Siolim House, Bardez, Goa, India - Explore & Book

"This palatial 300-year-old house once belonged to the Governor of Macau, but like many of Goa’s colonial relics, it was abandoned and left to ruin. Thankfully, this one was saved and has been lovingly restored, with such meticulous attention to detail that it earned a Unesco Heritage award. Some of the windowpanes are made of mother-of-pearl and the walls are traditional shell and lime plaster; there are marble and porcelain details, tall windows with shades and shutters, and a cool inner courtyard lined with pillars. Antique furniture mixes well with contemporary wrought-iron pieces designed by the owner Varun Sood. On the doorstep of Siolim village and the Chapora River, the grand old manor whisks you back to the days of Portuguese Goa. But the rooms are splendid and the atmosphere is easy, laid-back and homely - the ideal place to relax and unwind away from the crowds (the nearest beach is a 10-minute drive). There are pretty gardens and a swimming pool. Alternatively you could opt for Little Siolim, a 3-bedroom villa annexe just a short walk through the village. Highs Most of the rooms (including the bathrooms) are vast, with lovely tiled floors and high beamed ceilingsSet in lush gardens on a quiet back road, it’s a world away from the beach-crowd touts and touristsA 300-year old heritage hotel, rich with old world charm - perfect for a romantic stayThe lovely blue-tiled pool, surrounded by walls of tall bamboo, is a veritable oasis It’s more home than hotel and its laid-back nature engenders a house-party atmosphere - kick back and enjoy good, home-cooked meals (at reasonable prices) Lows The small team of staff, whilst helpful and well mannered, can be a little slowSome of the areas may look a little tired, but the building’s heritage status makes it difficult to go too slick or modernYou'll need a car to reach the beaches and nightlife, if that’s what you wantNearby Little Siolim is right on a busy through road and can be quite noisy, particularly during the day" - Lesley Gillilan

The property is decent and old a Portuguese type one. Staff led by Lindsay is amazing. Makam, Kevin and Dexter who served us were simply too professional and caring. The food was great and well made. Lindsay went out of our way to make the stay memorable. The swimming pool is awesome and the property is well kept. Has a library and rooms were pretty decent. No TV though but no regrets. Peaceful place to stay.

Found this place in website “Make it Happen”. A heritage property, wonderful staff, seems once own, home cooked breakfast and a pool. Quiet and serene located in heart of Siolim. Couple of amazing bars and restaurant nearby, we tried Barrel Maker ( A Pub) & Hosa ( A Fine Dining Restaurant). Otherwise too, the party hub of north Goa is all nearby on a short drive. Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable & clean washrooms. However, the furniture’s are run down (both in room & common area), require maintenance. Pool side gazebo, area requires little upkeep. I am sure, these can be done without ruining the heritage characteristics of the property. Overall stay was satisfactory.

This glorious mansion is a very comfortable place to spend a few days away from the coast. We had a room within the house itself, one of the most spacious rooms I can recall, whose decor reflected its colonial origins. It was comfortable; my only criticism is the loudness of the air conditioning unit. The small restaurant serves good food including afternoon tea and cakes. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The garden has a large and very welcome swimming pool.

We had a great stay at Siolim house. Very relaxing place and perfect spot to chill out at the pool and relax. Lindsay the manager was incredible, so attentive & helpful , as was the rest of his team. There was a great atmosphere at Siolim house and we would definitely return. Beds very comfortable & room cool & quiet with huge bathroom. We did yoga every morning by the pool and really enjoyed breakfast afterwards.

Siolim House is a beautiful and atmospheric small hotel situated in an old Portuguese mansion. The rooms are spacious, the staff are charming and helpful, breakfast is plentiful and other meals can be ordered - we had the most delicious garlic prawns one evening. Outside there is a beautiful pool and space to lounge both in or out of the sun. We were delighted to return this year after our first visit in 2007 - and it did not disappoint. Thanks to Lindsay and the team for making our stay so pleasurable.

Siolim House is one of the most unique and beautiful places I have stayed. My partner and I visited Goa for a friend's wedding and we stopped here with some friends. ||||The hotel has a very relaxing, calming vibe which was perfect for our trip. It is very clean and well maintained, which makes you feel very comfortable. All of the rooms are massive and unique in design, which made the experience very special. ||||We loved relaxing by the poolside each day or having tea in the food area. The breakfast buffet and lunch/dinner that you could pre-order was always yummy and fresh. There's a library and games room where you can chill-out. They also have a wonderful masseuse you can book for a fully body massage in one of the spa rooms. ||||The staff are so sweet and kind - they really made our experience here special. They were able to recommend local antique shops, arrange days out for us (such as the Spice Plantation) and help us with taxis and the rest of our travels around Goa. ||||I cannot wait to return to this beautiful little hotel! I really cannot recommend it enough to anyone who is looking for a place to stay in Siolim. Thank you so much to Lindsay and your lovely team for making our Siolim House experience so special.

Truly a home away from home for our family. The hotel is a pure boutique experience, which many hotels claim but few deliver. Quaint, charming yet packing everything you need in terms of facilities. The rooms are spacious and vintage. The common areas not too big to get lost in, not so small that you cannot spend the day in the hotel itself and enjoy. The fit outs are remarkable; no matter how many times we have been to this hotel, we always explore and find some new piece of antique somewhere to inquire about. The staff is truly remarkable, always smiling and ready to help, give advice.

We recently had the opportunity to stay at Siolim House again and it was an unforgettable experience, as always. We arrived early in the morning and the staff went out of their way to provide us with a room, even though check-in is after noon. We stayed in the enormous and elegantly decorated Maccao room. The property is a beautiful 400-year-old Portuguese villa, converted into a boutique hotel and the atmosphere is great. Guests meet and exchange experiences over a delicious breakfast and later by the pool. The hotel staff is very friendly, always polite and ready to help. Especially the manager Lindsay takes time for every guest and helps them with advice. The food at the hotel is delicious, served by the always cheerful Morji and Kevin. If you want to step out of the hustle and bustle of India into a peaceful oasis, then Siolim House is definitely the right choice.
