Downtown indie bookstore with smart staff picks and lively author events, from midnight launches to silent book clubs—very much a local literary living room. ([skylarkbookshop.com](https://www.skylarkbookshop.com/?utm_source=openai))

This place is awesome! It is suck a wonderful bookstore, filled with all the things that should be there (books!). The staff was anxious to help and very personable. The store has a good mix of literature, and a super-cool children's area. If you want a local bookstore, rather than some big chain, this is the place to go!

Went during the low sensory hours, instead of quiet I had to listen to the cashier and a customer screaming about generational trauma and general abuse. Was not very low sensory whatsoever. It’s frustrating to see a business advertise low sensory hour and not follow through with it.

My wife and I have been going to Skylark for a couple of years now, and it's a wonderful trip each time we go in. The staff are kind and helpful, the store has a clean and neat presentation, and the new book offerings at the front are updated on a regular basis. If you want to purchase books that aren't offered in store you can order directly through their site and have it shipped to the store. Local independent bookstores are really important for the community and this store is one everyone should give a chance.

The best bookstore I've been too! The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful! The selection was amazing. I loved the bookish items (including jewelry, candles, wallets, stickers, and more)! The ascetic was beautiful and clean. The children's section had a tree with birds hanging from it. It was everything I wanted in a bookstore, but haven't found until now!

Skylark is your quintessential local bookshop. I went on a Saturday morning when there was a children’s book reading in the shop’s front window to greet me as I entered. It was busy, but not crowded. The staff were kind and helpful, but provided the space for patrons to peruse leisurely. Based on my selections, at checkout, the staff suggested a book club offered at the shop each month where everyone is welcome.

Incredible bookshop. Immense selection, with a knowledgeable staff. We’re lucky to have this place in Columbia, MO. This is my number one stop whenever I’m walking around downtown.

Beautifully-curated selection and space. I love that there’s a diversity in books, as well as a decent children’s section considering the size. My partner and I consistently support Skylark and we’re so excited to see it come to Columbia a handful of years ago!

Yelp
We happened upon Skylark Bookshop walking around one day when we had free time during a swim meet. We love to go to book stores and browse their shelves. When we walked into the bookstore, we were greeted by friendly faces. The store is nice, organized and clean. They had many different books on two levels! In the upper level of the shop, they have a table with a chess board, which was nice because my younger child was finished looking at books and had already picked out a couple of things before his sister. We sat at the table while working on his books while she kept on looking. We left this bookstore with a few different selections of books and other items. We really enjoyed shopping at this bookstore and would recommend a stop here!

Yelp
In town for work and without a book to read, I found myself in Skylark with two friends. What a cute shop! And well organized and with knowledgeable, friendly, and well-read employees. We probably spent longer than intended making conversation and chatting about books. Also they have a section called Comfort Food for just fluff. And mystery date books that are hidden in brown paper with only the first sentence as a clue--but they're half off. It's a fun concept but also nerve-wrecking. I purchased a paperback from my to read list and am probably going to call them to ship a couple others, just because they were really that nice. Also if you need freeze dried snacks (skittles, pie, etc.) there have them.

Yelp
Best book store in Columbia. Staff has the best recommendations and selection is diverse without pandering to the lowest common denominator. If you want a real treat, spring for a Book Spa. Ask the staff. It's worth it.

Yelp
I love this bookshop. Fun selections inside the store--great selection of local writers as well. If they don't have it, the wonderful staff is always there to help. Plus there is a book dog.

Yelp
This is a phenomenal little bookshop staffed by people who love to read and love good writing. The owner is a novelist (and lawyer!) and seemingly a voracious reader; he has never steered me (or anyone in my family) wrong with a book recommendation. My elementary school daughter has a very unique taste -- she's years ahead, in terms of sophistication and reading comprehension (and reading pace), but likes old-fashioned writing, not the modern fantasy series that seem to fill shelves at conventional stores and the library; the good folks at Skylark have turned us onto quite a few options that we would not have found otherwise. The other review is correct; this is a place to buy literary fiction, not pulp. But the selection is great, they read it all, and they love to talk books. AND THERE'S A DOG. Support independent booksellers!!! They make downtown a happier place for all of us.

Yelp
New-book prices as the books are new, of course. Decent selection of books but a lot of the store is sort of try-hard literary fiction. The building is cool and the staff is moderately friendly.
