The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week: September 8 | Eater LA

"Just so we’re clear, everything at this Indonesian spot hits, with bold flavors that stand out even in spice-loving Los Angeles. With locations in Palms and Venice, it serves some of the city’s best Indonesian, Malaysian, and Singaporean dishes, but the paratha-style roti is the showstopper: deliciously flaky and made transcendent by a rich curry dipping sauce. As someone with Carib roots, that roti resonated in the best way—and when a shared plate disappears into the hands of one person (possibly me), you know it’s special. It’s the perfect appetizer to tide you over while waiting for bigger plates like chile-spiked woku branzino and ayam goreng." - Eater Staff

The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week: August 25 | Eater LA

"For years, when I owned a business in Palms, Simpang Asia was one of my neighborhood go-tos for reasonably priced Indonesian food that burst with flavor, and now that the team has expanded to Venice, the pretty dining room with traditional elements and a tightened menu of classics feels like a smart evolution. I loved the mie tek tek (also known as mie goreng) — a longtime favorite my wife and I would order regularly — prepared here with sharper, more elegant execution on floral plateware with a tangle of microgreens. The wok-fried noodles are well-sauced, lightly seared, and tossed with fragments of tender chicken; crunchy cabbage and chopped greens add texture, making it feel like chow mein but more dimensional. Simpang Venice’s other dishes — beef rendang, chicken sate, and penyet fried chicken — were all stellar as well, and the Westside restaurant’s natural wine list hits hard, too." - Eater Staff

Asian Fried Chicken: A Look at the Different Styles From Taiwan to Thailand - Eater

"Simpang Asia in Los Angeles, which has locations in the Palms and Venice neighborhoods, offers both ayam goreng kuning (the simpler turmeric version) as well as the smashed-chicken ayam penyet." - Matthew Kang

Simpang Venice is a decent spot with friendly service. The gentleman who assisted us was very kind and welcoming, which made the experience pleasant. The food was okay—not quite what I was expecting in terms of flavor, but still enjoyable. If you’re in the area and curious to try something different, it might be worth a visit.

Google
Very delicious, wonderful flavors. It really stands out from other places I've tried similar dishes at. The chicken satay with peanut sauce was very filling and hearty. The ribs were my favorite, it must try. I will come back!

Google
Very unique presentation of foods. Foods were delicious. They served the foods very quickly. The staff were nice.

Google
My first time trying Indonesian food! Our waiter, Rayzan(?) was super friendly and kindly answered all our questions about the menu. He pointed out all the vegetarian options for me and was sure to warn us about any spicy dishes. The food itself was excellent and so nicely presented. I ordered the Saya Vegetarian which looked so pretty that I almost felt bad about eating it (good thing I did though, since it was delicious!). We also got the Mie Tek Tek noodles that they made with tofu instead of chicken. These were also delicious

Google
I came here with my sister yesterday for dinner and it was fantastic ! We enjoyed it so much we ordered more. The ambiance was nice and would be a great date spot ! The perfect amount of people to hold conversation. We ordered the chicken sate, papaya salad, sambal wontons, and steamed garlic veggies :)

Google
I wish they had more Indonesian dishes instead of sprinkling in Thai and other dishes. Having said that, the mango sticky rice was delicious and took me back to Thailand!

Google
Gem of a place! Fantastic customer service, pleasant ambiance, and good food. The menu is really well labeled for allergens and the staff is very attentive and listens well to customers' orders. The sauce with the branzino was a little cold by the time it made it's way to me, but otherwise quite good, very flavorful.

Google
Authentic Indonesian food in an elegant and elevated setting. Decor shows clear presence of traditional elements with colonial influences. Plenty of seating all around with combination of tables with chairs and cushioned benches that can be easily arranged for small to large size groups. Some items in the menus are similar to the sister property of the original Simpang Asia, but there are uniquely innovative dishes that are only available at the Venice location, such as the Pad Thai that reminisces the char kway teao with familiar taste of traditional pad thai. Other dishes we had there are nasi goreng, roti phratha, sate ayam, and laksa which are all very tasty in their own right. The drinks are really good too, including the egg coffee (Hanoi style), teh tarik, and the iced Vietnamese coffee. Service is friendly, prompt and efficient. There's a small parking lot at the back side for all Lincoln plaza patrons.

Yelp
I visited Simpang for the first time on Thusday, and I loved it so much that I went back nextday. That says it all. This place is such a gem delicious food at great prices, amazing flavors, and super cute, spotless decor. The staff are friendly and professional, making the whole experience even better. I'm officially a regular now and can't wait to come back to try more of their wonderful dishes.

Yelp
Mango sticky rice, you will always be famous to me.... Seriously some of the best food we ate while visiting LA. This unassuming, strip-mall spot is incredible. We weren't super hungry so we went on a tour of the appetizer and dessert sections. I'd never had anything like the roti paratha before. It's a salty, flaky, pastry, croissant-like bread with a curry dipping sauce. It was buttery, light, flavorful, just amazing. The lumpia and wontons were also amazing. Everything hit the mark. I'm a sucker for mango sticky rice... and this was some of the best I've ever had. Lordy lord I could eat that every day for the rest of my life. Sweet, heavy rice with a kinda crispy outer shell. Mmmmmm. They did a great job decorating the inside. It all feels modern and cozy.

Yelp
If you're in Venice and want something different, you must try this Simpang Venice that offers Southeast Asian flavors. I love everything here from the decor to the food, everything is excellent. Excellent flavor, variety, service, and atmosphere. Here's what I ordered: Gah Kangkung $15.50 Branzino $22.95 Coconut Rice $3.50 Martabak Manis $5.95 The rice, fish and vegetables complimented each other. All the flavors exploded in my mouth so I truly enjoyed my meal. I can't wait to go back to try other dishes in the menu.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night at 7:30PM and got seated immediately. The ambiance was very nice and chill, and the lighting was dim and sultry. We ordered the roti paratha and a yellowtail ceviche from the Chef Specials menu. The roti paratha was so good. The roti was buttery, crispy, flaky ~ and the coconut curry dipping sauce was super rich and flavorful. The ceviche was very refreshing, but I thought the fish quality could have been better. For our mains, we got the Beef Rendang and Mie Tek Tek. Both were delicious! The beef tasted like a soy and coconut braised beef, and paired well with the flatbread. The noodles were very flavorful with a savory and sweet profile, similar to the flavor of pad see ew. Overall great experience and the service was wonderful!

Yelp
We chose Simpang Venice for dinner while visiting LA solely based on Yelp reviews, and it did not disappoint! The ambiance is inviting, with an eclectic vibe. The food is tasty, creative and beautifully plated. We were craving Thai and this spot was perfect!
google avatar

Yelp
Simpang Venice is a gem. The Nasi Goreng Jagger was the star of the show--smoky, bold, and seriously crave-worthy. The Cah Kangkung was another standout: garlicky, fresh, and perfectly cooked with that wok-charred flavor that makes veggies anything but boring. The disappointing dish was Hainanese Chicken it was good but it lacked some flavor. I wanted it to have better tasting rice and for the sauce to have more punched. Service was on point--friendly and attentive without hovering--and the ambiance struck that sweet spot between cozy and lively. Bottom line: amazing food, great energy, and the kind of spot you'll keep coming back to. I know I will.

Yelp
Our meal was decent, but the portions left the three of us hungry. $26 for a tiny bit of meat in a dish, and we needed to get tacos afterwards. Definitely wouldn't be back. None of the dishes warranted the wait, uncomfortable seating, or hunger after $45/person meal. Check my other reviews to see I don't leave negative reviews often.

Yelp
Simpang (with two locations in LA) is a real solid place to get Indonesian food in town and this location particularly steps up in terms of ambiance. It is a casual yet elegant and nice restaurant where you'll find all sorts of dishes ranging from fried chicken to noodle dishes. Their cocktails are pretty tasty and unique as well with some Asian flavors. Staff is nice, even if it may at times feel a little understaffed. Plaza parking available.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is delicious, staff are very friendly. Looks beautiful inside. Portions aren't huge and the price is expensive. $29 for a little tub of beef rendang and rice. It's way over priced. Sauce was delicious but apparently this has been cooking for 6 hours but the meat was still kinda tough and fatty. I want to love this place because the food really is tasty but it seems quite over priced for what you get.

Yelp
*** Saturday brunch 11am-3pm es bueno. *** We were looking for a change of pace, so why not an Indonesian brunch? It was excellent. This place is so charmingly low key imho. The breakfast burrito was quite a surprise. Not huge yet filling, and more importantly, it was tasty. The sauces here are exceptional. Their noodles too are all seemingly on point. It's kind of hard to go wrong with any of them. *** A neighborhood joint worthy of a visit. ***

Yelp
I love Indonesian food and this place hit the spot! Inside it was super clean and I loved the atmosphere. It was very comfy, yet colorful with a modern vibe. I started out with a Thai Milk Tea. The presentation was beautiful and it tasted amazing! I loved the cream on top. For my entree I ordered the Nasi Lemak. I loved the curry chicken! The chicken came out a little cold though and wish there was more curry that I could eat with my rice. The chicken itself was super tender though and the rice was fluffy and delicious. I loved the peanuts and my family liked the crunchy little fried fish. The sambal that it was served with seemed house made. it wasn't too spicy and it went well with the chicken and rice. The service here was great overall. Our waiter was super nice and service was quick. I would definitely come here again to try some other dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious Indo/Malay/Singaporean food! My favorites are the Rendang and Roti Parathi, would recommend. Their rice dishes are great too. Lots of great SE Asian flavors coming from a fellow SE Asian. Great service too! And cutest decor/vibe.

Yelp
Simpang Venice is a great spot with cozy and welcoming vibes, plus FREE parking! The service was very kind, but the food fell a little flat to me. The chicken wings lekker were delicious and juicy. I ordered them because I didn't want a full order of the fried chicken, but maybe I missed out because this was the best part of my visit! The #8 Masi bungkus was a nice way to try a little bit of everything, but it was just a big ball of overcooked mush. The boiled egg was so overcooked I literally couldn't bite through it. The Mike Tek Tek was also recommended and felt a little bland to me. I was looking forward to fresh Indonesian flavors, but it came off as generic unfortunately. I asked for hot sauce which helped a bit. The desserts were intriguing to me, but the check arrived at our table before we were given the opportunity to order dessert. So I took that as a sing to go home.

Yelp
I've been looking for another Malaysian Indonesian place that offers a different cuisine. They have a pretty good menu going on and their food is delicious. The servers are friendly. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a very casual vibe to it. There's actually two locations around Venice, but I prefer this one because even though the parking lot is spot, it is a little bit better. this place is good for couples and groups. I definitely recommend coming here if you like Asian food. I plan to come back again.

Yelp
We are regulars at Simpang on National, but decided to try this one. Simpang Venice has the same impeccable service and we saw some familiar faces. Both locations have different, but unique and innovative decor. Venice has spaces for groups, but also some romantic nooks. There are so many vintage pieces of decor to admire from plates to lighting fixtures. Service and ambience rate 5+/5. The food here might be more to the liking of locals and families, so it is likely that others would rate it higher. Dishes are fresh and attractive. The taste is a little more towards California Thai style cooking. Food is not at all spicy and very, very sweet. We tried the Papaya Salad, Nasi Goreng, and Singapore Noodle. The waiter brought us hot sauce, but it did not add much flavor, nor could it cut through the overpowering sweetness. Our Es Cendol was actually less sweet than our food. Again, this is just my taste preference. We love the atmosphere, but will stick to Simpang on National.

Yelp
I tried this restaurant for the first time recently and already craving to go back! The interior was really cute and thoughtfully put together. I loved the seating with the pillows. The staff were really friendly and attentive. I felt really comfortable ordering with my nut allergy!! We started off with the sambal wonton. The chicken and shrimp went really well together with the spicy sauce. I could have that as an entree next time bc it was so tasty! We also ordered a regular skinny noodle and a flat noodle dish, which both were insanely good. The shrimp was so tender and juicy. The sambal sauce paired well with both dishes.

Yelp
Ambiance: it's the Simpang Asia's location in Venice, with alcohol service, cozy and comfortable dining vibe Service: friendly and fast, attentively served water and food Food: standard simpang menu with tasting options THE #8 NASI BUNGKUS - *** basically the everything combo to explore tradition in one wrap, chicken curry, beet rendang, sambal egg, vegetable curry and rice wrapped in banana leaves, the flavors were good, however, rice and veggies were hot, but chicken and beef were served barely even warm, chicken back part with bones and organ not much editable meat left, and beef had very rubbery texture Price: moderate portions and slightly overpriced for its quality, not quite worth near $30 per person
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious spot hidden away in an unassuming strip mall. When you step inside it's absolutely cozy and gives you some true South East Asian feels. The food is loaded with flavor. Very authentic. This dishes aren't particularly large which means you can try an assortment of dishes. Taste the rainbow! If you're in a hurry, no need to worry. Service was quick and came with Southeast Asian kindness.
google avatar

Yelp
If only I could rate a place greater than 5 stars! From the ambience to the service- and every single dish we tried- loved every aspect of our visit. We started off with some great drinks- the hot ginger tea, watermelon basil yuzu fizz, and the es cendol. Tried the chicken sate, lumpia, Kaya toast, and green papaya salad as appetizers, followed by some share plates- brisket noodle soup, mie tek tek, cwie mie, and nasi lemak - each unique and delicious! Will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Delicious! We had been here several times before in the past but apparently not in the past year haha because they have done incredible renovations. It's gorgeous. The food is extremely flavorful. The waiters are busy but attentive and friendly.

Yelp
Always a great experience at Simpang Venice. Nice ambiance and vibe with calming music and nicely decorated dining room reminiscent of the colonial era. A sister restaurant to Simpang Asia, this location has a more elevated feel in a relaxed setting. Some menu items are similar to Simpang Asia, but here they have brunch offering such as: - martabak breakfast burrito - Kaya toast - rendang hash - nasi goreng with fried egg They also have fusion dishes such as The Pad Thai which is a hybrid of pad Thai and char kway teao and Dan Dan Noodle with a hint of Indonesian mie. We want to try their hainanese chicken rice next time. Service is always friendly and on point.
google avatar

Diana N.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance and very attentive and nice service. Came here for weekend brunch and it was pretty quiet and got to pick a seat we liked right away. Definitely loved the chic vibe and would come for a fancier dinner too Got the Hainan chicken which was a bit oily but flavorful. Fried chicken is crunchy and the sauces were a nice complement. The winner is definitely the Singaporean street noodles! So flavorful and balanced down to the shrimp. Free small parking lot or metered street or neighborhood

Yelp
I had just finished up the latest season of HBO's White Lotus and the set up of this restaurant reminds me of that. It's so underrated chic, whimsical, bohemian decadence that it gets A for the interior alone. Please, view my pics! Food is delicious and adorned with flower petals, bamboo...etc. The Thai iced tea is delicious! The brussel sprouts are delicious with a nice, layered flavor that does not overpower. The string beans were the best I've had in a long time! I ordered the street style noodle dish with chicken sausage, shrimp. It is wonderfully seasoned and enjoyable. The Bramzini is light, flaky and moist. The coconut rice is delicious. Again, subtle but impactful flavor profile. The shrimp.and.chicken ravioli amazing. Service is just as extraordianry..The waitstaff is very quick, light footed, efficient and warm. Our waiter had several other tables and he never missed a beat. We were getting refreshers on things and plates cleared away as soon as it became needed. This place is in a strip mall, parking is small and tight. There is also street parking..This restaurant earned it's place in my rotation. Overall...a win.
google avatar

Yelp
Simpang is a staple on the west side and all around a great place to checkout! I love this restaurant so much, the food is authentic and portions are good, and prices are good. I love being able to go out to dinner and not drop more than $25, especially on a weekday and Simpang is a great place to fill that slot. I love their noodles, and skewers. If in doubt ask the staff what they recommend.
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
Dropped in because we saw that they were on the dine LA list and beat the crowd by seconds at 5:30 on a Friday night. The food initially took a while to start coming out. But I think it was because they were receiving a lot of takeout orders. But service was fast and friendly. The two best dishes were the papaya salad and the wings. I think I could confidently say that this place has the best papaya salad that I've ever had and the wings are to die for. Will definitely be ordering takeout from here next time, so I don't have to deal with the small parking lot.
google avatar

Sean B.

Yelp
Really really impressed by this unassuming spot. We actually had just gotten back from a trip to Southeast Asia when we went here and we're shocked at how good and authentic the dishes tasted, including the hainanese chicken and rice, sambal wontons, green papaya salad, Vietnamese, coffee, and the Singapore street noodles.
google avatar

Jim G.

Yelp
Absolutely love this spot. It's become a necessity for any time I'm in the area. The location is easily accessible, with a lot out front and a smaller one in back. There are many street spots available in the surrounding area. The decor is tasteful and the vibes are strong. I love the dark wood and ample natural light. The service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable, able to answer any questions we have! The food is dynamite. Many options for nut-free dining, which is so exciting. Cannot recommend enough.
google avatar

Johanna M.

Yelp
Such a cute little spot in a place you wouldn't expect to see such a nice restaurant, but once you walk in the feeling totally transforms. The decor feels like you are actually in Indonesia, very open & fresh air. The servers are very attentive, always coming back to ask what we want. Besides all this of course the most important thing in a restaurant is the food. No words to describe how delicious each dish is, so much flavor, so well prepared. Definitely coming back to Simpang. They have a sister restaurant in Culver City, equally as good!
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
not kidding, every dish tasted great - beef rendang is tender (almost every one i had in asia are dry), the noodle in Kwetiau Goreng was stirfried just right (you know when you see it, it has a glossy sheen, is not too oily, and has right amount of bounce), singaporean street noodle and string beans are solid, the kaya cheesecake is just right and not too sweet. I can't compliment this place enough. The only downside i can pick on, is the portion is rather small, but that's fine, you can order more different dishes.
google avatar

Terri S.

Yelp
We started with the Roti Paratha with Curry dip. Loved the curry dip but the roti wasn't quite up to par. One second later they delivered the roti our entrees were delivered to our table. Since it was our app, it would have been nice to eat it warm and not have all 3 dishes served simultaneously. The Beef Rendang was good, it wasn't sweet it wasn't spicy, it had flavored but it was too subtle. Nasi Lemak (Coconut rice, chicken curry, boiled egg, sambal, cucumber, fried anchovies and peanut.) had one very small piece of chicken drumstick and teeny tiny bit of thigh, so there were about 5 bites of chicken, with same curry dip that is served with roti; tasty but not they should put an entire piece of chicken. Flavors are good, not amazing. Servers are all very polite. If you have never tried Indonesian food this would give you a good sense of traditional flavors.

Yelp
Good ratio quality price Chicken sate super tasty Beef ribs well cooked Service perfect

Yelp
First of all, I love the decor of this place. It's truly a great date night spot for dinner. The staff is friendly and efficient. Tables are spread out enough for privacy and chairs are comfy too. We got a few dishes in the Char Kway Teow (#208) and the Roti Paratha and no pictured but we also got the beef curry. All three dishes were good but the Char Kway Teow (#208) was the best. I would probably not get the other two again due to price and taste quality. The only issue I had for all three was the portion, very small considering the price.
google avatar

Chantel R.

Yelp
The food was so good I forgot to take photos of it before devouring. The ambiance is stunning and they seemed to have built it out more since I was here a couple years ago - mid century meets tropical with colored lighting makes the dining experience unique. I've been surprised they're not packed both times I've been here. Last time we came very hungry and this is more a place to sip on wine while the food is cooked fresh. I will be back soon! Ps tis my rendang stew is a must!
google avatar

Julie O.

Yelp
A group of friends and I had the pleasure if eating here. We placed a large order with many appetizers and entrees. We were served quickly by friendly staff and everything was piping hot when it reached our table. We had orders of the lumpia, bread, and chicken satay. We also had the seafood noodles and other dishes that I also can't remember the names! The Thai tea was one of the most beautifully presented Thai teas I have seen! The decor was fun and I would love to return if I'm in the area again.
google avatar

Malisa R.

Yelp
Food is so good here. Authentic Indonesian food in a super cute restaurant. I have been to both locations. Last night I went to the Venice location with one of my best friends. The Venice location expanded. Love the chandeliers, tables, and the decor. We started off with hot ginger tea and roti with curry. If no one was looking, I could drink that curry. The roti is so fluffy and every bite is pretty magical. My eyes are definitely bigger than my stomach. I had to ask my friend a few times if I'm ordering too much. The answer was yes. lol. I got the mie laksa. Brought me back to the summers I spent in Asian. Curry soup with shrimp and noodles. Drooling. So good. Flavors on point! The waiters are so polite. There is a small parking lot with additional street parking.
google avatar

Yelp
Simpang Asia VENICE Indonesian Restaurant This restaurant is romantic vibes and dimly lit, nice decor that paired well with the food imo. I think Mie Tek Tek is my fav here so far, and the Thai iced tea is the prettiest one I have ever seen and super yummy, the touch of dried floral notes on top of the foam was amazing for the senses Mie Laksa Thai iced tea Mie tek tek Service was good !:) I give this restaurant 8/10 Flavorful pretty food
google avatar

Yelp
Cute spot in a small strip mall off Lincoln. There's a few parking spots if you manage to snag one. The decor inside is SO NICE. They really did a good job with the vibe and little characteristics. I really liked the 80s TV and alarm clocks. The food and drinks were really good too! Everything was super flavorful and presentation was great to boot. HIGHLY recco. They are also part of DINE LA this year, so worth trying out. They have 2 locations on the westside.
google avatar

Jenai D.

Yelp
Had a great dinner with my friend and some of her co-workers as we were all catching up with one another. My friend comes here often apparently and introduced us to the place for the first time. The interiors is super cute, service was good and the food was great! I ordered the Mie Tek Tek and enjoyed every bit. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food so a great time all around. We had gotten there early and it wasn't very busy, but by the time we left around 8 it got more crowded - still some tables open though. Will definitely come back again and bring my bf to try it out :)
google avatar

Nick D.

Yelp
Outstanding meal. One of my favorite culinary experiences I've had in recent memory. The food was sophisticated, fresh and comforting. The fried chicken, beef ribs, special ceviche, fried rice and chocolate pancake dessert were excellent! We also enjoyed a very well priced bottle of chilled red. Our service was amazing and the music was such a good and chill vibe. I will definitely be coming back here! It was an absolute knockout.

Yelp
This was my first time at an Indonesian restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised at all the unique flavors. We ordered the mie tek tek, nasi goreng, kwetiang goreng, roti, and chicken wings. The roti was one of my favorite dishes; it was a simple dish but delivered good flavor and texture. Chicken wings were crispy and moist, very similar to Korean fried chicken. That being said, it wasn't super unique. The nasi goreng was sweeter than I expected, and it felt similar to fried rice you can find at a Chinese restaurant (in terms of flavor profile). We also got the chicken sausage with the nasi goreng; the cumin on the sausage was a bit too overpowering for me. My favorite dish was the mie tek tek - because of the strong wok hei, there was a great smoky and charred flavor. The kwetiang goreng used wide rice noodle; the flavor was good and similar to a drunken noodle. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and would definitely come here again. Although the waitstaff was friendly and courteous, it did seem that they were somewhat understaffed. In terms of value, I'd say 3.5/5 because the portions could be larger (but they weren't tiny). The parking is limited in the lot, so you'll have to find street parking.
google avatar

Cidney L.

Yelp
Love the flavors in the dishes here! Get something from the traditional section on the menu so you can unwrap the banana leaf at your table. The char on the rice noodles was great too, similar to pad see ew and chow fun.
google avatar

Tony T.

Yelp
The service was somewhat good. I went after a workout and was a bit disappointed of the meal. The portions are fair but as someone that eats a lot of Hainan chicken dishes this probably ranks towards the bottom. The sauces were missing some zest and pretty bland. Hopefully the other dishes they have to offer are a bit better. The decor is nice though
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
There's so much to choose from here, and everything I've tried has been excellent. The kwetiau goreng is the standout dish for me. I love the chewiness of the flat rice noodles paired with all the flavors of the chicken and veggies. I do prefer it to the mie tek tek, which I find has a stronger flavor but is also still delicious. The serving size isn't huge but I think it's enough to get you full, and the pricing is fair for the quality and area. Wait staff is always friendly, service is quick, and the place has a modern, clean feel that's made even better with recent renovations and expansions. The parking lot can fill up on a busy evening, but there's some free street parking in the residential area nearby as well as another parking lot behind the building. I've found on off weekdays it's pretty quiet, but there's restaurant does fill up Fri-Sun for dinner.

Yelp
I really wanted to to try some Indonesian food. My first choice, Cobi, had a five hour wait so I came to Simpang. I was greeted by a friendly server, and the building had an upscale vibe. I started with the Roti and curry sauce, which was outstanding. Then I ordered the Beef Rendang for dinner. It was underwhelming to say the least. Not very tender and nearly no flavor. Very disappointing. Also, no Alcohol...
google avatar

Yelp
Simpang opened a second location in Venice and it's beautiful! Open, airy and modern looking with plenty of seating and a gorgeous bar. Parking was much more manageable at this location because they've got parking in both the front and the back. Service was superb as always and they got our food to us super quickly. AYAM GORENG KUNING: The most amazing tumeric chicken with a delicious spicy-sweet sauce!! Plated up with a heaping side of white rice. I loved this dish!! SERENDIPITY NOODLES: seafood garlic noodles with generous amounts of calamari and shrimp. Garlicky noodles that were fried to perfection! Comfort in a bowl!! So happy to see that Simpang is doing well and has opened a second location!

Yelp
Good food, relaxed ambiance, and great service. There's a place right next door where you can pick up some local beers to go with some legit Pan Asian cuisine. Definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
This was our second visit to this location, although we've been to the National Blvd. location many times. This place is much more of a restaurant experience because the other is rather rustic outdoor seating only. Here, it is a lovely space, with attractive tables and painted walls. We also prefer the menu here, and they serve beer and wine. The food is really delicious and very authentic. We particularly enjoy the papaya salad, the lumpia, and the mie tek tek. Service is gracious and cordial. We will be back soon.
