Three of us, all adults, visited this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon, around 1:30 pm. We called first to see if there was a wait (there wasn't), and there were a few parking slots open in their back lot. There was a musician performing in the outdoor area, but we decided to eat inside as it would be easier to carry on a conversation. We were seated quickly, and the waitress came by soon after to take our drinks order.
Food. (4/5). My husband ordered one of the Brunch Specials, specifically the Gorgonzola Dolce Burger ($20) -- which was served on a brioche bun, with Gorgonzola dolce, smokehouse bacon, lettuce, and tomato. He selected home fries as his side. He also got a local ($7) Coffee Stout beer. I ordered The Schmidty sandwich ($14), which consisted of roasted Turkey breast, smokehouse bacon, a sliver of cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and aioli, served on a French roll. (8 grain bread also available). Sandwiches are served with your choice of home fries, mixed greens, or seasonal vegetable. I, too, chose the home fries. As is our tendency, we split our main entrees, so we each ate half of each burger and sandwich. In both cases, the food tasted fresh, was beautifully presented, and tasted good. We both particularly liked the aioli sauce, which we ended up putting on both the burger and the Turkey sandwich! We dropped our ratings down to '4' because the burger and home fries were both over-salted, and the Turkey was somewhat dry. Our friend (a Virginia Beach local) ordered a Crabby Patty, sandwich ($18), which was made from Chesapeake Bay crab, lettuce, tomato, and aioli on a brioche bun, accompanied by (purple cabbage) apple slaw and a wedge of lemon. She selected garlic green beans as her side dish. She also rated the dish as a '4', noting that it tasted good but that the crab patty was quite small. We also ordered a slice of apple pie ala mode to go, which we haven't tasted yet. (We really only wanted the pie but accepted the ice cream too as it would be the same price with or without the ice cream).
Ambiance. (5/5). This is a welcoming restaurant with both inside and outdoor seating. The inside has an eclectic assortment of things going on -- but it works. Mismatched chairs, overhead lights with dangling seashells, Halloween decorations (pumpkins, witches hats), blackboards with drinks and dessert offerings (which we didn't notice until after we had placed our order), and more.
Service (4/5). Efficient, and friendly, but nothing that would push it into the exceptional category.
We would visit this restaurant again.
