Coconut Is Everything in Seychelles’ Creole Cuisine | Eater

"When the open-air market on Mahé opens, chefs from hotels and restaurants swarm the fish bars to grab the catch of the day while herons hover and vendors call out in Seychellois Creole, French, and English. By mid-morning tourists and locals weave through a maze of stalls overflowing with colorful fruits, tropical spices, homemade crafts, and specialty items such as lasos piman, cured fish, cardamom, and cinnamon. Coconut dominates the scene in many forms—homemade oils, ready-to-drink husked coconuts, whole fruits for make-at-home milk and cream—and acts as a culinary and economic touchstone for the islands' Creole foodways." - Tyler Zielinski

This is the central market for fruits, vegetables, and fish in Victoria. It is bustling in the morning with the people doing their daily shopping. The second floor is the souvenir shops. Visit it in the morning. By 4pm, they behin closing down snd at 5, the market finishes.

This is the local wet market for Mahe. It has fresh seafood, fruits, vegetables, and other daily "things" for sale here. The market building is typical French style and reflects the colonial period of French occupation.

Small stalls and shops. Great for little souvenirs such as shells, hand crafted wooden items magnets etc but other than that not much to see or do. Local fruit & veg as well as large fish. Don’t go to Victoria just for the market you’d be disappointed.

This market is an epic place. It will be renovated very soon. So I am looking forward to the new look.

The Selwyn Market is a large market located at the centre of Victoria, the capital of Seychelles. The market, built in 1840, is the main market in the whole of Seychelles. This market almost serves as a landmark and is the best place to buy fresh items. The market is set up in the central yard of Victoria surrounded by several small shops and financial services laid out along narrow streets. It is a relatively large colourful marketplace featuring varieties of items including fish, vegetable, fruits, spices, handicrafts, souvenirs and local products. Comparatively the Fish market takes a large space offering the catch of the day. Varieties of small fish including Calamari, Tuna, Barracuda, and Groupers are sold individually or in packs. However, larger fishes, including Shark, are offered as portions/ slice.
