Maybe it's because cakes are more of their specialty, or I got the wrong items (they had a BIG selection) or that my expectations were high, but...yeah, I miss Doraville.
I got a pandan coconut bun, a taiwanese lotus egg yolk cookie, a mung bean bun, a bacon cheese baguette, and a couple of the big macaroons (chocolate and...I think raspberry?)
Anyways, the mung bean bun and the lotus cookie were way too sweet. The pandan coconut bun was almost the opposite, but the main problem was I could barely taste the pandan. The taste of the eggs in the dough was stronger than the actual main flavors.
The bacon cheese baguette had a good flavor, but while I don't mind fatty bacon this bacon really was at least 80% fat.
The macaroons were the one item where besides the texture (that may have been partially because I didn't eat them straight away and put them in the fridge) I really did like. Besides looking really cool because they were as big as my hand, they were pretty decent (the raspberry one didn't have much flavor other than vague sweetness, but the chocolate one had a lovely flavor).
Overall: in the things I tried, there wasn't much flavor and a fair amount was too sweet, or had other issues. My least favorite Chinese bakery in the Atlanta area I liked a lot better than this, and there were four others I preferred to it. I'll have to keep looking for something like my old favorites.
