The 28 Best Salt Lake City Restaurants - Eater

"This locally owned and operated restaurant started in Ogden and recently opened its latest outpost in Industry SLC, an adaptive reuse office space in the trendy Granary District. Loyal customers know Slackwater for its live music, large selection of craft beer, and pub-inspired menu. Their wide artisan pizza selection focuses on global flavor combinations, including the California Sunrise (roasted chicken, peppered bacon, green goddess dressing, sliced avocado), Italian Job (pepperoni, salami, capicola, pepperoncinis, creamy herb vinaigrette), and tikka masala pie. The pork chile verde nachos and hearty spinach artichoke dip also deserve a spot at your table. The space includes patio seating, separated from the dining room by glass garage doors, which lift to combine the areas into an open-air dining concept in the warmer months." - Sarah Entwistle

The calzone was pretty good. I tried the Ironhorse. With marinara sauce. It was filled with lots of ricotta type cheese. I wanted it to have more pepperoni or sausage. It was a big portion. Pretty descent. My friend got the The nachos. They had very little meat and a few black beans haha the chips are thin and get soggy quick. The chili sauce seemed more like blended chick peas consistency. Not the best. But I don't recommend. Service was great..Blake was patient and attentive. He had some good recommendations for ciders and sauces.

Google
Wow! That Spicey Honey Double Pepperoni is incredible! Just enough heat and amazing flavor. It's no wonder this pizza joint is popular. Even my "Pizza is meh" wife loved their pies! That's a first!!

Google
The restaurant was clean. We got a table right away. The waitress (Breezy) was very informative and answered our questions. The food was great. One item that we ordered was late getting to us, they gave it to us for free. They also gave us some chips, salsa and guacamole while waiting for the Calzone. We ordered Spin-art Dip, Pua’a Luau Calzone, Hot Honey DP Pizza, Thanksgiving Dinner Pizza Style. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. It was a birthday and they gave us Apple-Oates Beignets and they were very good. They have monthly items that are good.

Google
We have been to the downtown slackwater and loved it so we decided to try this one in Sandy. It was really busy. We went on a Friday night at 8 and had a party of 10. They got us seated in about 45 minutes. The service was great and the food was delicious. We got the stuffed bread sticks and I tried the Cuban pizza which was good. I should’ve gone with the spicy honey pizza. That was better. All of their pizzas are good.

Google
Great vibe! Food was excellent. We each had the French Onion soup and then we shared Nachos and Caprese Salad. The Caprese Salad reminded us more of Bruschetta.

Google
Not too bad. The spinach and artichoke dip was not very good, and it didn't come out good. 😅 I'll have to try a different appetizer next time. The pizza was good and matched the price. The beer was pretty great, probably my favorite part of coming here.

Andrea H.

Google
Best Pizza I’ve had in a long time! Busy but quick service. Excellent servers! A person in our party had a dairy allergy and they made sure they had non-dairy cheese and regular crust because the gluten free crust has milk in it. The server also made sure the pumpkin sauce to the beignets was in the side with the whipped cream because it had milk in it too. It’s a happening place so it’s a bit noisy. Highly recommend!!!

Google
Slackwater in Sandy is truly one of my favorite places to eat. My son, daughter and I absolutely love coming here and the food, the pizzas, and the drinks are always spot on. Every visit feels enjoyable, and we always leave happy and satisfied. Even when I’ve gone with family, the experience has been just as amazing. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service is great, and the food is consistently delicious. If you’re looking for a place with great vibes and even better food, Slackwater never disappoints!

Yelp
Had a great meal and enjoyed the live music from Mark dee! Really good atmosphere. We had the California Sunrise and Nates Buffalo wings.

Noya H.

Yelp
This place is always packed. We'll worth the wait. Food delicious. Just try anything you won't be disappointed. Try coming on a Friday night for the live music

Candice B.

Yelp
The food here is so good and there are so many options. We have picky eaters in my family and everyone loves the food here.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing dinner at Slackwater. Traveling from Cleveland, Ohio and my group stumbled upon Slackwater for dinner. Amazing, robust menu, pleasant knowledge service and absolutely delicious food! I had the butternut squash soup and butternut special pizza. YUM! I'll be back!!

Yelp
We came with a group of six on a Wednesday evening and only waited around 15 minutes, which was nice. Our waitress was wonderful, super friendly and welcoming. I ordered the California Sunrise and liked it. My husband enjoyed his Iron Horse pizza, and everyone else seemed happy with their meals. However, we specifically chose this spot because they offer gluten-free options, and two of our friends are gluten-free, including one with serious celiac disease. Unfortunately, he got sick about an hour later, likely from cross-contamination. It was really disappointing and potentially dangerous for someone with severe celiac, so just something to be aware of if that applies to you. I really hope the restaurant takes better precautions in the future.

Yelp
If you're looking for good pizza - go here. Oh my gosh. This was exactly the type of place I was hoping to find during a quick work trip to SLC. Found thru Apple Maps and after looking at the menu, decided to try for myself. The flavors here are so good! I ordered the pumpkin gochujang wings which were a good combo of sweet and salty. I kinda wish all the wings were consistent in size (a couple of mine were puny) but its fine for the price IMO. PIZZA: I went for the Italian Job and per my bartenders rec, added feta (JUST DO IT). Holy pizza! This is like the perfect Italian sub (pubsub IYKYK) but in pizza form. I will dream about this pizza until I can return back to SLC.

Yelp
This place knows how to do pizzas! I thought the crust and the taste of the dough was so good! I also loved how unique the flavors were! These pizzas are to die for! The service was also super nice! This is a fun place to come to hang out with friends and get a good pizza! I will be coming back!

Yelp
I was in the area for work and learned just how busy and popular this place is! Granted we had a large party (they looked like they accommodated a lot of large parties), but even with how busy it was we only had to wait about 15 minutes on a Wednesday. They have a lot of great beer and cider options, either on top or bottled. I noticed they even had one of my local favorites from where I live back in the California, the Cali Squeeze! But I had to try something new so I got a tasty cucumber cider. This place definitely has to be known for its pizzas, as the entire back side of the menu has at least 20+ different pizza combos. But if those aren't enough to choose form, you can also make your own! I was having a hard time choosing but ultimately went with the Buffalo Chicken Pizza. It was pretty tasty, and if I come here while in town again, I'll definitely try out one of their other pizza options.

Yelp
absolutely love their hot honey and tikkachu pizzas!! crust is crispy, fluffy, and amazing!!

Yelp
Slackwater has a cult following for a reason. Every location I've been to is constantly packed! These guys have mastered amazing food, and always provide the best customer service. Anytime our family from out of state is visiting for the holidays, they demand we eat at Slackwater at least once. I wasn't sure about their brunch at first, but it is just as good as their regular menu. We tend to get the French toast as a starter for the table. Breakfast pizza is mouth watering delicious. High quality Bloody Mary and multiple types of mimosas to choose from.

Yelp
Atmosphere was nice and fresh. Pizza was good. Staff nice and friendly. Pizza probably a 7.4 and that's pretty good. Would try again

Yelp
Nearly 5 years after my initial review, and Slackwater continues to dazzle with it's delectable food -- it's become my go-to recommendation for family and friends who are visiting from outside of Utah (which now includes myself). The California Sunrise and Iron Horse pizzas hit the spot on our last visit, and despite a very full restaurant, our orders were delivered quickly. 12/10 would recommend!
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
Best pizza spot in SLC! This is my husband and my go-to date night spot. We love the Hot Honey DP and the You'll be stuffed Sticks and always order both! Slackwater also has a great selection of local beers, ciders, and sours which we are a big fan of. Whenever anyone comes to visit me in SLC, I take them to Slackwater. The vibe is so fun and sometimes they have live music which is one of my favorite things. I've always had great experience with service here as well. One time I didn't like my beer and they let me order a new one - so so nice!
google avatar

Aubri M.

Yelp
Overall it was wonderful and we will be back. I'm docking a star because our server was basically nonexistent. Which makes sense because they were absolutely packed. Tons of people. Maybe they were understaffed? Or need more staff in general. The food was all delicious. We got the Cheesy breadsticks with ricotta. Yum! My kids got a cheese pizza. My husband got a calzone and he loved it. The pizza crust specifically was incredible. My pizza had olives, artichoke and feta. I felt it was overly salty. It was good overall but next time I will probably pick a different pizza. Their sausage was very yummy. The atmosphere was fun, lots of the restaurant had big spaces to the outdoors which was nice, and their decoration fit the vibe.

Yelp
I'm not sure why it took me 4 years to finally get to Slackwater. They have such unique pizza options, large beer selection, cool interior, and the food tasted great! The size of the half salad was large, the wings were the smallest I've ever seen but I think they gave more to make up for it and the wings were super unique. And you MUST get a side of their ranch. Best ranch I e ever had
google avatar

Yelp
The specials at slackwater never disappoint! Im planning to go again this month JUST FOR THE GINGYS REVENGE BEIGNETS!!! Seriously amazing food everytime!
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
I love everything about this place! Pizza fantastic, wings delicious. I especially like that I can check in online.

Shelley B.

Yelp
We had the Hawaiian Pizza . It is the best pizza we've had in quite some time. They carry 2 of Offset's beer. Our server, Melinda(?) was very pleasant and attentive. My husband found the noise level to be uncomfortable for him, he wears hearing aids. I wasn't bothered. Busy but service & food weren't lacking .
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
I love Slackwater. Their food is so good. I love their pizza dough, it's got a tiny hint of sweetness to it that just tastes so good to me. Great drink selection, and I love that they always have sangria on the menu!!
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
We absolutely love Slackwater! Any chance we get we like to stop by. I've tried quite a few of their pizzas and my favorite is easily the tikkachu. The service has always been extremely friendly and quick and we also love that they have dairy free cheese since my wife can't have dairy. If you've got the pizza craving give Slackwater a shot!
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
Highly recommend getting on their waitlist as it gets packed! If you like pizza/beer this is the spot. They have your traditional pies and some nontraditional pies. I'd personally say nontraditional is the way to go. Ordered: Chicken Bro - 5/5 love the white sauce pizza paired with the tomatoes and broccoli tikka masala - 5/5 if you like tikka masala this is the pie for you and they do a great rendition of it! I will say it's super rich so def need another pie as a palate cleanser Iron horse 3/5 - after eating the other two..this one felt mid LOL maybe not as much flavor? It's still a good classic pie though.

Yelp
When we showed up, there were probably 20 people outside waiting. They were totally slammed on a random Wednesday night. I was super glad we had a reservation. Despite being slammed they provided great service and were attentive all night. Scotty and Cassidy helped us and they were both awesome. The menu is super fun with a lot of unique pizzas. We got the gyro trip and tikkachu and both were amazing. My husband normally doesn't eat his crust and he said he would eat just the crust from slackwater. The vibes inside were super fun and they opened the big windows which made it super fun. They also do monthly specials which I think is fun. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Love love love their hummus appetizer so much! The pita bread is soft and warm, and that hummus is so well flavored! I love the Mac and cheese pizza or the California green goddess one or their all meat carnivore one! Honestly everything I've tried here has been great and I haven't had a single thing I did not enjoy. Their live music days are always lovely and the artists are great at setting a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Staff is super friendly and always has suggestions if you need it. Drinks are also great and they have a very nice selection of brews to go with the pizza!
google avatar

Brittney B.

Yelp
This was my first time here. I didn't do the best at getting pictures because I was in the moment. I got the honey hot pepperoni and it was delicious. I liked the portion size as well. It was super crowded and I felt that the waiters had to large of areas to properly help each table. Our waiter was nice, but you could tell he was super busy and couldn't give us his full attention. They had a lot of seating, but too crowded and loud to say much more about the ambiance of the place. I did manage to snag a picture of my friends pizza that she got to go.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a great find when we were traveling in Salt Lake City. We went there to watch some football, it was where the hotel staff recommended we go. We sat in the bar, it was very nice. The patios look nice as well. We ordered a pizza called the Tikkachu that was a take on Tikka Masala, it was amazing! Great food, great service and clean and modern atmosphere. Check, check, check.
google avatar

Megan K.

Yelp
I have been here an embarrassing amount of times, with different people and for different events. The staff are always up front and accommodating whenever possible with wait time and service. The specials are always a good option, and their classics are solid. I will keep coming back again and again and think I will continue to be pleased. Throw a dart at the menu and you'll probably be happy with what you get (unless you're a picky eater, then maybe read the menu).
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
Everyone asks why Slackwater is constantly packed, but then they go see for themselves and they answer their own question. Slackwater is delicious! They have an extensive beer list. There's not anything like it nearby. Great beers, great pizza. Great prices. Great service. Happy waitstaff. The sandwiches/wraps are also fantastic, fresh and delicious side salads, and the mulligatawny soup was just delightful. I recommend joining the waiting list through the Yelp app, that way you can finish getting ready/picking up your date and then you roll in just as your table is ready. It's pretty sweet, and it definitely beats hanging out outside the building for 20-45 minutes. :)
google avatar

Rini J.

Yelp
Our server was lovely and the menu had a good selection of pizzas and appetizers. The dessert was just okay due to the fact that it's very carb heavy to have after all that pizza. The pizzas were incredible and I enjoyed that they weren't too greasy to eat. Definitely coming back here next time I'm in Utah!

Yelp
Some of the best pizza on the planet! A pizza place so popular that you need reservations?!! That's a first. I would go there just for their crust. So let's dig in... My favorite so far is the Iron Horse with its pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, etc. Such a great combination of flavors from quality ingredients. The first time we tried them it was strawberry season and their special was a strawberry pizza. No, not a desert pizza, but a pizza based on strawberries, there's a difference. And holy Kawasaki, Batman, it was a knock-your-socks-off palate experience! I wish it was a regular menu item. Since then, we've tried several of their specialty pies. All excellent! We've tried their deserts, all good, and the s'more cheesecake was incredible! The soups are great. I normally do not like fancy nachos, but their nachos are really tasty. And watch out for the Diablo bread sticks! You will use the spicy marinara to help extinguish the bread sticks! LOL Their hummus is some of the best I've ever had. Well, yes, everything there is top notch and you can't go wrong. I'm serious about their crust. There are no pizza bones left on anyone's plates. Eating the crust is like having another yummy entreé. The chew is just right, the flavor is perfect. They also have live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays. I went one night when a friend and colleague was performing, "KY and the Jellies." That was a fun night. The entertainment is not too loud to impede a conversation. Service is always polite and friendly. Empty plates cleared, drinks refilled. It is our go-to not only for pizza but for times when we just want to eat out. I heartily recommend you try the out if you haven't already. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!
google avatar

Trevor H.

Yelp
Slackware continues to be one of my top restaurant choices. It stays busy for a reason. Great food, chill environment, and great service. I snagged the Hot Honey DP calzone and it did not disappoint. Something about all the melted cheese and pepperoni smothered in honey and dipped in ranch or marinara is heavenly.
google avatar

Yelp
What a popular place to visit!! We walked in around 5pm on a Monday night and stood in line to get seated. We were able to get seated right away outside which we didn't mind as it was in the shade and under an umbrella. Sometimes Utah in July can get a bit toasty! Our waitress was very attentive and sweet to walk over the most popular menu items with us. The Check Your Garlic Breath was incredible!! They over served the amount of Gorgonzola cream cheese as we had a TON left over - we should have asked for more of that delicious house made toasted focaccia. The pizza was incredible. Their dough has this hint of sweetness to it that makes you want to keep going in for more! I have never had avocado on a pizza, and now I don't want pizza any other way. Such a fun, vibrant and busy place to dine at!
google avatar

Aaron V.

Yelp
I don't toss out 5 star ratings often but when I do, I make sure the place I'm recommending touches all my bases. First and foremost, food is absolutely fire here. There's no other way to put it. They do a great job with their dishes and man was it tasty. Second part, the inside of this place is great. They have the perfect amount of lighting and the atmosphere makes for a good dinner whether with friends or family. Lastly, I'm a big service person. We had incredible service start to finish and they tended to us like we were their only customers in a packed house. I stand by Slackwater. Cheers!

Kelly F.

Yelp
The food and the service were so good! I especially love the lasagna that is unfortunately only on the seasonal menu! I would love if they added it to the regular menu all year! My partner is a huge fan of the wings too!
google avatar

Jeff G.

Yelp
I had driven past Slackwater -many- times, and I had always been a bit stunned by the number of cars outside. This place seems to always be packed! So, my wife and I decided to see what all the hype was, and we're happy we did! The restaurant was BUSY this night, with people waiting for tables both inside and outside, and every table filled. Luckily we had joined the waitlist, so we only waited about 10 minutes for our table. The ambiance was great, as we were led by a bunch of tables filled with delicious looking food and happy looking people. It definitely built up our expectations of what was to come. Our waitress balanced the fine line of checking in on us regularly but not being annoying - an impressive feat when you've clearly got a lot of tables to be focused on. As for the food, Southern Comfort Redo, Hot Honey Pepperoni, and Diablo Sticks. Everything was really tasty, loaded with flavor. They also had a huge beer list, which is always a nice touch in Utah. We'll definitely be back!

Bruce F.

Yelp
Just beat the crowd and were seated immediately arriving at 7 on a Monday night. Great atmosphere and not too loud for a full restaurant. Lovely attitude by the hostess and servers. I chose the Iron Horse which was excellent with great toppings and an east coast crust. Ate it all up. My wife had the California pizza which was very green, filled with spinach and avocado. Not for me but she liked it. She also ate a couple of my slices.

Edward D.

Yelp
This place is always good. The pizzas and calzones are so good. Food is delicious. There is a wait time sometimes, but it's because the food and drinks are worth it. Shout out to Brian, our server. So nice and helpful every time we get him. Would recommend.
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
Solid pizza joint with tons of beer and overall great vibe after snowboarding! Everything is made fresh and full of flavor. Will definitely be back to try more signature pizzas!

Yelp
Whenever i come here i always have such a pleasant experience. The Staff, vibes, and food are amazing.

Yelp
Wow! The best pizza I've had in SLC so far. First, logistically the Sandy location is easy to find and ample parking. Lots of seating and our server was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. The pizza is the star here! They're smaller, so try a few different flavors! The crust is a perfect balance of crunchy and chewy. Toppings were super fresh and evenly distributed. I can't wait to come back and try more!
google avatar

Katelyn B.

Yelp
Food was delicious! We got a couple different pizzas to try, we got the ranch to go with it and the ranch was so good! Will definitely be back at some point

Yelp
Next time you're craving pizza SKIP Slackwater. When I first moved to SLC and was looking got a good pizza place everyone told me try Slackwater, well I did, multiple times, and each time was disappointed. The dough tasted stale and yet somehow overcooked at the same time. The sauce was flavorless and I wanted to pick off most of the cheese but left it on because if I did I knew I'd be stuck with just the dough and sauce. I tired the Tatse like Burning speciality pie on my second visit and it was better BUT if you have to hide your pizza under a pile of toppings it's not good. If you can't serve a decent basic cheese pie you're automatically disqualified as a good pizza place. And to be honest it feels wrong calling this "pizza" pizza. Call it breadsticks or topped focaccia but please for the love of god stop calling it good pizza. You should walk away from eating pizza feeling light but fulfilled and every time I walk away from Slackwater I felt heavy and disappointed. I've been to Slackwater to two of the locations cause I really wanted to give it a chance but each time was let down. I think what also left a bad taste in my mouth is the staff. The staff at BOTH locations was rude and didn't look or act like they wanted to be there. It honestly felt like it was an inconvenience for them each time they had to check on the table. The one star on this review goes to the restaurants ambiance. It truly feels like a fun place to hangout with your friend and grab a beer. I would just get pizza on the way to the bar instead. Now this is just my opinion (and everyone is entitled to one) but I also think folks are entitled to GOOD pizza.
google avatar

Jamie R.

Yelp
Food and service were top notch. The pizza was amazing and the pico was so fresh! It is SO loud in here that you aren't able to hear one another talk very well so be prepared. This place is popular!!

Yelp
My family was on a road trip and decided to stay the night in Salt Lake City. We decided to have lunch at slack water. The place was packed during lunch, we were able to get seated very quickly though. Even though we were sitting inside, we had a nice view of the mountains surrounding the city. Our server was nice and gave us recommendations of what to order, as well as things to do in the city. We got the southern comfort, tikka masala, and California sunrise pizzas. They bring out the pizzas very fast here. All of them were good but my favorite was the California sunrise, followed by the southern comfort. The crust was very delicious as well. We also got their char tipped roasted pork chili verde nachos. The nachos were hugeeeee and tasted good. Ur I felt it was lacking in salsa and spice. We got roasted jalapeños and they definitely elevated the nachos. They forgot our tikka masala by only 10 minutes but they comped it for us too
google avatar

Brandon G.

Yelp
Great pizza!!! And beer selection staff is friendly. I dine here on date night often.
google avatar

Brighton F.

Yelp
Food was cheek licking good or finger slapping or however the kids talk these days. I loved it is what I'm trying to say. Just went to the car museum across the way. Mustang Sally if you're with us I want the white soft top and the black soft top with the red interior. I love you mustang sally.
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
This would have been 5 stars but we called ahead and was told that we didn't need a reservation as there was no wait. When we arrived 10 min later there was a 30-40 min wait. Beyond that we had a party of 7. The service was great and friendly. The food was good and worth the wait.
google avatar

Nicole J.

Yelp
We had a nice lunch here! The double pepperoni pizza was tasty, with a crispy crust that added the perfect touch. Our server was kind and attentive, and the restaurant had a lively, welcoming atmosphere.
google avatar

Silvia G.

Yelp
This place is tucked away in the mall parking lot but oh my gosh is it delicious! My husband had a couple beers off their GIGANTIC menu and really liked all of them. We split the Hulk pizza and it was amazing. The service is prompt and polite! Our server was great. The restaurant is spotless and has a great ambiance. Will definitely be coming back if I am around SLC again!
google avatar

Denneane C.

Yelp
I'd come back just for the swatch YourGarlic Breath appetizer!I LOVE roasted garlic. If you haven't tried roasted garlic you are missing out. Roasting it takes all the bite out of it and you're left with creamy deliciousness. The California Sunrise pizza is just the right combination of chicken, bacon and avocado. So good! Cool, laid back, family friendly atmosphere. We were here for lunch but some evenings have live music as well as the great food. Service was prompt and friendly. Easy access with plenty of parking. We will return when in the area.
