Yelp
This is the only place in Pittsburg serving authentic Chinese/Taiwanese cuisine. It's a gem of a mom-and-pop that's located in a historic hotel building, which is really cool. Plenty of street parking since it's in downtown Pittsburg, which is already pretty quiet.
It's owned by an older Taiwanese gentleman and his wife, who is from Henan province in western China. Thus, the menu is a mix of Taiwanese specialties (Taiwanese beef noodle soup, Lu Rou Fan, green onion pancake) and some Western Chinese dishes (like Yo Po Mian, etc). Super interesting place! I ended up striking a conversation with the owner in Mandarin.
I've come here twice and would recommend:
- Braised Pork over Rice 滷肉飯: Wow, eating this took me back to the night markets in Taipei. This is a classic Taiwanese braised pork dish. We only wish that it came with more meat.
- Beef Noodle Soup: This is a delicious Taiwanese-style beef noodle soup, flavored with tomatoes, Chinese spices, and chili bean paste.
- Pan-fried pork buns 生煎包: The dough was fluffy but it had a crispy bottom. Loved this!
- Combo Chow Mien 什錦炒麵(刀削麵): This is a sleeper hit. The noodles were really garlicky, and you have the option of ordering it with knife shaved noodles, which have a nice bounce to them. It's a little too salty though.
Given the neighborhood, it's a standout restaurant serving authentic Chinese and Taiwanese food that you can't find anywhere else in Pittsburg. Come and support this immigrant business!
