Yes, this restaurant has a billion reviews and they are all 5 stars, and I am here to tell you that they deserve every single one of the 5 star reviews.
The food is magnificent. One thing we were advised to do, and I would like anyone reading this to also consider doing, is to BE ADVENTUROUS when you go there. The owner and chef is a Californian native but he shared with us that he has Norwegian ancestry, specifically from the Sámi people, which is an indigenous tribe living above the arctic circle. Some of his menu items (which we were so fortunate to try - the smoked red deer heart with cloudberries) are from that culture.
It was SO delicious.
In fact, everything we had, was amazing. We also had, at our server's recommendation, a Japanese hamachi and scallops small dish. It was fresh and flavorful. The great thing about Norway (at least, this is my takeaway) is that they KNOW FISH and seafood.
The next small dish we tried was some savory crepes with mushrooms. I think this was my next favorite dish, next to the smoked deer heart. We also enjoyed the salad, which had the most unique pears either of us ever had. Afterwards, we were on the restaurant's Facebook and saw that the pears were made with Gløgg, "a Norwegian mulled wine with Aquavit, citrus, cinammon, cardamom, star anise and clove." Yum.
Then we had our main entree, which was the Canadian duck breast. Our server recommended either the pork belly confit or the duck breast. I don't eat pork, so we went w/the duck. If you look through the reviews, this is one of the entrees people love, and for good reason. It was tender, flavorful, the skin was crispy, the sauce delicious. No Ikea lingonberries here ;)
We also couldn't pass up dessert, and we had the frozen carmelized macadamia nut & vanilla bean parfait. If you need any proof that this was an epic dessert, just check out my photos :)
All in all, this was one of the most memorable and delicious meals that I won't soon forget. Thank you Skadi!
