Came here last night. TLDR: The drinks are good and the vibe is nice, hard to find a non alcoholic option but I'm looking forward to their full opening.
I found it difficult to get the bartenders to understand I needed something fully non-alcoholic. I ordered two of the passion tea (sorry don't remember the menu) and said several times I don't mind if the "drink doesn't taste right" I just wanted to not have alcohol because me and one other person I was with couldn't drink.
The bartender gave me our drinks and said, FYI there's a little bit of alcohol because that's what gives the flavor (probably a fruit liquor). I said thank you but I absolutely CANNOT have alcohol in these drinks, and he was super concerned it would "taste wrong" because the flavor comes from their alcohol mix ins, which totally makes sense, and I said okay I get that but I cannot have alcohol. He asked me if I'm allergic. And at this point I kind of lost my patience and said, look, one person is a recovering alcoholic and I am on medication so I'm on doctors orders so I CANNNNNOTTT have alcohol. I explained again I'm totally ok with whatever drink and it doesn't have to taste perfect I just can't have alcohol. I don't think it's necessary to explain to any bartender why I need a non alcoholic drink (and most bars are very sensitive to this, which is why a soda and lime is usually not charged, for example) to the point of outing someone for their addiction, a pregnancy, or medical situation.
He remade our drinks (the BootTea without alcohol) which were very yummy and I tipped him a bunch more cash for the labor and the confusion and thanked him for being patient.
Two other drinks that were ordered was the BootTea (I guess their drinks come with one shot so that person wanted a double because it wasn't strong enough) that was reported as enjoyable, as well as a Strawberry Cabana which was reported as tasty and you couldn't taste the alcohol in it. Plus the two non-alcoholic ones we ordered, which were yummy, all around tasty and the boba was a perfect consistency.
To management: I know it's a soft opening and you're clearly trying to watch overhead and manage product experience, I hope this was a learning lesson and you create 1-2 drinks that are alcohol free so that these conversations can go smoother in the future without having to resort to explaining someone's addiction or medicinal situation in front of friends and strangers. Will definitely come back and hope you do well. Welcome to Little Tokyo!
