I've been to this location twice, the Research location once for a curbside pickup, but we're focusing on the Whitestone here. Food first, the first visit my wife had the BBQ Nachos and I had the Notorious P.I.G. First and foremost, the nachos are for big fat fatties and sharing. It is ALOT, which is great bang for the buck, but come hungry or with help if you plan on getting them. They wound up being a second meal for my wife later that evening. Also note, that if you get the nachos as a pick up order, it'll be a "Build Your Own" setup, all the ingredients in the bag, you put it together, which we weren't a fan of, but we get the logic behind it due to unknown travel time in a vehicle. Don't want the chips to soggy. The P.I.G. was a pulled pork sandwich with their signature sauce on it, nothing crazy, but it was delicious. The next visit my wife had learned her lesson and got the El Jefe and I got the Texas Two Step. I can't tell you which sandwich I liked better, because before I knew it I was done with it. My wife loved the El Jefe, and I was admittedly jealous of her choice over mine when I saw it in person, but again, mine was delicious, so that's that. Don't expect a lot of bells and whistles for the sandwiches. They're just tasty bbq sandwiches and sides with creative names. I feel the owner was like "People like bbq, and they like hip hop, let's merge the two." It's not some fancy gourmet spin on bbq sandwiches where you might find a orange peel for zest or some edible flower on top, it's just good bbq with a theme. The sugar cookies are made to look like iconic people in hip hop, and though I didn't have one, my wife said she liked them. The potato casserole and banana pudding won my wife over, I'm not a fan of either in general, so I didn't partake, but I trust her review.
They have a few craft beers on tap, and they come out in one of the most mind blowing ways possible. My wife wasn't impressed because it wasn't new to her, but I had personally never seen a beer fill up from the bottom like some Dr. Strange work of sorcery.
The hip hop theme is dope, and the Austin skyline is nicely incorporated to the giant mural on the wall. Hear me out...the restroom is super dope with all the hip hop posters in there, you almost forget to actually use the facility. As a hip hop head, I appreciate the nods to classics and staples of the culture scattered about the place's decor. I mean, a blimp that says "The World is Yours" on it? Come on. My only gripe is that for their logo to be a nod to Outkast, I need more Outkast in the playlist, I heard none. Other than that, it might not be your favorite bbq's place favorite bbq place, but this place is definitely worth the visit for the vibe, IG worthy decor, and filled bellies.
