Slater's Steakhouse

First time eating here. Always heard that you’ve got to eat at Slater’s. It was good, but kinda fell short of expectations. The steaks were just not the highest quality and the atmosphere was a little lacking. Good wine options. Cocktails were terrific and service was very friendly and helpful.

Dining at Slater’s in Athens felt less like a meal and more like a carefully choreographed love letter to the senses. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere wrapped us in warmth and understated elegance, setting the stage for an evening that unfolded beautifully course by course. Each dish arrived like a small masterpiece—thoughtfully composed, bursting with flavor, and clearly crafted with reverence for both ingredient and guest. Every bite sang, balancing comfort and sophistication in a way that lingered long after the plates were cleared. What truly elevated the evening into something unforgettable was our server, Lee, whose grace, intuition, and genuine hospitality were nothing short of exceptional. Lee moved through the dining room like a quiet conductor, anticipating needs before they were spoken, offering recommendations with confidence and care, and making us feel not merely served, but truly welcomed. The service was seamless, personal, and heartfelt—an art in itself. Slater’s is not just a restaurant; it’s an experience—one that blooms fully through exquisite cuisine and the rare magic of service done perfectly. An absolute gem, and a meal I will remember with delight. 🌸

The food and service was fantastic. The filet was so buttery and well seasoned, one of the best steaks I have ever had. Chicken Schnitzel was amazing. Drinks and rolls were top notch. This place is pricey, but we felt the excellent food and evening matched the price. We had an incredible time and will return!

Let me start by saying the service at Slater’s was absolutely top notch! If you want a decent meal where you feel very taken care of Slater’s has that down pat. I have to say I am slightly confused about the menu. One of the sides we ordered was onion rings, and while my husband and I agreed that they were the best onion rings we had ever had it felt off to eat with fancy steak. I had the chicken which was good, but I’m still not sure what it was on top of. The Blue crab soup was AMAZING. The steak with chimichurri was acceptable. The ONLY thing that was a miss for me was the atmosphere which feels super odd to say because it feels like the atmosphere should be so great. The way our table was situated made us feel like we had to compete for conversation with the table next to us. It was just weirdly loud. And the lighting felt off for an intimate dinner. But that is all kind of petty just my two cents. Next time we will get a reservation for the front room rather than the main dining room and maybe that would improve that.

Everything was wonderful from the servers to the wine! Only negative was our steaks were slightly over from the temperature ordered. However, still super tender, juicy and delicious! Only photo I took was of the bottle of Zinfandel we drank! Excellent wine!

This steak house was incredible. From our appetizer oyster rocker fella, to the grouper and the New York steak. My steak was juicy, cook exactly the way I requested. We had the peace Bellini bread pudding, excellent!!!!

Great steak, great service, and great atmosphere! My steak was cooked perfectly and no additional sauce needed. Definitely a place to go if you're looking for a great experience!

“All Sizzle No Steak”. The atmosphere and the wait staff was great. The food was less than desirable. My son and I got the ribeyes and when that came out they were at room temperature and had a char taste as well as 3/4” thick. Too thin.. Such a letdown for a $700 tab.

The NY strip steak was very grisly and fatty. I expected much better from this expensive restaurant. The service and atmosphere were great. Probably will not go again.

Absolutely fantastic meal and amazing service. Molly our server was truly wonderful and attentive. Atmosphere was as inviting. We are on a road trip and stopped in Athens GA for an overnight and a birthday dinner celebration. We ordered the filet and the ribeye and were not disappointed all the steaks were cooked exactly to our liking. Definitely recommend and if we are ever passing through again will come back.

Slaters is wonderful! Just a great spot with an amazing menu. We had the scallop entree and a steak salad. The steak was perfect as was the scallop dish. Griffey ran point behind the bar--excellent cocktails and a wonderfully curated bar of lesser known spirits (bourbon and tequila especially). We met Jerry the owner and it was honestly just a perfect experience. Pls go and enjoy!

Really liked this place! Food came out all at once unfortunately but it tasted great. The risotto and scallops were my favorite. I liked the vibe inside and staff was nice even though the service itself wasn't incredible.

Exceptional Dinner. We visited with another couple and were ALL very happy with our selections! My Strip Steak was Flavorful, cooked to perfection, and so tender! Two others had scallops and risotto and were so pleased they wanted others to taste it. The trout was also well prepared enhancing the subtle flavor of the fish! The friendly staff is another reason to return here and their EXPAT Restaurant, across on Lumpkin!

We would have rated a 5 had they not charged a "3% employee health insurance fee". The atmosphere, food, and service is of very high quality. However, the lack of transparency about this fee is unprofessional. There was no disclosure about this fee on the menu or verbally. It was simply a surprise fee added to the bottom of our bill. Furthermore, why would a business owner pass the buck to their patrons for their employees' insurance? Why not pay for it themselves if it is that important? They are certainly charging enough for the meals to do so. For example, our bill for 2 people was $177.40, plus a 20% tip, and this is without a main course meal. The assumption that I want to pay for your employee's insurance is exceptionally petty. We did pay this outrageous fee. However, after two visits to this establishment, we ultimately decided not to return.

A great spot for a nicer dinner! Went here over Dad's Weekend for my sorority this past spring and we loved it. Definitely make your reservation early because we just did a bar reservation but still a great atmosphere. The food and drinks were great and service was also very prompt. As a college student definitely not somewhere I will be going on a casual weekday but a great spot for when your family is in town!

Definitely the best steakhouse in Athens. One of the few truly "great" meals I've had in Athens. I dined at the bar. Bartender was class and very knowledgeable. Good cocktail. Excellent steak and fantastic desert. I strongly recommend any of the several restaurants this group has in Athens.

We had an anniversary dinner here that was exceptional -- not fancy -- not gourmet -- but excellent steak with delicious sides. And complimentary champagne.

Three stars cause of excellent service. Beyond the really good steak and literally the best onion rings I've ever had - everything else was average at best. Place is worth a try, and you make your sauce opinion. We won't be going back.

The most perfect night! Greeted kindly, the atmosphere is perfect, and the waitstaff was amazing. And then the food and drinks! Absolutely delicious. We will try to have a meal here every time we visit Athens!

Enjoyed my first time. I know I'll come back after the first time. Drinks were good. My table enjoyed the apps as well.

A true 5 star steakhouse in Athens! Food, service, & ambiance are excellent. Our new favorite in Athens.
