**⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Slow and Low - Exceptional Food in Old Elk Grove!** I recently dined at Slow and Low in Old Elk Grove, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish! The restaurant has a cozy, laid-back vibe that makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich with cheese, and it was absolutely delicious! The tri-tip was cooked to perfection, tender, and full of smoky flavor. The cheese added a creamy richness that took the sandwich to the next level. It was honestly one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. For dessert, I indulged in their butterscotch banana cream pie, and wow—what a treat! The pie was smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the banana and the deep, caramel notes of the butterscotch. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Slow and Low also has a great selection of craft beers and cocktails, which complement their menu perfectly. This spot is a must-visit whether you're a local or just passing through Old Elk Grove. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu!

For Elk Grove, this is really a great add- especially to Old Town area. If it was in La/OC, maybe I’d give it a 3. Host was really nice, he brought us to the middle of the store and let us know it was open seating; got us water, and told us all ordering is at the counter. Counter lady for brunch was very non helpful, and basically said she didn’t know to any questions we asked lol Got the brisket elk grove brunch + corn pancakes; corn pancakes had a lot of flavor! 1 of the 3 pancakes was enough for me. Get this to share, which is what we did. Brisket dish could have used more flavor but large portion. The sauces they gave were good. HUGE place, right next to the dust bowl brewery. Good for groups. Some adjustments could make it great. Got the first drink in the lowbrau option; was told it was on the sweeter side of an old fashioned given apricot jam but it was more gingery/spice than sweet. Good but not sure I’d order again. Good but not dying to go back

WOW that was expensive.. on top of the high prices they force a 15% gratuity and still have the gall to ask for a tip. This was at the register line I stood in for 15 minutes to order. 30 minutes later some one brought a tray of food to our table of 2. My pulled pork was dry and had no flavor or sauce included. I was lucky enough to find the sauces displayed in a corner by the water jug. Three choices of sauce. Green, sweet, and spicy. Thanks for letting me know what they are. 10$ for a pint in what looked like a high ball glass seems a bit steep. At least chill a glass that's made for beer. I had to get up and ask for napkins. I guess BBQ isn't messy if there's no sauce on the meat. I had to go ask for utensils or eat the coleslaw and Mac and cheese with my hands. The place looks great. The AC works. The staff was nice when I asked for help. I feel like I worked just as hard though and deserve some of that forced tip. I do not plan on going back.

I've been here twice now. The first time was about 2 weeks after they opened and was extremely packed. Recently, we visited on a Wednesday night, and it was pretty empty. First off, the location is great, as well as the ambiance is really nice with plenty of space. The BBQ is just ok and nothing special or notable. There's some good quality with the fixings, but the meat itself is much to be desired. Did enjoy the cornbread. The price is what is disappointing for what is being served, as I would gladly pay if it was top notch BBQ... sadly, it's not. Beers are also over prices at $10 and it's not in a proper beer glass, but they have a decent beer list. Unfortunately, they were out of all the beers I really wanted to try, so that brings their beers list a notch down. Party of three for $99 total, including tip. Wowzer!

My wife and I enjoyed this place. Very chill atmosphere and the food was good. We had the chicken and the ribs. The chicken was not dry and the ribs fell off the bone. We finished with the bourbon walnut pie that was really good. Another good spot to visit in Elk Grove.

Attended a brunch at this newly opened restaurant. It is definitely a benefit to the historic downtown Elk Grove area. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the food was amazing. Unique flavors that I hadn’t experienced together. The Staff was great. It is a nice venue to host a party, office get together and more!

Google
Wildly disappointed. My family ate here when they opened and everything was delicious. I placed an order last night and the food was awful. Dry Mac and cheese, the apple crisp was bland and so soggy, absolutely no crisp. The children’s burger had a SPICY mayo or sauce on it, and my daughter could not enjoy it. The tri tip was dry and cold and the bread, soggy. The fries tasted like they had been sitting for a while and looked shriveled and oily and not even warm. This was a 50$+ meal we couldn’t even eat..

The restaurant is beautiful and the ambiance was nice. Servers were friendly. Went in Saturday morning for brunch. They have the a la cart meat options during brunch as well which was nice. Had the hot cakes, tri-tip, and pulled pork and ranch beans. The hot cakes were great! The compote that comes on top was very tasty. The meats on the other hand were left to be desired. Dry/Bland. The pulled pork didn't really have much of flavor and was dry. The tri-tip was chewy. The ranch beans on the other hand were amazing! Put that on top of some rice and I would call that a meal. This place could make room for improvement on their bbq. Other than that, everything else was great!

Yelp
Horn BBQ serves up some truly great food -- the meat is tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The staff was friendly, helpful, and provided 5-star customer service, which I really appreciated. That said, I gave 3 stars for service cleanliness due to the number of flies near the food and the messy meat-slicing station. While the staff member was diligent about changing gloves between customers, the area itself could have been better maintained. I also gave 3 stars for atmosphere, mainly because of the flies -- even indoors, they were a noticeable issue and distracted from an otherwise enjoyable meal. The manager was present but seemed disconnected from what was happening in the dining area. When the line was backed up to the door, a little extra support from leadership could have made a big difference -- maybe just looking up from the computer to help out here and there. Overall, the food and staff are great, and I'd definitely come back -- just hoping to see some improvements to cleanliness and atmosphere that would really elevate the whole experience.

Yelp
The good? I would rate the food, specifically the brisket, a very solid 4 stars. It was tender, juicy, and full of smokey goodness that one would expect from great BBQ. The house pickles were delicious. They gave a great contrast to the richness of our brisket sandwiches. We took our sandwiches to go, so we did not have an opportunity to add more sauce to our sandwiches. I would say it would be a good idea to offer a container of sauce on the side for orders to go. The bun wa very soft, too soft for my taste. A wee bit texture to the bread would also provide more contrast to the tenderness of the brisket, IMHO. The patio was nicely lit, good ambiance. It was a thousand degrees outside, so we opted for takeout. The not so good? This is a new location, so definitely some staff training issues. There were 2 carvers working the line, off and on, the evening we were there. One was quite skilled and the other must have been in training. The padawan was not ready to fly solo on a Saturday night. Took us an hour to get through the line and there were only 3 regular sized parties in front of us. Our initial point of contact was with the person in charge of dishing up the side dishes. She never greeted the patrons. As in, "Hi, welcome to Horn BBQ. Have you been here before? ... " She could use also a course on food handling, big time. Though she had gloves on, she could not resist the temptation to repeatedly touch her face, her hair, nor her clothing before she used those very same hands to touch food containers (yes, her fingers were inside the containers) and serveware to scoop the side dishes. Her bangs were not secured to her head, they were left free to dangle ( Must be why she felt the need to push her hair back out of the way over and over again?) This is nasty. We could not order side dishes as a result. Live music: We thought it was karaoke night, very amateurish. Perhaps it would have been better to ratchet down the volume as the reverb from such a large space was too, too much. A better sound system would have been nice, too. Suggestions? Online ordering. Better hygiene. Better sound for hired musicians. Oh yes, the flying insect thingies are worth the investment.

Yelp
Had lunch on Wednesday. 1/2 lb brisket, mac & cheese, and cornbread. They use plastic fork, knife and spoon. Brisket is so tender, plastic is just fine. Mac & cheese is gooey and tasty. Cornbread fravorful and not crumbly. Will be back to try the rest.

Yelp
Stopped in at Horn for the first time with my girlfriend, who was meeting up with some co-workers. Before the invite out I hadn't heard of Horn Barbecue, and didn't know it was the new spot, replacing the other barbecue spot that was there for a shot period of time. By the time we arrived which was a little before 6 pm, there was already a sandwich shop sign up front. Noting they were out of smoked turkey, and something else. And when we got to the counter my girlfriend wanted to order the half chicken and she was out of that as well. Which made selecting the meat choice even more difficult, since she didn't really want anything else; but opted for the brisket. We together ordered the following: Meat by the ound: Brisket (1/2 pound) - $19 Burnt ends (1/2 pound) - $17 Sides: Mac & cheese (large) - $9 Collard greens (large) - $9 Corn bread - $3 Drinks: Fountain sodas (x2) Food pros: The bunt end were de-lic-ious and it was our favorite item by far. The brisket was slow cooked to perfection, and you could cut it with a fork, or just easily pull it part with your hands. The mac & cheese was our favorite side. And with the sides, we were originally going to both order a medium size mac & cheese and collard greens. But the staff member helping us pointed out that we'd save $1/on each side if we just shared a large ordered of each. Which saved us $2 overall. Food cons: The greens were too salty. I couldn't put my finger on what the flavor was of them as first, and my girlfriend said she thought it was garlic (garlic salt maybe?). Which was odd to me for a flavor profile of greens, as most greens are seasoned with regular salt and pork or turkey if meat is involved. And as I ate more of the greens I could taste the salt more and more, which become overpowering for me and didn't finish them. The Cornbread while really good, but comes in an extremely small portion for $3. When we were going to order it we expected the pieces to be larger. Or assumed for the size we saw you'd maybe get two pieces, but that wasn't the case. So because of the price we just ordered one slice to share, because we couldn't imagine paying $6 for two of those small slices of bread. Establishment was really nice and spacious and, and have open seating indoors and a small patio area in the back. The main dinning area is on the side of the restaurant where you enter, and there's a nice bar area on the far side. The murals are dope and the decor is nice as well, and there's available Horn "swap" near the front entrance and ordering area. Overall: Definitely a good new Barbecue spot for Elk Grove. Decently priced for most of the items, most lightly salad and the collard greens would've been perfect, and slightly larger portions of Cornbread would be ideal.

Yelp
The Good: The brisket was deliciously tender--definitely a standout. Some of us preferred it with the house BBQ sauce, while others thought it was great on its own, so it really comes down to personal taste. The absolute favorite across the board was the collard greens--full of flavor and cooked just right. The mac & cheese was also a hit when it was warm! Creamy, cheesy, and comforting. We had heard from friends that everything is good when heated. We can confirm that is true! The place itself looks great inside! Clean, inviting, and not crowded at all when we went (Thursday after 5 p.m.). While Elk Grove Blvd. can get pretty backed up around that time, we were lucky and didn't run into any traffic issues. The Bad: Unfortunately, the smoked gouda sausage was disappointing. It was very dry and tough, almost like it had been cooked the day before--and we had purchased two links. Knowing we could've opted for another brisket instead makes it a bit of a regret, especially since everything else looked so promising. Also, there's no online ordering, which wasn't a problem for us personally since I wanted to get out of the house. But adding that option could really open the door to more business, especially for people who want a quick pick-up or are short on time. We didn't plan to dine, just stopped by for pick-up.

Yelp
Place is amazing. Customer service great, brisket amazing, Mac and cheese fire, and don't get me started with the banana pudding! The amount of weird snobbery in the reviews is astounding. Yall are trippin. Good beer great food. Best bbq joint in Elk Grove/ Sacramento area imo.

Yelp
I've come here twice. Once when it first opened and this time, a few months later. Things have improved since the place opened. They still have long lines at different times of the day. You line up to place, receive, and pay for your order. You sit at any open table. They gave me a choice of fatty or lean brisket. I did half and half. The brisket is good. I prefer the fatty brisket. That was very tender, and it was really good. The leaner brisket one was a little on the dry side. I do like their corn bread. It's not bad. It's not warm, just room temp. I think it would have been better, if it was warm. The sausage, I didn't care for, but my husband liked it. We did try the pork ribs, it was okay. Overall, we had a good experience. I would probably come again, but not often. There isn't much BBQ places in Elk Grove. It is on the expensive side for BBQ.

Yelp
Took the family to visit Horn bbq at 2pm on July 3. It was empty inside, only 1 other table with 2 ladies. Decor was nice, place was spacious and clean. We were greeted right away, ordered our sides and meat. The brisket was tender and juicy, very delicious! The beef rib was seasoned well, the pork belly burnt ends were delightful. I love the pickled onions and pickles that came with the meal. We tried the granny's potato salad and the regular potato salad, as well as the coleslaw and southern cabbage. Everything was great. We just came from Texas last month and the bbq at Horn is better than the ones we had over at Terry Black's. So glad that we have Texas bbq in Elk Grove!

Yelp
This was my first visit to Horn Barbecue, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I'd heard it was Black-owned and that the owner is from the Bay Area, so I had to check it out. Horn has taken over the space where Slow & Low BBQ used to be. A spot that didn't last long and honestly wasn't all that memorable. I went with a group of coworkers, and even on a Wednesday at 6 PM, there was a line out the door. That alone told me we were in for something good. I ordered the brisket sandwich, spare ribs, and mac and cheese. Everything was packed with flavor, but the mac and cheese ended up stealing the show. I was so full I had to take the rest home. Next time, I'm making room for their banana pudding. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Beef rib: Huge, tender, fall-off-the-bone, good flavor Spare ribs: (Charged as tips; yes, we were honest; yes, we were blessed) Tender, good flavor Burnt ends: Good flavor, would have liked them to be a little crispier/more burnt Slaw: Not my favorite but not awful, definitely liked it more with the burnt ends Mac & Cheese: Very good, not too cheesy but not dry, good flavor Potatoes: Definitely my favorite, almost a mixture of au gratin and mashed, excellent flavor and texture Overall: Good food Good service Good atmosphere; loved the vibe! Good location: We parked on the street but there's definitely a bit of parking in the back. The place is pretty big, like a converted warehouse with plenty of seating inside and outside! Cafeteria-style A definite place to go for some good BBQ! Total: $134 minus extra tip CON: Please do something about the flies! I know flies love BBQ too, and there weren't so many that it was gross. There were enough to be annoying and one man left because of them.

Yelp
First and foremost, this place was delicious right when you first walk in you get in line and you order your food as if you were in elementary school but imagine waiting for food that you actually wanna eat that smells amazing. You start off with sides. Which I got were collard greens beans and Grammy's potatoes but the best side of all no doubt was the cornbread! Get a couple for yourself, It's worth it. After the sides are picked you go onto the meats. We went a little late so they didn't have the pork belly burnt ends, which was all my fault but we ended up getting the tri-tip which was 10 out of 10 and we got some rib tips along with some hot links. Everything was delicious all the way down to the original and spicy barbecue sauce they had on the table plenty of seats for the entire family. If you're craving bbq, try this place out. It's a must!

Yelp
Went here after a bunch of my friends told me about it. I went during lunch and the line was to the door so I came back for early dinner. It was less crowded so I only had one person ahead of me. I didn't like that you ordered from their counter so close to the door making a huge line out the door. I wanted to try a lot so I got the brisket, ribs and beef ribs. The brisket was done well. I was disappointed with the beef rib. I thought there wasn't enough meat on the bone. Good flavor. Still searching for a place that does the beef ribs good. Their corn bread was good. I will have to come back and try it again after they have been going for a while. Parking g is a little crazy since they have a apartment complex next door.

Yelp
My sister and her husband recently discovered this local BBQ restaurant near their house. So our family made the short drive to see what they had to offer. My sister and I are not carnivores, but fortunately, this place has a few alternate food options. However, if you are strictly vegan and must be on a gluten free diet, like my sister, this probably isn't the eatery for you. On the other hand, my late fiancée and Yelp companion, Joe K., would have loved this place! The interior is very spacious with multiple group and family style tables. Upon entering, you head to the front ordering counter where the wall menu is posted. As expected, a list of different kinds of meat, chicken, turkey and sausages are offered from their barbecue section. You can also have them as a sandwich. There are also several side dishes to choose from. (But no green salads). My brother in law and my dad shared hot link sausages, spare ribs and chicken, along with Pit beans, Granny's potatoes, and coleslaw. I ordered candied yams, mac & cheese and cornbread. They serve your food on a wax paper lined serving tray. No dinnerware is used here. Everything is eaten on the premises, meaning off your tray, or taken to go in requested containers. Plastic utensils are supplied. A separate cocktail bar is located along one side of the dining area. Our server brought glasses of water and takes orders for drinks. My sister ordered a white wine which arrived in a small glass and was about half full. The wine apparently, was not the best. Don't come here for the wine selection! I would say, that everyone in our party seemed to enjoy their food. My cornbread was dry but still edible. (Maybe because I was just hungry)! This is a nice place to eat and drink at for large parties. I would describe it as having a variety of down home barbecue meals with a touch of class. I also noticed that they have a large patio area with some corn hull games available. They didn't seem to have any protection from the direct sun that I could see though! We will probably return again, especially for the carnivores in the family. (And it seems they already have since my writing of this review)!

Yelp
One morning while browsing Reddit I came across a post about a new bbq restaurant in Elk Grove. Unlike some of the other bbq restaurants, this one has a tried & true location in Oakland that has rave reviews. Ironically Mother's Day was around the corner, so I figured that it would be a nice treat to my mom. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the restaurant, there was a long line extending outside of the restaurant (fortunate on the business side of things). Although we decided to treat my mom to something else, I bookmarked the restaurant via the Yelp app. To celebrate a huge team accomplishment, some colleagues and I decided to have lunch at Horn on a Friday morning at 11 (right when they open). We walked straight to the counter where we were greeted by a friendly employee who handled "sides" only. Since I was not ordering slides (next time I plan on trying their granny's potatoes and collard greens), I slid over to the station where another friendly employee was handling the meats. I proceeded to place an order for the following: the Brisket sandwich, rib tips, and the smoked gouda link. I was so satisfied by every portion of my order. The best way to describe the taste is that all of my options were prepared so well that I didn't realize that I should have tried the various sauce options available on our table. This serves as a lesson that good bbq shouldn't need to be doused in sauce to be edible. Sauce not being a necessity is also a benefit for folks who have restrictive diets due to a medical condition (e.g. diabetes). I know prices are subjective; but in my opinion, you get a lot of food for a decent price (which is not a norm considering the state of our economy- shrinkflation). I definitely want to continue to support Horn BBQ (I will be back to try their pork belly burnt ends and pulled pork sandwich); especially considering that the owner could have chosen another city to bring his delicious food to, but chose Elk Grove!

Yelp
Very honest review. The wait was a little long for a cafeteria style service. We waited in line about 45 minutes. There was only one person cutting and serving the meat, but if they had 2 people I bet it would be much faster. We ordered a beef rib (nicely smoked and good), brisket (smoked flavor was pretty good but the meat was slightly dry at least my piece), and a half chicken (dry and not as much seasoning as I like) with a side of granny's potatoes (good) and collard greens (as expected). We also had cornbread (textured and maybe a little over cooked for my taste) and banana pudding (yummy). The BBQ sauce was really good. They could probably sell that in bottles and I bet people would buy it. We spent $92 including tax, so a little pricey for two people. The ambiance was nice and casual. They didn't have enough utensils on the table. I had to walk around and ask another table if I could grab some of their utensils because there was no one I could ask. The one thing I couldn't stand was the flies. It was so annoying. Maybe because we were near an entrance but I kept swatting them away even as I ate. It wasn't due to cleanliness because they did try to clean the tables off quickly. It was also a hot day (94) and I heard a few people complain about the heat inside. Maybe they are still working through the kinks of a new opening but there are things they can do better in my opinion. Overall I give the food 3-3/4 stars, the service 3 stars (slow service and didn't replenish utensils), cleanliness about 4 stars. The dining area and bathrooms were clean. They had a singer for dinner entertainment, so that added to the experience, a plus. We drove from Woodland, so we probably wouldn't make an extra effort to drive to Elk Grove just for the BBQ again, unless we were nearby.

Yelp
Took my mother in law here for Mother's Day lunch since she loves pork ribs. This restaurant opened up two weeks ago and knew we had to try this! We got there at 11 and there was a long line already! While waiting in line, we learned this was like cafeteria style where you order what you want and then pay. Tables are first come first served, but not a concern as there's plenty of seating. Everything tasted delicious and the meat falls off the bone. We ordered chicken sandwich, pork ribs, pork belly, beef brisket, macaroni and cheese, potatoes, sweet yam, corn bread, collard greens, and cabbage. We had so much food left over! I wanted to give Ryan, the temporary restaurant manager! He's friendly and extremely knowledgeable! So excited Horn BBQ is now in Elk Grove! I heard they're planning awesome events like line dancing and they have live bands Friday- Sunday evenings! Highly recommend this restaurant when you're craving BBQ!

Yelp
I came here for lunch with a coworker as she recently heard of this place. I guess it's only been open for a few weeks. The line was out door and moving slowly which I didn't understand why I until I got inside! They serve food like a cafeteria/buffet style. It was different to say the least. When it was our turn to order, they were out of Mac and Cheese and greens (more were being cooked) so we pre-purchased some and had to watch for when they came out b/c the staff kept forgetting to get our order. Some of the sides were cold due to the setup however, things were seasoned well. The smoked turkey was the best smoked turkey I've had thus far. My least favorite were the sweet potatoes...they needed to be cooked a little longer. IDK if I'll be back but glad to say I got to try it.

Yelp
The food was amazing! I loved the Smokey flavor of everything I ordered! Down side was standing in line for an hour to order. Lean Brisket 10/10 juicy, no knife needed, Smokey, flavorful still the right amount of fatty, right price for the size. Pork belly burnt tips Comes with some bbq on it, 10/10, Smokey, flavorful, not over cooked, still has some chew and tender. Smoked turkey 7/10, great Smokey flavor, lean, salty. On 5/11 the sides were good! Mac and cheese 7/10, cabbage 8/10, cold cornbread 5/10 wished it was warm, had a buttery sweet glaze on it, but would have liked some butter/honey to ad.

Yelp
I've been a longtime fan of Horn Barbecue and was elated to hear they were opening a restaurant in Elk Grove. For the most part, parking is easy to find in their lot or on the street. It's set up the same way the original location was in Oakland other than the addition of the full bar. You order your sides and protein at the counter, and pay when your order has been fulfilled. Renowned pit master Matt Horn and his team have done a fantastic job here. They serve collard greens, cornbread, mac and cheese, pit beans, granny's potato salad, and slaw for their sides. Protein options include brisket (your choice of fatty or lean), pork belly burnt ends, pork spare ribs, hot links, turkey, and beef ribs on the weekend. They also serve burgers, barbecue sandwiches, and chicken sandwiches. They have fountain drinks, iced tea, Kool-Aid, and a full bar. For dessert they have some killer banana pudding. I opted for the fatty brisket, turkey, granny's potatoes, and mac and cheese. Everything was delicious and is served with pickled red onions and pickles if you'd like. I can't wait to try the beef ribs next time I'm in. They sell some Horn Barbecue swag such as hats and t-shirts. I'll definitely be back in soon. Congrats to Matt and company on a job well done. Kudos on the recent Michelin Star; those aren't easy to come by these days!

Yelp
Love Horn BBQ. I've been to the location in Oakland on Mandela Pkwy multiple times. I'm glad Matt opened a location in Elk Grove. If people are saying the line is long here, it's long in Oakland too. People bring their folding chairs just to sit and wait for hour(s) until they open their doors. It's the same kitchen/cafeteria concept where you place your order at the cashier. I'm used to the long wait in line and actually don't mind because I know I'm going to get some good BBQ. For me, I go early to avoid long lines. First time here at this location. I arrived at 10:30AM lol, on a Thursday. There were no customers. I stood in line at 10:50AM by the door. I was surprised no people in line, compared to Oakland. About 8 more people arrived after me and the door opened right at 11AM. The restaurant is spacious and plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. The server and cashier were friendly and nice. I got my favorite, beef rib and pork ribs. Love their potato salad. I received my food within 5 minutes and left. Service was fast. I took my food to go. Shared it with family. Tastes just how I remember in Oakland. That smoked seasoned taste and smell. Fall off the bone, tender and juicy. Mmm, love it. However, it does get expensive as they charge by the half pound. Next time, I'll try to dine in and go with friends and family.

Yelp
Well to start let me set the stage with it reminds me of Terry Blacks in Dallas when you get in. Now Having been to Salt Lick as well, know I understand good Que. Very cool looking interior. My husband and I remember the owner having something in a Robb Report to have an experience with him. Wide open space with string lights. Great huge bar area. Really like the decor. We've been in line about 15 minutes and haven't moved more than 3 feet. Food looks and smells good. There are more than a dozen people behind us in line now. Since a new place giving grace. But only three people working the line. Four folks just left, not good. We drove from North Sac so not leaving. There's one young lady standing near the line who I engaged and suggested she should help behind the counter. She said she would if she could. One person cutting meats not good at all!!!! This is new place where is Mr. Horn? Come greet offer water to folks in line... You order drinks at the bar. I left hubby in line and went and got drinks. 82 year old mom sat down for the 30 minutes it took to order food. So $114.00 later, not including drinks and the verdict is in. Let me start with it doesn't have to be salty to be flavorful. The decent/good: Brisket star of the show. Would order that again. beef sausage good flavor, and texture. Casing a little tough. Potato salad decent use red potatoes. Like the cornbread, it's dense with a great honey butter flavor. The people working the floor were wonderful and pleasant. Brisket sandwich mom said was decent. Ribs, love the texture but damn the salt!!!! They looked so beautiful being unwrapped in the foil. Damn I'm disappointed. Coleslaw not flavored. Yams undercooked, Mac and cheese ughhhh. I'm so disappointed I wanted to love this. Serious suggestions: Figure out the ordering system. It's bad. I hate to see how that's going down, making customers leave. Lay-off the salt. As Gordon says did you taste the food before you served it??? Check yams to make sure they are not hard and crunchy... My mom is taking food home to "doctor" because she can't see wasting all that money in this economy. Perspective of a true senior.

Yelp
Central Texas + Black South = West Coast BBQ!!! I've been following Chef Horn since his Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2022 for the incredible food offerings of his original Horn BBQ location in Oakland, CA. I love Texas style BBQ and nothing in the Sacramento area even comes close....until now. It's all about the "made with LOVE" food and the experience you have, up until that first anticipated bite. You may see some familiar Slow and Low "touches" when dining here, but the Horn experience was outstanding and the food incredible. It will definitely be a very popular place. With a full bar, lots of bar tables, bench tables, standard seating, as well as patio seating available. It will be crowded at times, but don't be discouraged. It's worth the wait. Here's what I had: Brisket - Smoked incredibly well. Moist, trimmed well, excellent bark, just great overall quality Texas Style brisket! Get some now....it's a must try. Just be sure to tell them if you want the flat (lean) or point (fatty). Ribs - These had excellent flavor with a great rub and glaze. MY only issue was that typically, St. Louis style ribs have a little pull to them when biten. These were fall off the bone like babybacks. You may like them like that though. So please order these and form your own opinion, as this was just mine, personally. Turkey - Moist and tender turkey breast. Not buttery like some others. Just plain great turkey breast. Your kids will love it! Half Chicken - OMG this was moist and juicy, even in the breast! Not a hole lot of flavor by itself, but that's what the sauces are for. I would recommend this as the healthier option, because you can't go wrong with it. And you kids will like that too... Hot Link - Very meaty sausage. Great snap, but not hot, just a mild spice to it. Could be a little hotter in my opinion, but that again...is my own personal opinion. So order this too and tell me what you think. Collard Greens - Absolutely loved them! Who doesn't love southern cooked greens? And of course you need some veggies in your diet anyway. I'll order these everytime I come. They appear and tasted fresh, not frozen, with bits of meat and a little heat. Simply Wonderful! Mac and Cheese - I really enjoyed these too! Great flavor and I loved the melty cheese on top, but my friend's didn't have that. The taste was a great mixture of cheeses and well cooked macaroni noodles. So comforting, that you have to try them! Your kids will love these too!! Southern Cabbage - Not my favorite, but still a healthier option to some of the other carby sides available. The reason why I didn't like it though, was because it appeared to be overcooked and slightly mushy in texture. Maybe it was supposed to be like that, but I've had fried cabbage at a another southern restaurant and it was a different experience. Cornbread - This was amazing! Moist in the middle, crispy on top with some sweet heat from the hot honey. You can't go wrong with this BBQ staple and it's worth the asking $3.00 I can't wait to go back and try the Beef Ribs! Horn BBQ is a great, welcome addition to the wonderful food offerings in the Sacramento and surrounding areas, like Elk Grove. Thanks for pulling up, Chef Matt! Simply Wonderful!!!

Yelp
OK, so when I heard about a barbecue spot and Elk Grove, I was definitely gonna check it out. But to be fair, I had really low expectations because barbecue is so bad in California let alone Elk Grove. Honestly, I can't trust yelp ratings in Elk Grove because there's so many wack chain restaurants that people are used to eating at. One more thing to keep in mind this was opening weekend. Usually, I don't go to places on opening weekend, but I didn't really know either so that's why I ended up there surprisingly though the line wasn't too bad until after I cut my food and then it was around the corner. It was crazy. That being said they were out of a lot of stuff. I really came for brisket because that's generally how I judge barbecue. Luckily, they had the brisket and I gotta say for reals. It was probably the best brisket I've ever had in California. It was so fat and juicy and it was sliced. Usually I go for chopped brisket because it's usually more fatty that way and you get more juices but even with a straight slice that thing was delicious. I really wanted to try the cornbread and the pork belly, but they were out of those. The mac & cheese was fantastic though my buddy got the good scoop. I only got it OK scoop, but it was still pretty good. They were also out of the collard greens, but that's OK. They had some southern cabbage. That was really good. I wasn't a real big fan of the beans. Very molasses and very sweet. Too sweet for my taste. I also wasn't a big fan of the rib tips. Those are only seven bucks though so I'm not super tripping on that. The mixed drinks looked interesting, but I wasn't really trying to drink that day so whatever but I give them a try Long story long if you're gonna go get the brisket get the mac & cheese. That's all you need and you're gonna have a great time. It's Texas style so basically you just get it on a big tray and just find a seat if you want. They don't do pickles and onions or white bread but solid all the same.

Yelp
This is a really cool place, very open and lively. Their line is pretty long but it was Father's Day that we went, so considering we only had to wait maybe an hour, that was pretty good. We got the brisket, ribs, potato salad, collard greens, and Mac n cheese. ALL of the food was amazing!! The brisket was so tender I couldn't move it from the tray to a plate without it just falling into bite size pieces, it was very juicy and the bbq sauce was really good. But the Mac n cheese and collard greens were very notable, I could eat it every day!! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Finally had a chance to stop by a Horn in Elk Grove. Took my three boys for a bbq lunch. I have eaten at both the original West Oakland and the Lafayette locations and EG has good food and nicer ambiance. Ordering system is similar to other locations. Stand in line until your turn to order. It took about 20 minutes on our visit. Here, you choose the sides first and then the meats. Prior reviews noted flies and there were a couple in the ordering area. Not sure there is anything that can be done. It is a large open space and they are carving the meats to order. We tried the brisket, pork ribs, turkey, pork belly, Mac n cheese and collard greens. Everything was very good and I would order all again. The space itself is nice and open. Twenty foot ceilings and bench tables with plenty of space in between them. Downside? Bbq is not inexpensive. We ordered a moderate amount of food, no drinks and it came out to $120 including tip. If you are hungry or want something other than water, it can easily be $40 or more per person. Overall four stars and worth a visit if in the area.

Yelp
The food was good. The ribs I will give it a 7/10 just need bbq on it, the MAC & cheese I give it a 7/10 , the potato salad I give it 8/10 serving it cold would have been better for me. The brisket was 10/10 , tbe hot links were a 7/10, the cabbage and corn bread 7/10. The service was great fast and staff were nice and kind. I do recommend this restaurant. They do have beer on tap and alcohol to serve . Overall I will go again. Family friendly vibe.

Yelp
Tried this new restaurant in Old Elk Grove today for the first time and left with mixed feelings. First, the building is beautiful and the interior is spacious and clean. There is even a patio out back. My husband and I went for lunch and there were just a few other people dining here at that time. We ordered brisket sandwiches. The sandwiches are prepared with chopped meat, barbecue sauce, and pickled or fresh onions. The meat is lean and flavorful but the bun is too soft for moisture of the meat. We each got one side. I got the candied yams which were amazing. My husband ordered the baked beans, which my husband said were delicious. We also ordered a soda and an iced tea. Now for the negatives. When you order, you pay at a counter and there is little customer service. You actually have to go to the bar to pay for even nonalcoholic drinks separately form your meal. There are no refills, either! Once seated, I realized we were given plastic silverware, and had to ask for plates! Our meal was simply placed on one tray for both of us! After getting our drinks, I was still thirsty, I had to ask for a glass of water. My husband also used the restroom and told me it could have been cleaner! Lastly, the prices for lunch are quite high! Around 60.00 for lunch for two people!! Everything is priced separately. Unfortunately. The issues with customer service and the prices will probably keep us from coming back, but I have to admit the food is good!

Yelp
We came on a Saturday to take out our family visiting from out of town to check out Horn BBQ. When arriving, we were confused and surprised to see a line trailing out the front door and wrapped around the corner inside. We went inside to take a look at what was going on and confirmed it was a long line to order bbq, however no line at the bar. We decided to have a few family members wait in the bbq line while a few of us went to the bar to get drinks in the meantime. The bbq wait line time was about an hour, we all finished our first drinks before we got to the line up to order. The process was extremely slow. There were probably 30-40 people in line and only one employee taking orders and making food plate/trays. Many customers in line grew frustrated, we all wanted to try the bbq and just wanted to sit down and enjoy our Saturday afternoon but had to debate whether we wait it out to be able to get our food or if we should just take the loss and leave the restaurant to go elsewhere. Many people showed up, saw the line, and immediately left. The operations and flow here needs some changes to be able to scale for volume especially on the weekends. Thankfully after waiting an hour, the food did turn out to be decent. That was the saving factor but we were embarrassed and apologizing to our family members who had driven hours to come, only to stand and wait in line for another hour for lunch. Even if we could have ordered and sat down at a table with a number and waited at a table would've been better. Although ideally it shouldn't take an hour to get lunch out to tables, at least we could've sat together with our drinks instead of standing with our drinks in line waiting. I understand Horn is new and just replaced Slow and Low, so I hope they soon make improvements and iron out the wait time and order of how things are done. I may return in a few months to give this place another chance in hopes it's not another experience of waiting in line for an hour. If the line is out the door, it's not worth staying but if there's no line then it's worth trying.

Yelp
It's the best BBQ in the area, no doubt. The brisket, gouda sausage, pork belly burnt ends, all of it is top notch. Pair any of that with the mac & cheese, pit beans, etc. and you will be waddling out the door. They do still need to work on staffing and service. Ordering was slow. Our table lacked all the BBQ sauces and forks. No one told us water was self service, and no one came to our table to offer soft drinks. It's going to be a great place, and we will be back.

Yelp
The employees are great and friendly, but is the long wait that I can't give five stars. With the mass flow on customer, I think is feasible to extend the meat station and buy another scale to help speed up the meat section. The brisket is very juicy, the ribs fall off the bones. Best TX bbq in California for now XD.!!!

Yelp
I've been excited to support Matt since I knew this new location was opening. I was so very impressed. The food was amazing but let's start with some other things first! The location: perfection! Plenty of parking even with a FULL capacity. I love love love the brick building and the murals. Just dope. Fits his background and his well earned Michelin star rating. 10/10 for ambiance. (I forgot to snap pics of the murals). The Service: Everyone was friendly and helpful. To have only been open a few weeks they seem like a very cohesive bunch. It's a Sunday so the sides were selling out fast but the kitchen was getting fresh portions out. The star: THE FOOD. I don't have enough characters to say it all but flavor, portion, even the sodium levels . I could live on the spare ribs, macaroni, yams and greens. Just let me be . 10/10. I'll be back soon and often. Well done Matt!

Yelp
It was a Sunday and we were craving some BBQ. We searched our trusty Yelp app and came across Horn Barbecue. I honestly thought I knew all the BBQ places here in Elk Grove, so I was shocked about this one popping up. I later found out from the workers they've only been open for 2 weeks. Anyways, the place was very clean and I liked the seating area. If we weren't so tired, we would've eaten there. It's cafeteria style when ordering. You pick out your sides first, then on to the meats! They charge by 1/2 lb. For our sides we got the Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens and Corn Bread. The Mac and cheese was really good. The collard greens were unfortunately very salty. Not sure what happened there, maybe because it was a late Sunday?? The corn bread was also very dry and dense. So I was a bit disappointed with the sides that we chose. However, Horn Barbecue made up for it with their meat! Their Brisket is literally the best brisket we've had! And we've had brisket at plenty of places during our travels. This alone will keep us coming back haha. We got 2 lbs of brisket that evening, and honestly I wish we ordered more. Haha. The brisket was very tender and juicy! Very different from another BBQ place we would frequent here in Elk Grove, but definitely in a good way. As for the Beef Rib, it was very tender and flavorful as well! Given it was our first time there, we had to see if it tasted good first... and it definitely was. When craving some BBQ, don't hesitate to stop by Horn! We will definitely be back! I would've gone there today, but they're closed Monday and Tuesday, Boo!! haha.

Yelp
Simply amazing! Delicious food the way bbq was INTENDED to taste. The only dish we didn't love were the greens, I felt they were too mustardy otherwise everything was melt in your mouth delicious. Yes there is a line before ordering, self seating but you know what? This is GOOD food not fast food so bring a book, have a conversation with your neighbor and prepare to indulge in high quality food, prepared with expertise and love. We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
First reaction - the line was long and took about 30 min to get to the front, but everything looked and smelled good the minute you stepped out of your car! So... it was worth the wait! Everything tased great! The place offers their own BBQ sauce and you know they take pride in making the sauce as good as the food. We had a pound of every meat and it was more expensive than I thought, but we did not waste anything. It was hard to have a favorite because everything tasted so good. My favorite sides were the mac-n-cheese, cabbage with bacon, and the corn bread - omg the corn bread! Since the lines were long and took long to order, the restaurant seating ratio managed to keep the floor quiet and not too busy. So when you finally got your food and drinks ready, you needn't to worry about finding seats. The ambiance was nice and not so crowded on the floor. They also have people who go around to check napkins, utensils, clean, and provide help if needed. 5/5 will come again with other friends and family!

Yelp
I really loved this place! We showed up before 6 o'clock because it was Friday night and we didn't want to wait too long. There was no line at all. You start at the front, ordering sides, then go down the line and order meats, if that's your thing. It's definitely mine. We tried the Mac-n-cheese, and granny's potatoes. So good! Loved them both, seasoned and cheesy, a small was enough for my hubby and I to share them. I had the brisket, he had the hot link and beef tips. My teenager had the burger and fries. Everything was INCREDIBLE. I don't usually eat the fat on my brisket, but I did there! It literally fell apart when I tried to pick it up with a fork. The beef tips just fell off the bone, too. My son's eyes lit up when they brought his burger. It was a double, and his only complaint was how many sesame seeds were on the bun. It was covered, but I'll upload a photo for your consideration. We had drinks, I had the Betty White. Vodka, lemon juice, rose wine and lavender bitters. That hit the spot! My husband said the bartender was personable, too. I loved everything so much, I went back once we were done to get a smoked Gouda sausage to go. The gentleman who helped us in the line was friendly and kind enough to explain all the things we had questions about in a way even my kid understood. The pickles! They were delicious and I forgot to ask if they make them there, but I usually go for crisper/fresher looking pickles, personally. These looked basic, but the flavor was amazing! The venue is huge, well spaced out and there's an outdoor patio for days it's not over 90 out. I like all the natural wood and industrial feel. There was a couple of musicians setting up for live music when we were leaving. My ONLY complaint is that there were flies. Granted, it's summer, but they have a lot of different options for businesses to combat this. They were great about keeping the sides covered and the meats are in a closed container, but we sure did watch our food as it made its way to us. If it weren't for that, this would have been a 5-star review. We'll certainly be back, and hopefully they'll have found a resolution for the bug issue.

Yelp
This place is new! Apparently VERY new but the food was BOMB, literally everything was delicious the pulled pork sandwich was our favorite thing we got followed by the Mac and cheese then the brisket and finally the Gouda sausage link. The corn bread was yummy if a little bit expensive for the size, and the banana pudding could use a LOT more wafers in it but everything was delicious and affordable. This (picture attached) fed the two of us and was less than $50 the service was friendly but the serving live is a massive bottleneck with only 1 dude serving meat and it was slow when we came but the line backs up REAL fast. The look of the place is fantastic with a large bar and both indoor and outdoor seating. Overall I can't wait to come back to try more things, very happy with the experience. Not I just hope they'll get some stouts on tap ;D

Yelp
Highs: - brisket - burnt ends - beef rib - Gouda sausage/Texas sausage - banana pudding (surprising) Neutral: - Mac n cheese - grandmas potatoes Lows: - Only three forks for a four top, missing knives and spoons for every table - pork spareribs are too salty and dry - Cutter in front just started cutting my brisket without asking fatty or lean so when I noticed he was cutting me the leanest, driest part of the brisket I had to let him know I didn't want such lean cuts. He had an attitude after that but I gave him the benefit of the doubt, until I noticed he didn't bother slicing my links like the customers before or after me. - As many have said the ordering system is inefficient, expect to wait up to an hour even at opening. If Horn can polish some of the rougher edges in the experience, it definitely has the potential to be the best bbq spot in Sacramento. There's another spot in Folsom that's my current go to.

Yelp
The brisket and pulled pork were very good. The mac and cheese was a little dry. The cornbread was moist and delicious, and the fries were crispy, fresh, and hot. The service was okay. One important suggestion: please make sure staff change their gloves after using their cell phones. I noticed one person handling food who was texting on their phone and then immediately using the same gloves to grab and cut the brisket. This is very unsanitary and could be a serious food safety concern.

Yelp
First time trying Horn BBQ in Elk Grove. I came on on a Friday night and boy when I tell you the line was long and only getting longer. The ambiance is nice lots of character within the building. Like I said the line was getting longer and at times it felt cramped. You can't place orders ahead on the phone or online apparently which I can come up with some reasons why they do that but nonetheless you will be waiting in line. In all honesty this place is great if you are starving. I would totally come here with my munchies and watch the game with some friends. The bbq is good I've had better but it's pretty good. Worth to go out your way to check out. What I will say is the collard greens taste extremely salty. It's not over salt it tastes like hbp lol. I usually can tolerate salty food but this could not salty with minimal greens flavor and hint of pepper. Couldn't Finish mine even though I was sharing it both of us couldn't. Other than that everything was good I haven't tried the potato salad yet and I'm looking forward to that.

Yelp
We were here at 5:30 pm on Friday. The line was long and it took us 45 mins to be seated with our food. Some group of people decided to leave bc of the long wait. (Up to 1hr considering it's canteen style) The hostess went outside while we wait, to offer glasses of water for those who want it. It is a Canteen Style restaurant. You choose your side dishes first then proceed to tell The meat carver what kind of meat you like to get, then the last stop is at the cashier and that's where you order the sandwiches or burgers and pay. We ordered Horn burger (served w/ fries) , spare ribs, rib tips and candied yams and corn bread for the sides. They were all delicious! The corn bread was exceptional! We tried the bbq sauces and the original was the best for our palate. You actually don't need the sauces bc the meat is well seasoned already. I'm giving them more time to redeem their service next time since they only opened recently. I hope that there are multiple people that works at the meat section ( meat carvers) bc that's where it holds the line. Only one person is getting your order for meat and carving and weighing it too. The cashier is not too well familiar on the kind of meat you're ordering. So make sure you double check the screen before paying. By the time we sat for our food, the side dishes were already cold. There was a lot of staff around that are not useful, I see them just walking around and not checking the tables, the utensils were empty with spoon and forks, the water station don't have glasses we can use, we have to wait until they're done washing it. We're hoping to come back next time and with better experience since the food was superb! Just don't go here super hungry for the meantime bc the wait might make you more hangry :)

Yelp
Love that we have this spot now in Elk Grove, I visted on Thursday, & loved all that we ordered. I especially loved the spare ribs & Nashville Style Chicken Sandwich. The ribs were so juicy & tender. The chicken sandwich was super crispy, which is my favorite. We ended up getting a mojito as well. The service was great, we were constantly getting checked on. Definitely feels like a BBQ spot, very spacious, plenty of seating, & cool decor. The prices were reasonable as well.

Yelp
Slow Service That Doesn't Match the Hype! I've been standing in line for over an hour, and there are still about 15 people ahead of me. Honestly, the speed of service is painfully slow. What's confusing is that once you get inside, there are plenty of empty tables--so it's not like the place is packed to capacity. It almost feels like they're dragging their feet just to keep a long line out front for the appearance of being super busy. If that's the strategy, it's more frustrating than impressive. Hopefully, the food makes up for the wait, but at this point, it's already starting off as a disappointing experience.

Yelp
I have been dying for this place to open after reading the history of the pit master/ chef Matt Horn. Yesterday was the Grand Opening and it did not disappoint! I went with a large group so we pretty much tried at least a bite of everything and there was seriously. Nothing that wasn't absolutely delicious. The fatty brisket was melt in your mouth. The sausage had a great snack to it and was obviously made in house. The ribs were smokey and perfectly tender. The collard greens were cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese was so cheesy and smoky. The corn bread was like eating a delicious cake. The potato salad was refreshing and had a yummy deviled egg taste. The yams tasted like Thanksgiving. I'm not even over exaggerating guys! Elk Grove finally has an absolute gem!!!! Well done Matt Horn and team!!!!

Yelp
This place has exactly the same taste I used to drive all the way to Oakland before, except now I can go and not worry that my car is gonna get broken into. They are still working out the kinks on the meat counter, but it will not impact the quality of the food, which is amazing. Brisket sandwich is the way. Honestly some of the best outside of an experienced backyard or Texas. I hope this place has a long and successful life. I will be back.

Yelp
The restaurant was beautiful but I didn't understand why we couldn't order at the counter and have our food brought to a table. We brought three toddlers with us and had to wait in line for 35 minutes to order. Would be a simpler process if we could just order and get a number. All the sides and bbq are served cafeteria style but we also ordered a chicken sandwich that didn't come out for ~20 minutes after we sat down to eat our food. Chicken sandwich was not good, bun was burnt and the chicken was dry. Bbq food was delicious, sides were OK, cornbread was a little dry, I wish we had some butter. They also only sell canned sodas, it was weird there was no drink counter. I think it's a missed opportunity to not have free refills on Lemonade, tea or soda. I was super excited for this place but I think they can do better. There was no manager or owner presence felt, and the person we interacted with most was a busser. Since it's a new restaurant we were hoping someone on site would want feedback and want to know how things were going.

Yelp
Good bbq! A whole lot better than Brode's that's for sure. Cornbread for the win. Just like any other bbq spot overpriced, but it was good. Will go back again.

Yelp
The bbq here was the best that I have had in a very long time. Brisket was melt in your mouth kinda meat and the ribs and sides were amazing. Service was great and I love that they have lots of space to accommodate for customers.

Yelp
Our first visit to this establishment was superb. I ordered pork ribs, a hot link, fried cabbage, and mac n' cheese. My friend got the brisket, smoked gouda link, granny's potatoes, yams, and cornbread. EVERYTHING tasted phenomenal. The brisket melts in your mouth. Our only complaint was that some of our sides were lukewarm. We asked if they could be reheated a little but were told they didn't have microwaves. No big deal, the flavors were still there. I do hope they figure out a new process for ordering the food, because in the summer months, having to stand in line due to a cafeteria style serving approach is not going be sustainable. All in all I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys great barbecue and service.

Yelp
Verdict - Pros. Brisket, pork belly burnt ends, spare ribs, potato salad, honey butter corn bread and bbq beans with brisket were some of the best BBQ I've had in California, Memphis, Nashville, St Louis, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Florida, Virginia, and Houston. Also, staff were very friendly and polite. Cons - 1 hr and 20 minutes wait in line. That's not going to work in the summer at 100+. They need to figure out how to expedite their "flow." There were plenty of empty seats so they have the capacity. Four stars due to the wait. Five stars for the food. Also a lot of "chat and cut" artists.
