New Boston Restaurant Openings, November 2025 | Eater Boston

"A new chapter from Boston’s queen of comfort cuisine, this near-Chinatown opening showcases Chef Sarah Wade’s bistro-inspired, globally influenced cooking—think indulgent uni butter cacio e pepe, wagyu steak frites with tallow fries, and a confit rabbit leg. The food and drink are hearty, like you’ll find at her other restaurants, Stillwater and Sloane’s, but “It’s fun, bistro, chef-y food,” Wade says." - Tanya Edwards

New Boston Restaurant SJ’s Opens in Leather District | Eater Boston

"In the Leather District near Chinatown, this blue-and-gold Art Deco bistro is where chef Sarah Wade indulges her “fun, bistro, chef-y” side, blending fancy French influences and global inspirations into funky comfort dishes. The menu riffs playfully with pork rillette macarons and a prawn toast she has been workshopping for years, alongside a robust lineup of pastas like an indulgent uni butter cacio e pepe, wagyu steak frites with tallow fries, and a confit rabbit leg seasoned with sal de gusano, an Oaxacan mix of toasted agave worms and dried chiles. A long marble bar anchors an elevated space that leans on high-end ingredients and aims to draw after-work drinks, dinner dates, and friend groups just a block from South Station. Classics headline the beverage list—think a Rusty Nail and a Gibson with infused vermouth and your choice of gin or vodka—and, in a nod to her husband James’s love of beer, the team strives to pour a perfect pint of Guinness. Despite the chill, patio seating adds 24 al fresco spots to the 102 indoors, with heaters and hearty plates encouraging lingering through the fall." - Celina Colby

While in town for a recent conference dinner reservations were made and we were told, it already made the Eater Boston "Top New Restaurants" list, so there was already a 99% chance they'd be good. And when I say it’s new, It opened on November 4, so you still can’t find it on Google maps…. I was given the address and hailed the Uber. It’s in a high-rise just across the street from the South station bus station. It’s a a quaint place, With a sleek design and inviting feel. Because this was a business dinner, I couldn’t take photos of the food like I usually do. We started with the Tallow fries. I could’ve had my own bowl. Those were super delicious. Some of the meals that I remember, were the bolognese, The carrot-ginger pasta, and the rabbit leg. In the end, there was not a morsel left in anyone’s plate. I even went for the dessert and tried the apple mille fuille… This was the most delightful thing I’ve had in a long time. I wish I lived closer because I would certainly return, but it’s definitely on my list for the next time. I’m in the area. I tried to snag a few photos as we ended our night. I can guarantee you may see some empty seats now, but it was an early dinner on a Wednesday night and if they keep up food, this good those seats will not be empty long!

Great new spot that just opened up near South Station (in the leather district). They are open for lunch and dinner. My family and I came for dinner and had a nice time! I would highly recommend the tartine, which was very homey and warm. Both the SJ salad and beet salad were large enough for 2 people to share and full of flavor. For our entrees, we split burgers and they came with these tasty tallow fries that were crispy and salty. Lastly, be sure not to miss out on their fantastic desserts made in-house. The carrot cake and olive oil chocolate might’ve been the star of the evening.

As promised, “Good Food, Done Well” The menu is full of dishes that are impressive, without being unnecessarily flashy. The steak frites were exceptional, with the fries getting extra flavor from the tallow fry. The real standout was the beet and persimmon salad. The salty labneh and beets were balanced perfectly with the sweet permission and pumpkin brittle.

lovely restaurant close to south station, plenty of space for suitcases which is useful being so close to the station. The staff were lovely and I had one of my best meals I have had in my time in the US although it was slightly quite at 2pm on Monday it would be great for a meeting clients etc as nothing worse than shouting over a crowd.

So happy to have SJ’s in the neighborhood! We went for dinner during their first week and were really impressed. Everything from the food to the service to the atmosphere was spot on. The burger and uni carbonara were both fantastic, and the team couldn’t have been friendlier or more welcoming (especially with my kiddo in tow). Can already tell this is going to be a new favorite spot!

Came across this wonderful spot after flying in from San Juan. Initially, we felt embarrassed for being underdressed, but the host made us feel very welcome. Our server was warm and friendly, and very attentive. The fritto misto appetizer was delicious, and the homemade pasta was excellent. The demi for the steak frites was my favorite bite of the day. We look forward to visiting again in the future!

There’s a lot to like here. Had the Shrimp Toast, Pork Rillette Macarons, Beet & Persimmon Salad, & Steak Frites + a Manhattan, and got Carrot Cake to go. Everything was delicious individually, but overall the menu feels all over the place gastronomically, and trying to put together a cohesive set of dishes was really challenging. The menu was also (for a Sat night) really heavy on sandwiches and there were only 3 entree options? Service at the bar was on point. But the overall lighting in the restaurant was too bright for an 8:30 dinner. And the fake fire places playing on the TV’s was an interesting choice. Food wise the only miss for me was the macarons. Love the idea of them, but texturally the macaron shells were super chewy and didn’t have that crisp outer layer. While the rillettes themselves were tasty enough the serving temp was on the cold side and didn’t give that rich, creamy, unctuous texture that you want from a good macaron. Also not sure why they were served in a pool I’ve olive oil? The Shrimp toast was a set of perfectly crisp golden bites I’d gladly eat again with a cocktail or glass of wine. The Steak was cooked to a textbook perfect med-rare, and the accompanying fries were crisp and perfectly salted. Will definitely stop by in a few weeks again or maybe sooner if menu gets an update.
