If you like the perfect mix of hospitality, welcoming patrons, a bar with a cat for its mascot, a wood burning stove, and patrons who are welcoming music lovers, this is the place to visit. Was made to feel welcome, prices were fair, enjoyed conversing with the owner and various regulars. We found the place here on google , took a guitar , they plugged us in to the bar pa, and we spent the first night taking turns playing songs. It was a blast. It’s definitely worth stopping in for a drink or 10.

I travel a lot and love dark bars.... The Silver Dollar Saloon in Butte, Montana is hands down my favorite bar to be in. Everything about this space, from the friendly and entertaining owner, Bryant, to the over-all style and vibe... make for a one of a kind experience. I dream of this place and always look forward to getting back. This place has ATMOSPHERE!

Silver Dollar Saloon in Butte, Montana is the true definition of an old school dive bar. Walking into the bar you can just feel and see the tremendous history of Butte as well as many musicians and artists from around the world. It’s dark, perfectly lit for a dive, worn in all the right ways, the beer is cold and the drinks are strong. This bar is an absolute treasure and should be protected. I met with the owner Brian who was kind enough to show me around and give me some historical information about the space. DO NOT MISS this bar when visiting Butte.

Great art scene at the Dollar. Be it poetry, live music, readings, etc. they have something going on all of the time. The prices are fair, but they only accept cash. I would give them an easy 5/5 if they would get with the times and accepts credit cards/ debit cards. It's also very cold in there for the majority of the year, so wear layers or plan to dance the night away to keep warm.

Stopped there to get something to eat. Big mistake. You have to order and pay at the counter. Ordered 2 eggs over easy 2 sausage toast and potatoes. My wife ordered breakfast sandwich. Took about 40 minutes. Her sandwich looked like it was dropped and put back together. My eggs were over hard and only had 1 sausage link. Waitress stated one rolled off plate and she would bring another. Never got it. If we didn’t have to pay first we would have walked out. We usually tip 20 to 25 %. We left nothing

Yelp
First, COVID times when I visited, so maybe the bar is different than normal times. I literally believe the owner is living in the bar. That is not a judgment. COVID sucks. I loved this place. Walked in, and it was only the owner and his friend. I think they were surprised to have someone in the bar they had never seen before, but they quickly cleaned up the bar top, smiled, and grabbed us some beers. Both guys were super friendly, and I loved hearing about the history of the bar and Butte. Walk under the welcoming hanging sing, through the front door, and the bar is immediately left. There was a couch, jukebox, and musical instruments on the right. No tables or anything like that, but again maybe COVID. The Dollar reminds me of a place where most activity happens at the bar anyway. The bar has an old school wooden tap with a medium rail. Below there is a box footrest that sits under the round padded bar stools. The highlight of the bar, though, is the beautiful back bar. It has a large arch and intricate woodwork. A little messy right now, but the bottle shelves still stand out with the red lighting. Opposite the bar, old photos and artwork are displayed against the brick wall. The floor is a little torn up, but I'm not there for the floor; I'm there for the conversation and beer. I'm not sure I'll ever have a reason to return to Butte, but I hope the Silver Dollar Saloon is still serving if I do.

Yelp
Oh the Silver Dollar Saloon, how I miss your honkey-tonkin' ways. This place is one of my absolute favorite night spots in all of Butte, with an eclectic crowd of locals, and excellent live music. I have NEVER had a bad time at "The Dollar" as the locals call it. The great thing about the Dollar is that if it were in any other big city, it would totally be taken over by pretentious hipsters and yuppie scum, but since its in Butte...well, it hasn't quite hit that market yet. The Dollar is that cool kid in school, who is oblivious to his hipness, which only makes him that much cooler. There is a wide age range of people who frequent this bar, and the bartenders are always friendly and chatty. The locals are welcoming to most 'outta towners' and are more than willing to sit and chat about 'old Butte'. Attire ranges to casual (I've gone in post-run, in shorts and a stinky tshirt) to dressy if you're so inclined, and either way you're treated with the same hometown friendliness. Drinks are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP, with beers runnin' you from $1.25-$3.00, and a gin and tonic starting at $2.50 for well, and $3.00ish if you want something above sub-standard. Most mixed drinks start at $2.50. The interior is red, with the old-time original bar set up from the early 1900s. There are pictures from Butte's Hay Day scattered on the walls, along with paintings by local artists. Various Irish flags litter the bar room, and there's a small pool table in the back. The dance room and stage also lie in the back of the bar, so if dancing isn't your thing, you can hide, bellied up to the counter with no one being any wiser to your lack of dancin' skills. Nights with live music are the best, with people of all ages dancing around simply for the sake of dancing. I have seen some of the worst, and some of the best dancing at the dollar, and the beauty is that no one cares, as long as you're having fun. Bands genres typical to the live music scene are rock, and bluegrass, with some spatterings of reggae here and there. Bands that bring out the best of the crowds (and dance moves) are the Clumsy Lovers, and the Clintons. If you have a chance to make it here when these bands are in town, you definitely won't be disappointed. Until we meet again, Dollar, until we meet again...

Yelp
I have had countless good times at The Dollar. It is one of the best bars in town. The bar tenders are friendly, kind, and know how to make their customers feel safe and welcome. It is one if tge few bars I will go to alone, without worry of some drunk guy getting inappropriate, or having just a bad time. There is always fun to be had!

Yelp
We are travel nurses spending the summer in Butte. Our first night in town we went to the Silver Dollar and were welcomed by an amazing bartender named Paula and a wonderful group of regular customers. We have made this our go to place for drinks while here. Inexpensive and always a good time.

Yelp
I am an utter beer snob, so personally judge bars with a pretension of the IPAs they have on tap. Yes, it's obnoxious. However, despite the Dollar not having a single microbrew IPA (at the time of my visit), it is a dive bar that you need to cross off your list. Friendly staff and patrons, a truly eclectic nature, and a bar environment that's one of a kind. It is a an old time bar that's authentic with modern-ish eccentricities.

Yelp
I came to Butte on my way home from Bozeman. I didn't know anything about butte so please imagine the tingles I felt walking among the beautiful old buildings on that slope. the silver dollar saloon is located on the ground level of a corner building on Main Street. it is a bar in front and opens back into a venue decorated with couches, velvet painting & curios that make me proud to be American. the owner/bartender was kind and engaging, and obviously loves his town. drinks were cheap, music was on point, conversation was interesting. that night after i left I felt compelled to learn all about butte. the silver dollar saloon helped me fall in love with it that night.

Yelp
This place is excellent. My wife and I stopped in on a Wednesday night while traveling through and had a great time. The bartender is a pro (says she's been bartending for almost 50 years) and runs the bar with a calm, friendly demeanor. Got some great beers for 3.50 each, and mixed drinks and well drinks for cheap! There was also an open mic that was really fun. Definitely a great way to meet the cool part of Butte.

Yelp
Definitely a hole-in-the-wall, but the bartenders and staff are wonderful and the layout is nice. My wife and I saw The Clintons on Friday night and I must say that the acoustics of this place is perfect! I was worried it'd be an echo-chamber. The Clintons were AWESOME, a must-see band if you're in the area when they're playing. The show went from 9pm-1:45am with only one ten-minute break, and they really were having fun, as was the crowd. One of the most memorable parts of our trip to the area.

Yelp
We loved this place. I agree with the earlier review - if this bar was in Portland, it'd be crawling with hipsters. As it is, it's a great mix of people and a cool bar. Nice bartenders. Friendly crowd. There was nothing to dislike about this bar.
