On the Grid : Six Ping Bakery

"This small chain of Asian bakeries offers delicious breads, cookies, cakes and other treats. Enticing loaves and buns wrapped in cellophane line the shelves. They are stuffed with dreamy custards and creams and exotic fillings such as Taro, Green Tea, Red Bean and Mochi. We were intrigued by the Watermelon Toast and crab-shaped Super Q Kawaii Bread Crab Taro. Everything we tried was obviously baked fresh that day." - ph Design Shop

My favorite Chinese bakery :) We always buy so many different kinds of bread/cake/cookie everytime we visit the store, everything is delicious. Birthday cakes are awesome, my favorite flavor is the Toro one, my husband loves the black forest - actually he just had one for his birthday recently.

Love the cakes from this spot. Reminds me of the cake from my childhood. They’re not overly sweet and the cream/cake ratio is good. The cashier could be more friendly to the customers. She got impatient when we had to get more items to use credit card, then she was impatient when we tried to use the Amex card. Lesson learned. There’s minimum for card and no Amex.

I love this bakery! They always have great breads and cakes. They helped me out with a last minute order of two cakes (durian and taro) that they were able to get to me same-day before a party. The cakes were so pretty and tasted great!

Six Ping Bakery in Houston’s Chinatown is a must-visit for fresh, affordable Asian pastries. They offer a huge variety—from pork floss buns to egg tarts—and everything is soft, flavorful, and reasonably priced. It’s mostly self-serve, which keeps things fast even when it’s busy. The real standout, though, is their taro cake. Made with real taro, it’s lightly sweet with a unique, rich texture that’s hard to find anywhere else. If you’re a taro lover, this alone is worth the trip. Whether you’re picking up a few snacks or stocking up, Six Ping delivers every time.

Looking for a great local Bakery? Check out Six Ping. They have a wide variety of desserts, breads, sweet, treats, to go around. From Japanese cheesecakes, mango cakes, breads, to almond cookies. They have a huge selection to choose from to feed your next sweet tooth craving. Made fresh daily! Service was friendly and helpful, showing us her favorites choice's. Just check out all the different varieties available in the pictures and videos. A bag of cookies was $4.25. To us this is priced right. You're able to stretch your dollar here and get plenty of choices. We will definitely be back for more. Until next time.

We were excited to try the giant macarons but very disappointed. They were both completely hollow on the inside which means they did something wrong. Either they were cooked at a temperature too high or the meringue wasn't properly made. They also didn't have any flavor and both kinds (strawberry and lemon) actually tasted the same, only difference is the food coloring. Very disappointing that they were not made properly and also didn't have any flavors.
