How I heard of this place: Years ago, when Skillet was a simple, yet amazing culinary experience in a food truck. As it grew, the opportunities for brick & mortar settings exploded and the Seattle Center was lucky to have them on board.
Type of cuisine: Burgers, fries. "Skillet Counter makes great food prepared with care, technique, and the best ingredients. The menu offers signature Skillet items like the burger with bacon jam, pork belly and cornmeal waffle, fried chicken sammy. We have a special menu for the kiddos with items like waffle with whipped cream and grilled pb&j. We carry spirits, draft beer, keg wine and sweets to round things out."
Ambiance: Set in The Armory, Skillet Counter is among the dining options available to those visiting the food court slash performance/festival area. The middle of the room is reserved for seating, special events and performances, while the border includes a number of restaurant counter options to satisfy all taste buds.
What I ordered: The Burger ($20) - bacon jam, creamy bleu cheese, arugula, brioche and a side of Poutine ($13) - fries, gravy, cheddar, parm, herbs. We also ordered a Bowl of Tomato Bisque ($9.50) and The Chub ($18.50) - bacon, brie, american cheese, one egg*, arugula, tomato, bacon jam, jalapeño aioli, sodo bun. For our kids, an additional Lil' Grilled Cheese ($9.50) - cheddar, american cheese, brioche, hand-cut fries.
What I loved: The Chub breakfast sandwich become the table favorite, while The Burger - what originally brought us to love Skillet - was found to be a close second.
Why I loved it: The food is always good, portions relatively small but hearty.
Cost: High
