Yelp
Slice House opened recently on Kettner Bl in Little Italy by Tony G., an award winning pizza maker...sorry I don't know of this guy or any newer food channel chefs because I lost interest after the late Tony Bourdain left us...but I stopped by to try the pizzas.
Lucky me, I instantly got a parking spot steps away and it was gratis yay. The sidewalk from my parking spot to the pizza shop was clean. There's outdoor, indoor seating and they offer pizza slices, which is great for Me, because I don't want to order a whole pizza pie, because I don't want to eat pizza for a week lol
There's a daily menu list of Detroit style, which are square and thicker. There's also a daily menu list of New York style, a thinner crust which I prefer. Upon entry, the staff greeted me and was nice, helpful and patient as I asked lots of questions about ingredients and content. So far my favorite pizza in San Diego is Bronx pizza's Whitestone with spinach and ricotta, sadly a version of that is not offered here :(
The pizza slices here were large, but were also priced higher than the norm. Have been here twice and tried both the New York slices: Wise Guy and America's Finest, the layer is sesame seeded crust with vodka sauce, was tasty by a tad dry. The wise guy had too much sausage and pepperoni which I don't eat, offered it to my pup Fendi, but she rejected it...she's the wise one!
My subsequent visit, I wanted to try the Detroit style pizza and got the 'Little Italy,'
which had some pepperoni, but I picked and removed and instead added hot Calabrian chili olive oil for added spice, but wasn't spicy all, but maybe my Scolville level can tolerate close to burning numbness so...this pizza tasted good with a thicker crust but if you've had Prince Street Detroit pizza, their crust is superior to this Slice House Detroit pizza, because it's missing this millimeter of crispness followed by fluffy dough. Slice House Detroit pizza is just fluffy dough. I suggest they bake it a smudge longer to achieve the desired crispy crust texture.
Wish the veggie pizza is offered by the slice Daily for people like me who prefers a greener version. I wanted to order a salad but during both visits, there wasn't any forks available, which is a management issue for lack of oversight. Turns out, I would not have enjoyed eating a salad from here since all the utensils are plastic, a major turn off.
Among the positives here: the pizzas are edible, the staff are nice, the indoor seating has a TV monitor on a sports channel and cool music playing in the background and pup friendly at a new, clean place made it a positive dining experience. Recommend
