The 28 Best Salt Lake City Restaurants - Eater

"This locally owned and operated restaurant started in Ogden and recently opened its latest outpost in Industry SLC, an adaptive reuse office space in the trendy Granary District. Loyal customers know Slackwater for its live music, large selection of craft beer, and pub-inspired menu. Their wide artisan pizza selection focuses on global flavor combinations, including the California Sunrise (roasted chicken, peppered bacon, green goddess dressing, sliced avocado), Italian Job (pepperoni, salami, capicola, pepperoncinis, creamy herb vinaigrette), and tikka masala pie. The pork chile verde nachos and hearty spinach artichoke dip also deserve a spot at your table. The space includes patio seating, separated from the dining room by glass garage doors, which lift to combine the areas into an open-air dining concept in the warmer months." - Sarah Entwistle

Google
We ordered 3 pizzas for 3 of us and we ended with just a few slices leftover at the end. All three that we tried were great. We had a California Sunrise, a Gyro Trip, and the Hot Honey DP - different flavor palette for each but all tasty! They were all cooked nicely, and the crust was so good! We went for lunch so it was fairly busy but we still got a table quickly, our server was super nice and our food came pretty fast which was excellent. It was a bit noisy so sometimes hard to hear each other talk even at the same table but overall great experience!

Google
We had Jimmy as our server and he was such a delight. The pizza is the best thing there. My table got one of every pizza it seemed like and each one had a unique but great taste so you can’t go wrong on any pizza. There was live music, outdoor seating, fire pits outside when it was getting darker… just a great vibe overall and would recommend this place to anyone.

Aiden Burnside

Google
The pizza was really great, I even enjoyed just the plain crust with the quality that it was. I am going to have to go back to get a sandwich because they looked great. The staff here was very nice and the food got to our table quickly.

Google
Slackwater pizza is awesome. Light and fluffy crust right out the oven. But not quite Neapolitan fluffy. Tried the Iron Horse and This is Sparta. Both great flavor combos. Beer selection is out of control! It’s on a level where it can become hard to choose. The good news is there is plenty to try and worth coming back for.

Crystal Evans

Google
Jake was by far our best server we’ve ever had! Perfect timing at all times - we’ll be asking for his table going forward. The food is consistently solid, and the atmosphere is relaxed and fun. The calzones are especially worth mentioning--really flavorful and cooked just right. Definitely a Friday night place you could come, to unwind from the work week!

Google
I could write hundreds of paragraphs describing my love for Slackwater. The pizzas are perfect. My recommendations for some “basics” are the Hot Honey DP, the Italian Job, the Buffalo Chicken Pizza, or the Iron Horse. However, check out the menu because they have a lot of fun options! The Nate’s Buffalo wings are so good that it convinced my wife to give up being vegetarian. That sounds like an exaggeration but I swear that it’s true. Over 4 years of no meat and a buffalo wing at Slackwater changed it. THAT is how good they are. The monthly specials are fun, especially when they use an ingredient or flavor that you love! I once went 5 times in one month when their monthly special was all about peaches! The brunch is honestly worth trying too. All in all it’s a fun atmosphere, a good vibe, nice employees, and a great time!

Google
My partner and I went and had a amazing time! We ordered peach ale drink and a strawberry cocktail and they were really good! He had the Hawaiian pizza sub ham for pepperoni and I had the Hot Honey DP. They were both very good but I think he liked the Hot Honey DP a lot better because we spilt the leftovers HAHA :) it was a very fond and great memory thanks to this place. Service was great! Will be back, the pizza crust is sweet and yeasty and not too thin. I get the hype! Plenty of parking.

Google
First of all I’m not a fan of pets inside, I own them I love them but I believe you can leave them at home for an hour we came during the strawberry full moon to eat and howl… we got the strawberry pie and strawberry mimosas and strawberry beignets..we planned on strawberry wings as well but felt since it had same glaze as pizza it’d be too much but after trying pizza I don’t think so I think we should have..but went nachos that were great!!

Yelp
This is my new favorite restaurant. Artichoke spinach dip was plenty for our group of six, but could use a few more chips. My husband and I shared the Buffalo chicken sandwich, which was amazing with the salad, and The Hulk that was best pizza we have ever had. Our server was ontop of everything, checking in with us the perfect number of times, and our drinks were always full. Can't wait for our next performance at Hale Theatre that is only four minutes from Slackwater.

Christopher J.

Yelp
Service was prompt and always striving to make the experience fun for all. The food is delicious and you can mix it up every single time. Local music is perfect ambience.

Yelp
Nearly 5 years after my initial review, and Slackwater continues to dazzle with it's delectable food -- it's become my go-to recommendation for family and friends who are visiting from outside of Utah (which now includes myself). The California Sunrise and Iron Horse pizzas hit the spot on our last visit, and despite a very full restaurant, our orders were delivered quickly. 12/10 would recommend!

Yelp
Best pizza spot in SLC! This is my husband and my go-to date night spot. We love the Hot Honey DP and the You'll be stuffed Sticks and always order both! Slackwater also has a great selection of local beers, ciders, and sours which we are a big fan of. Whenever anyone comes to visit me in SLC, I take them to Slackwater. The vibe is so fun and sometimes they have live music which is one of my favorite things. I've always had great experience with service here as well. One time I didn't like my beer and they let me order a new one - so so nice!

Yelp
Always busy, but worth the wait. The food is really consistent and the waitstaff are young, but very attentive, and thorough. The beer selection is outstanding, and there is live music every week I believe. I've had pizzas and sandwiches at the Sandy location - all fantastic so far. I've had the Cobb salad, also good, but I don't feel like it has enough protein. As far as quality though - everything has been top notch. I'm from CA and have visited this location 4x now, and will always come back, it's a local favorite for sure. Pro tip: bars close early in the area, so get in early enough to beat the wait and if you're alone, grab a high top or seat at the bar. Drafts beers in UT are lower in alcohol, allowing you to sample more great local brew.

Yelp
I'm not sure why it took me 4 years to finally get to Slackwater. They have such unique pizza options, large beer selection, cool interior, and the food tasted great! The size of the half salad was large, the wings were the smallest I've ever seen but I think they gave more to make up for it and the wings were super unique. And you MUST get a side of their ranch. Best ranch I e ever had

Yelp
Always a favorite. Favorite go to pizza spot. Make sure to make reservations they get booked and busy.
google avatar

Yelp
Generally, great service, great food, variety, great drinks, and even though it's so busy, they always make you feel special.
google avatar

Yelp
Highly recommend getting on their waitlist as it gets packed! If you like pizza/beer this is the spot. They have your traditional pies and some nontraditional pies. I'd personally say nontraditional is the way to go. Ordered: Chicken Bro - 5/5 love the white sauce pizza paired with the tomatoes and broccoli tikka masala - 5/5 if you like tikka masala this is the pie for you and they do a great rendition of it! I will say it's super rich so def need another pie as a palate cleanser Iron horse 3/5 - after eating the other two..this one felt mid LOL maybe not as much flavor? It's still a good classic pie though.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is tucked away in the mall parking lot but oh my gosh is it delicious! My husband had a couple beers off their GIGANTIC menu and really liked all of them. We split the Hulk pizza and it was amazing. The service is prompt and polite! Our server was great. The restaurant is spotless and has a great ambiance. Will definitely be coming back if I am around SLC again!
google avatar

Shannon Y.

Yelp
This place is always packed for not so good pizza. I don't get it. I've really tried to like this place and the only great thing is the beer menu. Other than that I would rather go to pizza limone.
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
I have been to Slackwater many times. It is always clean, the food is always fun and served quickly and as ordered. The staff has always been great and attentive. When in the area I choose Slaxkwater over the other eating xhoices. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Some of the best pizza on the planet! A pizza place so popular that you need reservations?!! That's a first. I would go there just for their crust. So let's dig in... My favorite so far is the Iron Horse with its pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, etc. Such a great combination of flavors from quality ingredients. The first time we tried them it was strawberry season and their special was a strawberry pizza. No, not a desert pizza, but a pizza based on strawberries, there's a difference. And holy Kawasaki, Batman, it was a knock-your-socks-off palate experience! I wish it was a regular menu item. Since then, we've tried several of their specialty pies. All excellent! We've tried their deserts, all good, and the s'more cheesecake was incredible! The soups are great. I normally do not like fancy nachos, but their nachos are really tasty. And watch out for the Diablo bread sticks! You will use the spicy marinara to help extinguish the bread sticks! LOL Their hummus is some of the best I've ever had. Well, yes, everything there is top notch and you can't go wrong. I'm serious about their crust. There are no pizza bones left on anyone's plates. Eating the crust is like having another yummy entreé. The chew is just right, the flavor is perfect. They also have live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays. I went one night when a friend and colleague was performing, "KY and the Jellies." That was a fun night. The entertainment is not too loud to impede a conversation. Service is always polite and friendly. Empty plates cleared, drinks refilled. It is our go-to not only for pizza but for times when we just want to eat out. I heartily recommend you try the out if you haven't already. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

Yelp
It's just a really good and plentiful pizza. Artisan vibe. The servers were really friendly and there's a place for live music. Live music isn't really my thing at a restaurant, but maybe it's yours.
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
Solid pizza joint with tons of beer and overall great vibe after snowboarding! Everything is made fresh and full of flavor. Will definitely be back to try more signature pizzas!

Yelp
I don't toss out 5 star ratings often but when I do, I make sure the place I'm recommending touches all my bases. First and foremost, food is absolutely fire here. There's no other way to put it. They do a great job with their dishes and man was it tasty. Second part, the inside of this place is great. They have the perfect amount of lighting and the atmosphere makes for a good dinner whether with friends or family. Lastly, I'm a big service person. We had incredible service start to finish and they tended to us like we were their only customers in a packed house. I stand by Slackwater. Cheers!
google avatar

Jamie R.

Yelp
Food and service were top notch. The pizza was amazing and the pico was so fresh! It is SO loud in here that you aren't able to hear one another talk very well so be prepared. This place is popular!!
google avatar

Tina S.

Yelp
I really enjoyed brunch here with friends for our annual birthday meal. Eggs Benedict and mimosas, nom!!!! Very comfortable booth, clean, and great waiter. We had a reservation but it wasn't terribly busy when we went. It wasn't loud either.

Yelp
I had driven past Slackwater -many- times, and I had always been a bit stunned by the number of cars outside. This place seems to always be packed! So, my wife and I decided to see what all the hype was, and we're happy we did! The restaurant was BUSY this night, with people waiting for tables both inside and outside, and every table filled. Luckily we had joined the waitlist, so we only waited about 10 minutes for our table. The ambiance was great, as we were led by a bunch of tables filled with delicious looking food and happy looking people. It definitely built up our expectations of what was to come. Our waitress balanced the fine line of checking in on us regularly but not being annoying - an impressive feat when you've clearly got a lot of tables to be focused on. As for the food, Southern Comfort Redo, Hot Honey Pepperoni, and Diablo Sticks. Everything was really tasty, loaded with flavor. They also had a huge beer list, which is always a nice touch in Utah. We'll definitely be back!

Bridget M.

Yelp
Jak was incredible, took care of my GF needs and made it super positive for my birthday ( even though he had no idea)
google avatar

Yelp
Slackwater is simply the best! The service is always attentive, the food is divine (it might be a bit slow to come out, but that's because the place is busy and the food is quality food), the Cokes are fizzy, and the ambience is welcoming and friendly. The live music on some nights is a special treat. I especially recommend their chicken dishes. They even got me hooked on their divine mimosas. We love Slackwater!!
google avatar

Jackie A.

Yelp
The crust is my most favorite crust from anywhere, hands down. Love to order a crust with just oil, garlic, and herbs. Their wings are phenomenal also, and the gyro pizza is so unique.

Matthew S.

Yelp
Lots of unique pizza options you won't find any where else! I also appreciated the attention to detail--everything from the presentation to the friendly, fast service was top-notch. The vibe inside was relaxed and welcoming, perfect for grabbing a bite with friends or family.

Yelp
Next time you're craving pizza SKIP Slackwater. When I first moved to SLC and was looking got a good pizza place everyone told me try Slackwater, well I did, multiple times, and each time was disappointed. The dough tasted stale and yet somehow overcooked at the same time. The sauce was flavorless and I wanted to pick off most of the cheese but left it on because if I did I knew I'd be stuck with just the dough and sauce. I tired the Tatse like Burning speciality pie on my second visit and it was better BUT if you have to hide your pizza under a pile of toppings it's not good. If you can't serve a decent basic cheese pie you're automatically disqualified as a good pizza place. And to be honest it feels wrong calling this "pizza" pizza. Call it breadsticks or topped focaccia but please for the love of god stop calling it good pizza. You should walk away from eating pizza feeling light but fulfilled and every time I walk away from Slackwater I felt heavy and disappointed. I've been to Slackwater to two of the locations cause I really wanted to give it a chance but each time was let down. I think what also left a bad taste in my mouth is the staff. The staff at BOTH locations was rude and didn't look or act like they wanted to be there. It honestly felt like it was an inconvenience for them each time they had to check on the table. The one star on this review goes to the restaurants ambiance. It truly feels like a fun place to hangout with your friend and grab a beer. I would just get pizza on the way to the bar instead. Now this is just my opinion (and everyone is entitled to one) but I also think folks are entitled to GOOD pizza.
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
Wow! The best pizza I've had in SLC so far. First, logistically the Sandy location is easy to find and ample parking. Lots of seating and our server was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. The pizza is the star here! They're smaller, so try a few different flavors! The crust is a perfect balance of crunchy and chewy. Toppings were super fresh and evenly distributed. I can't wait to come back and try more!
google avatar

Erika M.

Yelp
Honestly, Slackwater slays and you can't tell me different. Delicious pizza. Lots of seating. You will find a wait some busy evenings, because the food is that good. But rest assured, the food will come out quickly once you're seated. And it'll be worth it.
google avatar

Lindsey S.

Yelp
We got here around 3:30 on a Saturday and didn't get seated for at least 35 minutes. The hostess wouldn't give us a wait time when we asked, and there were a few groups similar size to ours that came after us and were seated before us. We tried to call ahead but were told we couldn't make a reservation. Once we were seated, the waitress was impatient and not very helpful. We had to flag down other waiters to help us because our waitress was nowhere to be seen. The music was also so loud that I couldn't hear people at my own table. Once we ordered, the pizza was delicious and at our table quickly, but in the future, I would probably go to a different location and hope for better service.

Yelp
Our visit to Slackwater Sandy's was one of the most embarrassing and unprofessional restaurant experiences I've ever had. We walked in as a party of five and were crammed into a table way too small. We tried to make it work. Our waitress came by almost immediately and asked for drinks and appetizers before we even had a chance to open the menu. When she came back and we still weren't ready -- we were mid-conversation -- she clearly became annoyed and told us to just "put our menus on the edge of the table" when we finally decided. Uncalled for, but we moved on. We eventually ordered, but about an hour into our visit, a second woman -- a manager, I assume -- suddenly came out and confronted us. She asked if we had "been spoken to by previous managers." We were confused until she informed one of our party that he was being "86'd." No explanation, no warning -- just aggressive energy. When he calmly asked for a reason, she couldn't give one. He explained that during his last visit, a busboy snatched food out of his daughter's hand -- a completely inappropriate move that anyone would be upset about. Rather than listening or showing an ounce of professionalism, she started shaking, raised her voice, and demanded we leave. We hadn't even received all of our food, yet they brought the full bill. No offer to box up what hadn't arrived. No items removed. No apology. Just blatant hostility. We walked out with two children crying from hunger and embarrassment. This restaurant humiliated our family and made zero effort to de-escalate or act like professionals. Breweries are everywhere. Slackwater offers nothing special in terms of food, service, or atmosphere -- unless you're into public humiliation and hostility. We're locals and will be warning others to stay far away. Thanks for the warm welcome to Utah, Slackwater.

Yelp
The pizza, calzones, service, and beer are excellent. I've been here with my family of four 6-7 times and each visit has been 5 stars
google avatar

Brandon D.

Yelp
My family was on a road trip and decided to stay the night in Salt Lake City. We decided to have lunch at slack water. The place was packed during lunch, we were able to get seated very quickly though. Even though we were sitting inside, we had a nice view of the mountains surrounding the city. Our server was nice and gave us recommendations of what to order, as well as things to do in the city. We got the southern comfort, tikka masala, and California sunrise pizzas. They bring out the pizzas very fast here. All of them were good but my favorite was the California sunrise, followed by the southern comfort. The crust was very delicious as well. We also got their char tipped roasted pork chili verde nachos. The nachos were hugeeeee and tasted good. Ur I felt it was lacking in salsa and spice. We got roasted jalapeños and they definitely elevated the nachos. They forgot our tikka masala by only 10 minutes but they comped it for us too
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
This would have been 5 stars but we called ahead and was told that we didn't need a reservation as there was no wait. When we arrived 10 min later there was a 30-40 min wait. Beyond that we had a party of 7. The service was great and friendly. The food was good and worth the wait.
google avatar

Gale D.

Yelp
Highly recommended by engineers at the company I was visiting in South Jordan. I was there for an early dinner to watch my daughter's softball game on my iPad while sipping some brews and enjoying the awesome Tikkachu pizza with additional jalapeños and the cook's recommended pairing of Indian Smokey Ghost Pepper sauce (Naagin). Bartender was very helpful recommending locally brewed Templin Family IPA. Will definitely come back here next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Vanessa W.

Yelp
Food is so good! Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time since they get pretty busy. They have a few big fire pits outside to keep you warm while you wait. This is a family favorite.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
Good food. The "Italian Job" is delicious! Friendly, helpful staff. Way too loud. Don't come here to talk, particularly if your group is large.
google avatar

Denneane C.

Yelp
I'd come back just for the swatch YourGarlic Breath appetizer!I LOVE roasted garlic. If you haven't tried roasted garlic you are missing out. Roasting it takes all the bite out of it and you're left with creamy deliciousness. The California Sunrise pizza is just the right combination of chicken, bacon and avocado. So good! Cool, laid back, family friendly atmosphere. We were here for lunch but some evenings have live music as well as the great food. Service was prompt and friendly. Easy access with plenty of parking. We will return when in the area.

Sam C.

Yelp
We've been coming here. Every Sunday spending $400 a week for over five years Sandy We waited 40 minutes when there was no one here they wouldn't see this until our party of eight came. There's always a party of a party of seven every week. I asked three times they were rude and said no I asked for the they said no we could've had drinks and party was helping someone fix a flat tire no matter what we said they would not three of us. Sorry to say but a super regular will never come back ever.
google avatar

L D.

Yelp
Another incredible experience at Slackwater. This establishment is ALWAYS busy and I highly recommend adding yourself to the waitlist on yelp.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
The environment here is pretty fun! Very friendly staff and the food isn't weird home to mama, but it's good! However... the beer selection is beyond anything!!!
google avatar

Jacob B.

Yelp
I love pizza and I love sandwiches. Both are spectacular here. I don't drink beer. I drink beer here. I love you Slackwater and I know you love me too.

Chet B.

Yelp
Slackwater in Sandy always has outstanding food, an inviting setting and background. Our server, Jack, was so helpful and kind. We will return again and again!!
google avatar

Brianna M.

Yelp
What a fun and different spot in Utah. This pizza was amazing! I loved the fusion of Indian and pizza. Service was great and I would love to go back.
google avatar

Brittany K.

Yelp
Slackwater was very good. The music they played was great and the restaurant was very pretty. The pizza was really good. The crust is a lot thinner than what I'm used too, but it was still good! We also had a side of meatballs that were great. Our server Jak was very helpful and attentive.
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
Great experience, went for lunch the food was amazing. The service was good! Vibrant fun atmosphere! Had the special wings, hot honey pepperoni pizza, cheese bread and house salad! All were delicious
google avatar

James G.

Yelp
Was in the area for business, not too long ago, and was looking for someplace a little different with a little more variety on their menu discovered this place and what a great time I had. Ended up with the pizza and it was fantastic artisan style with perfect charred crust on the edges and toppings were planning the server was extremely nice. It took good care of me. If you can get your name out ahead of time before you get there, it's definitely gonna help as there were a ton of people waiting to get in on a weekday.
google avatar

Natalie B.

Yelp
Love how this place is always so consistent. We come here all the time! The menu has the perfect amount of variety and their seasonal / monthly specials are also incredible!
google avatar

Nasser ..

Yelp
There are many options and they have one of the best beer menu in town. Music is a bit loud but I like it.
google avatar

Bart C.

Yelp
The word is out about this place! Expect to wait for a seat. Join the "wait line" on Yelp and pay attention to it because it's surprisingly accurate. Food was Great and the staff was very friendly and attentive.
google avatar

Carissa P.

Yelp
My husband, my dad and I come here every time we visit SLC. Great selection of beers and delicious pizza! Seriously the best pizza! It gets crowded because the place is popular but you can usually get in with a short wait. Comfortable environment, the bar area has TVs for sports. My favorites - California Sunrise (light & delicious, the sauce is amazing) & Tikka Masala (if you like Indian food this is top notch!) My husbands favorites -Hot Honey Pepperoni (he gets it every time, with extra hot honey) My dad's favorites - This is Sparta (Greek with olives & sausage) or Grape & Gorgeous for those who like sweet and savory. Service is always amazing. Very friendly staff, they are great at recommending beer options for you if you want to try something new.

Yelp
This was a refreshing new restaurant, we have been a few times now and really enjoyed the portion size and the variety on the menu. The ambience is great sometimes you will find live music and the pizza is really tasty. You can find a cup of soup for under five dollars and reasonably priced salads. We will definitely be back.
