I walked into Skyland Restaurant, a family-owned spot in South Charlotte, because the place I originally planned to visit Tryon House didn't serve breakfast all day. It was my friend's birthday, and since he loves breakfast, we needed a place that would deliver.
This was my first time at Skyland, and it definitely won't be my last! The restaurant had a warm, homey feel--almost like a diner, but with more of a family-friendly vibe. The service was exceptional! Our server, Jackie, mentioned she only works on weekends, but I'd go back just to sit in her section again.
We started with the made-from-scratch onion rings, which came with a house-made ranch so good I could have drunk it. Jackie also recommended the chicken and rice soup, and let me tell you it was so good my friend nearly ate mine! She ended up bringing him his own bowl, which was such a sweet touch.
For the main meal, my friend got the Skyland Big Breakfast, which came with everything including three huge, fluffy pancakes. I went for the chicken and dumplings, with mashed potatoes and gravy on the side. The best part? They let me swap out a side for banana pudding, and of course, I had to try it!
From the food to the service, everything exceeded my expectations. I loved every moment of this meal it was an unexpected gem, and I can't wait to go back!
