Stopped by here for a coffee after a run and this place just really isn't for me.
What I do love about this spot is the ambiance and space. Seems like a great spot to study or work for the day with different seating options like tables, the coffee bar, window seats. Also, the barista was super quick and kind, especially when they were the only one behind the bar and taking orders. If I ever come back, I would probably opt for a pastry since it looked delicious.
I really disliked my coffee to the point of trying to drink at least half of it before just throwing it away. My friend also tried it and thought it tasted rancid.
When I went up to order I ordered a vanilla cold brew. The barista corrected me and said their vanilla was called Sweet Gallium, and it was their 'take' on vanilla. I said fine since I assumed it would still taste similar. The barista asked if I wanted dairy or oat for milk - I asked if there was almond and they just repeated what they said which was just a bit odd. I can't to oat so I opted for dairy - I probably should've asked what that meant because it ended up being whole milk. When I paid this iced coffee was over $7, which is outrageous. I get cold brews with flavors and milk alternatives in North Loop funky shops for less.
The barista made the drink quickly, and was super passionate about it - they explained how Sweet Gallium is a type of flower and it adds a beautiful flavor to the coffee. They also let me say 'when' for how much milk I wanted which was nice since I didn't want a lot of whole milk in there.
The Sweet Gallium tastes nothing like vanilla and the coffee was extremely acidic. The mix of the two made it taste like it was spoiled. I love a rich roast but this just wasn't for me. Someone else's review said that their coffee was a bit sour and I definitely agree.
I would come back and maybe try a matcha, but the price has me turned off overall.
