We’ve had a great time at 209 Skate Time in the past—it’s a fun place we’ve enjoyed a few times with family and friends. My son really wanted to go skating this weekend, so we came by on Saturday evening. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize it was adults-only skate time, which means they don’t put out the skate assist bars for kids. That wasn’t mentioned when we entered, and I didn’t see any signs noting this policy.
We purchased admission and rentals, and only after putting on our skates did we learn from the very kind woman at the rental desk that the assist bars aren’t available during adult hours. Totally understandable—so we returned the skates (unused) and told the front desk we’d come back the next day instead.
That’s where we ran into an issue. Even though we were only inside for about 5 minutes and didn’t use the facility, we were told we’d have to pay admission again to come back Sunday. The staff did give us a voucher for our rentals after asking a couple times, but they wouldn’t allow us to reuse our admission or come back the next day without paying again. I also asked to speak to a manager or owner but was told no one was available or reachable.
As a business owner myself, this policy seems a bit rigid—especially when no services were used, and the reason for leaving was simply a misunderstanding about availability of equipment for kids.
We still love the place and will likely return, but I hope the management might consider offering more flexibility or clearer communication around policies like this. A small gesture of understanding here would have gone a long way.
