Top Date Night Restaurants in Bucks County | Eater Philly

"French bistro Slate Bleu, nestled in the historic Doylestown Agricultural Works building, is an ideal dining spot when you want a cozy, romantic location to enjoy a meal with your loved one. Menu items such as the mussels and white wine combination of moules maison, steak au poivre, and pan-seared sea scallops with mushroom risotto tempt diners while an impressive wine list — offered by the glass, half-glass, and bottle — provide the perfect beverage accompaniment to the meal. Keep the romance going by enjoying a sweet French dessert together, such as the rum baba, an orange flavor, classic rum cake combination." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Google
Food was fabulous. Our waitress was wonderful. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because we had reserved a dinner party, and they couldn't sit us all together. Later, I realized there was an upstairs dining area that wasn't in use, which would have been nice for them to have put us there, so we could have all sat together.

Google
One of the best experiences I ever had, food, customer service, atmosphere, drinks, everything was literally perfect, even if you don’t have a reservation they make it happen.

Sue

Google
Valentine's Day dinner was amazing, food, servers, music, and atmosphere, 5-stars! If you have never had chicken livers, must try it here, they are divine.

Google
Wonderful meal at Slate Bleu! Feel like they went through some changes during Covid, but they are back better than ever. So happy that we met another couple for dinner. Our Cocktails were amazing! Tuna Tartare appetizer and crab ravioli were to die for. Enjoyed our entrees that included Bronzino and the special Monkfish with curry. Jared (our bartender & server) was so accommodating!!

Lana Roytenko

Google
Wonderful food, atmosphere and service is always top notch. I love that they change their menu and everything I’ve tried has always been absolutely delicious! We are repeat customers, highly recommend this French restaurant. P.S. Their desserts are all made in house.

Google
The food, dessert, service and atmosphere is absolutely amazing all around. Everything we tried was delicious. We walked in without a reservation but they were still able to accommodate us. Lovely place.

Google
Fully lived up to my expectations of French style dining. We had the Goat Cheese, Spinach & Leek Crepe (covered in a flavorful tomato sauce), Panko Shrimp and Thai muscles. A perfect light yet filling meal. Followed up with the homemade ice cream assortment (pick 3). I wish I could have tried them all. The Dark Chocolate Orange ice cream was too good! Doylestown is perfect for classy dining without the busyness of the inner city.

Google
Wonderful local treasure in Doylestown! The food has a French flair, is always fresh, and if you have the chance eat at the bar. The Cocktails that they have created are truly hand crafter! I had the gnocchi, and will definitely have again.

Yelp
Slate Bleu (SB) is Doylestown's overall best restaurant in terms of quality of food and service. Having recently (and finally!) returned to SB after a hiatus of several years due to COVID, GF and I thoroughly enjoyed a Thanksgiving Eve light meal at the bar. Bartender and server Kristin was professional, attentive, and friendly. The setting was calm and comfortable. Our drinks -- especially the martinis -- were first-rate, thanks to Kristin's mixology skills. Our plate of top-quality PEI oysters was scrumptious. The accompanying vinegar sauce of cornichons and capers was a perfect pairing with the oysters. We also shared an apps plate of fresh seafood nibbles (cured salmon, seared tuna, etc.). Doylestown-area peeps: Slate Bleu deserves our support and patronage. It's a gem!

Yelp
Really great experience at SB. A cool and comfortable atmosphere greeted us when we arrived. The wait staff members were attentive and our most amiable server (who doubled as a mixologist) prepared for us some nice cocktails. Everything we ate was delicious. My steak was served just the way I ordered it and was accompanied by an outstanding side of fries with a tasty harissa dip. Desserts were also quite good--my favorite being the mandarine orange panna cotta.

Yelp
had dinner at Slate Bleau. The restaurant decor is very nice. unfortunately the food was disappointing. when I asked for no starch, I was told I couldn't make substitutions. I requested vegetables as a side and was made to feel awful for even making the request. Finally, after much back and forth with the waiter they reluctantly agreed to give Asparagus and charged me $9.00 for a thimble sized portion of chopped up Asparagus. if someone has a food allergy or can not have certain items you would think the right thing to do would be to accommodate the customer not embarrass them.

Yelp
We were so disappointed because we really wanted to like this place and there were parts of our meal that were good. But the bad outweighed the good by such a large scale that it ruined most of our experience. The worst part of our experience was our server. While he tried to be somewhat pleasant, he missed the mark on everything we look for in a dining experience. It started with being able to understand him when he spoke. We all asked him several times to speak up, articulate when describing the menu and specials. The restaurant was not very loud so that was not the issue. He just mumbled so we missed most of what he was saying. He was not attentive. Did not fill water glasses, did not offer additional cocktails and our meal took 3 hours!!! And this was not a complicated multi-course experience. At the end of 3 hours our friends were visibly upset because we had an hour drive home and I had to go search for him and ask him to prepare our check. Ridiculous. So that was the service. Everyone agreed that the food was average to below average. The highlights that were worth 4 stars were the raw PEI oysters, the special crab salad appetizer and the strawberry rhubarb panna cotta dessert. My watermelon daiquiri was excellent. So unfortunately we will not be rushing back.

Yelp
We went to Slate Bleu last night for the first time. It has a wonderful atmosphere; it's quiet and cozy. We started with the D'escargots - escargot in a delicate garlic butter, with a light, flaky pastry shell sitting atop the dish. It was delicious, I wish there were 5 more of those pastry shells! We had 2 entrees; the first was Pan Seared Scallops with a mushroom risotto and asparagus. They were perfect - they're among the best scallops I've had. We had one of the specials that evening for our next entree; the Gnocchi, with tomatoes and mushrooms in a very tasty sauce. It was a delightful meal and the service was excellent!

Michael D.

Yelp
Anniversary dinner last night...FANTASTIC in every way. The food is on another level that cannot be matched in the area, not to mention the cocktails which are expertly crafted and served. Slate Bleu is a Doylestown treasure

Yelp
Lovely local French restaurant with polite staff. Wine and spirit selection is great with many to choose from. The Pâté Maison was very good. Complementary bread and bite sized almond cake after dessert is highly appreciated. Recommend for anyone craving French cuisine or fine dining experience in Doylestown.

Yelp
Love this place over the years. Always excellent food , wine and cocktails. You have to try the baked oysters! It seems they have recently made a few changes in the ambiance. If you haven't dined here before, then you may want to ignore the rest of the review. Gone are the amuse bouche, white table clothes, madeleines, dim lighting and paying your server at the table. The menu seems to be smaller , but portions seem slightly bigger.

Leigh M.

Yelp
The food was amazing! I haven't had escargot in ages. It is not easy to find. The presentation was delightful as was the escargot itself. Every dish seemed more amazing than the previous one topped off by a delicious dessert. I will definitely return.

Yelp
Outstanding restaurant My husband and I went in late August for our first time. We sat at the bar and were quickly in love with the place after meeting the bartender, Jeremy! He's a true mixologist and he takes his drinks seriously. I ordered the grapefruit martini and my husband ordered a pear martini! Both were excellent! Mine was served with a spoon! We shared the fish soup and a salad. They came separately, which was nice as we could thoroughly enjoy them! I ordered the Bronzino and he ordered the strip steak au poivre! Both were spectacular! This is a must try if you are looking for a great restaurant in Doylestown

Yelp
We've had nothing but the absolute best experiences here time and time again. The ambiance is lovely and the food is fabulous. The cocktails are some of the best made and very creative (my husband dreams about the Maahoot) and the service is my personal favorite combination of attentive/timely without being overbearing/in your face. Top choices for us have been the Beef Tartare, Salade Ardoise, the winter beet salad (obviously not on the menu right now), the Gnocchi, the Branzino and my beloved Steak Frites. Everything has been beautifully seasoned with great flavor and bigger impact than the menu might even suggest. For example, the beef tartare has an incredible brininess thanks to the addition of anchovies and the gnocchi says it comes in a tomato jus with prosciutto and mushrooms but the prosciutto is crisp and the tomato just is a really well and deeply flavored broth (also, the gnocchi are lighter than air). I read some past comments and am not sure where people are coming from -- the prices are extremely fair for the quality and we've found all portions to be on the generous to large side. I guess maybe it would be easier to book reservations online but I've never had trouble getting a timely callback. Anyone who criticizes the food is wildly off-base; flavors are creative, proteins are cooked perfectly and everything is well seasoned. I do wish the menu had more options and diversity and, from some of the older pictures, I can see that that was the case pre-Covid. However, in a pandemic, Slate Bleu has managed to provide a safe environment with no lags in quality of food or service so zero criticism here! Extremely grateful to have this as an option for great French food in Bucks County.

Yelp
1st visit. 5PM Saturday night. Reservation helpful. The staff is super friendly. Had 3 seafood dishes. Mussels, Bronzino, and scallops. All done perfectly. Apple tart dessert was excellent. Will definitely return. note: The kitchen closes at 9PM.

Yelp
I maybe don't want to tell too many about this place, but I can't contain my enthusiasm for the food, staff & drinks. If you read this & go, only tell your best friends & family: we do want it to get too crowded.

Yelp
What a delicious and fresh food! We husband and I came here for a date night and we were very impressed with the service, ambiance and the food... specially the food! My husband got their scallops with mushroom risotto which he claimed, were "awesome". I got their Trout dish special which was AMAZING! It came with a mustard sauce that was delicious, spinach and purple potatoes. Their dark chocolate mousse was delicious as well, I kinda wish it came with fruits though, that would be my only comment.

Ella Z.

Yelp
Amaizing atmosphere, outstanding food, awesome service. We ordered chicken liver as appetizer and it was delicious. All presentations were well crafted and on a cusual side, not pompous. For main course we ordered stake and see scallops. Stake was soft and really melted in your mouth. Scallops were prepared with risotto. Excellent combination, and, of course, each dish was prepared with its own souce. We enjoyed our dinner and ambiance. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Stopped by here randomly and we were so pleasantly surprised. French food that actually is done in a French style!! Service was very good, server was well versed on the dishes and the specials. Music nice, bar tender was making his drinks very well. Place was nice and clean and the seats comfortable. Good menu selection too! Baked Oysters to start, very good! My husband and I both had fish, cooked to perfection! The Ginger soufflé although looked impressive wasn't to our taste but everything else was excellent! Already planning our next visit!

Yelp
We were here for my wife's Birthday. Nice place for a date dinner. However we were very disappointed for the food. I lived in France for years and this is not even close to be a French Restaurant which they claim to be. Very limited choices like a Brasserie in France and overly priced. Left more hungry and felt very sad for my wife who could not get a decent meal.

Carol M.

Yelp
This restaurant is awesome. The menu is sort of small but it amazing. The branzino fish was the best I've ever eaten. Kristen was our waitress and was very helpful with food selection. I highly recommend this place

Yelp
I had the ribeye steak. It was wonderful! Tender and tasty with a side of potatoes. My wife had the salmon which was also amazing. I will definitely be back when we come back to town. If your looking for a quiet place with good food, Slate Bleu is a great choice. Loved the service also.

Yelp
I met a friend here for lunch midweek. The restaurant was very quiet when we began. I really liked the menu. There were plenty of delicious choices and many French items one doesn't see in a typical restaurant these days. I was torn between many choices of small plates including but not limited to Fois, onion soup, escargot etc. etc. Since I don't often see whole chicken livers on a menu, I went ahead and ordered them. I also had the salmon gravalox which was very pretty and delicious. Both dishes were just delicious. The next time I will have the chicken livers to share they were very rich and filling. I would love to try a tasting menu at this restaurant to get a full view of the other entrées. If I did not live so far away, I would go back immediately. The atmosphere is cozy and current at the same time. The server was efficient and friendly totally pro. I could not come up with one negative aspect to my experience. This is my first time to this little town and I was quite impressed. I live about an hour away and would make the Treck again if I had the chance, I might conjure up an excuse.

Yelp
Slate Bleu has wonderful dishes served a la carte. It can be pricey, but this is gourmet . Full bar including terrific wine list. The wait staff is first class and always willing to give you pairing advice or explain ingredients. One of my favorites is the fennel salad. Everything on this menu is fresh! This restaurant is tucked away in the agricultural works building on South Main near the train station. Easy parking in their lot. This is a quiet place to enjoy an exceptional dinner. Relax and enjoy.

Yelp
Went there for dinner last night. Food and Bar Service was good. Food portions were small and everything extremely overpriced. The menu did not consist of typical French dishes such as Veal Cordon Bleu, etc. I don't enjoy going to a restaurant, spending good money and walking away still hungry.

Yelp
Slate Bleu (Blue Slate) Restaurant is part of a very attractive adaptive reuse of an old brick 19th Century building in Doylestown. For that alone, the structure is worth a close look. The architect gets 5 Stars for adaptation and execution. The restaurant is Au Provence French style look and feel. Dark wood tones, center floor bar, and a quiet sensibility with white tablecloths, benches along the walls, and simple chairs. The bartender (owner?) serves as hostess and maître d., serving drinks to the tables after she makes them. A nice touch. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and unobtrusive. The dinner menu is not extensive, but covers all the food groups. The chef is creative and makes the effort to bring his best to his work. We had the Green Salad, Bronzino with a Fruit Salsa Sauce, and for dessert shared a Pistachio Souffle. The salad was basically a fresh spring mix, but with a dressing that tasted weak in combination with the greens. The Bronzino (Mediterranean Sea Bass) was very well presented, light tasting with a tasty Mexican-esque fruit salsa combination piled high on the fillet. It was very enjoyable. It was a daily special @ $28 per. Finally, the Souffle was made from scratch and came with a gravy boat full of hot chocolate for pouring into its center. While very light, fluffy and yummy, the $15. plus price was a chill to the digestion. (I knew in advance and decided to bite the silver bullet in favor of making my companion happy. You know how that is.) So, although Slate Bleu is an attractively appointed French/Country space, and the cuisine is very good for the most part, there is a sticker shock that accompanies the experience. While I would return, it will only be when I have a very special occasion. When a dinner for two comes in over the century mark without drinks, reservations about reservations are appropriate.

Dana L.

Yelp
All of the many meals I have had here have been prepared expertly and served with care....and the drinks are perfect.

Yelp
Ambience lovely. Service impeccable. Food was excellent. This is a bistro menu--it's very clear, so I am disappointed to see this place get knocked for their portion sizes. I did their version of a kir royale to start, was super albeit just a touch on the sweet side. My husband and I had oysters first (super fresh and clean), then did the scallops and skate. Added a frozen grapefruit martini, which was delicious, followed by the fois gras and steak frites with a belgian ale. Everything was amazing, but I think our favorite was the skate with brown butter. Just delicious. We were beyond satisfied after the meal. Again, be prepared to order more than one dish per person. With three drinks between the two of us, and with oysters and four other dishes, the bill came to just under $150. This is COMPLETELY reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber. If you're going to order 2-3 drinks per person, your bill will reflect that as the cocktails aren't cheap, however they are certainly within reason. But really, this isn't a place to booze it up, as that would surely dull your experience with the cuisine. All in all, far above the average Doylestown fare. Will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Start to finish everything was delicious! Drinks, cheese plate, port, entrees and dessert, all prepared, presented and served perfectly! We were able to enjoy a relaxing meal, never feeling rushed, never feeling as if we ordered too much. Service was great! Our waitress was there when we needed, very knowledgeable and able to offer suggestions when requested. She also didn't linger or push us on more drinks, dessert etc... Overall a great dinner experience, we will be back often!

Yelp
went for drinks and appetizers on a Friday night. Ate in the downstairs bar area, great ambiance! Attentive, friendly service. Very nice selection of wine by the glass. (6 different red grapes; had nice Tempranillo) Had the ceviche, which I am pretty picky about. It was excellent, with just the right tartness and spice. As to the comment about prices, this was $14 and almost an entree size portion (est. 4-5 oz of scallops). If the main dining room is as good as our experience, I am headed back soon as I believe it is a good value for the quality of food, service and atmosphere.

Yelp
Went for lunch today. This place serves very good food and drinks. We had four dishes and it is impossible to say which was the best. French onion soup, salad with cheese, figs and candied pecans, skate meurniere, and sears scallops with risotto. The atmosphere is great. Our service was great, but they were not busy..... we will be coming back here.

Yelp
I made sure to read as many reviews as I could before taking my wife to dinner to celebrate her birthday. I am going to stay away from repeating what most people wrote about how great this restaurant is, that is a fact! For people who do not know what bistro plates are, I suggest you take time to learn what it is you are paying for with your hard earned money. It surprises me how some people can be ignorant and then continuing to do so by writing a complaint highlighting their lack of knowledge. The reason I gave this restaurant a 4-star rating is a few things fell short on my expectations. Service was spot on, the only thing missing was crumbing the table before dessert. Sorry to say, we were a bit messy due to sharing several delicious plates. The other disappointment was the 2 desserts we had, creme brulee and a souffle. The brulee custard was over-cooked and close to being scrambled eggs. The souffle had a strong over-cooked egg taste and very little flavour, plus it was really rubbery. Let me just say, we had a wonderful meal overall, loved the ambiance, padded tables (rare these days), staff and pace of our meal. Congratulations on a job well done!!!!
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
Very disappointing. Overpriced. While I'm a good cook, I expect to eat food that is way better than mine when it is as pricy as this. That was not the case. Everything was just ok. Not worth a second try.

G X M.

Yelp
what a terrible experience. We ordered take out. They make you wait in an outer area that is roughly 8x5 feet, no chairs mind you and they have the door locked so you can see into the bar area, which they will not let you in. They say it is because of covid but as other people come into this 8x5 area (keep in mind it also has a vespa and a small table which takes up half the space) you are onto top of each other worse than an elevator as everyone waits for royalty to open the door and ask what you want. you can see your food getting cold as you wait for one of the front staff to stop texting or talking to each other. Not a thank you to be had anywhere. One thing is for sure, you cannot stay in business this way. The owners cannot possibly be oblivious to this so I assume they just do not care.

Andrew M.

Yelp
I went on a date to Slate with my mate, Kate. Everything I ate was first-rate, no debate. Kate's plate was great - nothing to hate. Felt like fate. I can't wait to recreate my great date with Kate at Slate.
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
It's ok - good bistro menu and I like the wine list which has value to expensive options. Problem is that everything looks and sounds better than it actually is. Had 21 dollar baked oyster app. Now I don't mind paying that much but it better be outstanding - was simply ok. Maybe even a little greasy and bland. Wife had poquillo peppers stuffed with cod and other great things - was kinda disgusting and had a sauce that was pretty bad. For dinner had a salad with blue cheese and figs etc. - was good but wasn't great. Wife's frites with her steak were outstanding thought. Great service and a pretty interesting setting. I'll come back and eat at the bar to see if it gets better. It's decent but not worth a special trip...
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
While Slate Bleu is a bit on the pricey side for Doylestown, this is by far the best dining in town. Outstanding bar service with hand crafted cocktails that are very well done. Great options for apps - mussels in garlic/white wine are top notch, baked oysters are fab. Go to entrees are scallops on risotto, steak and frites, and several other great options for fish, pasta, chicken. Don't leave without trying whatever tart is available for dessert, we have never been disappointed!! Wait staff is attentive and competent, overall great experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and delicious food. My entree was under seasoned but perked right up with a little salt. All 3 courses were very enjoyable.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in here on Saturday night and found a few empty seats at the bar. The bar tender was fantastic and really professional, wine was great but the food was absolutely amazing! The swordfish special was great and I ended the meal with a scoop of espresso ice cream. I will certainly come back for sure!

Yelp
This is not a place for an inexpensive lunch. So if that's your criterion, go elsewhere. However, I just had one of the most satisfying meals of my life at Slate Bleu. A dear friend and I went out to lunch. The ambiance was upscale, but not remotely pretentious, and the food, from entree to dessert, was top-notch. My friend had the salmon with mustard sauce. It was a subtle, delicious sauce. I had the Bar Steak Au Poivre--the NY Strip was small, but immensely satisfying, and the sauce was absolute heaven. Sienna, our delightful waitress, brought me extra sauce, and it wasn't a skimpy amount, either--I love sauces and most restaurants are so stingy with them. (The reason Sienna was so outstanding was she was there when you wanted/needed something, but she wasn't overly chatty or--goddess forfend--intrusive. She had a lovely, intelligent way about her.) I decided to save a bit of room for dessert, so I didn't order the potatoes au gratin I so love. I had profiteroles, a house specialty. Slate Bleu makes their own ice cream and offers a large, delicious assortment. My profiteroles choices were gianduja (milk chocolate hazelnut), espresso, and caramel. These were accompanied by a divine dark chocolate sauce. It was a bit too much for me to finish, but I did sufficient and happy damage. My friend, who almost never orders dessert, chose a acacia honey creme brûlée. Excellent, but I didn't regret selecting the profiteroles. I am sad I will be moving in a few months, because I probably will only be able to return once or twice more. Truly a wonderful dining experience.

Mary M.

Yelp
The reviews read very well. Maybe I had a bad night. The asparagus soup tasted BLAND and seemed to be Spinah & Kale. Next morning no typical diuretic effect or odor.... this was NOT spinach. Main course was 'Saucisson en Croute', a sausage in a TINY 'vol-au-vent' style pastry. The dough crust was over cooked, yet mushy, tasted reheated after sitting since morning, and the sausages hard and overcooked and bland. Dessert? Crème brûlée... this was literally 'brûlée', just burnt sugar, absolutely NO vanilla flavor or traces of vanilla bean... against a VERY bland whipped corn starch creamy base. NOT French. The bread was not French nor Italian, but typical spongy US diner bread. BJ's has better French baguettes. I would try Slate Bleu again, but was told, if you did not like it, you do not have to come back..... Indeed I felt Bleu. I must be the only one. P.T. Barnum was right.

Bruce W.

Yelp
Cocktail Review (didn't eat dinner)- one of the best made cocktails I have ever had. Extremely professional and hard-working bartenders were hustling and made great drinks. They bring small complimentary snacks that were excellent and I was happy to see it was busy without feeling crowded. I had no idea the drinks here were so good but we will definitely be back and I applaud them for the professionalism they were bringing to the bar experience.

Yelp
Confident on the recommendations from several Yelpers, I led a group of friends to brunch at Slate Bleu on Sunday. The restaurant is very pretty and the guys noticed the awesome beer list right away. The French menu sounded great and we all had a hard time deciding on our meals. I was either going to go with French onion soup and a salad or something more breakfast-y. Our server said their version of the soup wasn't very salty and the cheese was on the croutons. Isn't the salt and cheese factor the best part of onion soup, though? I went with a gruyere and ham omelet instead. In the meantime, a round of coffee and bloody marys filled the table. The cocktails were okay, nothing special. A basket of pastries and some lemon curd and preserves were delivered. I loved this special touch. The mini croissants were excellent with some lemon curd. My omelet was tasty but the ham was very thick-cut, like a ham steak, which didn't really make sense for an omelet. I ate a few bites but stuck mostly to the egg and cheese. I ordered a side of potatoes for an extra five dollars and the potato was a very small hashbrown-type thing. It was good but not worth the extra money. All in all, this was a nice brunch but definitely on the pricey side given the quality/quantity of the meal and compared to what we are used to in Philly. I'd consider going back to Slate Bleu for drinks or small plates, but I probably would look elsewhere for brunch

Yelp
Sorry, I'm missing something that others seem to enjoy here. We found the food average, but very expensive for what you get. My wife ordered the bronzini special tonight. Wasn't even the whole fish, just a single fillet for $30. I ordered the lobster bisque that was pretty flat tasting as was the saffron risotto that accompanied my chicken. Service was just average as was the $14 cocktail I ordered. I really don't mind high prices as long as quality goes along with it, but in the case of Slate Blue, the dots just don't connect.

Yelp
I just saw a few reviews about Slate Bleu and was shocked how many people considered it "pricey" or "stuffy". What kind of places do they normally go to - Denny's? :) I thought the prices were fine, and even on the cheaper side. Granted, I have just come from Manhattan and I live in Los Angeles, so I am used to higher prices in general.. Okay.. prices aside.. The atmosphere was lovely. Very comfortable and pleasant. The service was great and waiters very friendly. Wine selection - very nice (I LOVED their Poppy Hill Cab!!!) We had skirt steak, which was wonderfully prepared, and the chicken was really great too! I loved the little mini cheese pastry they brought for us as an appetizer (for free).. They also brought 2 yummy cookies for dessert (free)... I thought it was a really great place, found it totally by accident. When I'm back through the area, hope to return!!! :)

Yelp
Was really excited to try out since hearing great things. The service was just ok. Very slow and inattentive. We ordered the mussels which were good but from there it went downhill. The chicken paillard was very bland and nothing special. My husband had the steak frites and the steak was extremely tough and little flavor. Maybe I'll try again but will take a while.

Yelp
On a whim, we picked this place based on its yelp reviews and our love for French bistros, and once again Yelp was good to us! Sampled 5 dishes, some not so small plus dessert and found them all to be good to delicious! Cheese plate with port had a generous 7 cheese selections. Escargot in puff pasty was delicious, as was the garlicly butter sauce. Lobster, shrimp, scallop pasta special was excellent, pricy at $36 but delicious. Steak frites with carmelized shallots was very good. Gratin potatoes cheesy deliciousness. For dessert, we had small world coffee cappuccinos as well as authentic chocolate souffle - made to order and yummy. Service was friendly, atmosphere was nice but casual we'd return for sure!

Yelp
Great meal, as usual. Started with cocktails, St Germain cocktail, Rose from Provence, manhattan, and a kir. All done professionally. 1st course scallops rosaca with black truffles (scallops sliced thin, black truffle slice sandwiched between in a rose pattern). Delicate preparation, scallops done perfectly. Entrees - leg of rabbit mustardo, again done perfectly, moist, with a nice vegetable julienned (?) combo. Switched to a NY Southampton Saison large format bottle of farm style saison, WOW!, Finished with profiteroles (caramel, vanilla, and chocolate hazelnut house made ice creams), plus fresh blueberry cobbler with house made lemon ice cream. We've had and enjoyed the profiteroles before, and they were as good as every other time. The cobbler special was a perfect summer dessert, it was more like warm blueberries with cobbler crumbles, really show cased the blueberries. Can't go wrong with anything the menu, plus the service is outstanding (Susan is a wonderful host!)

Yelp
So so good! We loved our meal from beginning to end. Well worth it. I would go back just for the house made ice creams alone. Each course was perfectly composed and expertly executed. I look forward to going back again.

Yelp
I was an employee here for a short time and although I expected a great experience, I did not fall for the mirage due to the upscale nature. Susan and the staff did not have a plan for me. I asked multiple questions a day including training, pay, forms of employment - none of which were provided to me. It's been a few months and I still have not received the pay that I am owed for my time spent on the floor. It's not my business, but if you need the money to the point that you cannot deliver on the time that I spent laboring inside your restaurant..keep it. I will not step foot in there again.

Yelp
Many of my favorite restaurants in Doylestown are closed on Mondays, and so I ended up at Slate Bleu by way of default last evening. I have heard several mixed reviews, with the underlining theme that the food is over priced but the lovely ambiance helps to offset the splurge. After a complete tasting of 6 different menu items--hand selected, not pre-fix, I would have to agree that the food is not the highlight at Slate Bleu. I think that the cocktails, the classy Au Provence decor, and the service really carry this restaurant. The food was not nearly as expensive as I thought it might be, but I thought many of the dishes were lacking in flavor. They had all the right ingredients, but needed more umph! The thai mussels were made with coconut water instead of coconut milk, so they were very, very light. I asked for the steak au poivre at medium temperature, assuming it would be served at medium rare, provided that Slate Bleu is a French restaurant. Instead, it came to the table rather well done, with only a mere hint of pink in the very center. The escargot en croute were rich and garlicky, but again, lacking. The salad with figs, prosciutto, and blue cheese was delicious and so were the french fries served with the mussels. Unfortunately, the bread was a huge disappointment. It wasn't served warm, and it was stale tasting. I would recommend going to sit at the bar and sharing a couple of small plates as a nice date night. I recommend the Bourbon St. Ginger, which has bourbon, ginger liquor, and st. germaine. I also LOVE the grapefruit martini, which is served with a scoop of sorbet!

Yelp
This place is really great! My wife and I are locals who like to dine out and for some reason never made it here until this week. Anyhow our waiter Matt was awesome and his guidance on the food was spot on. We wanted to give the chef a big hug after each bite but refrained...other than telling that to Matt. One bite after the next was superb! Starting with the oyster appetizer - 1/2 dozen raw and 1/2 dozen baked with panko bread crumbs etc were phenomenal! Even the salad was incredible! And then the main courses - my wife had the steak and I had the red snapper special. Every bite...I repeat...every bite was superb! We even booked our return visit before we left and can't wait to head back there tonight for a family birthday dinner! Slate Bleu you are our new Doylestown favorite! Keep up the magic!
