The 18 Best Restaurants in Helsinki | Eater

"In recent years, local mini-chain Skiffer has become the city’s go-to pizza spot, known for its staple thin and crispy pie, liuska. Skiffer Liuskaluoto is located on a small island just a two-minute ferry ride from Merisatama pier near the Kaivopuisto park and is ideal for a leisurely summer lunch outdoors. In inclement weather — or just the long winter — head to Skiffer Erottaja, a 15-minute walk toward downtown from the Merisatama pier. At any location, try the surf and turf liuska, made with fresh chorizo and local crayfish. [$$]" - Ilkka Sirén

Excellent food. The best atmosphere to spend a hot sunny day in summer. Beautiful views. If you are in Helsinki (summer) with friends, it’s a must-go. Live music DJ and many young people. Also recommended if you’re a grown couple.

Pizza was hot and tasty, although the crust was a bit too crumbly for my liking. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, however, I ordered the Grand Salami to go and they only gave me the toppings in a box, not the actual pizza, which was odd (and didn’t have time to wait for them to cook, correct the error). Location was the real highlight of the restaurant being on the water, perfect to visit with friends on a nice day! Advice: pay €5 onto your food bill to get your water taxi ticket (both ways) covered. It’s €7 otherwise from the taxi driver.

Pizza with “cherry tomatoes” and it arrives half of a cherry tomatoe on your pizza…how would you feel…? Then you ask the waitress if its normal and she barely answer you. Food average, service bad, place nice.

It was a lovely experience, seaside and feeling. Kids loved it too and loved to play around. DJ’s were playing and the mood was chill. Pizzas were exotic which is nice as I think they can’t really beat the Italian pizza in any case. This made their pizzas a thing. We spend good 150€ for food and drinks at Skiffer and it was an anticlimax when we still needed to pay 7€ pp on the way back of a one minute boat ride.

Perfect for a sunny day 💙 I tried the Salami and ‘Surf & Turf’ pizzas and it was delicious. In love with the crispy thin base. My favourite is the ‘Surf & Turf’. It comes with cilantro and chilli slices which went so well with the chorizo and crayfish topping. The salami pizza was a little salty to my taste but rich and fragrant. Will come again to try other choices on the pizza menu.

What a gem of a restaurant! You have to get a little boat over, takes 30 seconds and runs all day. Costs €7 return for adult (only hss restaurant is free boat). Immaculate vibes, loads of outdoor seating to enjoy the sunset. Delicious pizzas and really reasonably priced. Would highly recommend getting a few and sharing. Our fav was the surf & turf but they were all great.

Getting to the restaurant by the small boat that costs 6 euros is not worth it, let alone the price of the food at this establishment. The food is at best mediocre, there is not enough available seating, and the cocktails are extremely bad. If you are planning on visiting the island only for the scenery (which you should), eat before. There are plenty of amazing restaurants on land nearby that are well priced and have delicious food. For example, Restaurant Pontus, Seksico tacos, and Alfons pizza. The pizzarias are especially much better than skiffer. Skiffers "liuska" is a joke (~19€). Lastly I suggest taking the boat that goes to uunisaari instead, you can visit both islands but for 1 euro less.

Yelp
This is definately one of the places you have to visit during summer. Skiffer on Liuskaluoto is originally just a gas station for boats. They expanded their service though and opened a bar. Here you don't just get drinks but can also order pizza or liuska, how they call it. And believe me, their pizza is amazing. One of the best if not even the best in Helsinki. Check out their menu on their website. But even though the food is great the best thing about Skiffer is its location. Liuskaluota is an island next to Uunisaari. During the summer you just get there by boat. A small ferry takes you there for 5 € (return ticket). From the terrace you have a great view over Kaivopuisto and Eira and can watch the boats entering and leaving the harbor. On a warm and sunny summer day it is so nice that you don't even want to leave anymore. And luckily they are open till 22.00 on the weekend. That means that you can stay there till the sun goes down. This place is a must! Enjoy it!

Yelp
This is a fun restaurant at a boat fueling dock. You can only get there by boat which you catch at a small wharf across from the restaurant. The Skiffer specializes in pizzas, and these are super tasty. The crust is light and thin with delicious toppings like strawberries, goat cheese and arugula on one and a traditional margherita with tomatoes, basil and mozzarella on another. It can be a pit chilly as it was on the evening we went, especially when the wind picks up, but they do provide blankets to bundle up in. Overall, it is a fun experience with great food.

Yelp
After a few months of Yelp-silence, I finally visited a place today that inspired me to write a review. Skiffer! The new watering-hole and Pizza haven for the Helsinki It-crowd, I hear. It is a boat ride away on a small island (more of a rock) in front of the Helsinki South harbor. Definitely a weather dependent place, so check the forecast before you head out. I like the concept: Great terrace, good pizza, and a lovely red cottage that serves the refreshments. The view is to the harbor of Helsinki, where one can view sailing boats and people having summer fun by the sea. It has all the ingredients to be charming, which I suspect it was a few years ago, but it just has become way too trendy. About the pizza: We ordered three pizzas to share: Strawberry and goats-cheese, Mozzarella and tomato, and ham and pineapple. The pizzas looked delicious and came quite fast. Perhaps even too fast as one got the feeling that we should eat quickly to make room for the crowd waiting for a table. The crust was nice and thin, crispy but not burned. Especially the strawberry and goats-cheese was excellent, it would have been even better with a bit of sunshine. The two other pizzas were good quality, but lacked any creativity. The mozzarella and tomato had some nice features, like some grilled wild garlic, but it was a bit of a mush. Overall I would say that the food was good and OK for the price (13-16€). What can I say about the drinks, not much as I was not the one ordering, so I did not get a peak at the menu. I did see some nice specialty beers on the tables next to us, so their selection extends beyond a normal archipelago cafes. The service was friendly, but hurried. As mentioned before, one got the feeling that we should be getting our things and going as soon as we were ready with our food and drinks. It did not feel that comfortable just sitting there. There was also a DJ playing some club music and that to me was a bit out of place. It was not too loud though and did not disturb talking or enjoying the environment in any way. I think it is just not my place or it was not my night, so someone else would enjoy it perhaps more. Or I might enjoy it more after a few drinks. Definitely worth visiting and trying out the pizza! Just note that it can be quite full, especially on a sunny day as there are not that many of those in Finland to begin with =).

Yelp
The original Skiffer, love their pizzas or "liuska" as they're called. Grab the ferry over to the island on a sunny day and enjoy the view of Eira and the harbor. It's quite packed when the weather is nice but the vibe is good. Only downside is that you have to pay for the ferry so if you're just going to grab a drink it's a bit costly..

Yelp
Hop on the ferry or take your own boat to this cool terrace for some drinks and pizza during the summer months. The pizzas have interesting and fun combinations, my favorite is the one with strawberries. They've got djs playing until late and a great atmosphere.
