"Sing Sing has an indoor dining room brightened up with red checkered tablecloths, holiday string lights, and enough mirrors to classify as an amusement park attraction, which means you don’t have to scramble to find somewhere to dig into their excellent bánh mì. There are only two things (currently) on the menu: a Vietnamese iced coffee for $4 and a bánh mì đặc biệt for $6. This classic combo is loaded up with eggy mayo, pâté, and enough cold cuts to make a butcher faint. So sit back and relax as you dig into a bánh mì while Vietnamese music videos play on the TV in the corner." - lani conway, ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1, patrick wong

Great house special sandwich (Vietnamese cold cuts and pate). The bread was crispy, the vegetables were fresh and the rich mayo tied it all together. Somewhat smaller than the other neighborhood sandwiches, but excellent nonetheless. Cash only.

Google
Sing sing makes the best banh mi in the Tenderloin and maybe even the whole city. The flavors are perfect and feels light and healthy. Only $5 per sandwich Right around the corner from Mong Thu. There's usually 20-30 tenderloin people posted up in front at any given time, so they always have a metal gate they keep shut to prevent stragglers from coming in. Don't be fooled they're open though, just slide open the gate. One time a woman slipped in and tried selling a bag of frozen (half thawed) shrimp she stole from CVS - no one bought. They offer three things on the menu, get the combination. Their banh mi is very simple and light, yet still packed with flavor. They usually sell out by noon so be sure to go sometime in the morning

Great sandwiches with even nicer service. Entrance due to indefinite crowd of people is quite daring

Google
Excellent sandwich shop in a terrible part of town. The walk to the shop from the Civic Center BART is harrowing. Despite the rampant homelessness and drug abuse on the surrounding streets this spot always has some local Vietnamese patrons enjoying a coffee or tea which gives the place a feeling of safety. The service is pleasant, quick, and welcoming. I recommend the Cafe Su Da (Vietnamese iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk) and the combo sandwich. They’ll probably give you a pot of tea to go a long with the Vietnamese music videos on the TV in the corner.

Google
You don't get what you paid for, you get more. Cash only but the sandwiches are so good. The flavors are so fresh and had just the right amount of all the notes that make for a great banh mi. The iced coffee is strong and deep, and the hint of the condensed milk at the end make for a refreshing, tasty, and bold drink. Didn't expect much in the way of customer service, but you won't need it, and maybe don't even want it for an establishment like this. If they can keep up the amazing food, I say keep at it.

Love this place . On Sunday they have the football game on.

Always got the combo sandwich here. Price recently increased to $5 from $4. This is typical vietnamese cafe shop place where majority of vietnamese men (mid 30 - old age) hanging out & gossiping. Been here couple times but didn't like sandwich much this time. It was not as tasty as before.

Yelp
I knew an authentic Vietnamese banh mi existed in SF. After trying every shop in the Tenderloin, Sing Sing is it! This dac biet is the banh mi I grew up with (Ba Le in Garland, TX all day everyday), and it is as close as one can get to an authentic street version in Vietnam. The lady asked me if it was my first time, and I said yes and have tried others around the area. She confidently told me this is the real Vietnamese banh mi and that I would be coming back. And she's right, this is the only place I would go to!

Lai L.

Yelp
Please keep this coffee shop far away !! The owner service the customers very bad!! They always yelling the people!! So crazy!! Anh this inside area so dirty ! Terrible!! Anh not safety !! Must review the moments fist if you wanted to come this area!!!

Michael L.

Yelp
I want to say this is more of a hang out spot than a banh mi spot. There were about two dozen middle aged Vietnamese men who look like they just missed the age requirement to fight in Ho Chi Minh's army, just sitting around drinking coffee. Loud Vietnamese music blaring above. A couple oranges that have seen better days next to the incense and Buddha. Sure, there's a little toaster and a tiny cutting board, but I don't think making a banh mi was priority. I asked for a Special Combo. She toasted it for about 3 minutes, puts all the ingredients in and handed it to me. Special Combo Banh Mi: there were raw onions, jalapeño slices, carrot, and Cilantro. I could have probably done without the onions and preferred daikon, but no daikon! Banh Mi with no daikon is like Puff with no Mase. It's just not what I prefer. The meat of course was low quality and meager. Also despite her toasting the bread for three minutes, that bread wasn't warm or toasted at all. While it's not terrible, it's not the best of the Tenderloin. Not even close. But in about five years, I'll be old enough to hang out here at least. Save me a seat!

Yelp
Nothing else reminds me of home other than this place. This place is alive & well. One of the best banh mi's you'll ever have in the tenderloin district. The sandwiches & coffee are all they sell so you don't have to decide what's for lunch

Sahar N.

Yelp
The BEST Vietnamese coffee in the city! And the best Banh Mi sandwiches I've ever had. Simple, tasty and above all FRESH! Be sure to bring cash and show them some love.

Pudgy G.

Yelp
A friend who grew up in the city said this was a good spot to check out, so I decided to give it a try. The banh mi I had was good, but hard for me to debate if I would take this over Saigon Sandwiches on Larkin or Lee's. I guess it really is a good right in the middle between Saigon and Lee's. Saigons is a dollar cheaper priced around $5. While here it's $6. Lee's rounding up is near $10 but it's a larger in length sandwich. Walking through the tenderloin usually disgusts me though because it just looks and smells dirty. You also should be on high alert with a lot of loiterers or shady looking characters just hanging on the streets doing drugs in public and selling (who may possibly try to jump or rob you). Why I bring this up is you'll see people like this on the way to this shop.

Mischa J.

Yelp
A very nice, yet simple place for a great Banh mi sandwich and cold teas. Nice and cozy little spot, too.

Yelp
TL;DR - probably the best Vietnamese Banh Mi shop in the city. Ok wowowowow it's cash only but dang it was probably the best $5 sandwich ever. First, I am a Viet lady born in Vietnam and raised in San Jose. I love Banh mi sandwiches. And I have tried many places, but this was SO GOOD. Second, I do not think Saigon Sandwich is good at all. It's mediocre. And the other places I tried to hit up just weren't even open??? Third, the tenderloin is scary but if you can muster up courage to go, it is 100% worth the trip. Get the combo if you like 3 kinds of meat - you get pate, head cheese, shredded pork, Vietnamese bacon, etc. so yummy. It can be spicy if you don't eat Jalapeños normally! It's really good. It's my new favorite Banh mi spot.

Amy D.

Yelp
Cash only!! Busy with a lot of locals at 2:45pk on a Saturday. -Special Combo Sandwich (Banh Mi Dax Biet) A good amount of metered street parking to be found on this street.

Est T.

Yelp
Authentic banh mi and Vietnamese ice coffee but unfortunately in a sketchy neighborhood.

Yelp
I've been trying to branch out from my usual banh mi shops--Saigon, L&G, Lee's. I decided to try out Sing Sing even though I was hesitant about buyer's remorse. But, I'm glad I took the "risk." -When I entered the shop, I was greeted by a woman who's in charge of making the sandwiches. She was very friendly and gave me time to order, probably sensing that this was my first time. -There are only three types of sandwiches--combo, chicken, and meatball. There weren't any prices listed, so I had to ask her what the total would be. For now, each sandwich is equally priced at $4. -Upon ordering two combination and one chicken sandwiches, I indicated that two of them didn't need jalapeños. In comparison to other shops, she was very attentive to my request and wasn't confused. -After placing an order, she kindly told me to take a seat. I only had to wait around 10-15 minutes for her to make the three sandwiches I ordered. In particular, what I liked most about Sing Sing was the fact that she wore gloves. I mainly see workers at other shops using their bare hands when making vietnamese sandwiches, which is a sanitary issue.

Yelp
Delicious bahn mi and coffee this morning. very friendly staff and comfy environment, will be back.

Yelp
It's amazing what $3 can get you in certain parts of the city. Deep in Little Saigon, you get an amazingly delicious combination Bahn Mi at Sing Sing Sandwich Shop. We made the trek to try what some consider to be the best Bahn Mi in the city. After dodging some shady charecters hanging around the door, we made our way in to order our sandwiches to-go. The owner took our money and told us to wait outside. Yes, he threw us out to the sharks. But all was forgiven when he handed us our sandwiches shortly after. The Sing Sing Bahn Mi is a fantastic cornucopia of flavor encased within a fresh, crusty baguette. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/DfPLBY50sx7-A1aI0wmoLg?select=2tqMrnHXjrOxxBM5UsDDtQ The rich pâté accentuated the pork but the cilantro, chilis, cucumber, and pickled carrots provided the right counterpoint to cut through the fattiness. It was a joy to eat, and again, for $3 it was an absolute steal. I will definitely be back but I'll get more for the road next time round.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST "Banh Mi Combo " Sandwich In SAN FRANCISCO! The bread is Super Fresh and Crunchy and the pork meat ingredients are super Fresh! I ate one Combo Sandwich in the premises and ordered 4 more to go. You will not be dissatisfied.

Sherry L.

Yelp
I don't venture out to the Tenderloin often, but for banh mi, I braved it. This was the first stop in my bahn mi haul. I got the pork meatball bahn mi. It was smaller than some of the other places I've been to. But it was packed with flavor. I don't know if she put a special sauce on the sandwich or whether it was from the meatball. But it was very savory. The bread was crusty, just the way I like it, but not so hard that you feel like your gums are going to bleed. This is definitely one of the best bahn mi I've ever had!

Dave D.

Yelp
The woman making the sandwich is friendly and the restaurant has a distinct smell incense that reminds me visiting distant Vietnamese relatives when I was younger. The interior is cozy with tables and seating. The (3) options for banh mi's are all $4 (September 2018). The bread was a bit dry and vegetables sparse. The protein was well sauced and was not dry at all and the jalapenos were nice and spicy. Freshen up the baguette used and maybe that would give some more room for vegetables. Overall it is a good value for the money and I would return. Just remember to bring cash!

timothy n.

Yelp
One of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time, parking is a bit difficult bit worth it for the traditional sanwich

Nyla K.

Yelp
Sure this place is a bit rough around the edges but the sandwiches surely make up for that. I used to go to another sandwich place nearby but a friend recommended this place and I haven't gone back to the other place since! i love the combo sandwich and the coffee goes great together for lunch. The only downfall is that it is cash only and there is no ATM so bring cash! Seating is a bit crowded too since it is filled with all the locals and their families enjoying their banh mi's, you might struggle finding a seat. Take it go to and eat it in front of city hall!

Helen L.

Yelp
Just needed some down time, place to sit, enjoy vietnamese coffee, eat a small ban mi sandwich with a few slices of this and that (ham) with crunchy bread that flicks all over, and watching vietnamese tv showing their food channel. Oh, right in the heart of tenderloin. All for 7 bucks. Can't beat that. I don't see menu. I don't speak vietnamese. Oh well pointing is good. Many come in to pick up at least 4 sandwiches to go.

Jess C.

Yelp
I looooove their Vietnamese coffee ($3). It feels like robbery when you're paying a dollar or so more for a full sandwich. Ask for extra EXTRA light cream otherwise it's too sweet. The sandwiches are pretty standard Vietnamese bahn mi. I think I prefer Saigon Sandwiches (bigger, more pickled slaw, and just tastes fresher), but these are even cheaper. The cashier/owner/chef lady is super sweet!

Mike L.

Yelp
I'm ranking the best Banh Mi in the city. These rankings are based on having the Dac Biet (Special Combination) sandwich at each establishment (unless they don't serve one). I'll be rating the entirety of the sandwich based on factors such as bread, fillings, flavor, gooeyness, and price. Sing Sing Sandwich Shop - The cheapest special combination I've come across so far at $5 flat. It was pretty good and did the job, but honestly nothing to write home about. The scenery in the heart of the tenderloin is quite interesting and you see some shady stuff in surrounding area (but at least you get to see some of the character of the city!). But honestly if you're in the tenderloin anyway just head to Saigon Sandwich or L&G. My updated Banh Mi rankings: 1. Saigon Sandwich 2. DragonEats (Haight) 3. Dinosaurs (Ocean Ave) 4. L&G Vietnamese Sandwich 5. b&b - Banh Mi & Boba 6. Banh Mi House 7. Mission Banh Mi 8. Cafe Bunn Mi 9. Sing Sing Sandwich Shop 10. Kitten and Pinky 11. Banhwich 12. Ty Sandwich 13. Mr Banh Mi

Jina M.

Yelp
Delicious bahn mi! Wouldn't change a thing about it, though I would always like more meat if possible. Bun is nice and crunchy Jalapeños were nice and spicy Good proportion of the pickled carrots to meat Nice sauce and pate tying everything together Deal at $4! Place seemed extra legit -- a good sense of Vietnamese community. Would give 4.5/5 but there is no such rating so I'm giving this place a 5/5

Yelp
I had seen a review via the SF Gate that Sing Sing had the most authentic Banh mi in San Francisco , so just had to check it out. There are lots of pluses from my experience, the young woman who helped me was friendly, and made me feel very comfortable , Sing Sing has that small family feel that can be very special, plus this area of Hyde St.tends to not be busy so parking is not as difficult as other parts of the tenderloin. As for the Sandwich , it was very mixed for me, and probably because I am a White Boy who was introduced to Banh mi by Saigon Sandwich. I got the Combo but did not really like their fancy pork that for my taste had to much fat, plus some of the vegetables where cut very large where they ran the length of the bun, this might possibly be authentic but for me it was not what I was expecting. But that said the Bread was very good, as was most of the Sandwich Filling. So right now my feelings are very mixed, and I want to check out their Meatball & Chicken to see if they are more to my taste, and would encourage other to at least check out Sing Sing, and see if their Banh mi appeals to you.

Yelp
THEY HAVE THE BEST BANH MI IN NORCAL (period) Since 1990, Harry Lam opened Sing Sing Sandwich Shop to bring the goodness of Saigon banh mi with him to the States. With his long charming hair, Harry Lam is not only the owner of the best banh mi shop in Norcal but also is a great musician! If you're close with him, you will be amazed at his guitar and singing skills. Born and raised in Saigon, my first step to Sing Sing Sandwich Shop took me straight to an authentic Vietnamese coffee shop in Vietnam where people would drink ca phe sua da, eat good food, discuss about news events and share the stories of their lives. Although the front offers limited seating, the back of the shop opens out to a spacious estate for Vietnamese elders to chill. For many young ones, this shop sells the authentic banh mi of Saigon. For these elders, this shop is their escape route to reconnect to their Vietnamese culture, friends and country. Many wonder why this shop remains to look like "straight-out-of-saigon". Harry believes that this hovel style is most preferred by his customers. Location (5/5): The shop locates on Hyde St between Ellis St and Eddy St. If you are a SF native, you wouldn't have to worry about parking. If you are driving from elsewhere, gotta rely 100% on street parkings. Services (5/5): Harry (owner) and Dung (the famous cook and sweet lady standing at the front) are the nicest people on Earth! Smiley Harry would always welcome customers with his charisma while Dung would passionately talk about her banh mi babies. I bet they wake up, work out, eat, and sleep with these banh mis. Food (BROKE THE 5 SCORE SCALE): Although I live in San Jose - the city of Vietnamese food, I would drive to SF for their banh mis without any hesitation. It's not about the hype and the price point that trigger such hunger. It's the vibe that I get from the owners, the authentic taste that I crave from my homeland, and the 10 more togo banh mis (of course, why wouldn't I). I have friends who were born and raised in Saigon, or visited Saigon multiple times; many agreed that Sing Sing has the closest taste of banh mi from home far far away. From the combo banh mi cha lua to banh mi xiu mai, I LOVE THEM. My partner in crime who has tried banh mi all around the Bay, too agrees that these are the best Banh Mi eVar. Taking the crown from a shop in downtown Saigon, District 1. Damn I'm hungry.

Vivian S.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of Saigon sandwiches, but definitely had to come and try what people have been calling authentic Vietnamese sandwiches. I grew up eating Banh Mi's and have even tried some in Vietnam, which is as legit and authentic as you can get. I ordered the combination and it was pretty darn good. I like that their French roll bread isn't too thick so you're not having to overstretch your jaw hahah and they have a great balance of ingredients. Their banh mi's however are a bit smaller compared to other shops. So what's my verdict? My family has been ordering from Saigon for years and it has a soft place in my heart, but Sing Sing comes at a close second! And a plus about this place is that you don't have to wait long, Saigon can sometimes have long lines.

Hannah M.

Yelp
Never had a banh mi here which is surprising because those are a delicacy to me but their iced coffee is out of this world. The best of any viet shop I've gone to and I frequent this cuisine frequently. You walk in here and feel like you're interrupting a mob meeting with the king pins just gawking at you and the incense smoke from the alter obscures them. Great place.

Denis S.

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic experience, look no further. This place is authentic down to the lack of menu, cash-only, and guys smoking in the back of the room. I got their number 1 Banh Mi sandwich (out of three options). It was $4! The bread was crunchy. The sauce was a little heavy. The veggies were good. The meat was fine, but not very flavorful. Overall, and great for the price, but not nearly the top of the Banh Mi heap.

Alex G.

Yelp
You're in SF and are looking for an authentic banh mi, where is it that you should go, you ask? Saigon Sandwich? If you're a Pier 39 person, then sure go for it! But if you're looking for that charming place that gives you an authentic banh mi sandwich with a Vietnam feel, this is the place for you. With a jungle of plants throughout the sandwich shop along with tables covered in red and white checkered picnic table covers and green plastic chairs, this awesome gem reminded me of Vietnam; Vietnamese show playing on the old school CRT TV, card game playing, and little English spoken by its workers and customers alike. They have (3) sandwich choices: special combination, meatball, and chicken. I went with the special combination. Go with the special combination! A classic Vietnamese sandwich choice; it has headcheese, sliced steamed pork and ham along with the essentials of pickled sliced carrots and daikon, cucumbers, sliced jalapeños, mayo on a french baguette roll.

Patra I.

Yelp
They DO exist!!!!!!! I've ventured here 5 or 6 times on weekends, and they've always run out of sandwiches!!! I was finally able to find the elusive sandwich on a weekday. I worked from home, so I took an early lunch and went to the TL. After eating lunch, we walked to Sing Sing, and they still had sandwiches!!! YAY! I'm usually not a big fan of the combo sandwich, but I was told Sing Sing has the BEST one ever( http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/KndRKNA46PGPJgcVw6legA/l ). After one bite, I became a fan! I don't know what makes their sandwich taste so much better, but I will never order a combo sandwich anywhere else. Its only $3 for this tasty little treat...well worth a trip to the TL! They seem to run out of bread between 1:00-2:00, so go early or no sandwich for you!

Lolia S.

Yelp
This Vietnamese coffee shop is very strange (feels like a front for an illegal business - gambling?). It's cluttered with all sorts of posters, shrines, art (some of it was Chinese), statues, plants, tables and the cheapest plastic chairs you can buy. Not only that, the music was super loud and they had some Vietnamese TV program on. They don't make any attempt to draw in customers but they probably have regulars who hang out there all the time. There isn't even a menu. Once you're inside wondering if you're in the right place (and the people inside are probably wondering if you're lost), you'll see two rooms and two counters. I'm not sure what goes on in the back room. Order your sandwich in the front room. There's only one kind. Other than drinks, I think they only sell that one type of sandwich, a combination banh mi ($3). The guy at the counter wasn't friendly either, but he knows how to make a good sandwich. Toasting takes awhile. * Sandwich analysis: It's comparable and similar to Hoang Dat's (similar pork cold cuts, smear of pate, carrots, cucumber, mayo, jalapenos, cilantro) but the meat isn't sliced as thinly. Hoang Dat has better bread and their sandwich is a bit larger. Sing Sing has better pickled carrots and daikon (I don't think HD had daikon in their sandwich). The ingredients were nice and fresh. Excellent bread to fillings ratio. Cash only.

Daniel L.

Yelp
Not to die for. Rumors have been swirling all morning about the prowess of Sing Sing's Vietnamese sandwiches but I sure wasn't singing after a bite into the hype. The place is a sketchy hole in the wall without a menu but only one sandwich to choose from. My pork sandwich and canned basil seed drink cost $4, and this includes a soft baguette with mayo, mixed hot and cold pork slices, jalapeno, cilantro, pickled carrots and radishes, pate and cucumber. The baguette was soft and crunchy at all the right places but the size was smaller than expected. The fillings were okay, but for some reason I couldn't overlook the sharp uneven temperatures between the outer rings versus the inner core of the sandwich. Quality-wise, I believe Little Vietnam Café is still far superior. I would give the sandwich a 3 star rating but my major complaint has to do with its cleanliness. My sandwich was made right next to the cash register and the process in which it was handled drew grave suspicions about its potential health consequences. I will be looking elsewhere with so many banh mi choices nearby. 2 stars for the extreme creepy experience. I was glad to be outta there.

nghia d.

Yelp
Best Vietnamese sandwich ! Love this place . It's a diw to earth family cafe like those you'd find in vietnam .

Brian J.

Yelp
Don't be shy and step down into the Sing Sing. Don't be turned off by the bark little dog or the cigarette smoke. Instead imagine you are Vietnam and all is good. The TV blaring Vietnamese drama will help. Not many options here, just the combo banh mi. (I guess they might have chicken and meatball options too, but don't stray too far off track.) Pair with an iced coffee and you're set. Cool spot off the beaten path

Paul K.

Yelp
This little sandwich shop is easy to miss with a tiny store front. It's in theTL so it can be a bit seedy, even in the day. The place is not the cleanest place and it definitely feels more like you're in a sandwich shop in a developing country than in the US. There's no menu (printed or a board menu), so you pretty much have to ask what they have. Luckily there is only one sandwich choice, basically the combination with pork, a little bit of pate and the usual carrots, daikon, cilantro and jalapeno plus cucumber. The sandwich is pretty good, especially the Baguette which is warm, crunchy on the outside yet soft inside. The bread is noticeably better than Saigon and Lee's. As for what's inside, there's not as much meat as Saigon and if you like pate, the flavors are more faint here. Some yelpers feel this place is cleaner than Saigon Mkt, I'm not so sure... I think it's pretty close. Both need some work in that area. I dined inside the cafe, but would recommend getting the sandwiches to go.

Matt G.

Yelp
There are many Vietnamese Banh-Mi Deli in the jagged Tenderloin neighborhood. Matt and co-worker landed here and targeted the combination sandwich and that is one of the few things that this small deli has that is good. We each had a sandwich and the iced Vietnamese Coffee for $5.00. The hot sandwich had the usual head-cheese, Pate', julienned daikons, carrots, onions, hot-peppers and cilantro inserted. The iced-coffee was very strong, and jolted our day. The only question mark about this place is that the restaurant is divided into two-section. The front is primarily for the deli and behind the business is a section where gamblers hang out huffing and puffing on cancer-sticks and amuse themselves with those gambling machines. As long as no activities are involved, Matt does not mind the stirring dealings in the back, as long as Matt gets a great sandwich.

Solina C.

Yelp
My other alternative sandwich spot besides Saigon sw. although they serve two different styles, I like the fact that here is they serve your authentic classic banh mi style. Cold cut, homemade mayo, pork shredded (we use to call it carpet when we were younger) and all your typical toppings! This Place can be a bit of a challenge as it's hard to get in and out of and parking and it's a hot spot for older Asian men to hangout and get their daily dose of coffee. They get very busy during the morning. I advise to call in and place your order. I wasn't to fond of that fact that I called 20 mins in advance to place an order and when I got there I still waited like another 15mins for 1 sandwich. Overall would I come back, Yes. But be prepared to wait!

Victor G.

Yelp
Sing Sing has various rooms where one can sit and eat and watch the vietnamese videos of female singers. the setting is smiliar to a social club where mahjong and various games of chance are played. eats pork banh mi(3) only one kind offered -baquette warmed, crunchy with all kinds of veggies, pork inside. -siiced pork, pork pate, cilantro, jalepeno, carrot, leeks, no msg tasted. -ingredients not skimpy, not overflowing either. 3.5 stars.

Vanessa S.

Yelp
full disclosure, i've come here three times before writing this review. this is my favorite banh mi spot in the city, hands down. i've visited many others and there is just no comparison. the french bread is crispy, the inside is perfectly balanced and the sandwich is just the right size. the jalapenos are spicy, as others have mentioned. when i come by now, i'll order 3 sandwiches. one for me, one for the hubs and another to share a bit later. don't forget the iced coffee! fair warning: this place is SUPER authentic and CASH ONLY. there is always a group of people hanging out inside, drinking tea, watching tv, etc. i've eaten there and to-go. if you're looking for ambiance then definitely order to-go. definitely worth the journey down to the TL.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place looking for vietnamese sandwiches. I was outside and tried to get in, but their "door" / gate was closed. You know, those black metal caged gates that shops use at night to prevent robberies? Well, it might take a while, but you have to kind of jimmy it to open the gate. Once you're in, the guy asks you what kind of sandwich you want, but his English isn't the best. I tried asking if he has a steamed pork (cha lau) sandiwch. He didn't quite understand what I was asking for, and it wasn't on the menu, then later I saw that they sold the actual rolls of pork, and I pointed to it. While he was making it, I noticed the breads were quite small. I was ready to be disappointed. I was not. When I unwrapped the sandwich (that was cut in half), I looked at the cross section of the cut. It was loaded up with meat! Lots and lots of meat! more so than most places. Awesome. It tasted good, and was really filling. Each sandwich is $4.00 so don't be fooled by older reviews that state they're any cheaper. $4.00 is a bit pricy, but rent in SF is expensive, and they didn't skimp on the meat! Recommended and will return.

Yelp
Legit bahn mi, combo (headcheese, pate, fancy pork, red pork house made). When you walk in and see older vietnamese gentlemen playing cards, chatting and smoking, you know its the real deal. Serves sandwiches and coffee only. No lines usually unlike Saigon since getting all hyped up. Saigon is good, pate my favorite there. But Sing Sing is just as good.

Yelp
I love the banh mi pate. I'm a simple girl which means I don't need all that fancy shmancy stuff. Just like my food, I'm fine with a simple dish such as the banh mi pate. Basically it's just bread, mayonnaise, and pate. This sandwich brings up a lot of childhood memories. I remember coming home from school and seeing a plastic bag filled with baguettes wrapped in white paper sandwich wrap. From the smell of the mayonnaise, I instantly knew what they were. Screw homework, let me eat first.

Yelp
Came here to get a viet sandwich. A low key kinda place where it seems the local Viet folks hangout. No fancy decorations or anything. For the combo sandwich I got, it wasn't bad. In it was ham, pate, pork belly, and other general stuff in combos. Overall the filling to pickled carrots were a good ratio. For $4, I would come again. If the pork belly was more tasteful and had a bit more pate, I would have given 5 stars.

Yelp
I ordered the Special and it was really good!!! It was richer and more moist than regular banh mi I think. Warning: the jalapenos are SUPER spicy! My friend warned me about the spicier-than-norm jalapenos but I didn't believe her and ate the sandwich like a regular banh mi and my mouth was numb and I was crying and I had to pick out the rest of the jalapenos from my sandwich.. Was embarrassed because I felt like the crowd of Viet grandpas hanging out there were judging me. But you know this place was legit due to the very old non-English speaking grandpas. $4 for a banh mi seems kind of high, but I don't think I was charged tax. Also they served us free tea. :-)

Yelp
4bucks Flat for Pork Combination. CASH Only. Its a good Sandwhich that does fullfill your appitite. Hits the Spot better way harder then Subway in a great way. Homemade light Mayo. Fresh legitimate marinated right ingrediants. Love the generous Cilantro and French sliced Jalepenos. Just a hint but not too much. Theres an awesome article raving about it Postef on the window. It got me curious. I tried it today. They have an impressive display of fresh cut meats. The place is cozy. There is a hint of second hand from smokers out front. Lady is nice, they speak chui chow and cantonese. Sandwhich looks small but its Dense. Meat portion and vegie ratio is fair. They do have pate but its lacking yhe Zing of old Kien Than. They make it Fresh. The plastic chairs really brings me to Viet Nam outdoor restaurant furniture. Id come back.:) Good to alternate my Banh mi spots. Favorite in the TL so far is Lees. Have to check in with Kien Tanh to see if they can bring back my favorite childhood style the way the mother use to make em. Fully loaded and packed with Flava!! Bought a sandwhich for work lunch. Eating it 4hours later andman is it great cold and after hours of marinating in my bag!;) you can smell the aroma!

Yelp
Authentic Vietnamese delicious sandwich only here! One of the best I've had. Comparing to those around them, not as authentic as them! 4 stars due to the cleanliness.

Yelp
Love this place ever since childhood and it's authentic down to the very core with its patronage; the slight smell of cigarettes; the older Vietnamese gentlemen conversing and laughing loudly while music is playing in the background. I also prefer these sandwiches to Saigon Sandwich and am willing to pay a little more for it as well! Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Only one type of sandwich...it's called Yummy! Interesting atmosphere, but very authentic.

Yelp
This looks like a front for a gambling den. I've never had their sandwiches. I usually grab a Saigon Sandwich banh mi and come here for their Vietnamese coffee. Their coffee is the best Vietnamese coffee I've had in the city. Four stars for coffee, three stars for shadiness. Four stars for Asian posters from the 80s.
