Even after many days, it’s puzzling to me looking at the receipt. We ordered three dishes for two adults and one child for lunch. The restaurant charges $2 for not paying cash and added the 20% gratuity already. The burger was okay; salad was mediocre but did have big shrimps; steak tacos were on the burnt side. Service was okay - came about twice to refill water.

The food here was amazing! The service was quick, friendly, and professional. The atmosphere was fun and trendy. We ordered the chicken fajitas with rice and beans as well as the mole short rib enchiladas with rice and beans. Everything was seasoned perfectly! Our food was hot, fresh and very delicious. I would recommend this spot for a nice family outing or cute date night with a loved one. We will definitely be back here soon! 10 out of 10!

The chips were not fresh, but they were used as merely a vessel for the guac, and the taste of the guac overshadowed the dull chips. Be prepared for a pricey experience, but it should be expected as it's in LIC close to the water. I will try this place again for the food, but most likely, I will just order takeout in the future.

First time here and loved it! The food and drinks were amazing!!! Especially the Passionfruit Margarita. Diana was very kind and helpful. Will be back!

We’ve been living in the neighborhood for almost six months now, and while we don’t come weekly, this is one of those places we keep coming back to about twice a month because it never misses. Skinny’s somehow manages to make you feel like you’re on vacation while still delivering NYC-level great food. The vibe is lively but cozy at the same time, relaxed, welcoming, and full of good energy. It works just as well for a casual weekend meal, a date night, drinks at the bar, or bringing friends along. The food is the real star for us. The queso fondido is an absolute must and something we order every single time, along with their quesadillas. The quality and consistency are always there, and portions feel right to generous. Prices are fair, and it’s a place we genuinely trust to be good every visit. Drinks are fantastic. The Paloma is a go-to, and we recently tried El Dragon and immediately fell in love. Margaritas are balanced, flavorful, and a little dangerous in the best way. Pablo behind the bar deserves a special mention because his drinks are always on point. The staff is friendly, warm, and accommodating, and we’re at that point where we feel like regulars, which always makes the experience even better. Skinny’s has become one of those spots that makes the neighborhood feel like home. Delicious food, great energy, and a place we’re always happy to return to. Update: big shoutout to the team, cause they always make us feel like family. We don’t know everyone’s names, unfortunately, but Diana and Pablo and FANTASTIC!

My girlfriend and I were walking around the area, and we wanted to grab drinks and a quick bite, man… the shrimp tostadas were so good! The shrimp were juicy and flavorful We had esquite too and added it to our tostadas! The best. The drink was strong , not pictured because we ate it so quick was their tres leches cake!!! Super creamy! I’d def go again!

Food was OK but not anything memorable. Atmosphere was dated with good music that was a little too loud to hold a conversation. I went with the family so probably not the venue for young kids. Highlight were the servers. Everyone was happy, helpful and provided prompt service. The tip was added into the bill. Chicken tacos were marked as $16 on the menu but the bill charged $17. Drinks were great especially the spicy tequila ones.

At nearly 15 years old, Skinny's has become one of the longest running bars in LIC and one of Center Blvd's most recognizable businesses. They have had their share of service and food related issues, but my approach has remained the same: enjoy the festive atmosphere, make sure the owner Skinny is around, drink lots of cocktails with good company, and enjoy the immaculate view of the Manhattan skyline. (#1) The ambiance is festive and definitely has the feel and colors of a Tex-Mex type spot with lots of natural lighting and a good amount of tables. At night, it has a more nightlife vibe with a prominent bar and plenty of spirits to choose from. Tequila based drinks are what I'd recommend here year round, and a few bar snacks wouldn't hurt either. Food wise, it's hardly glamorous. While they are one of the few Mexican themed establishments in the hood, it's not particularly amazing food unfortunately. Their elote and tacos were on the dry side during my last go-around and the fajita platters / guac felt a bit too pricey and subpar otherwise. Mexican food already has a bad rap in NYC and the options here aren't helping. The real issues have been the service. Skinny always brings good energy and lots of smiles, but when he's not in house, the staff can really make or break the experience. Whether it's 'tude from the bartenders / servers, it's often longer waits that test the patience of many patrons. The auto-gratuity is probably not the best move here, but to know about it ahead of time at least sets some expectations. I do envision better days for them because it is a nice venue with a lot going on for it. While it's easy (#2) to take the food less seriously, it would make a dramatic difference if the staff was simply on top of their game. As long as the expectations are curbed, a visit to Skinny's could certainly be a lot worse. ___________ (#1) Gantry Plaza is the best. (#2) Frankly, a little too easy.

Arrived on a Sunday at 230.. it was empty... no vibe .. Spanish music which is okay but again no vibe. When I think of brunch I think of a good day time party lol but eating. Anywho I ordered the salmon Benedict's which was good and my partner ordered the chicken & waffle . He liked the chicken. Peach Bellini & Bloody Mary was good. The Bloody Mary was lemony. Which is a first for me but it was good.

Skinny Cantina was honestly just mid. The service was okay ,staff were polite but not very attentive, with long gaps between check-ins or refill offers. The food itself was fine, but definitely not memorable, not the best or worst I've had around NYC. Overall, it's an average spot, but with so many great Mexican restaurants in the city, I think there are better options out there.

I went there today with my daughter, and this place was horrible. The service was decent but the food left little to be desired. My chicken and waffles were horrible two small chicken nuggets on waffles?? I will never go back. Save your money, there aren't many options in that area. They have a prime location

Food was delicious. Had the steak tacos and chicken quesadillas. Tacos were regular but that green sauce elevated it. Quesadillas were a HIT. IMut wasn't so busy so I'm not sure why it took them so long to take our order. Definitely worrh the trip

I have a question.... Would anyone know why an establishment would have 5 guest represented on the receipt instead of the actual number of people which was only 3 ? I'm wondering if it has to do with adding on a higher gratuity percentage. (If so it's giving shady behavior) Anyways moving on... Food was good, everyone was pleased with what they ordered. My fajitas vegan style was yummy. The guac was exceptionally great at this place I must say. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The frozen margs were good. Enjoy!

10/10 food! The guacamole is excellent the flavor is perfect not too much cilantro and it has the right balance of lime n salt. The carne tacos and Birria tacos were also so good I forgot to take a picture until after I ate. We got margarita pitchers and the drinks were strong and not watered down. The only thing is the service was not the best but we were a large party so it's understandable. Parking in this area is always terrible but we managed to find street parking after 30 mins of searching. Gantry state park is right around the corner so it's a nice walk with great views after your meal. I will definitely be back here!

If you're looking for basic Mexican w mediocre service this is your place. It's a weird vibe because they have a ton of servers but every time we come ot seems they are more focused on talking w each other and their cell phones than the customers. We got the veggie burrito and shrimp fajitas and both were hot and plenty of food but flavor tasted like it was more del taco than authentic cantina style Mexican. Margaritas were good so maybe it's a better drinking spot. Always has decent crowd and nice upbeat music so maybe that's it.

The carnitas fritas was honestly so good and soft. The green sauce that came with it was the best. The service was great, they came by and gave us water constantly. The building was cute it was like a shack but like cute.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Skinny's Cantina was easily one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had--and that's saying something. Let's start with the "bottomless brunch." More like bottomless regret. The mimosas? Either the orange juice was watered down, or they're serving Champagne-flavored tap water--couldn't tell, but either way, it was undrinkable. We literally had to spike our own drinks just to feel something. That's not bottomless brunch, that's BYOB with extra steps. And don't even get me started on the food. They charged me extra for butter on my toast and cheese on my eggs. Yes, you read that right--an upcharge for cold, rock-hard butter that couldn't spread if its life depended on it. I've had better toast at a motel continental breakfast. Then there's the lemonade they gave my daughter. It was straight-up concentrate and water. No shame at all. When we complained, they said they added sugar--spoiler alert: they didn't. They just watered it down again and hoped we wouldn't notice. The service? Nonexistent. We genuinely felt like we were bothering them by showing up. Zero warmth, zero effort, and zero accountability. It was clear they didn't care about our experience--or anyone's, for that matter. Skinny's Cantina is all hype and absolutely no substance. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Do yourself a favor and brunch literally anywhere else.

Slow service, despite have many employees. Quiet when we came in at lunchtime on a Saturday. The Gratuity on our 4-person table was already included when our check came - they gave themselves 20%. Food and drinks are expensive and pretty average. Guacamole and chips were salty. Addition of jalapeños in the calamari was interesting and liked by some of our party. Out of everything we ordered, the calamari was the favorite.

First time and last time visiting. 20 minute wait to be seated even tho we had reservations in place and there were available tables. Hostess seemed extremely flustered and overwhelmed. After being seated it took another 25 minutes for a waiter to greet us and take our order. We had the boozy brunch for $40. They brought us only 1 mimosa glass the entire hour we were waiting. We then had to flag them down to bring us refills. They brought us orange juice and forgot the champagne, not once but twice! Our food took at least an hour to come out. Food was good but not worth the wait. The restaurant was filthy. Dirty floors and windows and let's not even get into the bathroom. Disgusting! I can only imagine what the back of the kitchen looks like. They add a credit card fee and 20% gratuity even tho service was lacking. Parking is impossible in this area. Never again. Complete waste of time and money. It wasn't even a vibe. A bunch of babies. You couldn't even get a buzz. Wackkk. Do not believe the social media hype.

Not sure why the reviews are so harsh for this place. Been walking passed it for years and decided to come give it a try. Service is a bit slow yes but the staff is very kind and responsive and you call them over or talk to them. Food was actually really good and they're accommodating. Order the shrimp fajitas and chicken fajitas and they were great and full of flavor. Definitely would come back based on the food itself. Interior can be organized a bit as it is cluttered and dated.

We stopped by this place while in Long Island city looking for a quick bite. I will say I regret not going to a food truck instead because this experience was lackluster at best. We sat outside and ordered queso and tacos. They brought us the wrong tacos and the queso was rubbery and greasy. I truly couldn't even bother to picture it. Fun and young vibe, with a dive bar feel! Drinks: we ordered the frozen margaritas and they were just ok! We couldn't taste the alcohol, so it felt like I was consuming a copious amount of sugar. The cocktails were similar Ambience: this is a really loud/ party spot. It plays music from the 2000s, so definitely has strong young millennial vibes. But it felt a bit dingy Service: decent service Price: reasonably priced but they add it gratuity and credit card fees

2nd time coming here and finally got the chance to ask for the name of our server from last time. His name is Jose. He is amazing in all seriousness. He remembered us from the previous time and treated us with lots of hospitality. This time around instead of the chicken nachos I tried the chorizo nachos and I left the plate spotless. Super good. My daughter loved the sweet and spicy wings. Service is still nothing short of amazing and we will be back here again to try different food options. Also their music / vibe is A1

Tipping Policy Sucks !!! As a vegetarian, I like their veggie burrito. The food is consitent and the service always pleasant. The ambiance provides a great compliment to the food, offering a Mexican themed back drop to liesurely enjoy your time there. Overall a great experience except for one thing . The last two times I have eaten there, both as a party of two, the TIP was included , but not clearly stated on the bill. The staff does not tell you, nor are there any posted signs, so if you don't catch it, you end up adding a tip on top of a tip. No Bueno !!!

Four years later and skinny cantina is still the same . Good vibes drinks and food. I went in today with a voucher I had for their brunch. The voucher consisted of two menu meals and 2 hours of unlimited mimosas, bloody Marys and Bellini. My husband and I asked the manager if we could substitute for something more sweet like sangria and she honored it (shout out to the manager). When we arrived after 12pm there was about 3 other parties there, but as time went on about an hour in guests started to roll in . We ordered the skinny burger and shrimp burrito, both were really good. We also ordered a extra side of fries. In total we paid a little over 6 dollars for the extra fried and a little over 18 dollars for the gratuity (tip). It was more than worth it and we will definitely visit again soon .

TEQUILA & TACOS the food is soo good and authentic which makes for a great meal !! The staff is upbeat and if you sit at the bar it is definitely a fun time. The decor is old world Mexico in a way which is fun.

Their low rating is undeserved!!! I used to live in LIC and me and my girlfriend would love coming here. The food is amazing and decent value. The service for sure is subpar though but works well enough. The solution is ordering for takeout and eating it immediately. I recommend their burritos as well as their calamari. For some reason their calamari is so fire.

Skinny's is a cool local joint that I love for their nice happy hour and strong drinks. It's near the LIC waterfront so the neighborhood is beautiful. Service: The wait to get in was about 25 minutes which were fine with. We sat outside with our baby and pup. Even though it took a while for our server to greet us, once they did they were attentive and checked on us continuously. 7/10 Ambiance: The restaurant reminds of an old western Mexican restaurant with their rustic decor and beautiful Mexican artwork and posters. The seats and tables are also wood, adding to the rustic vibe. Latin Music flooded the airways. Me and my 2 year old were getting down to Bad Bunny! Over all I do like the restaurants vibe. 7.9/10 Food: I had a frozen passion fruit margarita and hubby had the frozen strawberry margarita. My Passion fruit margarita was ok in terms of taste but it did have a kick to it. I can always appreciate a heavy pour! Hubby said the same for his, he wasn't a huge fan of the taste but it did pack a punch. Since the main focus were drinks, we ordered guac and chips for the baby and I did really enjoy the guacamole because it was seasoned and fresh. Hubby really liked the spicy salsa that came with it. My best friend and I came here on a beautiful Sunday and it was our first time here. I had a $39 brunch voucher for two people which included one entree each and two hours of bottomless drinks (a rarity considering most restaurants these days do 60 to 90 minutes of bottomless drinks). There is a $2 upcharge for Steak & Eggs and a $5 upcharge for Fajitas. This place had a really good vibe, funky Mexican decor and an amazing mix of music. The staff was really nice & attentive. We never waited for our frozen margaritas (which tasted fantastic by the way). Before we could finish the last bit in our cups our server was ready to give us another one. We were so pleased about that. We both ordered fajitas (I ordered the steak fajitas and my best friend ordered the chicken fajitas). Our orders came with a plate of black beans and yellow rice and also some warm flour tortillas. The fajitas were perfectly seasoned, large in portion, and a great compliment to our frozen margaritas. We cannot wait to return here again. The establishment is just a few blocks away from the waterfront where you can enjoy beautiful scenery with Manhattan views.

This is a great place to stop off for a bite before taking a walk around Gantry park. Delicious, moderately priced Tex/mex food and margaritas. I personally love the mezcalita, made with fresh ingredients so it's easy in the tummy. We gone here for happy hour, dinner and brunch and it's always busy so maybe call ahead.

45 minutes for nachos? Are you kidding me? They weren't bad but, come on now. We were one of five tables and I cannot imagine how it would be when they were actually busy. Do not go, it's gone way down hill. Also, what's with the gratuity? It's included in the check and then after you pay there's another ask for a tip?

I came here for a lunch date with a friend and we had a great time. For our drinks my friend ordered a coke and I ordered a frozen passion fruit margarita. The coke was fresh and the frozen margarita was so good! For our appetizer, we got the chicken wings, which were amazing. For our entrees my friend ordered a chicken burrito and I ordered the chicken crunch tacos. The burrito was huge and she had to take it home lol. My tacos were so good. They were very filling. Overall a great experience and I would definitely come back! The only thing they're missing is a happy hour. If they had one I would visit them weekly!

Headed here on a Saturday late afternoon without a reservation. Despite the crowd both inside and outside, was able to snag a table for two without a wait. Settled on the Al Pastor Burrito ($15) to go along with a Frozen Mango Margarita ($15). Food takes some time to arrive but the burrito looks great, as there is a good amount of heft as well as extra sour cream/guacamole to the side. Flavor is pretty good though not as much meat as I would have thought. Cheese on top also seems less than usual. Some extra hot sauce helped bring the spice level. The frozen margarita is refreshing while not overly strong - probably would stick to not getting a flavored one next time. While the servers did their best, it was pretty packed, with several large groups to contend with. Prices are higher than expected, yet they do have a lot of options and seating to go around.

So, I've hesitated to go to Skinny's ever since I've moved to LIC about 6 years ago. Prices seem a bit high for Tex-Mex with Casa Enrique down the block. I was also a bit irked by some of the outdoor seating distancing (albeit this is a far more recent concern), though it looks like they may have cleaned this up a bit (and they'd hardly be the only offenders). But, I've always wanted to try their steak burrito, filled with steak, seasoned rice and beans, sharp cheddar, and comes with sweet and spicy chipotle sauce and cilantro lime creme. And it's also $18. But a doordash deal arrived, lessening the blow, so I went for it. It is indeed, rather yuuuge. The meat / rice ratio could be a bit more generous, but it was tasty, and enjoyed the side sauces (spicy chipotle ftw) and guac. While I still think it could be the very good location that keeps this place rather flush with business, I would like to give it a proper shot and do a full sit-down meal sometime soon.

Believe the stars ... Walked in ... there was only 1 waitress... Took sometime to order our food. We had no utensils & had to keep asking for water refills * smh We ordered the passion fruit lemonade ( it was extremely sour we returned them ) Then ordered the salmon and the tostada Both were WACkKkkk The salmon was spicy af and hard The tostadas were OkY no flavor , didn't come with a lime or anything to add a kick to it. A flavorless meal. Would never return.

This is definitely not my first pick for Mexican food but I honestly love coming here for the staff. The food is unfortunately not the best. In my opinion it is very salty but I would stick to basics like chips and guac, the quesadilla etc. I usually come here for happy hour. They have some great beers on tap and I love their frozen margaritas. Cristina the bar tender is super sweet! The staff overall is super friendly and is definitely the reason why I'd come back. My suggestion is to get some drinks and light bites.

Fair prices, generous portions, mediocre food, good service. Our server was very friendly and attentive. For the appetizer, we ordered chips and guac that are not complimentary. Guac itself was amazing, but I wished they gave us more chips. I ordered steak fajitas and was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion. However, the steak was very chewy, dry, and overcooked. I should've ordered chicken instead as this may have been a safer choice. Overall, I had to dock off a few stars because I didn't like the fact that we were not informed of the gratuity that was automatically included in the bill along with the extra fee if paid with a credit card. Please either remove this business practice or let your customers know beforehand!

This place is a MUST. Drinks were strong, food was delicious, and vibes were immaculate. The portions were so much, we literally took home half of our entrees. The drinks were also tasty and worth the price. We ordered the nachos and supplemented the chorizo with steak. It was very delicious and the nachos weren't soggy like other places. The burrito was as big as my face. I had to cut it in half just to avoid making a mess. The enchiladas came with rice and beans on the side. Those enchiladas were sooooo good. I was so happy to have them for leftovers the next day. The meat was a little sweet and it was shredded beef. I'm definitely coming back here again. Staff were also great and I can tell it's fun to go here at night. We went for lunch on a Saturday.

I really wanted to like this place, and just didn't. I thought the food was not amazing, and it just adds insult to injury when you're paying those prices for that. I will say, however, that the best part of the place is the waitstaff, all of whom were very professional and friendly. Would not really recommend this to anyone, and I don't think I'll be returning either.

We stopped here after a visit to Gantry Park and I have to say that it was not good. We ordered some guacamole for the table to start and they brought us a small cup with half guac and half chopped up chunky tomatoes...and well...guess who doesn't eat tomatoes?!! Me!! The al pastor tacos were generic but not too bad. My cousin and I shared the beef and shrimp fajitas but when all the food came out we ended up with chicken and beef, so had to wait for the correct plate. All in all the food was just something to keep us from being hungry and nothing more. Sadly we will not be returning.

Went here with a few friends after walking around Gantry and Hunter's Point. Everyone is so friendly and the food is AMAZING! I don't usually eat guacamole but their's was so good and their house sauce that was also served with the chips was delicious! I ordered the Al Pastor 5 stars, will definitely get again. Fernelis had the crunchy beef tacos and Erin ordered the roasted corn salad. Will definitely be coming back and I want to get the frozen Margaritas next time.

This place has really gone downhill. The music is unbearably loud. I'm there to have dinner, not to have my ears pounded by music that I don't even like. This isn't a club. My friend and I made reservations online and the host claimed to not have them and when we showed her confirmation of our reservation, her response was simply "yeah, we don't work with that site anymore." Uh... then maybe take the restaurant off the site??? The food is just ok. And the prices are frankly, astronomical. Plus, they tack on a ridiculous tip to the bill when we were only a party of 2. What restaurant does that??? We almost didn't notice and were about to double tip which would have been insane considering the service we got. The only reason to go there is for the frozen strawberry margaritas. Seriously, TURN DOWN THE FREAKING MUSIC.

Ok. PLEASE listen to the reviews and DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE. So the food is GARBAGE lol the food is trashhhhhhhhh. My whole party agreed. When we walked in we were seated and wasn't greeted by a waitress for half an hour until we complained and asked for our waitress. She took our order and LITERALLY AFTER AN HOUR WE DIDN'T GET OUR DRINKS. I asked for a supervisor 3 times before yelling like a mad woman at the workers. Once I did that they ran out with our drinks and food. After an hour of waiting, our orders were wrong, appetizers were missing, and the food was gross nd bland. No seasoning. Just digusting Mexican food. I hope everyone stays away from this crappy establishment.

It's an okay choice if you're in the area and want to grab something casual. I Had both their chorizo and chicken taco. I preferred the chorizo. The chicken was very dry and flavorless. Service was hardly attentive. We sat for over 15 minutes before we even received a menu. However the food did come out timely after placing our order.

The best thing I can say about this place is that the staff is friendly. However, that's after they completely botch your good friend's birthday reservation and seat your party TWO HOURS after the reservation time and that's also setting aside how awful the food is. It's in no way shape or form acceptable as Mexican food or resembling Mexican food except that tortillas are involved. MAYBE Tex-Mex but it's probably a poor representation of even that. I feel so sad for my friend who trusted this place to take care of his birthday and it was nothing but disappointment all around.
