Sizzle and Crunch bring me back to my college days. I remember when they first opened in U-District and the crazy line out the door to get a yummy Chipotle-style Vietnamese rice bowl (or banh mi) topped with fried egg and their iconic green sauce (cilantro mayo). They have since expanded to South Lake Union and now Bellevue.
My friend and I were excited to visit their Bellevue location for the first time on a weekday evening a couple of weeks ago.
The new Sizzle and Crunch in Bellevue has street parking and I believe parking in the adjacent apartment building, but don't quote me on that because I didn't park in there. The inside is clean and modern with 10-15 booths/tables.
My friend ordered their Pork Bowl ($14.99) and I ordered a Build Your Own Vermicelli bowl with half salad/half vermicelli, grilled chicken ($11.99), vegetables, egg (+$1.99), and green sauce. With tax and tip, my total came to $17.71.
The grilled chicken was just as phenomenal as I remember- super well-marinated, sweet, savory, and perfectly charred. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy. However, I have to say that I remember portions being larger in U-District as I used to barely be able to finish a bowl on my own. Eggs were also half the price 5 years ago ($1), but with the egg inflation, I'm not surprised that an egg costs $2 now. While I like that they have vermicelli noodles as a base option now, I wish they offered brown rice as an option. The green sauce was also fantastic, but I wish they gave you more of it as well as sides of fish sauce or soy sauce as there just wasn't enough sauce for the bowl.
Another downside is that even if you order for here, they give you plastic takeout containers which seem like a waste to the environment, especially because they're not compostable. I would love it if they switched to real bowls or at least compostable paper bowls. Also, other than putting your bowl together, there isn't really any service involved as you bus yourself at the end of your meal.
Tables and floor are clean. They were also quite busy for a weekday night.
Overall: 3/5 for food, 3/5 for service, 3.5/5 for atmosphere
