The founder of Station Sushi was ready for a new project. So she renovated the building formerly occupied by The Hideaway Cafe, installed a new and modern kitchen, and opened a charming new restaurant called Sindi's Snack Shack a block from Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach. I met a friend there and we both had a great meal! I'd go back any time.
The menu is very diverse. Sindi bills it as "Asian street food" and "more than just snacks - breakfast, lunch, dinner." There is lots of hearty fair on the menu (curry bowls, soups, rice bowls, noodle bowls, ramen & udon, lots of sandwiches) as well as snackier offerings (musubi, quesadilla, shave ice treats). Drinks include coffees, teas, blended drinks, and a full range of boba flavors. Any dish can be served with a couple vegan protein options.
I had a Bahn Mi (Vietnamese style) sandwich with lemongrass chicken. It was large and amply stuffed, and it was delicious. Thai ice tea was similarly high quality. My friend was very happy with his rice bowl. Everything was very reasonably priced.
The place is small, neat, tightly organized, tidy and clean - it feels a bit like a well-run ship's galley. The owner Sindi is friendly, affable and efficient in the kitchen. This place is her pet project and her pride of ownership is clear.
All the seating is outdoors and a party of 18 would just about max out the place. Ordering take out and then picnicking over at Fletcher Cove could be a pretty great plan. You can order online and do takeout. I think she's looking to do some catering business too.
I look forward to my next visit. Maybe I'll try a curry next. If I lived in the neighborhood then I'd eat here all the time. I wish Sindi all success with her latest business venture. This restaurant is a hidden gem.
