Innovative cocktails crafted from house spirits in a speakeasy vibe

"Though you don’t have to know any secret knocks or seek out a light letting folks know it’s open, Skaalvenn Distillery is one of the most original cocktail lounges just outside of the metro. Wander the labyrinth of the unassuming Brooklyn Park business center’s carpeted floors, past the sunken plaza that recalls mall-rat memories of many a visitor’s youth, and follow signs for Skaalvenn. You’re in for a quick switch from drop ceilings and harsh panel lights to a dark and cozy ambiance. The cocktails feature the distillery’s spirits. The menu is secretive and changes weekly — but rest assured there’s something for everyone from a clarified milk punch to a modern twist on an Old Fashioned, and the skilled mixologists are happy to whip up an expertly made classic cocktail for you, too. On Thursdays, its Tiki Night. Reservations are available on Tock." - Natalia Mendez

"On Sunday February 5, Tomoiki Sekine will head north to Brooklyn Park for a cocktail pop-up at Skaalven Distillery from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m." - Justine Jones

"This proudly Nordic aquavit offers powerful notes of anise, caraway, and orange peel; serve it ice cold for a sharp sip or mellow it with soda water — it’s an excellent bottle to send someone missing Minnesota." - Joy Summers

"As the newest cocktail room in town, Skaalvenn is a cozy spot to lull away winter nights and, if you’re feeling posh, serves the Hot hot hothothot! Toddy in a lovely teacup with bourbon, ginger, chamomile, lemon, honey, almond orgeat cream foam and finished with nutmeg and a lemon expression." - Alex Lodner

"Another veteran-owned distillery, Skaalvenn uses unrefined, non-GMO products to produce its vodka, rum and aquavit. Skaalvenn’s habenero rum is no gimmick, but a great balance of heat and flavor. Meanwhile, the vodka imparts a pleasant hint of caramel flavor. Although, there’s no cocktail room, the bottles are relatively easy to find in area liquor stores." - Joy Summers
