"Silver Slipper, around since 1972, is reliably great for a greasy-spoon breakfast, but lunch is solid too: Get the oxtail or the curried chicken. Cash only." - Nathan Tavares

"This no-frills greasy spoon is a required spot for breakfast in Dudley Square. Try the spicy sausage, and get some grits, too. The omelets are tasty, and the coffee is unlike the kind of coffee usually available at diners — which is to say, it’s relatively enjoyable." - Terrence Doyle

I’ve been eating here since I was a kid. I order the same thing every time. Pancakes, thin with extra butter with scrambled eggs and cheese… or I get it with bacon… or maybe add grits. I also very their signature ice tea, which this is a combo for me. When I get the food, it’s traditional for me to get their ice tea too… My food was hot when I picked it up for take out. I literally go here just for the pancakes, nice and thin with extra butter.

Google
Love the food except the grits wasn’t fresh they kept adding water to the grits to keep them hot yikes didn’t like at all if they had served to me fresh my breakfast would have be complete. I’ll never stop going to sliver slipper been going here since I was a little girl. The best soul food eating place

Google
GRITS Report: Yes! Wow. Finally, I found a diner that sells grits....located in the Heart & Soul of Roxbury by Nubian station. Great folks. Friendly, welcoming staff. Great atmosphere. A fav with the locals and I will most def come back to dine here. Small, little "Family-run" diner. This place has been a mainstay in the community. I had a wonderful breakfast: 3 eggs, steak, toast, and (cheese) grits.

Google
Never judge a book by its cover. If you want a meal that taste just like your grandmother made it, come here. I would recommend the pancakes, grits, eggs and spicy sausage. And I can't forget the sweet tea.

Alonzo Mcneal

Google
It was my 1st time there in I loved the experience. Very friendly staff and the food was good. I will be going back multiple times.../

Google
Cash only, old time no frills breakfast spot. Great pancakes, best sweet tea.

Google
Delicious food and the price was beyond reasonable. Everyone was friendly, homestyle food, and old fashion vibe restaurant. If I ever in Boston again, this place will be my first stop. One of the best breakfast food I ever had.

Ben K.

Yelp
Dr. J., The Master Chef at the Silver Slipper... He's extremely efficient and quick on the grill. And he never sacrifices quality. Always love being served by Darlene. That's why, for me, her pseudonym is Darling... Shawn & Aaron and the rest of the team are cool, too... 27 years strong... Love this place. Limited parking. Call ahead. Place your order. Eat. And enjoy the smile in your tummy.

Aryanna C.

Yelp
My favorite family breakfast spot in the heart of Roxbury, always a vibe always great food always love!!! The best coffee in Boston by the way!!! Service is excellent friendly warm, and kind!!! Be there tomorrow morning... sincerely Blue... find me on IG @bluebossMvt

Amina R.

Yelp
Back to the staple we all know and love. Can't miss with the hot sausage breakfast sandwich

Jeff M.

Yelp
Let the image speak for it self. Listed under sandwiches is the steak and eggs, and i get this. I don't know if this was even steak!!! Over cooked home fries and a jerky style meat. Lots of good reviews but i was disappointed for sure. Not sure i will be in the area to eat here again but I'll just skip on to the next spot. P.s. don't try calling to place an order because they don't answer.

Alyca S.

Yelp
Silver Slipper is my favorite breakfast spot.. not sure why I never posted a review. The spicy, beef sausage is my go to and always with a sweet tea. The service is great and food comes out fast. The best part is how affordable they still are, even after all these years. Cash only is inconvenient, but for Silver Slipper, I'll go to the ATM.

DodiB B.

Yelp
Best coffee I've had. Good down home breakfast. Early Sunday morning no crowd. Diner type seating with 8 tables. Waiter service is pleasant and quick. A neighborhood stable.

Ciara C.

Yelp
Good food, quick if you order ahead and the staff are nice enough. The place is cash only, somethingI didn't know at first cause I'm from out of town. There's a bank located right across the street tho so that's perfect. They're always packed when i go so keep that in mind. Overall a nice Black owned business

Sara M.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal food! I rarely find myself able to clean a plate as fast as this, and the people there are absolutely wonderful!

Kervin L.

Yelp
This old school spot makes some of the best breakfast/brunch food Ive had in inner boston. The staff been there a while and know all the regulars. The place is a tiny hole in the wall but takes me back to the 80's and 90 when step into it!Best of all its not expensive at all. From pancakes to corn beef hash and grits you won't be disappointed.

Frederick J.

Yelp
Hole in the wall but excellent food. Will go back the next time I am in town. Staff was not friendly but service was prompt and food was great.

Tonya B.

Yelp
Delicious food and the restaurant has a warm Dudley Square vibe. I went for breakfast & I highly recommend the Silver Slipper, the creamy & perfect grits....tasty sausage & egg sandwich is a wonderful way to start your day!

Stacia S.

Yelp
Grits grits grits...its all about the grits!! . every single breakfast spot should have this on their menu..and im not talking shrimp n grits either..just regular old grits with a lil salt n pepper and cheese..everything else on the menu is good too..their ice tea is super sweet but delicious. This is one if 5 places that serves grits and theirs taste the best.

Nera L.

Yelp
Nothing a like a good local old school southern style breakfast. This hidden gem is right in the heart of Dudley Sq and I must say I was very pleased with their food and quick service. Definitely a close comparison to Brother's in Mattapan but I think Silver Slipper has fresher food since most of it they are making to order right in front of you. Will definitely be back for my $7 breakfast plate with their infamous spicy sausage!

Jason D.

Yelp
This place is awesome! If you're looking for an old school, hole in the wall, greasy spoon with great food, especially breakfast, go here.

S S.

Yelp
I have been going to the Sliver Slipper for 8 years. I enjoy the atmosphere & Western Omelette. Always friendly service & delicious food. Try it out when you need some comfort food!

Patrice R.

Yelp
There salmon cakes were more like a crepes, the food looks more appealing on the menu than in the restaurant, very disappointed seeing that place is a staple in the community . I was shocked at the reviews of others maybe I was there when the more experienced cook wasn't

Meta P.

Yelp
After many years of living in Boston, I finally got the chance to try their food. The only reason I came here was because Ugi's wasn't open at the time that they said they were (not surprising) and I'm glad that I came here instead. The food was pretty good and I'm glad they offer beef sausage...on the other hand I don't like my sausages split down the middle while they cook, all those juices run right out of the sausage. Other than that, the homefries and eggs were good, customer service was meh, not too much to complain about so I may return here another time.

Danielle M.

Yelp
Food was so great! Looks like a little hole in the wall spot...abut it's authentic and the real deal of Dorchester Boston!

Demetrius S.

Yelp
Come here every Sunday morning for breakfast. Never disappointed. Might have to wait a little bit and customer service could be a lil better. But I have been eating here all my life. Very basic menu. Really good food. Cash only. Surprised there aren't more reviews

J. R.

Yelp
Such a great place; well it used to be. Aside from the cook on the grill there are no welcoming faces, warm smiles or even an effort to get your food order correct. This old Boston favorite has been a favorite of mine and my family for generations. The changing staff is lousy and has no problem letting you know they have no interest in being there. It's easy to see the shift as customers no longer spill into the streets waiting to order and enjoy their fabulous sweet tea. Too bad, cause there are lots of loyal customers. Too bad the staff has no loyalty to us.

Yelp R.

Yelp
Disappointed. I expected a "Brothers Restaurant" experience (locals know the place I'm talking about in Mattapan Square) but instead I got an experience that was sub par. The breakdown: Steak was thin and spindly eggs were unsalted grits were unsalted hash browns were unsalted portions were tiny service was surly and slow I appreciate them looking out for my high blood pressure and cholesterol level. To be honest though if I was looking for that I would have went to dunkin donuts and ordered an orange juice and a banana. I was looking for good tasting, plentiful food with a smiling server...I received neither. I really hate to leave a review like this. I love to support local businesses so leaving a review like this for a longstanding establishment like this pains me, but I simply must be honest. Hopefully they clean up their act but with the rarity that I frequent the area they may not have a chance to redeem themselves. To top it all off...they don't do free refills on coffee when you eat in! Really? Come on silver slipper...I know you can do better than this. I have no idea why I received such a low quality of food and service.

Kayla B.

Yelp
Okay for quick local and greasy breakfast. Really isn't anything special and their menu is pretty standard. The spicy sausage is pretty good but it is very spicy. I order over the phone for pick up and it's always a hit or a miss with who picks up and how their attitude is. Also, they frequently get my order wrong. My boyfriends aversion to onions is too real and they seem not to care that I specifically say no onions. Anyway I like to support local business especially with the gentrification going on in the area. But I will say they need to update that menu just a tad and step up the service. Other than that it's cheap and tasty food. If your blood sugar ever plummets Just try the sweet tea- definitely liquid sugar but it's tasty here and there. Definitely not healthy to get regularly.

Tallaria S.

Yelp
Y'all didn't put NO eggs in my plate, my bacon was bussin and the corned beef was MAD salty. But my girlfriend got French toast, bacon and eggs and it was a PACKED plate. Y'all like her ? That's why she got all that food and I got a skimp plate ? AND SHE GOT MORE STRIPS OF BACON THEN ME !!!!!!

Tricia M.

Yelp
I only had the spicy sausage and grits. The spicy sausage was good and the grits were grits. The sweet tea was overly sweet but my 3 year old went to town.

Reshay F.

Yelp
Silver Slipper is a ol' school place to eat. My grand-father use to eat here. They serve breakfast and lunch, they are not open for dinner time. I always order breakfast. The Texas stlye french toast is mouth-watering. Their breakfast selections are moderately priced. The food is so damn good. I brought my fiance there for the first time and he assumed that the food would be nasty but he was very pleased. The place is small but gets very crowded because the food is so good. If you go to Silver Slipper, please try their ice tea. I do not even buy ice tea in the stores or at restaurants. I only drink it if I go to Silver Slipper. Everyone orders their iced teas, it is an A+. They serve collard greens, oxtails and other southern meals. You have to go out to eat here. Do not expect desingner table cloths, curtains and a server with bow tie on. This an ol' school joint and it makes you feel like you are in the 60's when you eat here. I love Silver Slipper.

Katherine D.

Yelp
The best breakfast spot to get French toast and scrambled eggs with cheese, yummy and they only accept cash but there's a few bank around to withdraw...the staff is the friendliest but the food is great.

Clyde C.

Yelp
Very authentic eating here for years and will continue get a sweet T! A lil sweet at 1st but when u let the ice melt a little it's perfect

Deedee M.

Yelp
Great food and friendly customer service .. My sausage egg and cheese was perfect and it was my first time being here. Ps their sweet tea is to die for

Zakir B.

Yelp
I'm white. I live in the Dudley Square neighborhood. This is the only restaurant/dive that made me and a Salvadorean friend feel acutely ill at ease. All conversation ceased when they saw my face. I'm usually pretty brave about things like this--I force my way in and crack a joke and hope to defuse the tension--but the glowering just didn't let up. Too bad, 'cause I like the kind of food they serve.

Dani G.

Yelp
Food is so good - the website above incorrect though. The place is very small so I doubt that they even have a website. Home cooking food - they were featured in the movie Gone Baby Gone!!!!

Eric S.

Yelp
Ok this is one place where breakfast and the GRITS go together they are memorable ive been to the silver slipper probably 100 times in my life and when im in the dudley area in the early morning thats where all be till noon lol,, no but serious the hot sausage sandwhich is bomb and the french toast plates with eggs and grits are off da hook,,it is a very small place but if your lucky you can get a place to sit on the revolving stool

S F.

Yelp
my grandfather used to own this joint way back when it was a bar. Must have been in the 40's he was an irish immigrant, i will definately stop by when i visit Boston. good luck to you. Owner do you know any history behind the Silver Slipper? Pictures?

Mags R.

Yelp
The pancakes were not well done... the eggs were mega greasy! And they forgot my toast! And the server was fresh!

Shawnte' H.

Yelp
Never had the workds best service here. Food was ok for me. Not a top choice. Grits were salty. I wasn't offered any butter or jam for my toast and server was unattainable. Not to mention we needed to use the restroom and needed to go to another establishment to do so.lo

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Great pancakes! Random spot but old school dinner food is fantastic! Staff is friendly and the food is yummy!

Nadine T.

Yelp
Husband went and picked us up breakfast for my birthday. Lenny and Daphne would be proud to know their place is still doing a good job!

Broke B.

Yelp
This place is a good eat but i wouldnt reccomend dining in .. the location is shady and the customers arent the friendliest ... Food is pretty good and the cooking reminds you of something you would get at home better than any chain breakfast spot you can think of

Lisa R.

Yelp
This place by far has the best breakfast sandwich! The shop location is sketchy,I'm not gonna lie...but the sandwich is so worth coming here...the only thing that sux is it closes early sometimes even @ 2pm. But definitely a got to spot if you're craving a breakfast sandwich :)

Chantel V.

Yelp
A Caribbean feel Diner with awesome food! I have not tried their lunch but The breakfast is delicious. And not too pricey. I'm sure the lunch specials are good as well. Sometimes its really packed, but the food is worth the wait!

Adrienne T.

Yelp
Okay, so if you want a REAL "down-home" type of breakfast, THIS institution is your spot. It's a legend, they say Malcolm X used to eat here. Right smack in Dudley Square, you will find the BEST grits in the city (be sure to ask for them with cheese-yum). Home fries are the soft kind, cooked on the grill, and I've never had either but I see people getting the pancakes and french toast all the time. I would've given them 5 stars, BUT you must be warned that the service leaves much to be desired. The guys are polite, but not nice. Food gets cooked quickly, but then the production slows down in getting it to you. This place is VERRRY busy in the mornings. They do take call in orders, though, which may help with getting your food. Anyway, the gist is, go here for good old fashioned, not fancy, breakfast, and GET IT TO GO. There is a small seating area, but there's quite the cast of characters sitting inside. GRITS! GRITS! GRITS! Get them HERE!!!!!

Amanee W.

Yelp
their breakfast sandwiches and iced tea are absolutely amazing. The only problem I have with this place is when it gets really crowed its very tight and uncomfortable, but other then that food is amazing the prices are fair. Mind you this place is good for take out or a quick sit and eat. I would never sit and eat here. The service is terrible sometimes and they have no restrooms. But when I take it to go I have no problem with it.

Tony P.

Yelp
I can't lie I have ties to Brothers cause I lived in the Mattapan area but the Silver Slipper has the best breakfast in Boston period. Hands down everything is made fresh and the staff are funny and welcoming to every customer. I enjoy my food and time there I go there twice a week atleast I try to if my schedule permits. The only knock is it gets over crowded I hate that but I understand because the food really is good. I am not a huge fan of there lunch selections but the breakfast is the best in town to me and it's pretty inexpensive. You must visit if your inthe area.
