Stay in September 2025 – Three Nights at Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain
We spent three nights at Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain in September 2025. As this was our first stay at a Six Senses resort, our expectations were accordingly high.
The resort itself is spaciously laid out and beautifully nestled within the surrounding landscape. However, many parts of the property show visible signs of aging. Paintwork has faded, and wooden surfaces are weathered – a renovation seems necessary to bring the resort back in line with the standards suggested by its online images and marketing.
Our room was spacious and clean. The small panda plush toys left as a welcome gift were a charming touch. Unfortunately, the air conditioning was very disruptive at night, switching on and off every couple of minutes. During turndown service, used towels placed on the floor were not replaced – something that should not happen in a property of this category.
Overall, service throughout the resort only partially lived up to the expectations of a five-star hotel. One notable exception was the team at the Thai restaurant, who were attentive, warm, and professional. In contrast, the outdoor pool area lacked any kind of service: guests had to fetch towels themselves, and even basic amenities like water or mosquito repellent – which was clearly needed – were not available, even upon request.
Breakfast offered a good selection of international and Chinese dishes. However, the staff in the breakfast area were often inattentive, despite not appearing particularly busy. The coffee was consistently weak and watery, and tea was served in a single large mug. Given the significance of tea culture in China, we had expected a more thoughtful and refined presentation.
At check-out, no one inquired about our stay or wished us a pleasant onward journey. Upon request, we were at least given a bottle of water for the trip to the airport. In general, the team gave the impression of focusing more on quick guest turnover rather than delivering a holistic five-star experience.
Our conclusion: The resort has great potential and is located in a beautiful setting. However, the current standard does not meet what we expect from Six Senses or a true five-star property. We sincerely hope this experience is not representative of the brand as a whole – our upcoming stay at Six Senses Koh Samui later this year will be a chance to see whether the chain can still live up to its reputation.
