15 Budget-Friendly Restaurants in the Twin Cities

"Adam Kado and Hosie Thurmond’s new University Avenue location of Slice Brothers Pizza slings New York-style slices for $5 and under. A classic cheese slice is just $3.99; supreme, chicken bacon, dill pickle ranch, and other specialties are $4.99 — these are big slices, and very foldable." - Justine Jones, Alex Lodner

I love thin crust pizza. Perfect place to grab and slice at lunch. They always have 3-5 different pizza flavors to choose from. They have canned and bottled soda along with canned beer. Give them a try!

I was excited for this new pizza place to come to STP & black owned! I love Pizza. This wasn't it. So disappointed. It's not a freshly made piece of pizza first off. You select from the pizza at counter. They reheat for you. BURNT. Very Very thin crust Like I said I love Pizza. So a lil Char on bottom is sometimes good if your cooking in a stone oven. This wasn't the case. To taste As To the flavor of the pizza. The cheese had flavor or maybe have been the tiny teaspoon of sauce. Was flavorful I like to have some sauce on pizza. There's None. As To the staff or owner or cashier They had no smiles on face. No greetings upon entering. Customer service goes along way. They were Dry just like the pizza. I'M SO DISAPPOINTED BEYOND WORDS. I LOVE PIZZA

Finally had a chance to try Slice. Plenty of flavor options to choose from. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch and dill pickle slices. Hot and ready in just a few minutes. Absolutely delicious, big NY style slice, and I enjoyed the flavor in both! The manager was friendly and helped me figure things out on my first visit! I enjoyed my slices so much that I ordered a box of Buffalo chicken and pineapple chicken to take home. The rest of the family enjoyed the pizza I brought home! First and definitely not the last time I will eat Slice Brothers Pizza!

New pizza place in town, I was graving a slice of pizza and found this local place . I saw the review it made me hesitant. Went at my lunch time parking was a but difficult it was busy. Went inside I saw the employee ready to take my order, he was getting trained which I loved because the other employee was right next to him confirming everything been a great trainer . There was a employee who spoke Spanish and some English , thus employee communicated with her with the little Spanish he knew and got the job done . Even saw each other helping helping a customer who only spoke Spanish came in. Food: It's was cheesy 🧀, three things I look for In a pizza place is taste , look, and cheese. Cheese was perfect and obviously you will have to reheat it unless its a fresh made pizza on the monet which takes 15 minutes, but the slices which are ready they heat them up about 2-5 minutes which my two slices came toasty and cheesy . Taste, was good can't complain. The only thing I say is the grease there's a bit to much due to the pepperoni which is ok I would watch out what type of deli meat you are using . The look is perfect. I saw a review of someone saying the pizza was burnt or nasty . I can say it's looks good below i added a picture and my first bite lol . I give it a 5 star due to the cleanliness od the bathrooms and area and the staff The food is good for a nice little date or lunch. I would recommend this for the price I will be comming here once a week.

I stopped in for their dollar slice promotion and got two slices of pepperoni. The pizza didn’t look the most appetizing sitting in the case but was very tasty. I don’t think I’d pay $4 for a slice but was happy I went.

So happy to have a Slice location in St. Paul!!! I really like their pizza. The pickle pizza is a forever fave and other slices have been good too. It was ready quickly. The staff was cool. Parking in the back. And a bright and fun space for dining in. My only feedback would be to get some different chair options. Those metal half-arm type chairs are cute but not very comfortable for larger folks.

We came in for happy hour and tried the plain cheese, pickle ranch, pepperoni, and meat slices. They were all fresh and the pickle ranch and pepperoni were our favs. Can’t wait to try the other specialty pizzas! I dig the minimalist atmosphere, but I wasn’t fan of the TVs. From their website it isn’t clear if they deliver or what their delivery area is for this store; every address I tested nearby says delivery is not available. I tried asking on IG but didn’t get an answer. Edit: I checked for delivery the same day as the review, but now I see it is showing up! Unfortunately I don't use third party delivery services, I was hoping for an in-house delivery driver but I get it. As for the TVs, the TVs as menus were really annoying to read as the cycled between the regular menu, which had a lot to read on it, and two meal options. It took a while to order because we needed to keep waiting for the TV to cycle back to the regular menu. As for the other TVs, at one point an employee turned up the volume to the point we had to raise our voices to hear each other.

Yelp
The pickle pizza is surprisingly good. I'd recommend. Reasonably priced, fair service

Yelp
Enjoyed a couple of slices at their newest location in St. Paul! Online ordering is an option. There's a shared parking lot adjacent, right off of university ave. No current special pizza option. Seems like they're willing to make a slice/pie of anything you want from the menu if it's not out and ready. Had a pickle slice at their NE location which was good. The veggie and buffalo chicken were okay. I think I waited too long to eat them at home- probably could have used a reheat. The slices are heated and boxed to go, or you can sit in and eat. Love this affordable, flavorful slice shop!

Yelp
A small corner stop right by the Green Line Dale St. Station. There's lots of activity around the area and it was nice to walk in and be greeted by a friendly woman who helped serve us. There's a self-serve ordering kiosk which we took advantage of. We each got two slices of pizza and ate them right there, while they're hot and fresh! My cheese pizza was so good - it had a nice thin crust and wasn't too greasy. The place has a few diner style tables, really clean bathroom male and female bathrooms and 90s jams on the tv. For a quick place to stop for lunch, this was it!

Yelp
I love this place. It's such a vibe with the large open windows letting in natural light with the high ceilings. It's a great place to bring a family. The pizzas were really good and the service was fast. I had the pickle pizza which was the perfect amount of toppings, sauce and cheese. It was salty, sour, and deep savory in the perfect harmony. Prices were very reasonable for portion size. I would recommend this for high schoolers to catch an affordable bit, families, or a cute date night. They also have a few parking spaces on-site or very easy light rail access.

Yelp
I came here for my first taste of the Dill Pickle Ranch pizza and it was very good. I wish it had more pickles though. The pickle taste wasn't overpowering. You could taste the dill, a slight sour and bitter taste of the pickles and I didn't taste a strong ranch flavor? I bought it by the slice and they reheat it so maybe from it sitting out, it looses its intense ranch flavor or maybe it's supposed to be very subtle? Regardless, it was good. Loved the Brooklyn style thin crust where you can fold it while eating it, but crust is crispy enough that it still holds its shape. I'd definitely order the pickle pizza again but have it made fresh to go with extra pickles.

Yelp
The pizza is generously sized and reheated in the oven to give you the oven fresh taste and temp. The flavors are good. My only thought was I would like more sauce on the slice. The store was clean and well staffed. Staff was friendly and helpful too. I might try ordering a whole pie and asking for a heavier hand with the sauce. Will let you know the results.

Yelp
Finally tried a pickle pizza! For being a reheated parbake slice - it really wasn't half bad! I loved the sauce. And the price was great. I'd get it again.

Yelp
I'm glad to see a new pizza joint in Frogtown. I've been their twice now and rave reviews. The available slice selection is good enough for a quiet afternoon. What really shines is the crust tho. Fantastic had tossed chewy texture, but more importantly, the bottom of the crust is so perfectly caramelized and tasty. A perfect contrast of textures in every bite. Super delicious slices and the last time I stopped close to closing time, they sent me home with a free slice. So great staff besides the slices!
