This place was very nicely furnished. I enjoyed the outdoor seating area. It's set up very nice and very relaxing. Our server was very attentive and did a wonderful job serving our group. The food came out hot and delicious! This is a nice jem in the middle of the downtown area and if you love thai food this is the place for you! Will definitely be back! Oh and we got a kick out of the huge mirrors on both walls in the bathroom. We just found it to be funny.

Had a great meal at this Thai spot! The crispy chicken was a standout—perfectly cooked with a delicious balance of sweet and savory. The raw onions on top weren’t my thing, so I’d skip those next time. The Penang curry was also a hit: rich, creamy, and not overly saucy, with tender chicken throughout. Definitely worth a return visit. Service was fabulous and we can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend.

Sisters Thai Cafe: A Cozy Gem Near Rockford Airport We stopped by Sisters Thai Cafe on East State Street during a quick trip to Rockford, and I’m so glad we did! This spot is less than 10 minutes from the airport, super easy to get to, and has both street parking and a small private lot. There’s also a cute little patio area for outdoor dining, which I can imagine is perfect on a warm day. I came during lunch with my 9-month-old and didn’t have a reservation, but we were seated right away. The inside is small but cozy, with smooth jazz playing in the background and a really relaxed vibe. The staff were amazing. I was greeted right away by two team members, and our server—Douangsone, was especially kind. She asked if we needed a high chair (they had one!), interacted with our baby, and was just so warm and thoughtful the whole time. I asked about vegan options, and she mentioned that many of the dishes can be made vegan, including their Penang curry. I ended up going with the Pad See Ew with tofu and veggies, and it came out beautifully presented. The first version I received had a more charred flavor, some folks love that, but personally I’m not a fan of burnt-tasting food. I didn’t even have to ask, Douangsone noticed and immediately offered to replace the dish. The second one came out perfect, fresh, flavorful, and just really well balanced. The tofu was nicely cooked, and the noodles had just the right texture. My baby even loved it! One thing to note: the dish didn’t come with a traditional mixed veggie medley, but the bok choy or greens they used were fresh and tasty, and I actually preferred it that way. Before leaving, I asked for a cup of water to go (I was still traveling), and without hesitation she happily packed it up for me. Just one of those little things that made me feel taken care of. Also worth noting: they do not have a specific lunch menu, but their prices are reasonable—similar to what you’d expect from a good Thai spot. Most dishes run about $12 to $20 depending on what you get. I only ordered one entrée for myself, and it was filling and worth it. A couple things to know: • There’s no changing table in the restroom (it’s a small space), but I expected that and just changed my son in the car. • The restaurant has a chill, intimate feel. Definitely a good date night spot or a peaceful lunch outing. • I did see a family of 5–6 nearby, so it’s family-friendly, but not overly loud or crowded during lunch. • You might want to call ahead for dinner or weekends—it’s small, so I imagine it fills up fast. Overall, this place absolutely earns its 4.5 stars on Google, if not 5. The food was flavorful and fresh, and the service was top-tier. Would 100% come back the next time I’m in Rockford. P.S. I have videos of both Pad See Ew dishes (the charred one and the corrected one), and let’s just say… you can see my baby’s little hand going straight in because it was that good.

Went last Friday with my dad for my birthday. Service was amazing and the live music was awesome. The atmosphere and food was top tier. Thank you. We will be back!

Google
I would give it a 4 because a little pricey, but I was talked into a 5 by the kid. It is authentic, definitely gauge your spice level on a little more heat than you might normally expect from typical American joints. Lots of variety. Service is amazing!!! Wine and beer available, along with soda options. Parking is on the street, which wasn't too bad when we got here. Reservations are recommended.

Google
Regrettably, my dining experience at this establishment fell far below expectations. The food was disappointingly flavorless, lacking the culinary appeal one would anticipate. Moreover, some items were not fully cooked, compromising not only taste but also safety. A notable issue was the excessive oiliness pervading the dishes, rendering them unpalatable and leaving an unpleasant aftertaste. This excessive use of oil not only affected the flavor negatively but also detracted from the overall quality of the meal. In light of these shortcomings, I cannot recommend this place to others seeking a satisfying dining experience. The subpar quality of the food diminishes the restaurant's appeal, and improvements are essential to meet the standards expected by patrons.

We keep coming back here. Dine in or take out. And it’s always a good experience. It’s smack down in downtown Rockford. It’s always busy when we come. And luckily, we usually get seated quickly before it gets too busy. Both inside and outdoor seating are comfortably spaced. Cozy enough where you can still hear each other when it gets a bit full. The servings are plentiful with always enough for left overs. And the staff are always so friendly and accommodating

Google
This place is often great. Last visit was hit or miss. Appetizers were delicious. The Thai tea lacked flavor as did the mango sweet rice... but the mango was super juicy. Hope they continue to provide the awesome quality we are used to. Looking forward to a few improvements to bring back that authentic flavor on the next visit.

Yelp
This is a family friendly restaurant. Sat outside with my daughter and her family includes a toddler and 3 month old. We order sampler appetizer platter. Good start to the meal. We ordered 4 separate entrees. Peanut sauce over noodles with chicken and vegetables and pad see ew (sp) Panang curry All excellent and plenty of leftovers. Highly recommend. Service attentive.

Yelp
Ambiance and outdoor patio area in the summer was beautiful. Easy to host a 6-person family or group of friends at one of the round tables. Servers were very kind and responsive throughout the meal and provided helpful suggestions in reference to the menu. Food quality was very good for such a busy restaurant.

Yelp
Looked up this place, heard the food was great! came at 8:40 pm and they are closed at 10 pm?... no idea but a very bad look for them.

Yelp
Sisters Thai Cafe I went into Sisters Thai Cafe and was seated. We sat for over 15 minutes myself and my son and daughter in law watched the waitress clean a table then seat a white couple. The waitress then asked them for drinks brought it back to the table and took their order never even looked our way. We continued to wait but no service was provided. I'm greatly disappointed and won't ever go back! Shame on you @Sisters Thai Cafe

Yelp
We were pleased to get such authentic Thai food. One of us loves spicy (5), and one likes less spicy (1). The Tom Kha had such a fresh taste with the lemongrass and mushrooms. He had Pad Thai, and I had the Curry Noodles with a yellow curry sauce and coconut milk, yum yum. Friends happened to be there, so we all joined together, talking with the owner like we were in someone's home.

Yelp
Sisters Thai Cafe is FANTASTIC!! While driving through Rockford Illinois, we decided to grab some lunch. We didn't know what we were in the mood for or what downtown Rockford had to offer. We saw their cute storefront and wondered in. Who knew we would find delicious, authentic Thai cuisine in this small town in the mid-west. But we did! With every bite, we kept saying how good everything was. The server told us the owner was in the kitchen at that very moment. She really knows what she is doing and knows how to make her customers happy. When we walked into this small storefront business, we were pleasantly surprised by the warm yet urban atmosphere. Cool artwork and brick walls created the perfect backdrop for a delicious meal. Our server was a great guy who was so helpful and pleasant. He checked on us often, even though there was a busy lunch crowd. He made a great meal even better. Hey Rockford, you are lucky to have the gem in your town!

Yelp
food was great. service was great. Mmmmm yummy. thai tea is so good, absolutely recommend

Yelp
Love the food and staff here. Our go-tos are Pad Kee Mao, Panaeng Curry, Basil Chicken, Nam Kow and of course their Thai Spring Rolls! Chicken Pho is our favorite winter fare. Yum! Great patio. Wine Wednesday specials. Love it!

Roxanne C.

Yelp
The worst Thai I've ever had. The pad Thai were so flavorless, the noodles were basically white. It had that weird tomato taste and zero spice. I grew up in cali and I've tasted many authentic Thai. I asked the waiter on a scale of 1 to 10 how spicy is it and she says zero! I've never been at a Thai restaurant that says zero that's crazy. My boyfriend got I think the drunken noodles I think and even he agreed that it was very disappointing as well.

Angelique S.

Yelp
I love tai food like especially Penang curry but they took it off the menu when I went back
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
this restaurant has nice ambiance seating. the food however I wasn't impressed with the egg rolls were super oily and not drained the tofu with peanut sauce was decent. ordered chicken cashew the sauce was like water not much flavor. the tofu fried rice with egg tasted like burnt egg not very appetizing at all. the server offered to get another dish spicy noodle that was a little better at least. overall I wouldn't recommend eating here I have had way better thai than this.

Yelp
I ate here by myself for a late dinner. I was told by a friend that it was good and since I like Thai restaurants, I wanted to give it a shot. The thing is, almost all Thai places I've been to serves Pho, which is actually a Vietnamese dish. But I always bounce between Pad Thai, random curries, and pho. Pho is usually my go to because I love noodle soups and it's the most comforting to me. The pho at Sisters Thai Cafe is pretty darn good. Not as good as the ones I've had in Nashville (where I'm from) but it hits the spot. I ordered beef pho with brisket (basically extra meat). The broth was intense, flavorful, and actually a extra oily from the meat, which I actually prefer. It makes for a rich, filling soup. The sprouts, basil, cilantro, and lime added a fresh and light characteristic that countered the heaviness from the meat and broth. You can never go wrong with pho and Sisters Thai Cafe has pho that's on par with other Thai restaurants I've been to.

Yelp
What a great spot for downtown Rockford. This used to be a place called Bamboo and I was so sad when they closed down, but honestly I like it even better as Sisters. Do yourself a favor and even if you've never heard of it before, get the pad see lew! (Some places call it pad see ew, not sure if there's a difference) By far our favorite thing on the menu. It's the perfect mix of sweet and savory. Also some spring rolls as an appetizer beforehand never hurts either. Other meals we've tried and liked have been the pad Thai, orange chicken, curry, and if you like spicy, the Pad Kee Mao. They have a full bar with drink specials they change up every now and then. Like right now, I believe it's half off wine on Wednesdays. They also have video slots in the back.

Emily G.

Yelp
The vegetable Tom Kha soup here is easily my favorite dish in all of Rockford. My partner and I get it every time we order from Sister's, and spend the whole time eating it making gleeful noises and thanking the universe for good food.
google avatar

Missy B.

Yelp
Great local spot - food was really good. They only serve beer and wine - that was a surprise for us so I thought important to note. It got quite busy so I would recommend reservations.
google avatar

Jordan P.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service! Worth a visit in my opinion. A lot of vegetarian options too.
google avatar

Yelp
i only had the tom kha soup and tea, based on that alone the soup was very tasty. vibes inside was nice, nothing fancy but that's ok, service was good, no complaints would def come back and try more things off the menu

Yelp
I only gave this spot 4 stars because it is a bit pricey for the servings the give. Other than that the food is delicious. We have gone here several times and ordered different items, their Pho broth is good. Service was great, their servers/waitresses were friendly and attentive. We have never had to ask for a refill or more water. Amazing staff, they even apologize for the "long wait" due to a rush of people who came in. It wasn't even long. Definitely will be coming back!

Sung K.

Yelp
We walk in and the bartender seats us while also forgetting to get menus. We waited 5 minutes before getting the menus and apparently had to order water at the same time. (She asked us what else we wanted to drink but we had just literally gotten our menus..) fast forward we ordered the pot sticker app and chicken satay app to start. The Satay chicken was cooked decently and was quite tender but lacked any flavor. The sauce that came with it had a very light flavor.. the whole dish tasted like the essence of fried chicken. Interesting choice Chef. The pot stickers were pot stickers. For dinner, My wife got the Chicken teriyaki stir-fry with a bowl of white rice. When our waitress brought the rice it looked like it had been sitting in the rice pot for a week with all the brown spots and over-hardened pieces of rice.. The chicken was dry but the worst part was the sauce. Bland and void of any personality. Always too sweet or too watery at any given point. At least they're consistent with that. Thanks again chef. I ordered the beef pad Thai. The beef looked like it had been sitting in a liquid for some time before being soaked up with a napkin when served. The vegetables looked so rushed. All the pieces were cut so thick and the noodles were practically melted together. They need to take the Thai out of their name. It's insulting. Try 'Sisters Tried cafe'. I was already really annoyed at this point. My wife wanted something sweet so we got the Lava Cake cause we overheard the people next to us saying it was so good. We got the cake. When we dug in, the first thing I noticed was the empty dryness of the cake. Every single lava cake I've ever had has always been moist or at least textured. The cake came with vanilla ice cream that was super hard. But the WORST part was when we both looked at each other and realized there wasn't any chocolate sauce in the LAVA CAKE. You guys are a disgrace masked with a weird Indiana jones-chipotle ambiance. If you're going to service noodles and stir-fry, please go back to the basics and perfect the basics. We will not be dining here again. Thanks for nothing. ($75 meal + tip)

Yelp
Great place, great food and great service. A winner in Rockford! We dine there often. It has become a favorite.

Yelp
Very good Thai food. Gets really during lunch. Get there early. I think the curry dishes are very good. The chicken salad is execptional..sercice is on point. I love this place

Jim M.

Yelp
Food was satisfactory. The portion size was about right. Service was excellent. Went at noon on a Friday there was plenty of seating.

Yelp
Let's start with the good.... The place is nice inside. Very trendy, exposed brick, cool downtown business. Now the bad.... The food sucked. The service was just as bad. I'm used to excellent Thai food. (Thara Thai in Champaign is AMAZING) Sisters is the second or third Thai place in Rockford that I tried and it was just awful. Nobody compares to the level of Thai that I'm used to eating. The food scene in Rockford sucks and I'm more and more convinced of that every time I dine out here in Rockford. It's just horrible. I never realized how good I had it in Champaign. Sisters Thai came out warm at best and it just wasn't good Thai. They're also too proud of the food! Too expensive for what you get and the service was horrendous . If this is the best Rockford has for Thai, I give up! Wouldn't go back, even if it were free!
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
Heard about this from a friend. We went and had a wonderful dinner. We had Penang, yellow curry, pad Thai, and orange chicken, the appetizer sampler. The shrimp appetizer was so flavorful it was the best I have had. My fri d thought the spring roll was the best she has had. The yellow curry was almost like my homemade one very good. The pad Thai had good notes nice flavor and even good as leftovers. We had enough food we ordered 4 meals and an appetizer for 3 people. And no one finished anything. Go check it out. You will not be disappointed. They also had outdoor seats.

Evan O.

Yelp
Great ambience, decent service and decent food. The food is ambiguous Asian fusion; don't come here expecting Thai flavors.
google avatar

Tera W.

Yelp
The food is tasty and fresh. Servers are responsive. Good options for adult beverages. The ambiance is awesome. Vegan options are available.
google avatar

Alicia W.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got to have dinner here last night. There were definitely a lot of options for entrees. I don't eat Thai food much but looking at their Facebook page helped me see what the dishes looked like so I could visualize what I was getting. My boyfriend and I shared a sampler platter for an appetizer. I really enjoyed everything that was on there but especially the crab Rangoon. That was my favorite. For entrees I decided on the Pad Mee with shrimp and my boyfriend got the Pad Thai with shrimp. They were very generous portions for each of our dinners. I really enjoyed my dinner and I can't wait to go back and try more menu items.
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
Excellent service and delicious food! Located amongst the best of the local Rockford restaurants and this one is top notch! A variety of beautifully presented dishes that are not only appealing to the eye but also to the stomach. All dishes can be specialized to your liking so if spicy is your thing, do not be afraid to ask. Keep it local, support our mom and pop places, keep them alive!
google avatar

Alan G.

Yelp
Cute little bar and restaurant. Staff is very friendly. Chicken Satay was very good. The Green Curry could have used a little more spice but came out piping hot (molten lava). It was really good. Mango sticky rice was a really refreshing dessert. Will definitely return.
google avatar

Tim F.

Yelp
Chicken Satay was soggy and had enough salt in to stabilize an elephant. Don't even done there door step

Ken S.

Yelp
I really would like to give this place, Sisters Thai, four or five stars. I have been here a number of times, it's really nothing special, , run-of-the-mill food. I wish it was more, my experience is that it is not. Service was good, but the food is just ordinary at best

Sarah G.

Yelp
Amazing amazing amazing! Best service. Beautiful ambiance. Food phenomenal. This is the only restaurant in the city that my 10yo son finishes his entire plate.

Haley L.

Yelp
Sat in for lunch and ordered the red Thai curry chicken. Took awhile to get my food, that's alright as long as the food is good. Right? Well the food was horrible I took a bite and asked the lady to please go back and have it fixed. She went back for MAYBE a minute and came back out with the same exact bowl of food. I tried another bite and told her that it still tasted the same not only did she try to charge me for this meal they also tried to add on gratuity to my bill. I will not be returning
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
I want to drink the dipping sauce for the fried tofu appetizer. Love this place. The patio is a rare treat as not enough places in Rockford have one.

Nicole C.

Yelp
slowest service I've ever received. After being scolded that the patio area was full the hostess (I assume) walked away from my group of friends. working in the service industry myself, I sympathize with servers who get overwhelmed. However never do I make the customer feel like they are an inconvenience. This hostess made my group feel like an inconvenience. After about 15 or so minutes of standing around because we still wanted to eat even if it meant we were inside...the host offers us a patio seat after she cleans it off. Okay just fine. It takes her less than 5 minutes to clean the table and when the table was ready she scolds us again to come with her. At this point I was upset not because I hadn't been seated, but because we had been treated terribly twice in the first 20 minutes of being there. Ashley was our server I believe. We sat for about 15 minutes before she finally greeted us (After she walked past our table 5 times and other servers did as well Not acknowledging us or reassuring us that someone will come take our orders soon) she right off the bat asked for appetizers AND entrees. When our appetizers finally came out things started to look up but it was short lived. we didn't get our food for another 30 minutes after being told it was going to be up shortly after the appetizers and when we asked for boxes because we had to walk a far distance back to our cars ( at this point they were going to be closing soon and the sun was no longer out) she was able to get us the boxes and check quickly but then took ANOTHER 15ish minutes to grab our bills back. Even after i mentioned we really needed to get going before it was darker out. I had to go inside and find her giggling and laughing with her coworker at a POS system. she was able to prioritize all of her tables and visit them regularly checking in but not once did someone acknowledge our group that was RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DOOR AND ROGHT NEXT TO THEIR KITCHEN. It was sad and very disappointing. Please work on your service sisters Thai. You have such great food but sincerely need nicer and better staff. Its a Small restaurant with great food and great prices. Please don't let your staff kill your business.

Shea H.

Yelp
We discovered Sisters Thai cafe in 2022. We loved the food, the atmosphere and friendly service. However, something has changed, for the worse, in the last couple months. Back in Dec, I had an entire glass of water spilled in my lap by the server. Now accidents happen, but for there to be nothing offered in the way of a couple bucks off the bill, a free dessert - something, left us thinking that was a lame reaction to drenching me. The next time we went it was within an hour of lunch serving time ending, and we latched onto that as a reason for such poor food quality. We were really disappointed with our Pad Thai and yellow Curry dishes. Thinking that we just hit a bad day last time, we went again last week. Unfortunately, were again disappointed by both food quality and service. We had to wait a long time to even get menus and then quite a while for our order to be taken. The Pad Thai was dried out - seemingly not enough sauce, and barely warm. It also took a long time to get our bill and pay. I dont know if there's a new cook, new servers, or what, but we are highly disappointed after we thought we had made such a grand find in this restaurant about a year ago.

Yelp
The food here is always fantastic. I love the drunken noodles with tofu. The Thai iced tea is so good! I enjoy eating dinner here. The staff are all friendly and the service is great. Always quality and great food. The ambiance is really nice inside and a great spot to dine.

Yelp
Great was my experience Ordering and pick up the take out was a breeze! Food was delicious, some of the nicest Thai I have had in a while! (I eat a lot of thai food when travelling) Heat levels were spot on!! :) Tom Yum Seafood Soup _ Delicious!! Summer (Healthy) Rolls - Delicious!! Red Chicken Currey - Delicious! Will be back when next in town!!

Yelp
I do like Thai cuisine and on a recent trip to Rockford, I searched for one. This place has good reviews and is conveniently located downtown. It has an outdoor side area which is quiet and has shade umbrellas. The service was great and the taste of the dishes and their portion sizes were welcome. Overall, a good solid restaurant.
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
Best thing on the menu is the pad kee mao--- soo yummy!!! I also very much enjoy the shrimp roll appetizer. Nothing I've had here has been bad but I have my favorites!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant! I highly recommend: - fresh spring rolls - crab rangoon - any curry - pho Basically everything! They never fail to be delicious, prompt, and professional.
google avatar

Yomi O.

Yelp
I had the seafood red curry. This was the worst Thai I ever had. Pale flavorless and watered down. Ridiculous. I love Thai and even travelled to Bangkok solely to enjoy the cuisine.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Their Panang Curry is so delicious; they use a lot of basil and it freshens the peanuty taste, and it's so fragrant, and it's basically the only entree I ever order. Their fresh and fried spring rolls are both tasty. Inside is pretty, so much better than their first location, and the service is great. Hopefully this won't be relevant for long, but their pickup procedure during lock down is perfect.
google avatar

Jenny B.

Yelp
Beautiful surroundings, great service and delicious food. Nice to see this establishment in downtown Rockford.

Yelp
Ordered: Fresh Rolls, Special Eggplant, and Basil entree The food was great, the service was friendly, and the prices were fair. 10/10 would recommend giving this restaurant a try if you're in the downtown Rockford area!

Yelp
Came here yesterday and was seated immediately, brought a glass of water and the waitress then asked if we had ever been there and then told us her suggestions. We both ordered Pad Thai, i got tofu, and my friend got chicken. Our meals came out piping hot within 10 minutes of ordering. I did ask for my dish spicy, however the waitress so kindly recommended she bring out a spice rack that they can provide for you for me to be able to add however much of the different types of spice as i like. LOVE THAT IDEA. Also, the spices inside the rack were amazing, great fresh flavors all around. The portion was generous, the taste was like a party in my mouth. The tofu was a little dense and flavorless but the overall meal was out of this world! I love a great Thai place and I'm so glad we tried this! We will definitely be back !! Plenty of seating, very reasonably priced, extra parking on both sides of the building, wonderful staff.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant for the first time with my husband, and we are impressed. It's a cozy, quaint little cafe in downtown Rockford with plenty of seating and a modern look that gives off an industrial vibe. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs and very kind to us! We both shared the crab Rangoon and both agree it tasted so fresh. I ordered the orange chicken. It was scrumptious! Most of the time orange chicken at other restaurants is very syrupy and tastes artificial. This entree tasted so homemade, the sauce looked like a purée and you could really taste fresh orange in the dish. They also brought this adorable generous pot of rice for us to share that paired with our meals. I thought that was neat. My husband ordered the yellow chicken curry and he loved it. It was definitely bursting with flavor! We're so glad we gave this place a try after living in Rockford for 2 years. We will be back!
