Where to Eat On the Road in Between Dallas and Austin | Eater Dallas

"Located across the highway from Czech Stop, Slovacek’s is the clutch move when it comes to pre-Austin road trip fare. The selection of pastries and snacks is broader than Slovacek’s nearby competitor, and the kolaches are solid. There’s also a meat market if you need to scratch a sausage or brisket itch." - Courtney E. Smith

This place is a gem! The bbq, the bakery, the atmosphere, and the service is exceptional. Dine and shop the most unique gift items anywhere around all in one place. And, don't miss the frozen yogurt!

We stopped in on our way back from San Antonio, we had seen this place on the Texas bucket list. Great prices on gas so we filled up. Staff was friendly and bathrooms were clean. We ate a sliced brisket sandwich, it was so good I forgot to take pictures. We bought some souvenirs and some kolachies and the orange pound cake as well as some cheese and beef sticks. Everything was amazing! We also stopped at the Christmas store and bought a few things. This place didn't disappoint we will be back! If your in the area we highly recommend!

Google
I really dig this joint. Yes the sausage sammy on their unique bread is a must, and there is lots of focus on the nifty bakery, but I thought I’d share some pics of their top notch meat market which I think sometimes gets overlooked with all the offerings in the expanded shop. Don’t pass this place up if u can avoid it peeps.

Google
This is a maximalist stop for sure! We stopped for lunch - regular sized portions, for a good fair price. Everyone is raving about the kolaches - my husband loved them. To me they were dry, I was a bit sad, maybe the day old kolaches are better for others like me that like a soft bread kolache. Plenty of things to look at and enjoy (or buy). Bathrooms are tidy. Over all we did enjoy our stop here.

Google
This is one of the best rest stops I've ever been to. There is a huge selection of bread and kolaches and cinnamon rolls, there's something for everyone. Not to mention, they are all well priced. Everyone working here was super nice and helpful. Be sure to make this a stop on your next road trip!!

Google
Great kolaches. Plenty of fruit / sweet kolaches - we got apricot, strawberry, peach and they were all great. Sadly there are no savory kolaches without meat. They also sell a bunch of other things - meats, coffees, souvenirs etc. Location - exit 353 on I35. If you are driving from Dallas to Austin, it’s immediately after you exit. South west corner of I 35 and intersection.

I am from Snook where the original Slovacek's is, so I usually make this my stop when heading out this direction. A huge selection of kolaches, sausage rolls and other pastries. Meat market, beer cooler. Clean restrooms, souvenir items, decor for the yard, Czech items, floral, and more. It's like a mini Buc-ee's. Check out the Christmas store next door. Nice dog park here. Lots of Exxon pumps for passenger cars and larger ones for RVs and trucks (Gas and Diesel). Large parking areas.

Google
A very special spot! We stop every time we pass and look forward to it every time. Excellent bakery with kolaches galore of a variety of types. Many great clean bathrooms.

Yelp
Love coming here! Hands down one of the best kolaches places I've been to. It's a must for every roadtrip. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Our favorite kolache is the strawberry with cream cheese as well as the stuff pepperoni kolaches!

Yelp
Best kolaches in Texas. Also, the pastries are 100% too [Ignore this text, yelp requires more characters to post... Dumb ]

Yelp
I will now not ever again deliberately stop in West TX to get brisket here. The deli server courteously asked what I wanted and I told her (she has just before me cut per order for the gentleman ahead), WET (fatty) brisket (sandwich). She ignored me and cut regular. I repeated my request and she disregarded. For now on, ONLY Wright's BBQ in Johnson AR for me.

Yelp
Had to stop on my way home to Dallas from Round Rock. The variety of kolaches is always a hit for me! I ordered the boudin, brisket, cherry cheese and strawberry cheese kolaches. All were excellent! My husband, daughter and I loved them! Everyone always so nice, professional and they are quick! it's a store of souvenirs, as well, so you can find something in addition to the food to commemorate the visit.

Yelp
Love to stop and grab some snacks top off the gas. We always bring some sausage home with us to throw on the grill, plenty of varieties, and always delicious .

Yelp
Stopped by for our first visit and we loved it! We got a 2 meat plate with ribs and brisket, veggies and potatoes. We also picked up socks for my family and kolaches both sweet and savory. Everything was really good so far. We can't wait to return and try more.

Yelp
This is my new favorite stop in west Texas!! The jalapeño poppers were so so good! The pizza kolache and the brisket one were so good! The lady that helped us was amazing! So much patience from her to my family that can't decide which kolache to pick from! The big boy kolache was good! Must have!! Can't wait to go back the store is huge! So much to see !!

Yelp
If you're looking to stop in the infamous West Texas for a treat, just know there is more than one place to get a good kolache or meal. Slovacek's is on the southbound side of the exit, making it very easy to get on/off the highway, especially when headed south from Dallas to Austin. Quaint shopping with tons of gear from your favorite team or that little trinket or even the jerky you wanted. A wide array of items to look at and shop. The back of the store finds a counter with delicious pastries and a kitchen with many items like brisket and pulled pork, along with all the best sides. As them to warm the kolaches for an even better treat. Everyone is always friendly and you'll find plenty of parking as well. This is actually my preferred stop in West!

Yelp
I love this place! By far the best gas station rest stop on the drive from DFW to Austin. They have everything from dried meats to pastries. They also have a lovely home decor section and separate decor store. Depending on the time of day there is often a line for the deli/bakery. Don't be discouraged, they are super efficient and get to everyone quickly. I am obsessed with their Texas sugar cookies. They are super tasty. The perfect ratio of frosting to cookie. They'd prices are super affordable as well. Check them out!
google avatar

Yelp
This place has the meat! They have some really delicious sausage and I love the armadillo eggs and rattlesnake eggs!!! They are jalapeño peppers stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped with sausage and then wrapped with bacon!!!! The peppered bacon is to die for and they have the best milk. Oooh, I highly recommend you trying the bbq brisket sandwiches at the deli. Even the bake beans have brisket in them as well. Also, they are fairly priced and not much of a difference than the grocery store. If I lived close to them I would buy all my meat from them. I don't know what cows they got but all the steaks I've bought from them are tender. The service is just good as the meat. This place is not only a bbq hotspot and a meat market/bakery , it's has unique items for home decor. I highly recommend

Yelp
4th of July the family came in and I decided to purchase the Tailgate Package for the celebration. Talking about the perfect choice---- We were late pick it up but Jackie kept it just as it should be. The food was incredible. Everything was at the right temperature and the flavor the best ever. The brisket was just lean but just enough fat to be flavorful and tender, pull pork was wonderful and the barbeque turkey is now one of my favorites. The sides were just the right amount and everyone took some home for later. We had 10 people. I will plan to repeat my order when the family and friends come. It was well worth the trip from Calvert to get it just for this occasion. Next time, I'll add dessert! Thank you Slovachek - You are GREAT

Yelp
If you find yourself driving down 35 between DFW and Austin, you need to stop at Slovacek's and get kolaches. Slovacek's is also a gas station so you can stop for gas and get a snack, or just stop for the snack. The spots right up front can get full, but they have plenty of parking beside the building. When you walk into the store, you might get overwhelmed by all the souvenirs and trinkets they have, the store is a decent size and they really pack it full of stuff. Now if you are there for the kolaches, you'll want to walk towards the back. They have a few cases full of kolaches. They have meat ones and fruits ones, and they also have other baked goods too. They usually have a line for the kolaches but it moves fast. I recommend standing behind the line and looking at all the different flavors they have before you get in line. Last time I was there I got the pepperoni and peach with cream cheese, and both were phenomenal. You can get other things from this store, but to me the kolaches are the reason to stop.

Yelp
Have seen this so many times in Texas Bucket List that I decided to stop on way back from Dallas. It's not good. Ordered a pizza and bacon cheeseburger kolache. Basically horrible. Sad because I really thought it would be excellent. And at $5 each it was overpriced.
google avatar

Zahkyia H.

Yelp
While on a mini road trip from Dallas to Austin I discovered the most amazing pastries and BBQ at this truck stop. The Kolaches are huge and the bread is fluffy and delicious. I also ordered a few different flavored pasties and Texas sized Cinnamon roll- all very good. They also have cheese, specialty meats and other delicious food. Service was a 10/10. Everyone is so happy and fun to talk to. They get your order right out and keep the lines moving. Also, check out the cutest clothing, home decor and travel essentials.
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyed our first try- it was late right before they closed so i'm sure it would be better earlier. overall though, it was pretty decent bbq. sausage is better than the brisket. staff was super friendly. the sides were pretty good- potatoes have a lot of oil in them. the staff really all around the store were very helpful and kind. the store has a lot of fun things to look at and shop for! great selection! super cute ambiance to sit to eat surrounded by christmas decor.

Yelp
As you'd expect, this was a sensory overload experience but so far everything I've eaten is totally worth it!! I had a jalapeño ranch chicken salad sandwich for the drive home. It was delicious, savory and with the right crunch & kick from jalapeños. I warmed up a couple kolaches at home, peach cream cheese and a Nutella cream cheese and OMGGGGG!!! Both are delicious! The peach had amazing flavor while the Nutella was decadent. I have several other flavors to try, a couple meat kolaches and a sausage plate - will report back! Little ones had brisket and it was delicious!

Yelp
8-2023 This is a massive place, stocked full of home decor, outdoor yard decor, baked goods and meat. Ordered a few different items to take home, the fruit kolaches with and without cream cheese Ground meat kolaches there is so much more to choose from. Plenty of workers here. Many hands behind the counter to help move the line along. But only 2 cashiers at the end of the counter and one is shared between the bakery and food orders. One of the cash registers had technical difficulties and it caused a little bit of a bottleneck. Overall not a bad first visit here.
google avatar

Shayne S.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing. Wish it was closer. Everything from the spicy pickles, hot links to chubbies. This will be a regular stop ever time we visit Waco!

Yelp
Everyone knows that Texans love to talk Texas. I'm no exception, and something I love explaining to people who haven't been to Texas is that it's way more diverse than you think (topographically and in population). Central Texas has historic German and Czech communities/towns, for example - and it's something that a lot of people (even Texas) may not be aware of. West is a historic Czech community - known as the "Czech Heritage Capital of Texas" and the home of the kolache. Whenever I'm in the area, I always want to stop for a kolache, which is a Czech pastry of yeast dough and various fillings (sweet or savory). There are lots of places you can get kolaches in West (and even in most Texas cities - I used to eat a less traditional version growing up in Dallas, where they were sold next to donuts at donut shops), but Slovacek's is an amazing option and well worth a stop. I was driving from Dallas to San Antonio with my brother earlier this month, and we made a point to stop at Slovacek's. (It's also a gas station, so two birds one stone!) The kolache counter is something special - so many varieties! I panicked and ordered the first four that called to me (brisket; sausage, cheese, and jalapeno; apricot and cream cheese; and prune), but while those were being warmed up, I saw so many more I wanted (how could I forget to get a poppy seed!??!?! Next time!). All four were great. If you're in the area, you should definitely stop by Slovacek's and try one of their many kolaches. It's a special Texas experience.
google avatar

Joanne J.

Yelp
I love this truck stop and can't wait to stop in whenever I'm on the 35. The kolaches are so, so, so, so good (yummy, yummy, yummy). My favorite is the poppyseed. Here you can buy beer, wine, meat, sausage, soda, fresh baked delicacies, clothes, socks, underwear, jewelry, postcards, candy, professional team paraphernalia, garden items, or take your dog for a long needed pee or poo. Oh and one more thing, you can buy gas! Slovacek's is a traveler's wonderland and great place to stretch your legs. Bathrooms are super clean and well maintained, if you gotta go. There is even a separate Christmas store on the property but I didn't have time to go in.
google avatar

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Very good kolaches! Fresh and warm they were delicious. The place was really packed when I got there, the bathrooms are clean and there were a decent number of them. Lots of kolaches to choose from, the staff seemed a bit forgetful but the kolaches were delicious. Light and fluffy bread with ooey gooey fruity fillings. You can't really go wrong with whatever type you decide to get!

Merlyn H.

Yelp
This is our favorite stop on the drive between Austin and Dallas. They have so many kolache options, including some I haven't seen anywhere else. My favorites are the cottage cheese and nutella kolaches. Yum! They also have a hot food counter, with BBQ plates and sandwiches. They make their own bread for the sandwiches. I had the pulled pork sandwich on our last stop and it was delicious. The bread and BBQ sauce were sweet and tasted great with the seasoned meat. They also have a dog park. Our pups love it; they get to run around while we eat snacks. Of course we share with them! We love this little highway stop; we can get everything here. We always end up with sweets to bring home for breakfast!
google avatar

Sabine F.

Yelp
Slovacek's deserve a five star for their experience. They offer everything g fro fresh cut meats to Christmas Ornaments. We love the kolaches and fudge the most. Went there twice in less than a month and kept buying the fudge and kolaches.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Stopped on my way home from Dallas to San Antonio...passed this place for years, and had only ever stopped at the Czech stop across the highway. Slovacek's is hands down a nicer, friendlier place than the Czech stop, and the Kolaches, my lord, the Kolaches. I had 1x jalapeño sausage and cheese, and 2x brisket--heated. I ordered three, but could only handle 2 in one sitting--so freakin' good!
google avatar

Clarice C.

Yelp
Continues to be a great stopping place from Dallas Metroplex to Austin. Clean and safe restroom, variety of snacks / food and gift ideas.
google avatar

Curt C.

Yelp
Get a kolache when you go through West! Slovacek follows in the West, Texas Czech tradition of churning out kolaches and peanut brittle, clean restrooms, and soda drinks! There's not only one kolache place in town, this is on the southbound 35 side. It's bigger, cleaner, and has more stuff than the competition across the highway. They have their own jerky shop, and a butcher serving up lots of sausages. You can get your own mix of meats from this gas station! They have their own merch, but none of it is too amazing or cute like Buc-ee's. A kolache is a piece of meat, typically a sausage, shoved inside a pastry roll, and baked. I went to the Czech Republic, but didn't see as kolaches as this place has. This town takes their kolaches seriously. I got a jalapeno cheese and sausage kolache, which was amazing. The staff was friendly and expedient. They were helpful with the kolaches, and have their own place among the merch to sit and eat, and just take it all in. It borders on hillybilly chic. They serve up gas- self-service. It's no problem getting in and out of here to get back on the highway in either direction.
google avatar

Marilyn B.

Yelp
This place has more Texas souvenirs than all souvenir shops combined and then some. The jerky is great. The people are friendly. And the place is without compare. If you are driving through West this is a must stop.
google avatar

Marcus R.

Yelp
This place has everything you will need from a rest area or fuel stop aspect. They have a family restroom and their restrooms are very clean by the way with air dryers to dry your hands and no doors to go in or out. The family restroom was the only bathroom that had a door. They have a huge selection of Kolaches and deserts. They even have a BBQ restaurant called the Kissing Pig. Definitely worth trying out! I was so full off a pulled pork and potato salad. There is even a meat market here to shop from. There was a lot to choose from in the market. With all that they even have a huge selection of souvenirs and some nice framed Texas art work at a reasonable price. With all these goodies it still offers what a local gas station would offer but a lot more. They have their fuel prices reasonable compared to the rest of the local competitors in the area. The down side with my recent update is that they don't too much of seating area to sit down and eat. They have a lot of space to shop from but to not sit and eat was not what I expecting from my previous experience to my recent experience after traveling from DFW to Austin. Also, the place felt more compact with the amount people stopping to visit now. I am happy there are a lot people stopping by. I also saw a new building that they may be putting all their out door in. I cannot confirm or deny it, but hopefully that's what they are doing so they can have move of a seating area so you don't have to eat in your car or outside depending on the weather. There are plenty more fuel stations to fill up your vehicle and they do have plenty of parking space a dog part for your puppies to get out and run around for a bit. Whether you're heading north or south on I-35 take exit 253 to get here. It's on the south bound side of big huge overpass they put in place here.
google avatar

Lowell O.

Yelp
Their apricot kolache is next to none. Very yummy. They must have put a whole apricot into that filling! Standard kolache options (cream cheese kolache and sausage kolache) are good but not better than other such kolaches you've tried. Brisket kolaches here are certainly not worth the $6 each that they charge you. They're full of chopped brisket (didn't taste smoked) in a tangy bbq sauce that didn't work as a kolache for me. Get the sliced brisket sandwich instead if you're here looking for brisket. The line was long, but not as long as the other place across the highway, and it moved along quickly.
google avatar

Carolyn P.

Yelp
This place is great. Right out of Waco so great place to stop on way home. So much to look at in a small space. I know they would love to be a Buc-ee's. Still lots of different stuff to find here. Very popular stop for sure. Had a really long line for food and dessert area. We just had to jump in to scope it out, even if we planned to stop at Buc-ee's. We got pineapple cake, lemon bar, jalapeños sausage, Koloches and purchased loaf of special bread. So good! In back of store they sell fresh meat and sausage. We would of loved some if we lived closer. Lots to shop for, t shirts, misc stuff.

Rachal W.

Yelp
Cute little place, things were over priced and they seriously charged for me to fill up our mugs that we brought in with water, and the water I don't think is even filtered. Not impressed won't be stopping on my way back.
google avatar

Valan V.

Yelp
Stopped on way through going home.. we were checking out the meat section, they have a very good salesman there. We saw something he would offer a sample to try. Gave very good advice. Service was excellent in every way possible. Place was very clean and organized. We lived any closer it would be expensive for us. Got home and have tried different ways to fix meats and also the sauces we bought. Thank You
google avatar

Mitzi M.

Yelp
I wanted to try this place since I heard a few people talking about it. I guess I'm spoiled with Weikel's and thought Slovacek's would be similar. I ordered almost $30 of kolaches, boudin kobasneks, and a cinnamon roll. Unfortunately, everything tasted over cooked. The breading was hard, and had little to no taste. There's a reason why they can stand their kolaches in the box, because they are hard. The filling is over cooked, too. The boudin was like a sausage, hard and no light and fluffy like boudin should be. The store itself is cute, bathrooms are fairly clean, and even though they have limited parking, we parked on the side. I really wanted to like this place, but it's a hard NO for me as I had to throw away pretty much everything I bought at the bakery counter.
google avatar

Susanne B.

Yelp
Nice clean roadside stop and gas station. Smaller than Bucees, but they have plenty of snacks on sale along with shirts and other souvenirs. They also sell sausages and are most famous for kolaches, square shaped donuts with a variety of fillings. We were impressed how many different varieties of fruit and fruit and cream cheese were offered along a long glass counter. Staff were friendly enough but definitely expected customers to make decisions quickly and move along. At around a dollar for a large pastry, kolaches are a good value. We tried lemon and peach and cream cheese varieties. They were not bad at all, pretty yummy in fact. But I was disappointed because they are just as sugary sweet and dense as any American donut. Having grown up in Europe, that's not what I expected. Out of childhood nostalgia I was hoping for more delicate textures and flavors. Again, kolaches are tasteful but to me they were much more Texas than Czech.
google avatar

Mary P.

Yelp
Do you like sausage? Kolaches? Knick knacks? Come to the place with all three. Your dog can run around in the back dog run. You can get Christmas stuff and support your college teams here. You can get gifts. The kolaches are good but I prefer them at the other location (they're more compact there). But if you're looking for a big clean spot this is way better than the place across the way. Their offerings are bigger like everything in Texas.
google avatar

Linda R.

Yelp
Anyone who has driven the Dallas to Waco route has passed Slovacek's in West. With extra time on our hands, Hubby and I decided to see what the inviting billboards are all about. Sloovacek's reminded us of a hometown Bucee's... gift shop, food, drinks, clean restrooms, and a little of everything. The kolaches counter was huge with so many choices of big kolaches. The sausages looked great and after trying the kolaches, we will bring a cooler the next time. There is a BBQ counter with very reasonable plates and a few tables enjoy the food on the spot. Hubby and I brought home an assortment of savory and sweet kolaches. The fillings were very generous with either a full link of sausage of stuffed with meat. The Big Boy sausage was definitely a favorite. Next time you are driving between Dallas and Waco, take a rest break at Slovacek's, you will be glad you did.
google avatar

Ricardo J.

Yelp
Trying to stick to a plant-based lifestyle and then coming to Slovacek's is like going to Harrah's and having a gambling problem. If you're gonna fall off the wagon, though, you should do it here where it's worth it. I bought hot links, jalapeño cheddar summer sausage, garlic sausages, red midget cheese, and some smoked cheddar. So far I have tried the hot links, summer sausage, and smoked cheddar. As you can see, I grilled the hot links to perfection and they made for great sandwiches. They had a snap to them and some honest heat. Not too much, but enough to get your attention and hold it. The jalapeño summer sausage, frankly, was probably the best I have experienced. There were actually jalapeños in it, which many other sausage makers leave scarce. The sausage went well in a homemade charcuterie board - a frequent meal at the casa. It went especially well with apples and/or wheat crackers. The smoked cheddar brought on all the smoky flavor you want of a smoked cheese. You could even see the smoke marks on it, which gave it a unique look. The flavor profile ran deep on this one. Bring a cooler and an appetite when you come here. There is so much to try here in their deli section. Sandwiches, kolaches, desserts, etc. The store is a Texas institution for a reason. It is a spectacle for all the senses and a true slice of Texas.
google avatar

Edwyn A.

Yelp
A good stopping point when headed southbound towards Austin. They have all the kolaches here many sweet ones with all the seasonal fruit flavors. I prefer the savory ones with sausage. The jalapeño sausage is spicy with actual bits of jalapeño. The dough is soft and sweet and the day after heats up well in the microwave. Past a day it gets pretty dry quickly. When you enter be sure to grab your drinks before standing in the bakery line otherwise you'll have to check out twice. The line goes by fairly quickly and the staff is works hard to make sure of this. I also got some beer bread that they will gladly slice for you but I found it to be dry. As for ambiance, this is a fairly busy rest stop so it's fairly energized here. Restrooms are decent.
google avatar

Melody T.

Yelp
I've been to the one on the other side of 35 and Gerricks and decided this is the best stop on my road trip kolache fix. So many options. They get you out fast even with long lines and they are friendly. Lots of shopping opportunity here too if that's your thing.
google avatar

Keasha E.

Yelp
Huge store with lots of pastries, meats, cheeses, snacks, desserts, drinks, gifts, you name it! Plenty of open gas pumps, very clean restrooms and very friendly staff.
google avatar

Rosie O.

Yelp
This is a stop we make every trip we take from Austin to Dallas. This particular time we had the Brisket Kolache and the Jalapeño cream cheese bacon. The brisket was blaaah, flavorless and more bread than brisket- not impressed at all. The jalapeño, bacon & cream cheese had better flavor but definitely needed a lot more warming than what was provided and the content wasn't evenly distributed. The sweet ones we left unearned to eat at home. Nutella was SUPER DELISH!!! Definitely worth stopping for again. However, the rest were very hard by the morning and uneatable. Probably not worth the stop next time I'm in the area. I wouldn't waste my time.

Ila J.

Yelp
Use to enjoy joint to Slovacek's. Not it's a Bucee's wanna be. It's as if China vomited a bunch of stuff that couldn't be sold anywhere else on their shelves. The food is a shame. Tossed out 8 bucks for a Ruben. Maybe 2 oz of meat.
google avatar

Andrew I.

Yelp
We saw the the sign on the highway while driving down. We stopped and we were pleasantly surprised. Bakery, deli, convenience store, etc. I immediately ordered a few of the kolache. I first tried kolache two years ago and loved it. We got three different types: ham and cheese, jalapeño popper, and breakfast sausage and cheese. Still a huge fan of kolache. My favorite was the jalapeño popper. The bread was a little sweet, the fillings were delicious. Definitely planning on grabbing more kolache before heading home.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
Has everything you need. Like a mini Buccees. So be careful, you'll go I. For a drink and walk out with a new outfit, a candle, soap and something from your favorite college. Meat selections are amazing for dinner.

Donald R.

Yelp
I've stoped at Slovacek's before in West and liked it. Stopped in last Sunday and order 2 sausage wraps. The sausages were bloated with grease and water as if they been boiled. Should have changed my order but was in the mood for a sausage wrap. After one bite, the bread and wrapper were wet from all the grease. The sausage flavor was there, but the excessive grease was not enjoyable. Also ordered a grilled cheese. It was sliced American cheese on white bread- no Mayo or butter on the bread so it was very ordinary and dry.

Yelp
This is a must stop for me and my family when traveling on 35. They have wonderfully clean bathrooms and a friendly staff. And the baked goods cannot be beat. Be ready because you will want to buy so much stuff. Apricot kolache is my favorite but the eclair comes in a super close second. I love the breakfast meat pocket things. But go over to the meat counter because the meats and cheeses are something you should take home as well. They even make good coffee. And I can always find little must-have items while shopping and stretching my legs.

Yelp
THE BEST KOLACHES!!! Seriously you need to stop here. They have the most delicious bread, Kolaches with amazing fillings. They also have great chocolate, jerky, fudge. In addition to food, they have the CUTEST baby clothes and books. Such a GEM.

Yelp
They had TONS of stuff. Food, clothes, trinkets, Christmas decor, you name it they had it. Prices were fair. We shopped, ate, got gas and used the restroom. Kolaches are da bomb! Restrooms were fairly clean....could have been a little cleaner. Would definitely recommend the stop and would return.

Yelp
This gas station/bakery has a little bit of everything. It's kind of like a Buc-ees but it's not THAT great. It's across the hwy from the Czech Stop /Shell station that has been at exit 353 for longer than I can remember. I almost felt like a traitor stopping at this location bc I have faithfully stopped at Czech Stop for about 15 years but we were heading south & we thought we'd check this place out. It has a lot of random things to look at if you want to shop. Tons of college themed gifts, pjs, shirts, socks, etc. my niece likes the slushes. They only have two flavors but she loved hers. (Green apple & blue razz). The restrooms are smaller than Buc-ees but a good size. The water pressure was a trickle though. It wasn't just one faucet either. All of the faucets barely had any water pressure. So, once you found a soap dispenser that actually had soap it took a while to get your hands washed. I know from the price of everything in this store that they can afford to turn up the water. The paintings on the wall by the restroom are cute, yet overpriced. I don't see a lot of people buying overpriced wall art at gas stations . To me, this was Slovaceks trying to be like Buc-ees bc that's what they do. Paintings & photos are for sale all over the walls by the restrooms. As we stood in the long line to order kolaches I noticed only one young man was smiling & friendly. As we approached, we got lucky, we got the friendly guy! Gavin greeted us w a smile & asked how he could help us. Gavin was SO NICE! As we chose each item he asked if we'd like him to heat it up for us. When we got to the Nutella dessert my nieces were eyeing the 2 in front. We didn't want to be a pain but he overheard us & said he didn't mind. He pulled out the tray & grabbed them for us. His coworker, a heavy set Hispanic kid w longer hair asked why he was doing that (in an irritated voice) & Gavin said "because I'm getting the ones they wanted for them". Perfect example of good customer service versus lazy customer service. It's so rare that anyone these days wants to go the extra mile but Gavin did something extra just to be nice. It's the little things that mean a lot to people. It put a smile on the girls faces & in turn made me happy. Therefore, I'm writing a review mainly to say that GAVIN is a 5 STAR employee!!! I hope that he is acknowledged for going above & beyond. It wasn't just that he grabbed the kolaches we wanted. He greeted us as we walked up when the other employees just looked at the people in line & said "next". Gavin was friendly, he smiled! These employees were all young & you can tell which ones were miserable. I really appreciate being helped by someone who is kind. We will be back, even though the line was long & the prices were a bit overpriced simply bc Gavin's kindness left a lasting impression on us!!! Kindness goes a long way. Hopefully the water pressure in the restroom is resolved (or changed) eventually & the egg salad sandwich bread isn't hard next time. (My niece loved the actual egg salad though) It cost too much to be on hard bread.
