Pacific Northwest Welcomes New Nature-Focused Hotels - AFAR

"Set on a 175-acre retreat along the Columbia River and operating since 1993, the property has expanded into elevated, luxurious glamping: treehouses were added in 2015 and 472-square-foot canvas glamping tents debuted in summer 2024. Each tent—built on an elevated wooden frame—features a king bed, gas fireplace, indoor and outdoor seating, a coffee maker and board games, plus an adjoining bathroom tent whose front wall can open for an outdoor shower or soaking tub with views of the Douglas fir forest. Guests also have access to extensive amenities including hot tubs, an indoor pool, fitness center, spa, golf course, two on-site restaurants, and an adventure park with seven zip lines, three sky bridges, and axe throwing. Glamping tents are available April through October starting at about $499 per night." - Bailey Berg

What a wonderful and romantic experience. Our room was very clean - something my wife appreciates in particular and says it is unusual to get deep, "true" cleaning like that in most hotel experiences. The fourth floor view of the river and gorge was spectacular. We wish the room's windows were larger to allow more view. The map of the various trails around the lodge are helpful and we enjoyed a good hike on the one marked "challenging", although it seemed like an overstatement given that although it was a bit hilly and steep in a couple of spots, at .9 miles it wasn't all that difficult. Our dinner in the Cascade Room was delicious and our server was pleasant and effective. The dinning room was so popular in the morning for breakfast that we had a 45 minute wait, but had the option of ordering to go or room service. We met several other couples who were also there for their anniversaries and we understand why it is such a popular spot for that type of occasion. Thank you for a great stay!

We really enjoyed our stay in 2019, so we decided to return. I'm not sure we'll stay again after this last trip. We had a lovely room with an incredible view. However, starting around 8:00 p.m., we heard what sounded like jackhammering in the wall near our bed. We were hoping it would go away, but four hours later when the sound had woken us up again and again, we asked for a new room. We moved rooms at midnight (to a smaller room with no view that had hair on the shower wall and personal items left behind). The next morning we checked with the front desk to make sure they would charge us for our current room, which was a lot less expensive. At first they were trying to only take off the resort fee and offered us a free dessert to make up for the move. All nice (appropriate) gestures but not adequate. We had to really spell it out that we needed our reservation revised to reflect the new room. That finally stuck, but no other gestures were offered. The following morning as we walked to the elevator my husband stepped in dog poo. Someone had let their dog poo (a lot) in the hall in front of the elevator! When we notified the front desk, they first suggested my husband use the grass to clean his shoe. They seemed put out. (I know it's gross, but help us out here.) We finally convinced them to get us some cleaning supplies and a towel. My husband cleaned dog poo out of his shoe for a good 5 minutes outside the lodge. Not a great way to start the day. While these situations were unforseen and certainly not the fault of the lodge, the response was less than ideal. Why not buy us dinner or at the very least not charge us for parking? Stuff happens, but if you want people to come back, I would expect better customer service.

Google
I made reservations 7 months in advance and was promised 2 adjoining river view rooms for 3 nights. I confirmed by calling 2 weeks before our stay and was again confirmed 2 specific river view rooms on the 4th floor. The day before our departure I received a call from Paula that the rooms are not available. I called and talked to the manager, April and she “graciously” gave us 2 rooms on the 3rd floor connecting, pretending she upgraded us, when in fact we were downgraded. We paid almost $3600 for 2 rooms for 3 nights! No apology, no compensation! Ridiculous for the quality of rooms, which are nothing special (except the view), very basic room for almost $600/a night. Making up your room requires a special request, the bathroom could use updating, a make-up mirror and a working fan. |The grounds surrounding the lodge are beautiful, including a lovely mini-golf course, golf course, hot tub and pool. But remember everything is an extra charge, including parking! Too bad the lodge is owned by a large corporation, who does not pride itself on customer service, happy employees and care. |Recommendation: Stevenson and Cascade Locks have some very good restaurants with friendly staff for breakfast and dinner.

Google
great place to hold an offsite meeting! Beautiful scenery, good conference facilities, the rooms were fine. The outside area, with deck chairs and fire pits and a bit lawn, were a great place to hang out during the evenings. My only complaint was the catered food - it was very heavy and repetitive. Some lighter options would be great!

Google
Great location and great stay. The walking trails and outdoor activities are highlights. The spacious rooms for families are very accommodating. The only thing we found confusing was the website lists a grab n go food option but that wasn’t actually available during our stay.

I've photographed a number of weddings here over the years, and it's one of my favorite Gorge wedding venues to work at! The events staff are wonderful - friendly, helpful, SUPER on top of it. Everything runs like a well-oiled machine! And of course, the location itself is gorgeous. The views of the gorge from the back lawn are incredible, and the sunsets here are stunning. The trail system is a wonderful bonus too. There are so many spots where you can feel like you're deep in the forest, while not wandering too far. Having access to both indoor and outdoor spaces is fantastic, especially here in the PNW where rain can strike during any season. Oh, and the catering is phenomenal too! I've never had a meal at Skamania Lodge that I didn't absolutely love. All in all, this place is perfect for any size wedding and for folks who want to have a celebration that's surrounded by nature, but still have easy access to all the amenities you could ever need. It's an ideal "weekend getaway" type venue that makes things easy, fun, and memorable for couples and their guests.

My wife and I are here for our friends' wedding. It's a great and peaceful location, it's our first time here and it's lovely. We had dinner reservations last night, and the food was fantastic, and the service was even better. Such a beautiful view from the restaurant. The rooms are really nice and comfy. They have a nice little shop with gifts and souvenirs. You can purchase s'mores kits and sit out by the fire pits. It's a great family oriented place. They have an indoor swimming pool and spa. They have activities for the kids in the main courtyard. If you've never been to Vancouver washington, you gotta check this place out. They have zip lines and tree houses. Overall, it's a great getaway.

Google
This is one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve been to- the landscape is insane and the view of the river from the lawn is stunning- I could sit out there all day! We went during a particularly hot week and the a/c definitely left a lot to be desired but the team worked hard to get it functioning better and I was lucky enough to get it working great by the end of the trip! I wish there were more water bottle filling stations but overall one of my favorite places to stay!

Yelp
I really love coming here both in winter and summer. I usually come here for work events and the staff and amenities are wonderful. The Rooms are very cozy and definitely a lodge feel. The beds and sheets are so soft and each room comes with a robe. There are mini fridges and coffee machines in all rooms. If you want a microwave, you can request it and have it sent to your room. There's plenty to do here for the whole family! Scavenger hunts for the lodge are located in the lobby as well as bored games for rent. My favorite part of the hotel is the main lounge area that has a big view window of the gorge. Also the pool and hot tub areas are so amazing. I can't wait until they finish the upgrades this spring 2025. Shoutout to the front desk staff for always being friendly and welcoming! Can't wait until my next trip!

Yelp
If an expensive, thin-walled resort full of screaming children in a beautiful setting is what you're looking for, this is the place for you. It's easy/fast to get to from the Portland/Vancouver metro area, the food at Rock Creek Grill was good (albeit slow), the service providers in the spa were great, it make a great jumping off point for more adventures (like a visit to the Cascade Locks, hiking trails, or the towns of Stevenson, Carson, White Salmon, Bingen, or even Hood River on the OR side), but the real location are the views. It's beautiful up there. Some of the rooms have incredible views of the river, but even if you're not in one of this there are still plenty of spots to take it all in. Unfortunately it's also overpriced, long in the tooth, and rampant with children. The spa? It's next to the pool so that massage comes with an all-you-can-eat side of shrieks (the front desk staff at the spa needs some help too, but that's for another time). The restaurant? Watch out for flying frisbees and soccer balls from the playfield, and dogs that have never been socialized. Those rooms with the nice views? Pray your next door neighbor doesn't want their TV above a quiet whisper... you'll hear /everything/. It's fine. It's be better if parents who don't want to manage their children went to Great Wolf Lodge instead. 'Expensive' is subjective, but we didn't see the value. We might come back for a burger or pizza, but probably won't stay again.

Yelp
This is our third time staying here for anniversary in the past 41 years. The accommodations are excellent; beds are comfortable. Food is amazing and service staff is very kind, all the way from the restaurants to the spa. I highly recommend this amazing place in the gorge that has fantastic views of both Oren and Washington!

Yelp
Came here for a relaxing birthday getaway for my husband. Ordered a bday gift package that was waiting in our room upon arrival, very cute. River view room on top floor at the end had a Lovely view with clean windows. Bed was pretty comfortable, & Showerhead was wonderful. Skylight in bedroom where we saw some stars was nice. The train noise throughout the night Stunk though. Room overall wasn't bad, though a few updates are needed. The lobby chairs need some refurbishing. Nice lobby fireplace. Gift shop cute but a little overpriced. Community lobby coffee, tea, cocoa station is nice & convenient. River Rock lounge was pretty good, not great. Good service. Cascade Room for breakfast Buffet not bad, $20 (though I miss the FULL buffet). Perhaps should have a few more items though, like rolls & biscuits, & maybe cereals besides oatmeal. All Staff was Great at the lodge EXtra Shout-Outs to HUNTER (Front Desk- very friendly & helpful); PAULA S (over the phone Customer Service- very helpful when I called a second time w/reservation question); ERIC C (our Server at Cascade Room for breakfast buffet- very nice & efficient); BRANDON (Front lobby door service- super cool). Thanks to all of you. Would like to try the glamping & treehouses, but honestly, the reviews aren't super so I'm doubting it. But overall (this is 2nd time we've stayed here) Skamania Lodge is very Nice, but could use some improvements to make it really great.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning views! My friends hosted their wedding at the Skamania Lodge. We traveled from a different state so we decided to spend our weekend here. There's plenty to do: swimming in their indoor pool, golfing, nice walking trails, plus they also have a wonderful restaurant. We chose to stay in one of their rooms with a river view and a fireplace, and we loved it! Waking up to the breathtaking gorge was such a treat. The rooms are spacious and the bed is a king size. I'd say the only two complaints were: the walls, they are so thin you can hear your next door neighbor--ours was a baby crying at 6am, and the sliding bathroom doors that seem to be broken or hard to open and close.

Yelp
I went during the off season when prices are a bit cheaper and because of that pricing I was able to get one of the treehouse rooms. I added on the "birthday basket" for the room and it was actually a lot better than I was expecting. Pretty sure the staff threw in some s'more kits, some chocolates, and a campfire game because I don't think it was included in the birthday basket description. It felt really special that they went above and beyond for us. Because it was the slow season, we had an entire firepit to ourselves at the tree houses which was magical. We stayed up really late and didn't have to worry about being too loud because nobody else was staying in the tree houses. The room was awesome. Loved having the fireplace in the room and the water boiler so we could make some hot chocolate. The hot tub is nice and keep in mind that both the men's and women's changing rooms have a sauna in them and their own hot tubs. We dined at the restaurant. Not sure of the name but it was the pricier one. The food was good and the view was great. Sitting by the windows with a view of the gorge is something else! My wife and I mused that our server was the perfect amount of available. Was checking in that we were taken care of but didn't ever feel like he was hovering. Really top notch service by the front and back of house. The zip lining was more fun than I anticipated. I thought it'd be fun but like... As fun as a 40 year old could have with a bunch of 12 year olds fun. But we both had a blast. We didn't do other activities but look forward to doing them on a future visit. Honestly, I'm not sure why families would bring kids here for more than 1 day. I think kids might get kinda bored here but we sure as heck enjoyed relaxing and unwinding!

Yelp
Gorgeous glamping setup but OMG the trains are no joke. We got zero sleep. They are blasting their horns about every hour and it sounds like they are immediately outside your room. The website does recommend ear plugs, but that is not enough. And then you miss out of hearing nature / natural White noise. $800/night is insane considering the trains are right there. I am so excited to try glamping again, but do not recommend this location.

Yelp
Beautiful place with a beautiful view. Friendly staff and a very relaxing hot tub outside. Rooms could use a fresh coat of paint and the sliding door for the bathroom was very noisy. Our bathroom faucet fixtures were not installed properly and we're hard to turn and we're very noisy. Walls are paper thin so our next door neighbor was very easy to hear. Thank God they didn't stay up all night. Unless we got the short stick, the pictures of the river view rooms are false advertisement and the river is not that close to the lodge. They offer you water bottles in the room... for $7.00. It truly is a beautiful place with awesome trails and activities. I just don't think I would pay the extra for a river view room in the future.

Yelp
Okay, let's talk about Skamania Lodge. As a dog-loving couple, we were excited to stay at this supposedly pet-friendly hotel. And while the location is fantastic, with plenty of dog-friendly activities nearby, the lodge itself left us feeling a bit underwhelmed. First off, the "dog-friendly" amenities were pretty lackluster. Sure, you can eat in the lobby with your furry friend, but be prepared to order from a limited menu and receive your food in takeout containers. Not exactly the kind of dining experience we were hoping for on our weekend getaway (there is no room service, either). There is a snack stand near the golf shop called "Backyard Grill" that is advertised on the website as being dog friendly but it was closed. Upon seeing it closer, I would not consider this a real dining option for vacationers who are seeking a true "dog-friendly" restaurant as it's more of a snack stand and not a restaurant. The room itself was nothing to write home about either. The TV and entertainment system were straight out of the 90s, and don't even get me started on the bathroom. A multi-dispenser for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash? Come on, Skamania, you can do better than that. And if you're a light sleeper, good luck - the soundproofing is practically non-existent. Our poor dogs were on high alert every time someone so much as wheeled a luggage cart down the hallway. Pro tip: If you're checking in with dogs, you'll be allocated a "dog room" that will not have a view and is in a noisy wing of the building. Luckily, we brought a mini speaker with us and discovered that playing white noise throughout the night did the trick to drown out the sounds of kids/people shuffling in the halls and barking dogs. Trust me, it's a lifesaver! But it wasn't all bad. The spa was a real highlight, and I highly recommend treating yourself to a massage. The lodge grounds are also stunning and perfect for a scenic dog walk. And if you're a golfer, you'll enjoy the challenging course - just watch out for those pesky water hazards! One thing to keep in mind: if you're looking for a romantic, adult-oriented getaway, Skamania might not be the best choice. The lodge seems to cater more to families, with kid-friendly activities like pool parties and Easter egg hunts. As a couple without kids (or "dinks," as we like to call ourselves), we found ourselves craving a more grown-up, relaxing atmosphere. Another downside? The restaurants at Skamania aren't dog-friendly, so we found ourselves venturing out for most of our meals. While there are plenty of great options in the area, it would've been nice to have more choices at the lodge itself. At the end of the day, Skamania Lodge is a decent option if you're looking for a dog-friendly hotel in a beautiful location. Just don't expect too much in terms of amenities or a sophisticated, adult-oriented vibe. We might not rush back to stay at the lodge itself, but we'll definitely be returning to explore more of this gorgeous area with our four-legged friends in tow.

Yelp
My review is for the wedding venue ONLY as a guest. I did not stay at the lodge for hotel. Absolutely gorgeous views! The wedding was set up very nicely. Ceremony was outside at the amphitheater. Reception was at the pavilion. It was a cold rainy week in Stevenson but the hotel was able to try to make the guests warm and comfortable. The ceremony was quick and easy. White chairs were set up perfectly. Fire pits and overhead heaters in the pavilion. We had dinner served in pavilion. The welcome party prior to wedding was nice. It was held in the conference room area in a downstairs spot. Lots of room to meet and greet. Small side room for games and little kids to play.

Yelp
Jacob is the best server in Washington. From giving us the best fry recommendation's, to whipping us up the best cocktails in town, to telling us all the local secrets, this guy right here is THE DUDE. Also please bring in Don Julio and Ketel One espresso martini machine.

Yelp
Wedding time and free food! Came here for as I mentioned a wedding... The food was great. I think it was provided by in-house catering and the staff was really accommodating and helpful and I really enjoyed the surrounding area as there's so much nature as there should be given the area where we are. there's trails and golfing and disc golf and just so much to do that. You're really gonna enjoy your time here. I'm thinking of coming here for an anniversary or something as it would be a great place for a getaway when you want to escape the city.

Yelp
Dining Room a Little Off Their Game. I've been coming to Skamania lodge for the past three years. I love the atmosphere, definitely the view, the friendly staff, and up until recently, I have enjoyed dining here. I recently brought my family here to enjoy the ambience and have a great lunch at the Cascade Dining Room, which I have eaten at many times over the past years. One of my favorite things there up until recently has been the fish and chips. But this time, the fish was both soggy and a little greasy. I noticed that they served the fish on a garnish of some type of greens. But having been a cook myself, when you put a hot crispy item on greens, the greens start to sweat, making the item soggy. I told our waitress, who informed her manager, who kindly took my meal off our bill, but I had also asked her to let the chef know, my feedback, which I don't think they ultimately ended up doing. I think they've changed chefs, as my friends chowder was also not very flavorful, or up to standards, as well as the burger, which is usually very good, was just OK this time. I hope they improve upon their menu items, as I enjoy coming here for the great view and atmosphere.

Yelp
I remember this place very well. It's one of my favorite places to stay in the Columbia Gorge. You have access to Hood River for windsurfing and great beer . The running and hiking opportunities are excellent in this area. What makes this place unique is the addition of tree houses - yes, real houses in the trees. However, I still prefer waking up to views of the Gorge. The service was excellent, although they were understaffed. The outdoor waterfall hot tub was a great way to relax after hikes and surfing. I would highly recommend it as a great getaway and place to relax.

Yelp
Had dinner here with my family after my engagement and we were all impressed by the exceptional service that was provided by Jolene! She added to the excitement and fun and I highly recommend asking for her when you have dinner here !

Yelp
Had an amazing dining and lodging experience! Jolene was our server in the restaurant and I would go back just for her. Food was amazing. Fire pit looking at the gorge was beautiful. Rooms are very cozy. Can't wait to come back to stay in the tree houses!!

Yelp
We were over in Oregon and decided to jump in to get some food. There was a small wait which was excepted cause we weren't staying at the hotel and didn't have reservations but the food was really good with friendly service!

Yelp
we always have a great time coming to skamania. Great food, fun, people. We had a misunderstanding on a food wine event but that was quickly resolved by skamanias exceptional management team. Skamania remains one of our favorite weekend getaways and we cant wait to come back! thank you skamania!

Yelp
Just returned from a corporate meeting here and I'm struggling with the love/hate experience. Pros: -the outside grounds and views- the outdoor patio, fire pit, Adirondack chairs are picturesque - activities galore- golf, zip lining, axe throwing, adventuring, fitness/spa - renovated guest rooms, all with beautiful views Cons - my room was not ready until 8pm. That is a long time to wait for a room . - the biggest reason for this rating was the uncleanliness - discovered I had a used towel hanging on my towel bar and there was hair in my shower drain. When I told the front desk about the towel and asked for a fresh set, they said " I'll let housekeeping know." No apology, no ownership. I ended up having to chase down housekeeping after 5 hours and grab my own set of towels. - this is clearly one of those surface clean places. Looks clean if you don't look closely. As I was eating breakfast, they took two "unused" waters from my table and moved them to another table. Weird. Overall , this place was inconsistent. The lack of cleanliness spoiled it for me. For a destination resort, I was surprised to experience the gross towel situation and disappointing customer service issues. No need to rush here.

Jasmine D.

Yelp
Staff was hands down amazing and supported us even when we had issues loved the lodge. April was excellent support. Food was great and amenities plentiful. Only grip the walls / doors are super thin didn't get any sleep, could hear a man snoring next door and heard from many other guests we were with they felt like people were in their rooms talking late night that's how thin the walls were. Beautiful settings and well maintained

Danielle M.

Yelp
They were very attentive, we went for our anniversary and they made it very special. Great views, great food, and amazing food accommodations. Super pleased with this place and all it has to offer.

Yelp
Attended a wedding here in August. Stayed for 4 days with our dog. Review of hotel: This is a fantastic dog-friendly resort! I was hesitant to book here because of the previous reviews about delayed check-ins and cleanliness (lack thereof). However, I was delighted to find that my room was ready as soon as I arrived... and even very clean. The only thing I didn't like about the room was that the bathroom didn't have a fan. Otherwise, it was spacious and clean and worth the money. Bed was comfy too. Additionally, they provided a welcome doggy gift bag with many supplies, and they put us in the room nearest the stairs so our dog could get outside quickly for potty time. He was very happy and comfortable there! Every staff member we saw was kind, helpful, and polite. They were constantly cleaning the common areas and rushed to hold doors open for us. Also, the grounds are beautiful. Dogs aren't allowed in the restaurants, but we ordered our food to-go and enjoyed meals with a beautiful view of the mountains from the Adirondack chairs in the common area. Absolutely gorgeous. The gift shop is really fun and has all the things that you might have forgotten. They even have CBD sleep aids, blankets for stargazing, s'mores kits to use at the outdoor fire pit, and cute jewelry. The gals working at the store were very nice! I also visited the pool store because I forgot my swimsuit; the gal down there was helpful too. Review of wedding venue: The ceremony and reception areas are very picturesque. The passed hors d'oeuvres, dinner buffet, and late-night hot food were delicious. With the permission of the bride, groom, and venue staff, we brought our small dog to the ceremony and reception. We all had a really great time! There was some confusion about the bar hours during the reception, which I complained about in my post-stay survey. I promptly received a call from the Director of Food and Beverage, who genuinely wanted to understand what happened and was sincerely apologetic. He has since spoken to the bride and groom and made the situation right. Even though things didn't go perfectly, that's still 5-star customer service. I'm very happy with my experience at Skamania Lodge. And I look forward to planning our return trip.

Yelp
Have to say our experience was less than average. We were guests in a treehouse accommodation which was close to $1,000 a night. For that price we expected that the room and service would be better. The room was a bit run down, needed painting, grout work and an updated bathroom. Room also had dust and visible spider webs at ceilings. The service was good at first (in fact the text before arrival was great asking if and when we wanted turndown service), but when we got it, the only thing that was done was to close the window coverings (bed was left messy not turned down). There were 2 bottles of water in the fridge, but the bellman warned us that they were $7 a piece (yikes, we have expected - for the price we were paying - they would have been included). We've stayed at nicer Holiday Inns.
google avatar

Lina S.

Yelp
This is my second time coming here, first time was before the remodel. And I'm SO glad they remodeled it was getting really gross. The price did go up, but at least you can see where the money went. They changed their pools to salt and mineral water. So that's nice, cause the first trip we took out there the water had so much bleach my black bathing suit was no longer black. Only downside is the pool hours, wish they would extend them to at least 11. Seems ridiculous to go to bed at 10pm when you're on vacation. Also if you want to have breakfast there I would make a reservation ahead of time.

Yelp
Beautiful views. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were warm and friendly. The room experience was lacking considering the $$$ rate.

Yelp
I will say this place has breathtaking views. My experience at the spa was not that great. The actual treatment was ok. But this spa shares entrance with the pool and guest at the pool also have access to spa locker rooms. The sounds of kids screaming, yelling, crying and running back and forth in the locker room/bathroom areas was a bit much at times. Especially hearing all of it while in the spa treatment session. It wasn't a relaxing experience. It's a beautiful place to come with your family, I wouldn't recommend if coming for some quiet time.

Yelp
My family of 4 stayed at the overpriced glamping tents for a conference. Beautiful scenery but very off-putting service staff. NOT family friendly and will not stay here again.

Yelp
When we arrived, it was very crowded. We had to circle around the parking lot a few times to get a space at the front of the lodge to unload the car. Also we had to wait at least 10 minutes to get checked in. There were only two front staff working at that time. The setting of Skamania Lodge is gorgeous. From the lodge's common area and the expansive lawn area (the backside of the lodge) you could see the Columbia River Gorge. There are outdoor lounge chairs facing the river so you could enjoy the view at any time of the day. Plus there are trails on the property for your use. We had booked a forest view room. The room was spacious. There is a small alcove area before the bathroom where the closet and the refrigerator, single serve coffee/tea maker, and coffee/tea making supplies are. My one complaint is the room does not receive a lot of natural light. Looking out our window we could see the other part of the building and the forest. I feel if the building weren't there, there would be more natural light. There are two hot tubs. One indoor and one outdoor. Both are generously sized. We always went to the outdoor one because of the pretty setting. A bonus of the outdoor hot tub is it's 21 and over after 6pm. However, on one night there were 4-5 teenagers using the outdoor hot tub. Luckily they weren't being overly loud. While staying there, there was a big party celebrating someone's 50th birthday party. They had rented the outdoor pavilion, which is a great venue not only for a birthday part but for other memorable occasions. We would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
What an amazing fun place to spend a weekend! So much to do! Axe throwing. Aerial obstacle course. Zip lining. Hiking. Golf. The views are incredible. I've stayed three times now and have loved it every time. The rooms are a rustic mountain feel, the spa is spot on - massages are great! The wine in the bar is delicious. A must see!

Yelp
We've been going to Skamania Lodge since it opened sometime in the early '90s. It's about 45 minutes from our home, but might as well be in another land, as it's deep into the Columbia River Gorge. Before I retired, I went to several business meetings there and as a family and a couple as well. The staff is unfailingly helpful and the experience is great every time.

Yelp
Great place to escape the common hotel. Rooms are comfortable and up to date. There is plenty of parking but it's a little walk to the lodge. Lots to do; hiking, golf, mini-golf, etc. See their website for current events and options. The is a great area behind the office to sit and relax all day long. The pool, hot tubs, and sauna were clean and well maintained. We didn't eat here because of the reviews. The staff has been very nice and accommodating. It's a great place to relax and unwind.

Yelp
My company holds an all-staff offsite at Skamania every year. After a 3-year hiatus due to COVID, we were finally able to return in 2022. Skamania Lodge is stunning - the interior lives up the lodge feel with large fireplaces, exposed woodwork and an overall rustic feel. The hotel has nearly everything you need for a nice getaway - an adventure office for ziplining and aerial park, beautiful views, several onsite dining options, fire pits, pool, hot tub, spa and so on. If you decide to leave the property, you will find many great shops in the area. And speaking of shops, their giftshop was fantastic - stocked from floor to ceiling with many local gifts. I somehow got very lucky and was assigned one of their executive suites so I really enjoyed the extra space. The lodge is well-acquainted for a vacation or business function.

Yelp
I am torn between 2 & 3 stars, so let's say 2.5. Let me first say, if you're here in the summer for their zip line, golf, etc. I'm sure this is a great spot. But for our spontaneous visit in March with two kids..a bit of a let down. Of course the site is beautiful, so that was a big draw here. However, you're really tucked away from it all up there and are left with whatever this property offers, which we unfortunately found was not much. There just seemed to be absolutely nothing happening here besides people walking around outside, eating & drinking, & sitting in the lobby (or sleeping). Seriously..the same people seemed to just claim a spot in the lobby's "living room" and they were in that same spot all day. Relaxing? Maybe. Fun? No. I was shocked to see how many families with kids were here like us, and knowing how bored our kids were I couldn't figure out how everyone chose this place. There's a pool which is "fun" once..and being outside on grass is "fun" once, maybe twice because we brought balls. This "resort" doesn't offer any resort amenities that we paid a $35 fee for. No refreshments anywhere, no activities happening, music, even lawn games outside, etc. And for us the rhythm of the entire weekend was OFF. We had to wait until 2pm for the lunch spot to open (ok at best food), then wait for 6:30 dinner reservations (again, okay), and then the next morning waited for the outdoor firepit to turn on at 11 for our kids to make s'mores....which never happened. That was the cherry on top & I needed to get out of here & head home. The room: awful, awful springy FULL size beds. I can't believe I thought I could handle that, it was my mistake booking the room..but it's all they offer. No queens...and the king rooms have no pull out for kids..again, how are all these other families staying here?! We spent lots of money for our overnight trip here & it was not at all up to the expectations I had.

Yelp
This was my first visit at Skamania Lodge. The building and interior was cute but not lush. Our room had a great view of the river but we have several issues with our key cards. They were very accommodating and tried their best to resolve the issue. The grounds have very beautiful walking paths with great views. With golf, the hot tub, walking paths, and s'mores -- you won't be bored for a weekend getaway. Although they were short staffed, the service and food were amazing. Major kudos to the chef here, I would say the best food in town.

Yelp
I was beyond disappointed, staying in. The treehouse is at Skamania Lodge. Do not be fooled into spending extra money for one of these! I was lord, and with the promise of beautiful woodsy use, and was greeted with a construction zone that is far from peaceful! They had warned me with an email that there was going to be "some Landscaping"going on, but this is a lot worse than just a little landscaping. Orange construction fencing all over, construction vehicles right out front of our "treehouse," gravel roads for the construction vehicles to go on, dirt piles everywhere. It is a mess! Don't even get me started on what you have to go through to get your stuff down to the tree houses! Giving us free breakfast and paying for our round of mini golf does not come close to making up for how awful this was. To make matters worse, our fire alarm went off inexplicably repeatedly in the middle of the night. When I called the front desk to tell them that the fire alarm wouldn't stop going off, the guy said, "I don't really know what to tell you. Our engineering staff is home for the night." Oh, and upon check-in, we were told that the pool and hot tub were closed all day both of the days we were here. The view from the lodge was pretty, though. I will not be back.

Yelp
We rented a cabin over Labor Day weekend and had a great time. Other than, the sound of the train, it was quiet. We enjoyed the cabin. We took a zip line and it was very fun. The staff was very responsive and helpful.

Yelp
Beautiful spot. I mean it's the gorge! But. It's overpriced. Clean rooms, fairly quick room service. Portions okay, again - overpriced. You pay resort fees (not unusual) they add 18% gratuity when you do room service and then you're asked to tip on top of that. Really. It's a bit much to drop $80 for a salad, some veggies and a few ciders. Some decent trails right on site, good views. It's not something I'd pay for twice.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time at Skamania Lodge. Whether you are hiking one of the three trails onsite, sitting in a big circle around one of the fire pits, relaxing in an andiron-deck chair with a mint mojito or a strong, local IPA this is the height of R&R. And don't forget the outdoor hot tub (21& over after 5pm) or the in-house spa for a scheduled massage, or just swimming in the warm indoor pool. If you would like a special activity, schedule a 2.5 hour treetop zip line for around $100 and zip over the property. There is much to do that I did not mention for the sake of brevity, but feel free to explore knowing that in the early summer, this was the place to be to get away from the hustle and bustle of Portland for a weekend getaway.

Yelp
I did a solo trip to get some studying done. After finishing I was tired, hungry and needing coffee for the long drive home. I also was feeling sad I was at such a beautiful place alone. I don't drink but went to the bar as it was all that was left open. I ordered coffee and ice cream anticipating awkward quick consumption at the bar. Kris and Jacob and another female bartender had another idea-- how about we chat it up and treat you like you're one of us? I was floored by how such a simple act of connection turned my night around. It made me feel loved and human. These guys make the place special because of who they are.

Yelp
Beautiful location, but the hotel was simply OK. Had very overpriced food in the restaurant, and the handle on our skylight blinds was completely broken. They said they'd send someone to fix it, but never actually did. The beds were tucked under very low ceilings, and I hit my head on the ceiling a few times. The staff was kind and attentive. I'd say that there's definitely some things to work on, which dampened the experience a bit.

Yelp
They act like a 5 star resort but they are 3.5 at best. IF you want a romantic weekend away with your partner don't bother going here - they are trying to make it a couples retreat but also allow a ton of families with small children here. I felt like I was on a Disney cruise. Also, the rooms are not well sound proofed, they don't give you any water bottles in the room (they have a 16 ounce bottle you can buy for $7) and they charge an average of $320 a night for a standard room. Not worth the money - this place is on the verge of ghetto

Yelp
Man, what a disappointment. I used to plan events and we held annual golf tournaments here, so I had fond memories. My girlfriends I came with also had fond memories of the resort. First, we tried checking in early and were told they didn't have a clean room ready and they couldn't guarantee a 4pm check in. No big deal, front desk was nice enough. We stepped out back to sit and enjoy the views and drank champagne. Lots of children, I made a comment that it felt Great Wolf Lodge. I am a mom and I am ok with family and children but it was overwhelming. We finally got our room and went down to the bar. We bellied up and came second to the incredibly long line of people coming from outside. The place is clearly understaffed and there is no organization. Children in the bar area. The bartenders are overworked to the point of not allowing room for customer service. One of the male bartenders was snippy and a bit of jerk. We snagged a table to eat dinner and the menu was off. It's a guessing game on what you're even reading and there isn't a "something for everyone" feel to it. Our server, Taylor was a sweetie and made up for the crappy service at the bar. Everything is overpriced, down to the $7 bottle or water in the room. The next morning the coffee carafes in the lobby were empty and no employees in sight to replenish. My 2 star review is based on the over population of people and children were it's not a relaxing place at all. If I'm spending $330 on a room night, I expect impeccable service, options for all tastes and styles. Quiet retreats. Maybe an adult only pool or swim time.

Yelp
Wow! This was a five star experience from start to finish. If you stay here at the lodge - do yourself a favor and stay in the Gorge Suites. I have never enjoyed such a beautiful view from a hotel room before. I am still blown away. It was like a perfectly sculpted back drop. The lodge is beautiful - from head to toe. Clean, tastefully decorated, and warm. The Staff here was 5 star from start to finish. Even with Covid, we ordered drinks at the bar and food to have in our suite. It was perfect! The Staff even left us a personalized Anniversary gift on our door. So thoughtful. We also did the Zip Line course - so much fun! Great tour! Can't wait to stay here again! Thank you for a perfect day!

Yelp
Updated review!: After our last visit together, my wife and I decided that Skamania Lodge would be an awesome place to spend our one year anniversary. We booked a room, and a couple activities (zip lining and axe throwing), and looked forward to an adventure-filled weekend together. When it finally arrived, we were ready! This place has a lot going for it, but as is often the case with destination or resort hotels, it's going to cost you a bit. We knew this going into it, but for the sake of clarity, it may be useful to know what you're getting into. Our fireplace-equipped room on the second floor for one night was around $230 with taxes, and tacking on the cost of zip lining and axe throwing for two people (~$220 and ~$90, respectively) brought it to nearly $500 for the weekend, without including meals. If that's within your budget, you're in for a good time! We arrived around 3pm on Sunday night, and checked in quickly. The front desk staff was friendly and informative, and helped answer our questions concerning where to go for various events and hotel features. Our zipline event was at 4pm, so we dropped off our luggage, freshened up, and headed over to the conference center to meet up with our guides. For more information on the zip lining, see my review here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/skamania-lodge-zip-line-tour-stevenson After zip-lining, we had made dinner reservations at a different restaurant (the one where we first met!), so we left the hotel and didn't return until much later. The pool, hot tubs and spa were closed by then, so we were unable to partake in using its facilities. Maybe next time. Our bed was comfy and spacious, although we spent the night several hours sitting on the floor in front of the fireplace, talking and watching TV, before we retired. The next day, we woke up late to the sound of hammering and pounding outside our window. Turns out that the entire hotel is undergoing renovations during business hours, Monday thru Friday, which was mentioned on a flyer on the desk in our room, but we had not seen it, so it was a bit of a surprise to see a construction worker in a crane hovering outside our window. I feel the front desk staff should have mentioned this, since our overnight stay was Sun-Mon. We'd ordered room service from the in-house catering service, Green Apron (https://www.yelp.com/biz/green-apron-stevenson), which was really great, and priced reasonably, in our opinion, but the obnoxious construction noises detracted somewhat from our otherwise peaceful morning. We'd booked an axe throwing class for later in the day, so we went for a walk through the grounds on various trails, down to the river, had a Bloody Mary at the River Rock restaurant (too much horseradish for my taste!), and then headed to our class. I should mention that when I tried to book the axe throwing class, I'd found that all of the timeslots were full for our weekend, but a call to the front desk got us transferred to the instructor, Shayne, who stayed behind and taught a private class for just the two of us! **Big props to Shayne** for being thoughtful, knowledgeable and fun to hang out with. Additional review details of the axe throwing class can be found here (https://www.yelp.com/biz/skamania-lodge-zip-line-tour-stevenson). Overall, we had a wonderful time here at Skamania Lodge, and we will definitely return in the future. There are a few nitpicky things mentioned above that could be addressed (better hours for the pool/hot tubs, communication about the construction, cocktails are overpriced for the size, too much horseradish in the Bloody Mary, etc), as well as a few other minor concerns (i.e. the bath/shower water, when dialed all the way up, is so hot as to be *actually dangerous*), but most don't merit a mention. Skamania Lodge is an excellent choice for adventure-seekers, nature lovers, couples in search of a romantic getaway, and families looking for an escape from the drudgery of city or suburban life. With as much going on here, there really is something for everyone. Just be sure to bring your wallet and credit cards. You're gonna need 'em!
