Slab's BBQ

First time trying this BBQ place. Customer service is phenomenal. Greeted at the door and was given that southern hospitality that I’m use to. The food was okay though. I got the potato salad and baked beans. But the brisket did have flavor. It was all kind of cold too. Overall, I’m glad I tried this place.

It’s a really hard market to get into and be successful! With that being said, I’m sorry but this just isn’t it. The people working there are great and friendly. When you walked in there’s nothing to it, as the same vibe as walking into just a little hood spot. I was caught off guard by the grill in the center of the kitchen with a bunch of thick raw meat on it but I ignored it. I looked at the menu and there is nothing special which can be perfectly fine because the real word is in the food. I ordered the two meat plate (ribs and brisket), fries, beans and a large drink. $20. Ok not bad on the price. Waited a couple of minutes and had my food. I asked for bbq sauce and she said it’s on it already. Unfortunately this was a red flag because not everyone likes bbq sauce on their bbq and you put it on already? I opened the plate and was left with just hoping for the best. The ribs were small and pushing the sauce aside I found the brisket clumped with fat. Fries were normal, beans store bought, then came the bbq, the ribs were very dry and had little to no smoke ring. The brisket was tough and clumped with fat to add moisture. The sauce isn’t the best. I believe most of the meat is prepared on that center kitchen grill to be honest. I wanted to find a hole in the wall gem but unfortunately I found just a hole in the wall. Again the people there are great and I only wish the best for their business but unfortunately I can’t recommend the bbq because it just wasn’t good.

Oh how I love this place. The brother & sister that run it are super friendly and the food is always amazing and fresh. I’m in here at least once a week. I always got the chopped beef sandwich and they kept telling me to try their baked potato with chopped beef… man! That’s some good stuff right there haha. Super friendly people, good food, check them out!

I Walked in yesterday to get a lb. of sliced beef for dinner. And got nothing but sliced fat, every slice was at least 75% fat. Not 1 lean piece or marbled for that matter. Straight fat slices. For 20+ dollars it was extremely disappointing. I was referred to try this restaurant for years by a family member. Should have just bypass and kept my money

Found this place on Google. Customer service was perfect. I received my food within 5-6mins, so that’s a plus. I ordered a 2 meat plate, ribs and sliced beef. It wasn’t the best BBQ, definitely a different taste. The ribs were small, they put very little bbq sauce. The potato salad was ok, and the baked beans taste regular. Banana pudding was ok. I wouldn’t return, but they seem like a good business so I hope they continue getting business.

Best Chopped Beef baked potato I’ve had in years. Great people, incredible food. 10 out of 10!

Take-out only! We were hoping to dine-in. I had the beef sandwich. Loved it. Finely chopped. I tangy sauce. Totally my thing.

I only had a few stuffed baked potatoes, i loved the fact that the size of the potatoe was equivalent to the meat and toppings. I can't stand places where the potatoe was 9 times the size of how much meat and other items they put on there. Very solid baked potato, no issues!

The reviews lead us here, and we were not disappointed! Some of the best pulled pork I've ever had, and the fired okra was cooked perfectly! The service was excellent and the owners are very friendly. Totally worth the stop!

Went to Slabs to kill some time and try out a place I'd never been before. Saw reviews and got curious! The service is the best around, probably one of the best customer service experiences I've had ever. As said before, went to kill time so that I could wait out a bit of my commute. However, didn't know there was nowhere to dine inside! Being 100+ degrees outside, I did not want to have to wait out my commute in my car. Asked the guys working if they knew of any parks or seating where I could eat, and they offered me a chair! Honestly good vibes while I was sitting and eating. One of the guys working offered me water with my food (got a half rack of ribs, delicious! Soaked in a bunch of delicious BBQ sauce! Very tender, flavorful), and when I showed him that I'd brought my own water bottle offered to put some ice in it. Very, very thoughtful. Hands down, amazing food, chill atmosphere, and EXCELLENT customer service. I will be coming again even though it's a bit out of my normal way. Thank you Slabs BBQ for a great experience and dinner!!

I love the ribs and brisket sandwiches they have I haven't tried anything else. Everything looks good it's a little pricey but it's worth it. It's the closest one that I like to get Barbecue from so I tend to go go every chance I get. The staff is nice also the owner.

Such an amazing, caring and sweet brother and sister DUO. I got a catering size order for my office and everyone loved it. Brisket is extremely tender and the potato salad might be the best I've ever had. Will definitely be coming back.

Slabs is great when you do not wish to cook. They are quick and efficient in getting out your food fresh and hot. My wife loved the stuffed brisket baked potato. I generally go for the ribs or pulled pork. I did have Slabs cater/prepare a rather large order for a nearby political convention. The sandwiches were a big hit. This is not a sit down Resturant, so be prepared to pick it up and eat on your tailgate, a nearby park picnic table or just take it on home.

Best barbecue in town wouldn't eat anywhere else. Good potato salad. And loaded baked potato.

I could smell this place from a mile away. They had a family atmosphere. Looooooovvvvveeddd the bbq sauce. Everything was great.

Being a bbq owner this has gotten to be my favorite spot that compares to my own bbq ,Both the guys in here were great and very friendly . Great job you guys ,and stay around for another 21 years .I will keep coming back on Saturdays.

Best BBQ I've had in a long time. Very friendly and hospitable. Generous portions and that real home cooked flavor. You can just tell they really care about the food they serve. Good price and fast service! Next time I will try the homemade banana pudding.

The ribs were fantastic. Large and very meaty. The sauce was not up to par with the meat. The sides were fries and potato salad. Pretty average in both categories. To be honest The ribs if judged alone would be a 5. So if you are just going to get a sack of ribs by all means this is a great place.

I just visited Slabs BBQ in Mesquite and was overwhelmed by the customer service. You just don't find customer service like this anymore. Upon walking in I was greeted and my order was remembered even though lengthy. I was offered my drink while I waited on my food and also a refill if needed. The gentlemen preparing the food was equally phenomenal. He was kind and ready to offer whatever I was asking for. Great place and great food, I will continue to go back!

First time ever having slabs bbq by far this is the BEST bbq I've had! Great customer service will be back soon!

I went looking for a small mom-and-pop barbecue place, and definitely found it at Slab's. The three folks working there were certainly friendly & had obviously been around one another for a long time. There were very hospitable, offering samples of brisket, sausage, and their barbecue sauce without me even asking. This is a "to go" only place, and the prices are very reasonable, especially when compared to other, better known 'que joints. My order: Two meats (brisket & sausage). Sides: Beans, okra, and banana pudding. How was it? The brisket was just OK, with no evidence of bark or burnt ends. It was moist enough, but there wasn't a lot of smoke present. There was definitely some...just not a lot. The sausage was pretty standard. I asked for extra sauce but didn't receive any. The meat was served with 2 slices of white sandwich bread. The sides: The beans were undoubtedly straight from a can with no additions or adornments. The fried okra was good, but also obviously straight from a freezer pack. The banana pudding was solid, however, and obviously homemade. Bottom line: There are better barbecue options in the Dallas region of Texas, but you won't find nicer folks serving it than the family here at Slab's, and that ought to be worth something. 2.5 stars for the food, and a bonus half-star for the hospitality.

Just got some ribs From these super nice folks... and let me tell you, I've bbqed ribs my whole short life... and these guys know how to do it right... and the service was super nice, they saw me in the parkin lot ready to order and 30 minutes before they opened they waived me in. Thank you both. This place will defiantly be getting my money for years to come. God bless!

Over rated and way over priced You can smoke meats better in your own backyard NOTHING SPECIAL

First and foremost this place was on my radar because I pass it on my way to the mall. I decided to stop and try them out. I had a two meat plate with chopped beef with two sides French fries and baked beans. The chopped beef was extremely greasy, swimming in grease. The sausage was ok. The beans tasted like bushes baked beans and the fries were fresh I had to wait for them. The couple working was nice and worked to get the food out in a timely manner. But the food overall, I didn't care for it.

Dive! Can't sit down. Noone said a word to you? Man sneezed all over and didnt cover mouth or wash hands? Ribs were being grilled (on fire) vs smoked? Sliced beef Sandwich had all the fat in it and wasn't trimmed. Not worth going back.

Fantastic people, meat melts in your mouth, will stop anytime I'm passing through Mesquite.

I live about 10 minutes away and have been wanting to try Slab's BBQ for a while. So, one Saturday afternoon I drove over and had lunch. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience at all. First off, I read the Yelp reviews so I knew to expect a dive. That's totally fine since I like dives. So long as I don't get stabbed, shot or come down with food poisoning...LOL. That said, I did somehow miss anything about there being no seating. Slab's is completely takeout, which surprised me. Because of that, I ended up ordering a chopped brisket sandwich, side of potato salad and large DP instead of my normal 2-meat platter. All in, it cost me just under $9. I ate in my car out in the parking lot. The brisket was awesome! It was packed into a fresh, super soft bun and had been cooked with a sweet -- but not overpowering -- BBQ sauce. It was "melt in your mouth" good and I really liked it. Portion sizes of the sides are somewhat odd. The "small" is 5-6oz. The "medium" is 16oz and the "large" serving is a jumbo size 32oz. Both the medium and large sides are served in fountain drink cups! Needless to say, I got the small potato salad. I don't know if it was store-bought or homemade, but it was some of the best I've had in a while. It wasn't frozen / hard and was easy to eat with a fork. It had nice, slightly tangy taste. I'm definitely a BBQ snob and Slab's was a good experience for me. I want to try their ribs, sausage and brisket next time. But I'll probably wait 'til the next time I have company and try a full "pickup" meal. If you're in the area I would recommend you stop by and check out them out for yourself.

This place is great. Takeout only. Anybody that says it's overpriced is delusional. I got a chopped pork sandwich for less than $5.

I like Slabs. Reminds me of Chicago BBQ from my old hang out there. A bit pricey, but sometimes I will indulge.

The food is good and service is ok. Parking lacking because it's by a gas station and barber shop. I always get the pulled pork sandwich. The sides aren't the best and come in a very small "cup".

I enjoyed the loaded baked potato but I found the sliced beef to be much too salty and not well trimmed of fat. I truly did not enjoy the barbecue sauce. I will be back for the potato as it was tasty and a decent price.

Love this place. Great baked potato loaded w the works. Big enough for two people to eat. Banana pudding is good. Got 2 meat chopped pork & sausage; made 3 meals out of it.

I have been buying bbq from here for years and it has always been good quality. This last visit the quality of the bbq seems to have taken a dive. The brisket was very dry, hard and salty. I bought one pound of brisket and one slab of ribs and three orders of fries. That set me back over $52.00. I am sad to say the brisket wasn't edible. The ribs weren't that special, and unfortunately the fries were from thier freezer. I couldn't eat the fries, way too mushy, and the meat got thrown away. My family asked that I not go back there again. I don't know what happened but I could have bought better bbq and more sides at Dicky's.

3-22-16 The staff was super friendly. The place was definitely a hole-in-the-wall...I just expected it to be a little bit cleaner. The beans were refrigerated and the guy pulled them out & put them in the microwave before giving them to us; who knows how fresh they really were. The flavor was mehhh. The meat had good flavor, but I wouldn't necessarily say it was great. Overall I was a little I disappointed with the food since they had such a great yelp review!

The BEST and most delicious loaded baked potato in the DFW. They top the baked potato off with delicious pork or beef and both are absolutely savory and amazing with the loaded baked potato. I have tried other loaded baked potatoes but NOBODY DOES IT LIKE SLABS!!!!

BBQ is good when no sauce is needed. They DROWN their meat in sauce, and claim it makes the meat taste better. NOT! I asked for no sauce, and the owner poured it on anyway. Attached next door to a convenience store and gas station it's a little tricky to see from the road. I won't return any time soon.

BBQ gods in this little store. I've tried all the meat and I can tell you now it's a religious experience. Perfect smoke and the flavor is absolutely perfect. This place is the top of the bbq mark in mesquite, a must for anyone who loves real bbq.

I'm sorry!!! ; ( Really REALLY wanted to like you BBQ and Pork sandwich...But the salty taste was too much. :( I could feel my blood pressure rise with each bite. q_q I'm really sorry Slabbs...but it ended up in the trash. A BBQ sandwich isn't worth getting sick over. My husband had the same thing happen to him. Guess our bodies aren't used too so much sodium. If you have high blood pressure issues or don't normally eat lots of sodium, it's best to avoid the pulled pork BBQ and try another food on the menu! 3 stars because it was the best 3 bites of my life....it hurt so good!!!

Tried this place for lunch on a Tuesday. It is exactly what I look for when I want BBQ a hole in the wall place with the smell of smoke coming out the door. The customer service was really nice. The brisket sandwich was drenched in BBQ sauce so I could barely taste the brisket. The sauce was a mixture of sweet and tangy. The sandwich was just ok.

Amazing BBQ! small business with such friendly and kind staff. It's aside from a Texaco Gas station, I would of never thought of going if it wasn't for my co-workers recommendation. He has been going there for over 5 years now. I don't blame him, SO GOOD! If you want quality and delicious BBQ I totally recommend checking it out.

This is good backyard barbecue, not he franchise joints that forget the sauce is the best part of the meal.

Slabs is located in a shopping center next to a gas station. The way I came to find this place was I just happened to be putting the customary $5 (back when gas was cheaper) worth of gas in my tank next door. The thick smoke teased me while pumping my gas. I had to go see if the place was on fire or they actually had some decent food. As soon as I walked in, I was overwhelmed with the smokiness everywhere. It's like they were boiling huge pots of Liquid Smoke. But actually they had a wood burning grill that was out in the open. No doors or anything. Not sure how they got this past the strict Mesquite food and safety codes. The white walls were brown and black everywhere from soot and grease accumulating, kind of a turn off. But added to the character I must say. When trying out a new bar b q joint, I like to stick to the safe stuff. So I ordered a chopped beef sandwich, and also got some banana pudding. The chopped beef was very smoky and tender , had them give me the hot meat instead of regular. The meat was wet, just like I like it. The banana pudding was homemade with chunks of Nilla Wafers, real banana's (not Jello banana pudding) and cold from the refrigerator just the way it should be. This is a take out only business, no tables, just two old church chairs and advertisements for small ethnic newspapers and letters. Great food so far, it's been a while though I think it's time for another visit.

This is why I love you yelp. Hidden gems...within a 10 minute drive...that have great takeout. The ribs are awesome, as is the fried okra (prepared to order). The owner and staff are extremely accommodating, they make me wish their credit card receipts had a tip line. Sausage and brisket quality varies but ranges from good to almost awesome. The potato salad and beans are a little...generic. I wish they had sweet tea (because I am sure it would be awesome) and ranch (because I like it with okra). All that said, overall I love Slabs food and it keeps me coming back.

Today I wanted to be adventurous so I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried this new place. Not much to look at from the outside. As soon as I stepped in I was greeted. Very friendly staff. I ordered the fully loaded backed potatoe. In one word it was "massive". It was really good. One word of caution, ask for the BBQ sauce on the side. That 1 baked potato filled me up all day and I'm not a light eater.

My first time to Slabs was a great experience. I went a little after lunch on a Monday and there was no line. The place smelled great and looked about as clean as you could get. The gentleman taking my order was very nice and helpful. I got the chopped beef sandwich and potato salad. The beef has a deep, smokey flavor. The sauce is great. Portions are plentiful. I prefer to support smaller business over the local or national chains and this place makes it easy to do so. I'll be back to try everything on the menu.

When I don't feel like cooking, I come here and get BBQ beef and ribs. The ribs are fall off the bone delicious.
