Where to Dine in Oxford, Mississippi

"Native Texan Alexandria Santiago opened Sleepy Cactus in 2022, her dream breakfast and lunch restaurant serving what she calls Tex-Mex-Issippi fare. Her breakfast tacos are addictive — definitely add chorizo — but the specials, oh my. A recent Tex-Ississippi shredded roast beef torta au jus conjured up juicy birria taco meat, dressed with two kinds of spicy peppers, crispy fried potatoes on the side. Agua frescas in flavors like hibiscus lime are an added bonus." - Beth D'Addono

Google
I had an absolutely amazing experience at Sleepy Cactus. If you're looking for fresh, fast, and flavorful food, look no further and come try what they have to offer! We stopped in for some breakfast tacos. One chorizo, one brisket & hash brown. Both came with egg & cheese, and were served spicy verde and mild red sauces! Talk about some seriously good eats. & Everything was cooked perfectly. (Btw, they had vegan option available for the tacos!!) The ambiance is so calming too. It's bright and open with comfortable seating, both indoors and outdoors! The music selection was awesome too. Good vibes, good food, great price. Definitely excited to come back to try everything else they have to offer!

The place is so cute and nice! Great staff! Super friendly. The horchata iced coffee is good but I needed a little sweetness. The brisket tacos are expensive for a taco. The cost was $14.00 for two tacos super small. The meat was very fatty yet juicy. Unfortunately the juiciness from the meat saturated the taco making it super soggy and the eggs were not good or seasoned.

Excellent breakfast destination for Oxford. Flavorful and creative fusions of southern food with Tex-Mex creations. Cool and casual gas station conversion with shaded and outdoor seating. In my limited experience this place has staffing and planning problems, especially around gameday weekends. On four trips across two years it was once simply closed on a Thursday morning during open hours, and on another trip after standing in line for 20 minutes outside, the counter attendant simply put a "hold all orders for 20 minutes." With that said the staff was accommodating and served coffee to those who wanted some.

Cozy place. Only place east of Texas that serves breakfast tacos. Not bad but not exactly Tex Mex. Limited taco selection.

Service was incredible and very welcoming! Everything was very tasty, but brisket was pretty greasy. Chorizo taco was delicious especially with green salsa. Would definitely come back if we are ever in town again.

The best breakfast tacos in MS. While not huge, the menu has stellar items that allow you to get creative and mix and match to your preference. To those noting wait times, this isn't a fast food chain! The food is made fresh, so its naturally going to take a second. Brought 5 out of town friends here during a busy gameday weekend and we all had our food within 15 minutes. I recommend the brisket or chorizo tacos, you wont be disappointed.

Love Sleepy Cactus! We moved to Oxford a bit over a month ago and have been here for breakfast 3 times. There is always a different agua Fresca to try which I look forward to. Today I had my fav to date: hibiscus lime! Breakfast tacos are great! The breakfast crunch wrap was one of the breakfasts I’ve ever had. Atmosphere and staff are wonderful. We look forward to many more visits to Sleepy Cactus!

Google
20 minutes for a breakfast taco! Unbelievable! Will not be back. Rather drive to Texas for Tourchy’s Tacos. It would take less time. Asked for extra cheese - got no cheese. Hash browns are just frozen patties torn in half. Very disappointed! Save time and money and make it yourself in a microwave.

Yelp
We dropped in to check out this breakfast spot gem on a game day and it was outstanding!! I love the walk up and order convenience. Brady and Olivia greeted us at the counter and their service was stellar! Get here before 10 am so you don't miss out! I'm glad we made the cut because the "Sold Out and See You Tomorrow" sign was taped on the front door while we waited in the line. We started off with the Cowboy Cookie while we waited for our Sleepyhead breakfast plates. Picture a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie combo with pecans. Yum! The Horchata Cold Brew was a nice in-house made blend of sweetened ice coffee and cinnamon. Our Sleepyhead meals were filling. My husband loved the jalapeño cheddar grits and my favorite was the homemade red salsa that they available have for your scrambled eggs. Sleepy Cactus is a great option for a unique Tex-Mississippi breakfast! We will be back because I want to try the chicken fajita salad and roasted street corn!

Yelp
Visiting family from out of town and spotted this cute restaurant while dining at BBB so decided we would pay it a visit before we left. The vibes are chill only a few tables inside but plenty of outdoor seating for the cooler days. The staff was friendly and our order came out pretty quickly (within 10 min). I am not a breakfast person so I wanted to order the spicy chicken sandwich they had as a special but I was about 20 minutes to early for lunch so they could not make it. I instead ordered the Gas Station Biscuit Casserole with my eggs on the side as it seemed like a savory dish and my husband got 2 tacos (1 with chorizo and the other brisket). My dish was wonderful so savory had the perfect spice and was a great serving size. My husbands tacos were full of flavor and not too filling. I also got a rainbow rice crispy treat which was so good (100% of the proceeds go to lgbtqia). We will definitely be back (a little later in the day) so I can try some of their lunch options.

Yelp
Closed permanently? I showed up at 11 am and not a soul around and paint buckets in the doorway... UGH Why with so many great reviews is it closed and STILL on Yelp? I'll have to go somewhere else.

Yelp
Really, really good. We just found our new place to frequent. They source ingredients locally and make their own tortilla. I had the BET; ie. bacon, egg, tomato. Delicious! Everything was so fresh. It was very clean with an nice atmosphere. People were very welcoming. Great service.

Yelp
Such a great addition to the oxford food scene! The vegan tacos, agua fresca, and cold brew were delish. Perfect quiet spot for a morning pick me up!!
