, that is a crime). The pizza arrived cold, not even luke warm. I will never support this establishment again and I caution anyone who cares about their tastebuds (and their wallets) to avoid this garbage pizza at all costs.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
This will be a rare short review. Silver Dollar was the last stop on our Rugby Bar Crawl and by far the largest and busiest place. All the other places were dive bars that we came in with the 70+ of us and basically took over the place. By the time we got here our numbers did dwindle but we still had a pretty large group. This place wasn't a place to be taken over and well it seemed like we got lost in the shuffle. The place was what it was. Just a typical bar/ college bar. Semi sports bar atmosphere and nothing that impressed me. I've been to several other sports bars that I enjoyed myself more at. Oh well, can't win em all.
google avatar

Kat ..

Yelp
If you arrive when you open and get a slice of pizza in 10 min it taste like last nigh

M R.

Yelp
The worst customer service I've ever experienced! On Easter night we went to go try out some pizza at this place for the first time. We were so excited to eat, have a drink, and play some games! Anyways... to the point... my friend had a water cup he accidentally spilled, and we said we were so sorry. (ACCIDENTS HAPPEN) We asked to clean it up ourselves, and were legit told by the bartender "don't Ya'll have anywhere else to be" "I want you out" like.... What the hell? We apologized it's not like it was purposely done. Honestly never coming back... this person made us feel really unwelcome. We didn't even stay to drink, or play games. Killed the night!
google avatar

Jill S.

Yelp
Likes: -TONS of tvs to watch Duck football -pool -good happy hour Dislikes: -feel like I'm at at college bar...

Han A.

Yelp
Very rude servers here. They make it extremely hard to get in and order anything and are also extremely rude if you are near there outside consuming drinks they do not sell. If you're not going to let people in you also can't be mad they got drinks from else where! There rude little servers yell at you if you do so without considering how much that doesn't make sense. Be weary!!
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
This place delivers what it promises- a dive bar, packed to the brim with 21ish year olds looking for a drink & a few phone numbers. (Yay for being old & having a ring on that finger- was grateful for that here!) Drinks are good- standard, not terribly expensive, reasonable- bartenders aren't the friendliest, but then again, that's how I remember college life so it completed the throwback experience for me. :) I can see it for a bar crawl or super late late night drinks, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Maverick J.

Yelp
This place should be called Penny Pizza CO instead. Ordered a mimosa and dollar slice. The slice tasted worse than a frozen supermarket box pizza. Then the overpriced mimosa ($7) was trash. The wine they use only cost 1.99! Out of all the restaurants/bars in Portland still open, I'm not sure why this one is open still. Close her down!!!
google avatar

Kausthub P.

Yelp
My kinda bar. We went in to play ping pong on a Saturday night and it was packed. They had every sports game on the planet on tons of screens across the space. There was pool and shuffle board in the back and 3 ping pong tables crowded together near the front. It was $1 per person to play (which isn't terrible), and you just wait until a table opens up. Playing is tricky bc there is very little room, and balls would often cross to other tables or just end up in random places. However, everyone is really respectful and helpful about playing. The drinks are your standard dive bar options. Nothing great, but then again, I came here for ping pong. Not for good beer.
google avatar

Dan K.

Yelp
I came for the ping pong. The ping pong tables were much better than expected for a bar. Had a very kind server who was quick to change the channel for a game I wanted to watch. Really, the experience was pretty fantastic overall. Didn't eat any food. Beers were fairly priced. I'd definitely come back to play some more pong.
google avatar

Doug M.

Yelp
If you are looking for good old fashioned greasy pizza -- that tastes great -- you will love this place. The bar is obviously a big attraction with plenty of big screens always tuned to the big games (and audio on for big sports events -- a definite plus that is hard to find in a lot of "sports bars") -- late nights on Friday and Saturday this place is packed -- and the pizza is fantastic! Cool staff as well -- owned by a family who actually work at the place -- and they run the place a way a business should be run -- I definitely recommend Silver Dollar Pizza!
google avatar

Gillian W.

Yelp
Never been in here before, this was at the suggestion of DH, he said it was a pretty happening place. We went in during the middle of day, and it wasn't busy at all. Just a few people at the bar and some couples playing pool. They have a juke box where you can choose your own music. Whoever was choosing the music when were there had great taste in music!! I really liked the jams that were happening here. They had two sets of pool tables- some in the back and some up front. Had this way neat stove thing in the front of place, very cool. They Have darts and a shuffle board. Looks like a great place to return to. I would definitely make a stop here again and maybe go out of my way to return for a date night or a night hanging out with friends. The Bartender was a lovely little gal and friendly. The funniest thing that happened when we were there is that the bartender asked this guy sitting next to me if he wanted another beer, he said yes. She turned around to get it and he was walking out the door, we all looked at each other like WTF? LOL must have been on drugs. The bartender did say he had paid for his first beer at least.
google avatar

Grace M.

Yelp
This bar truly values their patrons- especially their regulars. My boyfriend and I stop by pretty much every day and all the bartenders know us by name, know our orders, and seem genuinely interested in our lives! Sam, the owner, is incredibly kind and his family who we have met often are all wonderful. The entire staff is top notch. Not only is it great for regulars but it's probably one of the best sports bars in Portland. This place is packed for NFL sundays, Ducks games, Timbers game, etc. It is also just a great bar to go to on a Friday or Saturday night, it's packed, and they have a hot dog/gyro cart outside that is legit! I can't believe the negative reviews for this bar. As a frequent visitor I can truly verify it is five stars.
google avatar

Trish S.

Yelp
We enjoyed a stop here (drinks only) during the 2017 West Coast Eclipse trip. The bartender's wife and family live (or lived) in MN, so we had some local stories to exchange. Otherwise we sat at the bar, enjoyed the local selections and accepted any/all suggestions for our dinner stop; great time!
google avatar

Koyote C.

Yelp
Pizza was burnt, thin and lacked flavor. No reason to spend $20 on a pepperoni pizza when a cheap frozen pizza tastes better.
google avatar

Luke C.

Yelp
When you're as popular establishment as his one, and the title is pizza place, you're doing something right. In fact, it's more like any-game-you-want-extravaganza !!! And if you're a guy there's chicks galore on the weekends, however, I have no game. So I just hang. But it's a downright fun place. Yes it gets over crowded, but they got 30 TV's and at least 7 other games to play besides pool. Juke box. Cute genuine bartenders. Sky is the limit at this place. You can find something wrong with any place, but I keep coming back because I Love it.
