Tour the Sacramento Area’s Best Breweries With Rob Archie of Pangaea Bier Cafe | Eater SF

"At Slice — located just west of Auburn and helmed by head brewer and co-owner Zack Frasher — I found a hops-obsessed brewer who leans into West Coast IPA styles rather than hazy IPAs; Mega Mo blends Mosaic whole cone and cryo to emphasize a sultry hop dank rather than bright citrus, and Gruesome Greens (a collaboration with Ghost Town Brewing) blends Nelson, Riwaka, Mosaic, and Simcoe cryo hops into a verdant, herbal, piney profile, which demonstrates how Frasher works with hops like very few can." - Lou Bustamante

Google
Quaint friendly location. Nice area to walk, drink great beers and grab a meal. A smart stop for local vibe while in Lincoln.

Google
Slice beer is such a gem in Lincoln. We've had so many great beers from here and we love the new outdoor seating they added. If you're a fan of quality craft beer, check out Slice beer next time in town! A++

Google
Great place to visit! They have this beer thing figured out... Very Tasty! I've been back a few times now. Still so good...

Google
Nice little brewery in a beautiful location in Lincoln. A true gem for IPA lovers. Not being one of them I still enjoyed a flight of hazies, and found their sour particularly good. I'll come back for sure and bring some friends this time.

Google
It's the bar, where everyone knows your name and they are glad you came. A small " CHEERS " type atmosphere. The patrons are friendly and the beer goes down easy. It's a great 1st date spot, because it's cozy and the music is the perfect volume to carry on a conversation. *UPDATE*As much as I love this brewery, I wouldn't go in the summer. It doesn't feel like there's any air-conditioning. Slice sells quickly of their 4 pack beers. I wasn't able to grab any of the beer I wanted to take home. IG: SACRAMENTOHONEY

Google
My favorite brewery in Lincoln! They have a new release on Fridays (random Fridays it seems). Always love the different beer types on tap!

Jenn D.

Google
I can't say enough good things about Slice. We love this spot! The people, the BEERS, the atmosphere. OTP is right next door, so you can order whole or by the slice pizza. Other reviewers say their small taproom is a downside; I disagree. It's nice to actually have a conversation with the people you're with. Perfect date night spot. That's kind of Slice's MO -- they're not like the other gargantuan breweries around, and I dig that.

Michael H.

Google
Small location. Very passionate and knowledgeable beertenders. Plenty of small batch heavily rotated beers most of which were IPAs and all of which were tasty. Kinda wished they had more styles.

Yelp
Came for their 6th Anniversary. The venue itself is not that big however it is doesn't feel overwhelming. The service for pours are quick. They also have cute merch on their wall of pins, stickers, hats and apparel. Tried their sour beer which was amazing!

Yelp
I was finally in the area and able to give them a try after hearing great things about them. The beer and service were good. I enjoyed my flight of some hazy and west coast IPAs. I do just wish that there was a little more indoor seating and a bit more variety of beers although from what I've heard IPAs are their main focus.

Yelp
Slice just celebrated their 5 year anniversary. So glad to have this brewery so close to us . I love love the craft beers here . They release new beers often so you get really excited to try the new releases coming up. The inside is fairly small, but they have a cute sliding window that opens up to the outside. They recently created a patio space for the out front. I am so glad they did this. It definitely creates more space for families and friend to gather and have some good cold ones on a nice warm day . Izzy has helped us the last few times and she is just so friendly and attentive. If you want to sample anything before committing to a certain beer, she will definitely let you sample so you could pick accordingly. They also have plenty of cans to go. They do not have food there, but they do have an ordering system that you could order from Old Town Pizza next-door and they will deliver it to you. Pretty sweet because we all know Old Town Pizza is the best pizza in town. They also have some very cute merch. I really love their brown beanie. Overall, I highly recommend this brewery if you are a IPA drinker . We will definitely be coming back .

Yelp
I wasn't a big fan of this place, but keep in mind I didn't get pizza or anything here, just beer. It was my first time and we came with a big group. The ambiance outside and vibe in downtown was cute. The place was packed and it took awhile to get everyone beers, they mostly only have IPAs which I'm not a fan of. I asked for suggestions and the girl said they were too busy to let me taste. Suggested one and so I ended up with a whole beer I didn't like so I didn't go back for another. There was also staff going in and out of a side door where ppl had to keep moving.

Yelp
One of the best breweries in CA known for its crisp west coast IPAs and lagers. They hardly distribute so make sure you pick up some 4packs to go. The place itself is not large but you can likely find a seating at one of the bar stools or tables. They offer both full sized pint pours as well as 5oz tasters, so you can try different ones across lagers, west coast IPAs, and hazy IPAs. They also allow you to bring in food, and often partner with pizza place next door.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE this place. Attached to Old Town Pizza which is awesome, so you can grab some pizza and enjoy some amazing beers. They have GREAT beers and an awesome selection. They're just good at what they do. It's impossible to find a beer that you won't love. The staff is super friendly, they know their beer, and they give great recommendations. The building is not big but it's great. They have seating that looks out to the street, seating at the bar, tables inside, and a bit of standing room. They have multiple TVs which allows you to watch sports or a show. BEERS TO-GO: They have a lot of beers to-go and I feel confident that you will not leave without beer to-go. SWAG: They have LOTS and LOTS of swag. From shirts to flannels to hats to stickers to tackers. PARKING: Since they're located in downtown/old Lincoln, there's street parking and a parking lot adjacent to the brewery. You shouldn't have an issue finding a spot even if you have to walk a little bit.

Yelp
Delicious beer with tons of options. Wonderful service and dogs allowed on the patio. Pizza place next door so you can grab a slice while drinking slice. Definitely will be back!
google avatar

Crystal H.

Yelp
We came here Friday around 3:45 and it was packed! Luckily we found some chairs near the only 1 restroom in the place. They are IPAs heavy here. We tried some hazies and a sour. Pretty good.
google avatar

Judy H.

Yelp
We came here on a Thursday around 6pm. The place was not crowded at all and we found an empty table for our party of five. The server at the register was friendly and knowledgeable. There is no food served here but there is an order screen for pizza delivery from Old Town Pizza (which we used today). The atmosphere was super chill today and we enjoyed our time here catching up with dear friends.
google avatar

Yelp
Legit craft brewery. Small inside but nice ambience. A lot of west coast IPA's when I visited, but they rotate a lot. Easy parking. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Maria K.

Yelp
Staff is always friendly and beers delicious! The space is small with a warm welcoming. They don't serve food but have an Old Town Pizza kiosk to order food that can be delivered to you!

Rick C.

Yelp
Talk about a local microbrewry that delivers on taste, quality, choices, and friendliness. The owner and entire staff are very friendly and helpful!! A true gem in downtown Lincoln for a brew n food next door from Old Town Pizza!
google avatar

Mario M.

Yelp
The best IPA's in the business. And it's not really close. Cool tap house and friendly staff. Hard to beat.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm not a stranger to venturing out of my way for something extraordinary. And when it comes to craft beer in Sacramento, it's hard to find anything better than Slice. Though the taproom wasn't open due to various lockdown restrictions, I would come here often during the pandemic for my can fix, but just recently had their beer as it's supposed to be enjoyed-fresh on tap. Slice taproom in downtown Lincoln, is next door to the sister pizza joint and is on a smaller side. Reminds me of Cellarmaker in SF, both its size and quality. If they are busy (and it doesn't take much for the room to get crowded) you will most likely be enjoying the beer standing, but finding better brews anywhere within 60 miles is a stretch. Brewer Zach and co-owner Russ are both familiar names in Sacramento (and CA) craft beer scene and pretty much a guarantee of quality. As long as there is a can release or something to take home, I don't mind a 45 minute drive. Even if not convenient, definitely worth it!

TJ M.

Yelp
Don't be me. Come here sooner. Great beer selection and quality. Wonderfully helpful and cheerful bartender. And a fast way to order Old Town Pizza. An oasis in Lincoln.
google avatar

Kasey D.

Yelp
Small town beer but in a big town way. Flavorful IPAs, stouts, and everything in between! Had the wonderful opportunity to try everything on tap and everything was absolutely fantastic!! Cheers to a brewery that "gets it". Thank you for having IPAs made with desirable hops, and stouts with adjuncts that are to trend. I am quite optimistic with what the future holds for this new brewery. Go grab a pizza from next door and settle in for some pints or a flight.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, excellent beer. Was trying to find a place to grab a good beer that wasn't some random run of the mill IPA, think I found my new spot. Folks who are serving you are super nice and helpful. Tight quarters and hyper skunk are excellent choices, though I loved everything I had. Reminded me a bit of one of my favorite breweries, ghost town. No food is served here but the folks helping us out pointed us to an excellent taco place less than a block away. Definitely swing by.
google avatar

Mari R.

Yelp
What I love about this brewery they have a beer for everyone. They are open inside and they also put some tables and tents outside. There is street parking and a decent parking lot to the left of the building. All of the staff has been pretty nice and they keep the place very clean. They have some cool merchandise for sale and they come up with new things constantly. M-T 3-10pm F-Sun 11am- 10pm Order.slice beer.com

Yelp
Can't go wrong with their beer selection. They don't serve food but can bring your own. Family friendly and the staff is super helpful with making the right choice of beer you'd like. The only downside is that it's small and not a lot of room to sit. Other than that it would totally recommend this place for beer lovers. Cheers

Yelp
You can tell how well thought out their products are by the level of detail in them. The table tops are high quality wood, the flight taster board has exceptional detail, and their brews are all fantastic. Extra points for playing good hip hop music and having a Hayao Miyazaki anime film + football playing in the background. Come here if you want to have a high quality brewery experience.

Gregory T.

Yelp
We've been in a few times. Tonight was one of my favorite by far. We talked to Julia and she was so warm, wonderful and personable. She made it an even better experience that we normally enjoy here. All the beers were great, she gave good recommendations, and she was so nice to talk to. Thank you Julia!
google avatar

Yelp
If I could go 3.5 stars I would. The IPAs are good, but I didn't find them to be spectacular or anything. There was a distinct lack of variety too, Only 2 beers on tap weren't some sort of IPA. Now, hoppy beers are my jam but I like having the option of different styles of beer to choose from when I go to a brewery. The space is super small, and it was absolutely freezing inside until they closed the doors. I also wasn't a fan of the "short pours" as I call them. Only 4 of their beers were available in pints. Everything else was poured in smaller glasses. I totally get it when the beer is high ABV or super rare, but when it was 2/3 of their menu. That kinda sucked. All in all, good beer. Not great, but good.

Yelp
For the Northern Cal hopheads we can all rejoice that Slice is now opened and pumping out quality offerings coming right out of the gate. I made my trek to Lincoln yesterday for their can release. Lincoln is a nice little town if you have never been through there. Slice is in same building as Old Town Pizza. I was told you can order food over there and come eat at brewery. I enjoyed many beers they had on tap. I worked through a few 5oz pours and enjoyed all of them. I ended up getting several crawlers filled for Christmas celebration Really nice vibe here and the beer is very solid. I look forward to the next batches of deliciousness to come out.
google avatar

Bruce O.

Yelp
I came here at about 2 PM on a Sunday afternoon with my brother and a friend. The seating area is very cozy with about six bar seats and a few tables and stools. They had about 15 beers on tap, including a couple, West Coast IPAs, a double IPA, triple IPA, a few hazy IPAs, and a number of other styles. The guy behind the counter was friendly and attentive. I only tried the triple IPA and one of the West Coast IPAs and both were outstanding. There is a pizza place next-door that I think is owned by the same guy that owns the brewery. I think you can bring your pizza in. They also carry four packs of their beers that you can buy. I don't think you can get their beer in stores. Definitely a worthwhile brewery to add to your checklist.

Yelp
Great new brewery in Lincoln Ca. Good beer friendly staff and attentive service. Nicely built out tap room. The beer is well crafted. As they mature it will be interesting to see where they take their flavor profile. The beer at present is nicely done. It has a base grain bill that tastes very similar, and is differentiated by an interesting hop mix. They appear to have a nice late hop addition technique, which holds up well as you consume it. Nicely done great addition to our local family breweries! Bravo and Cheers!!
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Brand new venue! Nice downtown location. Lots of nearby options to bring in food. I had two excellent beers that I would definitely return to (if I didn't live a continent away). Hand Candy was in your face coconut--in a good way. Multiple Dimensions was a solid double IPA. It is a small, but adequate space. Can imagine it would get loud when busy. Two things I would wish for. Dogs and lose the big screen TVs.
google avatar

TRACY R.

Yelp
Dear Families: no children allowed! Sees guy sitting at the door with Slice Shirt on. Me: Are you a bouncer? Bouncer: yes Freaking out inside because I'm with my three year old Me: Does that mean no kids. (I know that means no kids, but needed confirmation at 4pm in the afternoon) Bouncer: yes, no one under 18. You can go next door to the pizza place and get drinks if you want. I left and waited for my husband in the car as he picked up cans bc we came for beer. Not pizza. Apparently the beer at this place won people's choice for two of their beers, Double IPA and Tripple IPA For the 20th IPA Festival. Brought the cans home. The beer was really good quality. The Triple IPA was my favorite.
google avatar

Tricia A.

Yelp
Beer is pretty solid. 3rd visit to Slice and probably the last. The energy and ambiance is horrible here. Server (again) had the personality of a turd in a milk bottle. Want to support local...but when you have never received proper customer service, a hello, thank you, how are you doing..hard to support. You are not doing me a favor for being there. There are plenty of other places to support.

Alex M.

Yelp
I, a true American in this patriotic holiday weekday, have come to appreciate the value of a good, locally brewed beer that appreciates their customers and loyal fan base. As a tourist, hanging with locals, who support and drink local, I can sense and see this from all the interactions from the staff the appreciation they have for this community. Remember that the local "hole in the wall" is the heart of a community where we can all enjoys brews, support local, and create camaraderie amongst us. #DrinkLikeALocal

Yelp
This place came highly recommended, we are new to the area, and did not disappoint! Beer was fantastic, servers incredibly friendly and the pizza from next door was spot on! Will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Colin W.

Yelp
If you think you've had the best beer you're ever going to have in your life, but you have yet to be to or enjoy a Slice Beer, then you have not and you're simply lying to yourself. Slice is the brewery that your favorite brewery wishes they were. With a plethora of Beer types that will please any pallet along with a never-ending release of new and great beers weekly, the only downside to Slice is that it may take a few months for you to be able to try your favorite beer of there's again, but they never disappoint with incredible beers weekly to keep you satisfied until your favorite one comes back around, but even with that, one of the new beers is bound to become your eventual favorite as well.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Best IPAs in California, perhaps the entire country. All beers are fairly priced too.
google avatar

Kurt M.

Yelp
Amazing selection, friendly staff that know all the characteristics and processes used to create their award winning beers.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
My son brought me here to taste a few beers. Of course they weren't open for a real tasting but the gals were super helpful and very knowledgeable about the beers they had available. Will definitely return when I can sit and have a flight!!
google avatar

Kurt T.

Yelp
Had these guys beer at the IPA fest earlier this year. Stopped by when I was in the area and the beer is so good and fresh. I shoulda bought more since I live far away. Gonna have to make another trip here soon.
google avatar

B H.

Yelp
Place has been on my radar for months but its either not open when I'm in the area or.... I'm never in the area lol. Unfortunately for them, they aren't open for dine in but we passed thru when they were OPEN and we got to go cans. All the beers were great. They looked like they were hurtin due to pandemic so if in the area, go buy some 4 packs. You won't be disappointed. Support the small brew businesses!
google avatar

Rowan V.

Yelp
I am super impressed with this small town brewery. In my experience with new craft breweries, it takes a year or so to produce a consistent flavor in their beers. Slice from the first sip (from IPAs to Stouts), were great tasting and consistent with the flavors associated with each beer type. Very well done and very much enjoyed, I will be recommending this stop for those touring Lincoln breweries!!
google avatar

Kathy S.

Yelp
I'm giving three stars because the beer is excellent. The bartender changed another group using the card I left open and if I didn't have alerts set up on my phone from my bank then the gentleman would have left with my debit card. The owner or manager was sitting on his computer ordering supplies and even though I seemed distressed did nothing to calm me or help out the girl working who by the way told me she always worries something like that will happen. Maybe you should check the name first then. Just an idea. I won't be back.
google avatar

Ted N.

Yelp
Got the goodies in hand. Wish I could of sat for a few samples but already packed. Glad it's close to home
google avatar

Caroline B.

Yelp
5 out of 5 John was on top of it all. It was a busy Sunday and he juggled all the customers with great finesse! We will be back! Great beer great service!
google avatar

Lowell C.

Yelp
great ale, great service, especially if you like citra hop brews.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried again- we were scolded and chased away from Slice's picnic benches after we purchased a 4 pack of Slice beer and thought to drink the slice beer while sitting at Slice beer's tables. I suppose this could fall back on stupid laws but really, hypothetically if we come in and ask for a certain beer but that certain beer is only in a can, you can always open that can and pour us that beer and charge us the price and let us sit outside with the glass (vs. doing it ourselves with a can) and actually win. But no.... you have Beer Patrol Patty out there sitting on the sidelines waiting to chase us away and give us an awful experience and make sure we never come back and further write bad reviews of your crappy business. Zero stars.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
It's really hard to go wrong with any of the beers at SLICE. They do an excellent job, with highest quality, and friendly service too. The taproom can get crowded; it is a bit small. Luckily Old Town Pizza is next door and if it gets too busy you can take refuge and get some excellent pizza, too. Two thumbs up, and if I had more hands there's be even more thumbs up!
google avatar

Yelp
I've always been a fan of their beers. Anytime I could get my hands on some here in SF, I'm on it. Always supporting them. Last night I placed an order for some beer and a sweatshirt. I was so stoked about the sweatshirt. After receiving a confirmation that my order would be there at 11:30. I couldn't wait to go pick up some fresh beer from them. Took the day off from work, drove 2 hours out to Lincoln, get there,go to the pick up window, and they tell me "SORRY. We don't have the sweatshirt that you ordered. We only have a medium one." I even got a confirmation text this morning telling me my order was COMPLETE and ready for pick up. I was able to get my money refunded at least. The guy gave me 2 little stickers. Wow. Drove 2 hours from SF for 2 stickers. I know the beer is gonna be great though. Their brews always are. Just bummed AF
google avatar

Darlene B.

Yelp
Wow!!! Slice has figured out thee IPA world. Delicious beer. Loved Turbo Nectar and liquid Arts. Small spot but lovE talking to the bartender about beer. Awesome spot!!
google avatar

Cameron B.

Yelp
Simply amazing beer. Used their online ordering to pick up a few Crowlers of Tight Quarters and was not disappointed. Keep up the great work
google avatar

Kathryn U.

Yelp
Love this place! I'm not into the hops, but the hubby loves all of them. His favorite is the Original Juice. My favorite is the Hand Candy, it's coconutty and delicious! We're so happy to have this new brewery in Lincoln, much needed for us millennials .

Russ G.

Yelp
I would give Slice six stars if I could. The brewer, the management, and the staff are all amazing. Lincoln is lucky to have this destination brewery, I would drive a long ways to buy their beer, and I've met many people who have done just that. The West Coast IPAs are world class. Most are big on dry hop character with relatively low malt and bitterness. They feature giant aromas and crisp clean finishes. Many have already won awards, and are sure to win many more. Just go!
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Friendly small business that deserves growth but will happen in time. Best beer in Lincoln, always welcoming with great customer service. I go there all the time and will continue to do so.
