The Newest Restaurants In Chicago

"Roscoe Village’s Sinya is bringing their excellent Mediterranean wraps and rice bowls to River North. This larger second location is still a counter-service operation, but it has more seating and opens early. Which means you can satisfy your shakshuka craving even if it’s at 7am." - john ringor, veda kilaru, nick allen

I originally stopped by hoping to order something from their breakfast menu, but it turns out they no longer serve breakfast. That said, I decided to try their charcoal latte, something I hadn’t had before and I was pleasantly surprised. It was unique, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The latte art was especially impressive and added a thoughtful touch to the experience. Beyond the drink, I really appreciated the warm, cozy atmosphere of the space. It has a relaxed, welcoming vibe that makes it easy to settle in and enjoy your time. The staff were friendly and attentive, which made the visit even more enjoyable. While I didn’t get the breakfast I originally came for, I ended up discovering something new that I truly enjoyed. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of their menu and soak in the ambiance again.

I’ve been to their other location a couple of years ago and had the opportunity to try out this one. Both are *chef’s kiss* 👩🏻‍🍳 the food is high quality, SUPER tasty, and plenty for sharing or to-go. I was thoroughly impressed with how good the food was as well as how cute & clean the interior was maintained. Their desserts looked super delicious and the one we got (tiramisu milk cake) was super yummy. We also got some specialty lattes after, but my friend and I weren’t impressed with those. I will definitely be coming back here again for their food & dessert!! The service was also great and everyone was super nice.

Google
Sinya Mediterranean in Chicago offers an average dining experience overall. The chicken dishes were enjoyable, tasting fresh and well-prepared, though the beef selections did not quite meet expectations considering their price point. The dessert presentation was appealing, but the taste fell short of the visual promise. A notable inconvenience is the payment method, as you must pay per item individually. This results in repeatedly needing to get up and pay each time you add something new to your meal, which disrupts the dining experience and diminishes service quality.

Google
I stopped by Sinya and had a flat white smooth, creamy, and made just right. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with stylish decor, comfy seating, and a clean, modern aesthetic. Perfect place to enjoy a peaceful coffee break or catch up with a friend. Highly recommend if you're in Chicago and looking for a cozy, high quality café experience! There salads looked very good

Google
Food, service, ambience was a delight. We ordered the Chicken shawarma plate and Chicken kebobs plate, side portion of 6 pieces falafel. Huge portion size. The chicken shawarma plate was a bit disappointing. Since the chicken lacked flavor, the shredded pieces which go inside the shawarma roll was served along with the rice. It was no fun. Go for the falafel, baba ghanoush and hummus. It's yum! The side portion of salad served was fresh and the vinegeratte dressing perfect. Pita bread was soft. But the chicken kebobs- perfectly charred, tender and flavorful. It's an order first and grab a table restaurant with a detailed description menu on the wall.

Google
We chose this place because of the great Google reviews, photos, menu options, and especially because it’s located in the city center and offers halal choices. The interior is lovely and has a charming, authentic design. The food was even more delicious than we expected! Service and quality were excellent — everything truly deserves a full score from us. Also, the fact that such delicious meals were offered at very reasonable prices was a big plus! Being right in the city center also made it an easy choice. A cozy and enjoyable place — thank you so much!

Google
Hidden Gem Alert! Beautifully decorated restaurant with amazing flavorful food. Price is very reasonably. Falafel has an amazing crunch with great interior seasonings. The mixed grill plate will absolutely be my go-to choice when I go back there. They give you a side salad, hummus, & bread. I did try the pistachio latte & unfortunately wasn't my favorite but will definitely try something else next time since they have a lot of other beverage options.

Google
Amazing Mediterranean food, beautifully and abundantly served. Hummus comes with high quality olive oil and warm pita bread. A Jewel in downtown Chicago.

Yelp
**Edited my review because the owner actually cared enough to reach out and make it right. Extremely rare and it feels like genuine teething issues with DoorDash that the owner is keen to fix. Plus as I mentioned - the food and dine in experience is awesome. Excited to give them another try** Similar to some of the other people who have written reviews - the dine in experience is great but pickup order - forget it!!! Absolutely appalling....so disorganized. Waited 30 mins over the estimated pick up time. Do not recommend

Yelp
I had a delivery order for the chicken shawarma wrap, baba ghanoush, and lentil soup. Everything was nicely flavored and pretty tasty. The problem we had was the chicken shawarma -- the meat was dry, chewy, and barely discernible as chicken. Will not visit again.

Yelp
Chicago lacks many options for good Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food. However, I think that Sinya in River North is trying to change all of that. It's located in part of the old Three Greens Market location at the corner of Hubbard and Kingsbury. First, the food was delicious. I ordered the gyro entree, beef shawarma, kunafa, mint mojito and a charcoal latte. Each of the entrees came with a side salad and hummus. I also got some pita bread. The gyro was tender and delicious. I also liked the beef shawarma. Both are must orders. Both of the entrees are huge and more than a meal each. Second, the service was great. The process is that you order at the counter, you take a seat and they bring the food to you. The staff is friendly and my food came out fast and hot, especially the kunafa as it was the perfect temperature for a nice cheese pool. Third, the ambiance is amazing and the decor is beautiful. The entire restaurant is bright and colorful. The colors worked perfectly to make me feel like I was in actually in the Mediterranean. In sum, this is must visit Middle Eastern/ Mediterranean restaurant.

Yelp
I recently got to check out Sinya in River North and I was so blown away by the entire experience here! Sinya is a renowned Mediterranean eatery that serves up delicious dishes like hummus, kebabs, salads, and also the most gorgeous lattes I've ever seen! You order up at the counter at this spot, and the menu is super extensive! We tried a little bit of everything on the menu, so here's the breakdown - Turkish Delight Latte Baklava Latte Iced Pistachio Latte Beef & Chicken Shawarma Wraps Chicken Kabob Entree Plus, the interior is SO cute and there's plenty of room to work from home, hang out with friends, or relax on your own. **Please note that although I received this experience for free, all of my opinions are honest and entirely my own.** Follow @Corrine_Eats on Instagram & TikTok for more!

Yelp
Recently visited Sinya and it exceeded my expectations! It was extremely clean inside and all the staff were helpful and friendly! Do not skip out on their lattes, they were so yummy and I keep thinking about them! They have amazing hummus too so try a side of hummus. We also enjoyed the spicy chicken wrap, it was nice that you could customize it. We also really enjoyed the beef plate. It came with so much food! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
For all you lovers of Mediterranean food- @siny needs to be on your list. I visited the one in the River North area, but they have two locations; the other is in Roscoe village at 3224 N Damen. what I was impressed with the most was how fresh the food was. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has been to a Mediterranean restaurant and had food that tasted processed and like it came from a box out of the grocery store. Not here! Everything I had tasted fresh - from the sauces to the salad dressing to the hummus, the falafel, and even the virgin strawberry Mojito! The hummus was so creamy and the meats were seasoned very well! I tried Knafeh for the first time and it's definitely a new favorite dessert! Initially I was apprehensive about trying it, but once I did, I was like wow! It uses pastry, strands, a sweet cheese and a sweet syrup. You can even add a scoop of ice cream to it if you'd like! It's only available at the River North location from 4 PM to 10 PM. Definitely a must try! And that coffee you see is my Apple Pie Latte! Talk about tasty! It's made with apple butter and cinnamon brown sugar honey. They're for sure one of my new top favorite Mediterranean restaurants in the Chicago area. Stop by for relaxing cup of coffee and maybe a sweet treat and enjoy!

Yelp
Popped in for a big lunch as we didn't realize all this food was going to be serve. It was all so tasty, fresh, and service was quick! The entrees come with salad, hummus and pita. The meat pies are stored at the counter but they bring everything to your table. The meat pies were very tasty. The pistachio latte was AMAZING, not overly sweet or over powered by pistachio flavor and it's beautifully presented. There's plenty of table seating or counter seating, lots of lighting. Highly recommend dining in!

Yelp
Went here on a Friday evening for coffee. It's probably the worst coffee I have ever had. As pretty as it looked it was worse. I got the pistachio latte and baklava latte. Pistachio latte as rich as it sounds it tasted like a cough syrup mixed in latte. Baklava latte was okay . We also got spinach pie and croissant which is not in picture. Spinach pie was okayish and croissant was good. The ambiance is really pretty for a good time. Average crowded. They also had viral dubai chocolate which was good.

Yelp
My, oh. my. What a place. Cozy. Cute. Fresh. The ambiance. Yowsah! As a Yelp Eliter, I don't normally try a place with less than 300 reviews. But Mom and I needed some Mediterranean food, and voila! Just look at the pictures. I don't need to write anything else. It's just as good as it looks. Trust me. and excellent service.

Yelp
This place has really delicious fast service Mediterranean food! You order at the counter, get a number for your table, and seat yourself. There is plenty of seating inside (15-20 tables) and it is a hybrid between a restaurant and a cafe. There are a mix of people catching up with friends/eating a meal/ as well as people here working on their laptops/drinking coffee. I highly recommend both the Keftka Kabob wrap and the lentil soup! The keftka kabob wrap is on a smaller side in my opinion, so I like to order it with the lentil soup to make it more filling.
google avatar

Yelp
This is not the most authentic Mediterranean food you will have but portions are a great size, service is very prompt, and it overall is worth your time. I will likely keep this place in my rotation for a quick bite!

Yelp
I hate having to write this review because up until today I loved this place. But I have never had such a bad/weird experience picking up an order. I went to pick up our order and the young woman up front said it was not ready. I sat down for a couple of minutes. Uber Eats kept saying our order was ready. I finally realized the order was under my husband's first name, not last. So, I went back up and said actually the order is under FIRST NAME. She said, oh yeah, your husband picked it up. I said no he didn't. I just dropped him off at home and told him I would grab dinner. She kept trying to convince me that he did. I said that was not possible. (We live about ten minutes away.) She clearly did not believe me. She said she had to talk to someone else. Another 5-6 minutes, she is speaking with a guy behind the counter, and they still have not given me any sort of update. I went up and asked. The guy (manager?) questioned me about what our order was. I told him and also pulled it up on the Uber Eats app to show him. The young woman behind the counter clearly screwed up and gave our order to someone else, but there was zero ownership of her error. She was now insisting that there must be someone else with the same first name, last initial, and same order. I've been here for about 30 minutes at this point. The guy said they would remake our order, and it would be another 8-10 minutes. I erred on the side of caution and waited in my car for 10 minutes. Went inside again, the young woman at the counter said it's not ready when she saw me. I asked her if she could ask for an estimate. She went in back, returned, and said the guy would help me. Another 10 minutes or so, and he finally brings me the order and questions me AGAIN about what items should be in there. So after about 50 minutes total, I finally have my order. Never received an apology from either of the two people who were "helping" me, and somehow felt like they were trying to make me feel like this was my fault. This is beyond bad customer service. It's gaslighting their patrons to avoid admitting they made a mistake. So disappointing.

Yelp
The service here was amazing. Really kind folks working there and thats a plus when the food is so good too. The chicken shawarma was really , really good. Simple, but cooked perfectly with some garlic taste to it. I could eat that a lottt. Grilled chicken was great too and my favorite of the mixed grill which comes with a lot of rice. Ambiance is cafe like; casual and clean. Would totally come back and recommend.

Yelp
I recently tried Sinya in River North, and I'm so glad I did! This new Mediterranean spot is a great addition to the neighborhood. I ordered pickup for dinner, and everything was excellent. The interior of the restaurant is really unique--kind of a mix between a cafe and a full restaurant. For my meal, I got the Mediterranean salad with chicken shawarma and a side of falafel. The falafel was surprisingly delicious, especially since I'm not usually a fan of falafel. The dipping sauces really made it--garlic, hot sauce, and extra tzatziki were the perfect touches. As for the salad, it was huge and packed with chicken, feta, cucumbers, and olives and a vinaigrette. Everything tasted fresh, and the flavors were spot-on. Overall, Sinya is a fantastic addition to the area, especially since there aren't too many places nearby my apartment building for quick, pickup meals. I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Yelp
Placed a takeout order, and this was certainly a great option to get a good portion of meats and Mediterranean food. For three people this was more than enough: - mixed grill entree: I loved the chicken which had a nice kick - gyro entree: tasty with lots of meat - Mediterranean salad with mixed schwarma: so much meat came with this it basically wasn't much of a salad, meat in this one was on the drier side though Both entrees came with tasty hummus and rice. The pita bread was cold and hard though. The extra sauces I purchased (garlic, spicy, tzatziki) were tasty.

Yelp
Super cute cafe in River north with delicious food and generous portion sizes! We ordered the falafel plate, baba ganoush, impossible Kefta wrap, and waffles fries. I really loved the falafel plate! The falafel balls were crisp and seasoned very well. They were served with seasoned rice with lentils, hummus, pita, and a salad. This was definitely my favorite out of everything we ordered. We almost didn't order the waffle fries but I'm so glad we did! If you like chik fil a waffle fries these are 10x better! Would totally get them again! The hummus and baba ganoush were creamy and flavorful. They have sides of sauce and h highly recommended getting one of each! They have a great list of speciality lattes that I can't wait to check out next time! Overall we really loved Sinya. It's a great addition to river north with great ambience, food and service.

Yelp
Walking in to the restaurant it's a bright airy inviting space that makes you feel instantly at home. You order at the counter and they bring the food to the table. We went for a late lunch but this would be a lovely spot to grab a coffee with a friend or work for a few hours. The staff was friendly and helpful and there are many vegan/vegetarian options. I had spinach pie and the veggie combo plate. Some of the best baba ghanoush I've had in the city and my husband very much enjoyed the spinach pie.

Emily J.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by Sinya! The price might come off as steep, but the portions were enough for at least 2 meals. Everything I ate was good and fresh. The cafe itself is light and airy. I could definitely see myself visiting and spending a few hours working there with a drink.
google avatar

Siena F.

Yelp
I wish I had taken a picture before I DEMOLISHED the chicken kabob plate. It is SO much food for what you pay and all of it is really really tasty. The hummus is spot on, pita is warm and soft, and the chicken was wonderfully seasoned. Ordering at the counter was quick and easy, and the restaurant itself has plenty of seating and is very aesthetically pleasing. Will absolutely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Finally. I no longer have to drive all the way to Roscoe village for arguably the best Mediterranean/shawarma from a casual establishment. Yes this is an expensive lunch but nothing is cheap in river north & you could do a lot worse taste wise. The food is the same as the sister restaurant however this interior is quite appealing. Just in case you haven't read my nor others reviews regarding this place it's the best hummus, falafel & baklava in all of Chicago. I'm sure once words gets out this place will be packed & busy so go now before it becomes Uber popular

ali c.

Yelp
obsessed with this spot! great service, food and atmosphere! definitely recommend! perfect chill spot!

Yelp
Firstly, this place is so roomy inside, with plenty of room to do work or to meet with friends. I have had both a chai latte and a baklava latte, the latter having walnut and pistachio, and both were delicious aids to my homework grind. I also had a small hummus, which for the price was anything but small. I had tons leftover for another time! Servers were nice and very helpful. I will be back soon to try their other specialty lattes!

Shahbaz A.

Yelp
beautiful Mediterranean restaurant serving up delicious food and has a coffee bar too! love the vibes in here and the service is great.
google avatar

Yelp
Inconsistent customer service. Been here a few times where I love to order the "mixed grill entree" which has kabobs of 3 different meats (filet, chicken, kefta). Multiple times they've subbed the kefta kabob for chicken since I don't eat Lamb. Tonight they denied this and claimed chicken was more expensive than lamb.. which is new to me. Asked to see the manager who took 10 mins to come address the situation with us, they didn't offer any solution other than the correction that they don't sub cheaper meats or an apology. Very disappointed with our experience in how they handled this, since the food is so good here.

Yelp
Sinya is a great addition to the neighborhood. I regularly eat the spicy chicken shwarma salad but today went for breakfast. Had the shakshuka with Turkish Delight latte. Love the ambiance and always enjoy the food. Great portions and reasonable prices.

Benjamin R.

Yelp
Tasty food and large portions. The interior decor is nicer than your usual order at counter place and a server brought out order to our table. My wife and I split a small lentil soup. I ordered the salad with mixed shawarma, which I didn't finish. My wife ordered a gyro entree, which also came with a small salad. We were given a plate of hummus with 3 or 4 pieces of good pita bread; I don't know if this was part of the entree or everyone gets it. Careful, the hummus was a little spicy or had a spicy topping. We will eat here again!

Courtney W.

Yelp
Highly recommend! I dined in the restaurant and it was easy to order and the food came quick. The restaurant was bright and clean. The staff was very friendly. We loved every item that we ordered. We got the chicken shawarma warp, grape leaves (6 but also comes in 12), tabouleh (small) and the beef shish kabob entree. All the portions were generous. The entree comes with rice, humus with pita, and a fattoush salad. This will be my new go to spot!

Zach A.

Yelp
Some of the best Mediterranean food in river north. Bang for your buck with the amount of food you get.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Best hummus and baba of my life. Chicken kabob was amazing as well. Highly recommend. I ordered from Uber eats and it was still this amazing

Riddhi P.

Yelp
main girl that works in the front usually is a complete bi***, they should fire her for bad customer service. She takes the wrong order and her customer service skills are bad. Should fire her because the food is good, but this rating is for her.

Eva A.

Yelp
Best chicken kabob in all of Chicago, no joke. The service is super friendly and the restaurant is just so beautifully designed.
google avatar

Chay A.

Yelp
Lemonade was rlly good, wrap was like average. Bread on the wrap was super tough and chewy but sauces were good. Also kinda expensive

Jacob R.

Yelp
I've had Sinya a bunch of times on my own, but I ordered catering for my office today. 10/10. Really excellent. Food is great and massive portions. Service and support from the Sinya team is unmatched. The variety of food we received for the price was also great. Was glad to make new Sinya fans out of my colleagues. Would definitely choose them again.

Tom D.

Yelp
I'm really glad I found this place. It has a delicious menu, polite staff, and a cozy atmosphere.

Lindsey H.

Yelp
Best Mediterranean in the city! Consistent, full of flavor and healthy. We are so lucky to have in the neighborhood! Great breakfast, lunch and dinner spot!!!

Patricia M.

Yelp
Love this place. I have eaten in-had delivery and pick up. I almost always order the falafel wrap, the great lentil soup (better than Sultan's Market) and the past months I've become addicted to the waffle fries. Fresh, tasty and rather large portions. It also adds to the charm that the staff is always friendly and helpful. I usually place my order with Ahmed--- great sense oif humor and so attentive.

Sahar N.

Yelp
Delicious food in a beautiful restaurant! The kefta was amazing and falafel are crunchy and delicious.

Andrew W.

Yelp
Great service and food. As an added bonus, great coffee as well. Highly recommend the Salted Caramel Tahini Mocha. Great for on the go or dining in. Also has a great pre-made hummus for snacking on the go.

Christy B.

Yelp
Extremely good food for extremely reasonable prices. My husband and I kept saying that we hoped a Mediterranean joint would move in nearby for casual stop ins and take out, and this more than fits the bill. Highly recommend.

Vishwa P.

Yelp
was really excited to try this place when i saw the drink menu. tried the turkish delight latte. very disappointed with the latte didn't taste anything like rose just tasted like milk. could have been an off day. would still like to try the other drinks. the inside of the restaurant was very pretty

Michael P.

Yelp
The last few times I've ordered the chicken shawarma, it's been dryer than the Sahara. Tasted like it was made the day before. Everything else is pretty darn good. Great hummus. Great falafel.

Julie T.

Yelp
This place rocks! I'm SO GLAD there's a local Mediterranean restaurant in my neighborhood! I like everything here - I don't think anything is bad.
