How America’s Lesbian Bars Are Surviving a Pandemic | Eater

"A longtime lesbian bar in Columbus that survived the initial lockdown on takeout pizza, it was slated to reopen June 2 but sustained severe damage during local uprisings; a former manager launched a GoFundMe for repairs and the venue was able to reopen on June 12. The general manager, Andrew Parnell, emphasized strict safety measures — spaced tables, patio seating, and zero-tolerance enforcement for rule violations — while the bar also amplified fundraisers for the Columbus Freedom Fund." - Meghan McCarron

Google
Pickle pizza was incredible. Some of the best cheese I’ve had on a pizza, crust bubbles all over, perfect amount of dill and pickles. Honestly one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had.

Google
Loovveeee this local bar, one of the few lesbian bars in the US, but of course inclusive! Can always come for the chill weekday vibe or fun weekend energy, love you Slammers! ps pizza is bomb

Google
A great welcoming space for the LGBTQIA+! Trivia night was fun, food and drinks were great. Next time I'm visiting Columbus, ill be sure to stop here again.

Google
The best bar I've been as a single woman. No one bothered me in any capacity like at a "normal" bar. The first time I've been out at a bar by myself and it was a good experience! All of the bartenders were kind and friendly.

I have been given recommendations that I should visit here, for quite awhile. I tried over Pride weekend, but it was too crowded and there was a line to enter. But, I knew this weekend would be different. I was at the convention center for an event, and decided to head to Slammers for a late lunch. The weather was decent and it was a nice 10-15 minute walk from the Hyatt Regency end of the convention center. It looks like an old neighborhood bar, with decent sized interior and exterior spaces. I ordered my usual well gin and tonic, and studied the menu. Good selection of appetizers and sandwiches. But I got intrigued by one of their specialty pizzas, The Bobbi. The usual sauce and cheese, but the other toppings were bacon, pineapple and sliced jalapenos. I am an adventurous diner, and looking for different tastes, and the sweet heat of this pizza really thrilled me. Drink price seemed on the high end, but I was served "tall" drinks, and I felt like I was drinking doubles, afterwards. So no complaint there, just you may have to pay more attention to how many drinks you are actually being served.

Google
What a great, friendly bar. Mindy the bartender was so friendly and offered lots helpful local suggestions since I had never been to Columbus except to fly out of the airport. Very clean, great selection of liquor and beer, playing college football. The food was great and the customers were all friendly and social. Awesome place!

Google
Marcia told me I should go because the pizza was the best. I finally got there and she wasn't wrong! The atmosphere was great, service was friendly and awesome, and might be my new favorite pizza in Columbus.

Calavera Candy

Google
Wonderful bar. Great staff, great patrons, great pizza. Just top tier.

Yelp
This is going to be a must stop every time I come to Columbus! The atmosphere was welcoming to EVERYONE and was super inclusive! The staff were super friendly and really helpful! Everything we ordered tasted fresh and made in house! My friend ordered 2 coney dogs, mozzarella sticks, and cheesecake and she said she loved everything! I ordered the hot bee pizza, mozzarella sticks, and a homewrecker. Everything I had was amazing! The drink said it was for 2 people, which would be accurate if you wanted to share it. I drank it by myself as my only drink for the night and it was delicious! It didn't taste too boozy- which made it dangerous. Overall- I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Service was kind and quick. We came for trivia night and had a blast. All the food our table ordered was good. I got the italian sub -- very tasty but desperately needed more dressing. I would recommend asking for extra / on the side. The bar looked clean and well looked after. People were respectful and kind. And parking was easy, what more could you want.

Yelp
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, the service is horrible. My gf and I went there and we were clearly discriminated against. The bartenders kept brushing us off in favor of the gays that were at the bar. Shame as you always hear the gays preach inclusion, but truthfully they don't have the love they claim. It's very sad, but this is the harsh reality of this establishment and many others like it. The pizza was the only good part of everything.

Yelp
I wanted to check this place out since I heard it was a lesbian bar. We came here on a Sunday afternoon to watch football, drink beers and have some pizza. This place is super chill and the pizza was good. No complaints.

Yelp
I came here for my friend's birthday!! It was such amazing vibes!! I wish the location was more centralized..but it was awesome. I loved the lights, the bartenders, the fun shots. I couldn't have asked for a more great night here. I didn't try the food..but I bet I will next time!!

J M.

Yelp
Wandered in on a Sunday night and stayed for the wings and karaoke! Service was great and everyone was super friendly. We will be back!

Yelp
Longest standing lesbian owned and operated bar in the heart of downtown Columbus, Ohio. Really chill vibes and family friendly on the weekends (brunch, pet events, etc). The crowd is diverse and chill. They have special music nights and life performances. Drinks are cheap and you can play darts or connect four. Great spot to come after dinner or to chill on the weekend in the outdoor seating area.

Yelp
Best pizza in Columbus! Service is always top notch and the place itself couldn't be better. Very welcoming and inclusive. Trivia nights are top tier and everyone there is just happy to be there and have a good time.

Yelp
I'm so glad I was finally able to give Slammers a try. I was specifically looking for pizza delivery just after midnight. They aren't too far away so it was quick and easy to order. I ordered a medium cheese pizza, plain and simple, and it arrived within about 40 minutes. This made me really happy after a late night thanks to seeing a band at Express Live. I really loved the sauce, it was a little sweet but not overwhelming. It also had the perfect amount of sauce and the crust held up nicely. It was thin, but not crunchy thin. Just a wee bit softer than that. The leftovers were delicious the next day! I am already certain that I will order here again and if I ever get the chance I'll swing by in person. If you didn't know, they are one of the remaining twenty one lesbian bars in the country. It's open all and a safe space for the LGBTQIA community. This makes me so happy and to see that they've navigated COVID and are back open, is amazing.
google avatar

Sujal M.

Yelp
My partner and I came here for a specific reason. She is vegan, and I like trying new places. We're supporters of the LGBTQ community, but that's not why we came. I wanted to try the pizza and vegan nuggets. I thought the pizza was fine, but the crust should've been thicker to support the cheese. It was kind of soggy but tasted well. She loved both the pizza and nuggets. Service was great. We didn't have any drinks, so I can't comment on the alcohol. Ended up going to Holy Trinity Brewing, which is right around the corner.

Yelp
Not very family friendly at least on the indoor area. Bar service only. Quesadillas were bland. The subs were on point! And the wings good too! It was just weird when we had teens with us that they had to go up to the bar to get refill on pop. But we're out of towners. Google describes it more of a restaurant than bar. We didn't know.

Yelp
I came in at about 10:30 tonight and sat at the bed of the bar. There were a total of 3 bartenders working and none of them acknowledged me in any way. Finally, one of the bartenders (a tall woman with glasses) looked my way but turned around and went the other way. So I got up and walked to the end of the bar they were on, but when I got there decided at the last second it wasn't worth spending my money. I began to walk out the bar. It's important to note I didn't make a single sound. I said nothing, and just started to walk out. I guess the tall woman with glasses thought it would be nice to taunt me. So she smiled real big and made it her business to tell me to have a great night. It was an the most condescending and cruel tone and she literally laughed. I thought this place was meant to be a safe space but I was treated with cruelty and harshness. I'm disgusted and disappointed.

Yelp
What a fun little joint! I didn't expect to be so good! I was expecting bar style pizza. However, I was pleasantly mistaken. Ambiance is great. Music trivia on Wednesday nights. I will happily try to divert my friends from Pins and instead come here again!
google avatar

Kathy L.

Yelp
I really wanted to like it here but, unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. The ambiance seems fun, was full of color, and the staff were friendly. If you get your own table instead of sitting at the bar, be sure to go to the front and grab menus yourself and go place an order back at the bar before sitting down. The food was dry, and the cheese smelled slightly sour and tasted kind of sour too.
google avatar

Daulton G.

Yelp
Honestly this place is the best kind of bar. Super welcoming, great cocktails, and fun weekly events. The Buffalo cauliflower bites are really good and I highly recommend the Lavender Spritz cocktail. It's as good as it sounds.

Yelp
Real talk... I'm here often but enough to have expectations. Saturday night after a Crew game this place was packed which surprised me me cause it's not close to the stadium by any means. Staff was exceptional as was the pizza. Flawless!

Ryan And Sophie S.

Yelp
Looking for a late night snack and not being from the area, I decided to try this place out. Placed my order, walked over to slammers and picked up our pizza. Had to wait for a bit but not too long. Bartender was friendly and I asked for a water without attitude or roll of the eyes.
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
My first time into Slammers. We were there for a charity event. Queens Against Cancer. The space was a lot smaller than I was picturing when they said there was a show. Thankfully we got there early and were able to get a table. We ordered drinks. Boy they pour some stiff drinks! You definitely get your money's worth there! My vodka and lemonade was yummy. We ordered food to share since we hadn't been there before. We got an Italian sub and pepperoni and banana pepper pizza. That's our go to for a pizza place when we haven't been there before. The sub was really good. The pizza was decent. Not the best I've had in Columbus (but there are SO many good pizza places around town). I don't think we would go back unless we had an event or were meeting friends there for something. But it was good. They were good hosts for the event and that's all that mattered that night.

Yelp
This was my first time here and omg I had fun! It was karaoke night from 7pm-11pm and it didn't disappoint! The lady that is over the karaoke can sing baby and I loved her energy!!! I got a chance to sing a few times! The restrooms are small but that's ok! The pizza was delicious! The bartenders were friendly and nice! We kept drinking water and they gave us a pitcher and cups lol. The park king lot beside the building it's $6 but if u park along the building it's free. There's a patio and everything is really clean! I just hate all the cigarette smoke! But I can't wait to go back and enjoy myself!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
A very freeing space. The patio was amazing. All walks of life, which was cool. DJ at night, we danced the night away. So fun, can't wait to return.

John G.

Yelp
I went in the middle of the week and ordered a sandwich with tater tots. Everyone was friendly and the bartenders kept my water glass filled, since I was ordering to go. It was pretty busy so it took a while to receive the food, which I took to my hotel room. The sandwich was fabulous, and very satisfying. I would return here if I was in the area again.
google avatar

Haley T.

Yelp
This place is a go to spot for great pizza and a couple beers. The patio area has fun music and good vibes. Overall good time! Need to check out trivia night!
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Ummm I love lesbians??? Went to this bar for the first time last night and the vibes are immaculate. Bartenders are lovely, a very safe space, and the food is *chefs kiss*. Very home-y dive bar. 10/10 recommend... especially to lesbians.
google avatar

Laurie G.

Yelp
1 of the last 21 lesbian bars in the US. Great patio and fun space overall. Love the staff and appreciate that this bar is a safe/fun space for LGBTQ+ folx. Some of my favorite pizza in columbus.
google avatar

Chelsea A.

Yelp
Had a great experience at slammers! This is one of their signature/popular drinks, which was good! A little sweet for me though. We ordered a pizza and I thought it was good, came out hot and fresh. Then they had plenty of seating!
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
Probably the best pizza in town! The crust and sauce are on point! This place is not only an amazing pizzeria, it has a variety of quality bar foods, live entertainment and more! It's also one of only 11 female owned, female focused lgbtq bars left in the US!
google avatar

Missy B.

Yelp
This was my first visit. I had never even heard about this bar until a friend suggested it. We went Saturday night and had a few drinks and ordered food. It was a really cute place with great music and the bartenders were all super nice. And the pizza....I would absolutely just go back for the pizza alone haha, it was delicious!
google avatar

Ricky S.

Yelp
As Bette Davis said: "What a dump!" The bar staff was attentive and friendly. Placed an order (only drop off service) and waited 60 minutes for the order. I had to go into the bar to ask where my order was! Manager tried to explain how the order "was not received " in the kitchen. After waiting 60 minutes for a pizza, I said I was going to leave and that I expected my bill to be totally expunged. She told me I would need to pay for the glass of wine I consumed while waiting for the pizza! She said, "there will be no pleasing you!" I felt she was angry because I questioned her groups service (as if I was to just except poor service in a gay place). Will NEVER recommend this place. My take (totally subjective) was that the manager not interested in building business outside of the locals. Beware.
google avatar

Brent F.

Yelp
Probably the best bar pizza ever. Sort of straddles that divide between thin and thick so that everyone is happy - go with extra cheese, you won't be sorry. Small but intimate and fun, it's nestled next to the new and exciting District West (of which I am pleased). I only wish we weren't under the shadow of pandemic protections still, it makes me worry for businesses like this. PS - Last I checked they deliver through conventional delivery apps - at least one I use. It's worth the splurge if you want to eat something quick and easy and want to support them during these challenging times.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
This bar is fun and staff are nice... however, when I ordered fries for takeout I was very disappointed. I was not given size options and I paid 4.98 for this. I expected the box to be overflowing.

Shea C.

Yelp
The bartenders at this place have been rude for years. They always look unhappy and bothered. The pizza is good.
google avatar

Karlie C.

Yelp
Really good food , but I was hoping for a solid lesbian spot but just like every other gay bar in Columbus it's a sausage party.
google avatar

Steven M.

Yelp
I've always heard how good Slammer's pizza is. Finally got to try it yesterday and it was excellent! Give them a try!
google avatar

Tom C.

Yelp
Super friendly staff, great pizza, reasonable prices, and amazing patio. We live close by and love that we can walk to a "neighborhood staple". I hear they host alot of activities and events so looking forward to it!
google avatar

Keith B.

Yelp
I've been coming here for about a year now, off and on, meeting up with people, or with small groups, or occasional post-workout grub and vodka. It's a great bar - I've been here for art events, acoustic nights, karaoke, and it's always been fun and inviting. The crowd is always perfect - and yes, sometimes it's wall-to-wall people, and sometimes it's totally empty. The food isn't amazing - the pizza isn't my favorite - but it's standard bar fare, and it's good for what it is! (So maybe don't come here for date-night dinner, unless your date is cool with low-key grub). The bartenders are always on top of it, and I've never felt I've had a bad pour or mix here. The patio is amazing when it's warm out - with outdoor sets, and tons of space. So - if you're down for drunk pizza, stiff drinks, and the possibility of crowds or emptiness, it's a great spot to chill!
google avatar

Haley G.

Yelp
Decent bar food and pizza. Always good service here. Went here for an art show event with live music. Overall, a good space for a quick drink or two or your occasional Saturday night karaoke.

Syd B.

Yelp
great food, great service, great ambiance, happy to be in a place that's accepting of me and my partner

Kim B.

Yelp
So fun! You have to go here if you like funky dive bars! The pizza was unbelievably good and so were the hot-wings! The bartenders made some tasty drinks. Prices are reasonable and atmosphere casual so you can wear jeans or shorts. This place is for you if you like to have drinks and food and sit around chatting with your friends and family.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
You have to check out the trivia on Thursdays, get a draft beer and order a pizza for the table (when in Rome). Such an awesome bar and staff at Slammers!

Josh B.

Yelp
They had a DJ on July 2nd in the evening. She was playing bad music so I asked if she could play a certain song. She said she won't take requests and was really rude to us.
google avatar

Travis S.

Yelp
This place quickly became one of my favorite pizza joints. I drove by it for years till I finally decided on trying it. The pizza is amazing, drinks as well. The whole atmosphere is very laid back. Looking forward to sitting out on the patio and enjoying the downtown life once the weather gets warmer

Mo G.

Yelp
Went here for my 21st birthday with a couple of friends and had a ton of fun! Happened to show up on karaoke night and had a great time drunkenly slurring Fergalicious.

Chelsea M.

Yelp
Truly the best bar in Columbus with the best patio. The pizza is fantastic, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the bartenders are always welcoming and kind. Madi is the best! This is the place you go when you want to feel at home.

Laura K.

Yelp
Love the bartenders here. They're so nice and make great drinks. Maddie is the best! One of my favorite Columbus spots.

Mike R.

Yelp
Ordered on Uber eats but when I got it it was it was 35 minutes later than they said cold congealed and crust was soggy.
google avatar

Nalla B.

Yelp
The crowd here is hit or miss...like most gay/lesbian bars. Meaning it can be completely packed or a ghost town. I do like that the age range varies. In many other cities, lesbian clubs tend to weigh heavy on one side of the scale of the other...it's a nice mix here. The service is also inconsistent, but usually alright. Pizza is very tasty and pours are decent. Pool, electronic darts, corn hole and a good amount of seating room. They had live music last night and she drew a good size crowd (which is always nice for an extrovert like me). I wish they had more events and did a better job at keeping their social media landing sites updated to draw people in. Overall a fun place to hang and have a few drinks with friends.
google avatar

Molly M.

Yelp
So fun tonight at drag bingo! The pizza and sandwiches here are amazing! You've gotta check it out
google avatar

Marty A.

Yelp
Friendly service at one of columbus' oldest bars. Pizza is one of the best in the city.
google avatar

Tara S.

Yelp
Food isn't that great but can be a good crowd at times. That makes it tough to get a drink. Not sure why they would have a live musician and karaoke on the same night but to each her own. I do like that there is cornhole available and cider.
