This was an amazing collection of modern photography displayed in a lovely gallery! We enjoyed the artists’ talking about their work. The spread of food was excellent, too. Cannot wait to visit again!

A nice little gallery for contemporary photograpy. You'll find framed works that are on exhibition, and fine prints from varies artists. There's also a small reading room if a selection of photo books is something of your interests.

This is a fantastic new gallery in Pittsburgh with historical and contemporary photographs, featured works, and a small bookshop. The staff were also friendly and helpful. We were really impressed -- it is well worth a visit! They get a lot of traction out of a medium-sized space.

David and his staff are great. They always have great exhibits and are changing them on a regular basis. If you haven't stopped by, then you should make the trip.

Yelp
Small and humble but fun photographic gallery in Pittsburgh's up-and-coming arty neighborhood of Garfield. An absolute hidden gem if you are looking for something less well-known than Pittsburgh's famous "big" galleries and museums. Regular exhibits of black-and-white photographs are displayed on the wall with accompanying text explaining the thought process and motivations of each artist. The photographic art displayed here is often socially conscious and utilized to make points about gender, class, and culture. While those points are made with varying degrees of success, the photographs themselves are always quite intriguing. In addition to the gallery, there is also a reading room. Several of the photography books are for sale, but it can also be used as a library space. If you want to learn about classic photographers and their art, there are more than enough books to give yourself a thorough education as an autodidact. I have only one caveat about this place that should be taken into account. I want to point out that if you are going here with younger family members, discretion and close supervision should be STRONGLY advised. There are certain visuals you may want to steer away from. The content occasionally goes well beyond PG-13 territory and occasionally into R-rated or NC-17 photography. The gallery portion for example is not unfriendly to nude photographs, and the reading room contains NSFW and explicit titles such as Nan Goldin's Ballad of Sexual Dependency (among others in a similar vein). With that caveat aside, however, Silver Eye Center Photography is one of Pittsburgh's hidden treasures and is very worth your time.

Yelp
Another little hidden gem in the South Side. I've stopped by for a few recent exhibits (Dawoud Bey's class pictures and Isa Leshko's elderly animals) this year. Again, a place I ignored when I lived in the South Side and I'm not sure why. When I've been the place is remarkably quiet - I could have used some music. But it's a simple gallery where you can walk through and no one bothers you (at least when I'm there). My interest in the exhibits is truly what finally got me inside the door after all these years. Silver Eye is open and free to the public. Worth a stop if you're nearby and it won't take up much of your time.

Yelp
I've been here a few times over the years, most recently for their annual photobook fair last December. The photobook fair was wonderful - I had a great time talking to the publishers/sellers and buying a couple of great treasures. I've seen some nice work up here over the years, too. Not every show will be everyone's cup of tea, but that's how it is anywhere. It's always good to look and keep an open mind. Centers like Silver Eye are so important for the photography community. May Silver Eye have a good long life, as it has already.

Yelp
Maybe their exhibits are decent, but their service for members is certainly not. I paid $50 membership fee and provided all my contact information and email address. Never received any communication regarding upcoming events, classes, discounts etc. The only email they cared to respond to was how to pay the membership fee. Never a response to my other inquiry emails. Not recommend to become a member.
