Employees Sue Vernon Bakery For Alleged COVID-19 Deaths And Longterm Illnesses | Eater LA

"I learned that Slow Bloom Coffee was created after a Redlands coffee chain fired its staff for unionizing; the origin story involves the National Labor Relations Board and the shop ultimately becoming a worker-owned cooperative, a notable come-up story covered by Redlands Daily Facts." - Mona Holmes

I came to visit while I’m on a bit of a break from graduate school - how else to best celebrate then to explore the cafes of Redlands?! I came here around 6 am, and was welcomed into a warm atmosphere. Many come and go to grab a drink and chat with friends. I appreciate the amount of seating available both indoors and outdoors. The place is a place to work as well with plenty of accessible outlets - at least to the the extent I would expect from a good study cafe. I ordered a medium sized latte with almond milk, and it was exactly what I needed. I really appreciated the fact that no additional charges were placed for the alternative milks of almond milk and oat milk. The service is kind and respectful. The bathroom is also well maintained, and the place is more or less of a haven for weary souls. Thank you all for the nourishment. God bless you all!

The place didn’t leave much of an impression. It could have been slightly better, and the coffee definitely could have tasted better. It had a sour note and lacked that rich, inviting aroma you expect when walking into a coffee shop. The staff was polite, and the service was fast, but the quality of the coffee wasn’t really checked. I asked for an extra shot of espresso, but as you can see in the photo, the coffee came out with two very different color tones — not a great sign. On the bright side, the parking lot is large, which is a big plus. As for the pastries, nothing really stood out. I even hesitated to buy them.

Honestly it was pretty busy when we got there. But the chai was worth the wait. It reminded me of Augie's. I don't even remember what actually happened with that coffee shop but I remember they used to sell that gallon of chai! It was so good. But they shut down sadly, and if you're looking for that chai feel then head on over to slow bloom. They have great service, it may be busy but it's definitely worth the wait. I'll update later on the food, once I get a chance to try some. 💯

Google
Espresso w tonic ✨ The matcha latte was good, but the espresso is really unbeatable The pistachio rose croissant is ridiculously good - light on the rose flavor, pistachio crème pat filling, flakey buttery croissant. Out of control The vibe is very inviting and inclusive The staff are lovely Plus it’s a cooperative so the team are all part owners which is very cool

Google
Very hip coffee shop . They have a few interesting pastries . We got the olive and tomatoes focaccia ( it seemed to be a popular pick ) but we did enjoy it very much . Very dense almost tasted undercooked.. big and fluffy . But then we ordered a latte and that made up for everything ! It was so good ! Perfect notes . Just wow 🤩 plenty of seating outside and inside . Small parking lot though - fills up pretty quick !

Google
Traveling to visit family in Redlands and discovered Slow Bloom. What a delight. I enjoyed a flavorful, rich Latte and decided to try some of their beans to sip at home. All the staff were friendly and the setting is inviting. I can’t wait to return for another cup!

Cozy little coffee shop with ample seating and great coffee. Staff is friendly as well.

Google
Love this place! Amazing coffee and unique baked goods that use unique combinations. Great service and helpful employees. I had the pumpkin spiced latte and the pistachio cream filled croissant. It was amazing. I bought several other pastries and coffee beans to take home for later. Everthing was so delicious.

Yelp
Great cortado! Super busy coffee shop with nonstop people coming in. Which was a surprise. I typically order matcha but decided to try their cortado to see what the rave was about and it did not disappoint me. There were 3 people working on a busy day and their operation was on spot. Waiting period was not long despite the continuous line. The sitting space inside is small compared to outdoor sitting. Outdoor has great shading! There's a parking lot but I ended up parking on the street and parking lot was full. I would definitely come by again and try their pour over next time as they have many of options of pour over and I think that's what they're known for?!

Yelp
Coffee selection was not the best. Parking was also not the best. Inside was crowded but outside seating is available. Flavor of coffee was pretty good but way toooo much ice. If the review was solely based on the flavor of the coffee it would have been 5 stars.

Yelp
Solid spot for drinks and the perfect place for solo studying! I've been here a few times and am always satisfied with the drinks! Tip: There's limited seating so come alone or with just one friend! There's limited lot parking but street parking is usually easy to find!

Yelp
Soon as I walked in, the staff was great! Very welcoming and friendly. They do offer inside and outside seating. Kinda packed when I came. They have so many options to choose from. From drinks to pastries. I must say the scone was pretty good, decent pricing and good portion size. The drinks were great as well. Definitely a must try in the area

Yelp
The pastries and food are amazing. I travel from Riverside to support this business. I've had a good experience with customer service too. The space is small and eclectic. Some would say's it's a "vibe". I enjoy it very much. Try it out.

Yelp
Would give 4.5/5 As far as the coffee scene goes these days very reasonable price for the quality. $6.50 for the small pistachio latte I got. Questionable color but great taste! They also have a small pastry case as well but I didn't get any. They have a small parking lot plus street parking. Inside seats maybe 20-30 all 2-seater tables or at the bar. Tons of outlets plus extension cords, love that for students. Huge outside patio. Not too loud music but can get a little loud with conversation because this place is very small. Wifi was stable for me. Clean bathroom as well with feminine products! My biggest qualms would be that it gets pretty warm in here even for me who runs cold. The line extends outside so the door is constantly opened and closed letting in heat. I would also recommend putting a menu outside plus shade where the line is for the convenience of customers. Average service. They have stamp cards but you have to ask for one! Overall would come back but might not plan to stay a long time. Good coffee plus love their philosophy and aesthetic.

Yelp
Always have to stop by this shop whenever I'm in Redlands! I'm not usually a matcha person, but their Vienna Matcha was a 10/10 -- perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. The Danish was also amazing -- crispy, light, and just the right amount of sweetness. I tried the Pumpkin Latte too, and it was delicious! I loved that it had just enough pumpkin flavor without overpowering the coffee like other places tend to do. My only complaint: the matcha only comes in a 12oz -- I definitely need more of that for my fix!

Yelp
this place is a very cute spot ! i loved the vibe & the cleanness this whole shop had. I had their pistacho matcha & it was super good.
google avatar

Anoushka C.

Yelp
Super cute coffee shop with delicious snacks! There is usually a line out the door but it moves pretty quick. Some of the specialty drinks are very unique like the pineapple latte and the pistachio latte with pandan. There is plenty of seating both inside and outdoors and lots of people working. The parking lot is small, but there is 1 hr street parking available.

Yelp
Everything about this little coffee shop is great. The people working there, the coffee and the ambiance. I wish we lived closer to it! My little girls wanted to sit at the bar to have their hot chocolate and they loved looking at them making the drinks. The lattes were so good that my husband bought two bags of beans to take home. We had to go back the next day before we went back home. Definitely recommend their drinks.

Yelp
Cute store. Friendly staff. Changing menu. I've never been to a more hipster coffee shop. Their desserts are always fun to try. I'm not even a sugar person yet I find their pastries ultra delicious. Desserts I've had that were fire: Fig leaf cookie Seasonal fruit danish Rose cream filled croissant One thing I hate and love about this place is indeed their changing menu. It makes visiting them more fun because you look forward to trying new things. However once you fall in love with something and the season changes... then hello heartbreak. EXAMPLE THEIR BANANA BREAD LATTE. If any manager is reading this, then please consider putting the banana bread latte on the permanent menu. You'll make a ton of money out of me alone as I'll frequent this place daily. But anyway other yummy drinks I've had: Pistachio late Horchata late

Yelp
Saturday morning around 10AM and this spot is packed! We waited in line to order for about 15 minutes and then drinks came out about 10 minutes later. Ordered the blueberry matcha which was delicious! Really nice balance of flavors and there were small bits of blueberries which I really enjoyed. There was no overpowering sweetness either so the true taste of the blueberries shines through. I wish I snapped a shot before mixing the drink cause the gradient is beautiful too. Also got the pan a fromage croissant cause I was craving something savory. I think it would've been next level if lightly toasted before serving but still very good.

Yelp
Snow Bloom is a wonderful coffee shop that was started by former employees of Augie's. The quality and service are the same high quality that Augie's used to have, and I'm glad that they were able to get this started. Their drinks are delicious, all handcrafted to perfection. There isn't much else I can say that hasn't been said already, but if you find yourself looking for a good kick of caffeine in Redlands, check out Snow Bloom Coffee!
google avatar

Joanna R.

Yelp
This is a nice coffee shop to visit, not a lot of space indoors, but the outdoor seating is very spacious and comfortable. It felt welcoming. Very cute shop. The coffee was pretty good. I adjusted the sweetness to my taste. I got a hot flavored latte. Stayed for a while without feeling rushed. I definitely will be back and enjoyed my visit!
google avatar

Heewon K.

Yelp
Their cardamom bun is truly wonderful. I liked their americano as well. We ordered a bunch of drinks and my husband even got their beans. Service was good. The coffee shop is a must visit.
google avatar

Yelp
A cute retro coffee place to study or meet up with friends for a chat. Each and every worker is sweet and quick! Drinks are ready faster than your local starbucks! The strawberry matcha is my favorite around town! I've come in many times to study and always had a pleasant experience. A worker recommended the banana bread and it was delicious! will come again!
google avatar

Yelp
I came here with my dear friend fishbaikey after not seeing each other for like a year... when we got to hang out at slow bloom we were both exponentially less depressed than the last time we were together (the fact that we both got up at a normal person morning time to get coffee should already tell you enough) and the coffee was wonderful! At around 10:30 all the tables are full but the line isn't bad, but by the time it's 11:00 onwards there is both nowhere to sit and a line out the door so be warned. It's a pretty small space but cutesy interior and has a pretty hectic busy vibe. Not the most ideal study spot but great for talking without needing to whisper and get side eyed. Goes without saying that the cashier/baristas are all very nice and friendly, and the only downside is that the drinks are pretty expensive (my latte was like $8?!) but I'm not even taking a star down for that because 1. union shop yayyy and 2. It tastes expensive. I do not feel duped! I would not hesitate to come again even if I had to actually pay for my drink (love u baikey)

Yelp
What a great find! We were in town for the weekend and stopped by this coffee shop to meet some friends. It has a great vibe--cute decor and some plants around. A line was out the door at 9 a.m. on a Saturday, but there were seats inside and outside with shade. I was going to order coffee, but once I saw the pastries, I couldn't help but order one. There were gluten-free and vegan options. I had a pumpkin pie donut that was light and fluffy, and the pumpkin pie filling spilled out when you bit into it. I also had the pumpkin spice latte, which was homemade and not too sweet. My partner had "Fomo" iced coffee, and she enjoyed it. We sat outside for over an hour enjoying the coffee, and the line never slowed. Slow Bloom Coffee is definitely a local spot that is worth checking out.
google avatar

Jane O.

Yelp
This was my first time here & overall it's pretty great. I came on a Sunday afternoon and it was very busy. The vibe was very good. There was some seating inside and plenty more outside. I ordered an iced americano and a tried their vegan chocolate donut. Both Items were good but was priced somewhat high for a simple coffee and a single donut. I wish they had more food items but apparently they sale out fairly quickly here. It seems like an opportunity for the business to try a bit better to match demand... It also does get sort of loud, but I still found it comfortable enough to get some work done on my laptop. One downside was that the WiFi did not appear to be working. Of note, the WiFi info isn't posted so you'll have to have to ask for the passcode! I'll probably come back on a weekend, but will most likely try other shops in the area before that.
google avatar

Nina N.

Yelp
Heard so many good things about this place. And may I say, I was quite intimidated when I walked in. The vibes of this coffee shop is very...hipster. Are people still using this word? Every single table and chair was packed on a Sunday afternoon and everyone looked so cool and just enjoying their time. I got an iced chai and wanted to try some pastry offerings. Unfortunately they only had one item and I wasn't too interested in it. As for my coffee; it was made so quick and I was out the door. The chai was soo good! Friendly staff, quick service, good coffee. I'll definitely be coming back! Hoping to come early enough before all the pastries sell out!
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
Beware - grabbing a coffee and pastry at Super Bloom Coffee will quickly make your realize that the chains could never compete on quality or atmosphere! My beverage was delicious (and beautiful to look at before adding the lid!) and the pastry somehow tasted better than it looked - which is saying a lot! I absolutely recommend this coffee shop to get your caffeine fix and take a break during the day. Can't wait to be back!
google avatar

Brittney S.

Yelp
Really cool building for a coffee shop. I unfortunately always go when there's a line out the door, so very popular and successful shop. Their specialty lattes are good. My one complaint is they are an extremely political shop. From their instagram they stand on one extreme side of the political spectrum and put on events that spread confusion and negativity. I just want a coffee, pastry and a "good morning", nothing other than that. We all need a break from the media & news going on in the world. So I will continue going to other shops in the area.
google avatar

Diana V.

Yelp
Really really cute coffee shop! Service was really friendly and fast. I got the seasonal pistachio latte and my boyfriend got a cold brew with cinnamon sugar syrup. We both really enjoyed our coffees. The everything croissant was super good as well. I definitely recommend this place if you're out here in the area looking for coffee.
google avatar

Marie S.

Yelp
Very busy coffee shop with a comfy vibe. Staff is very friendly and drinks are tasty. Nice that they don't charge for alternative milks. Parking can be tricky but definitely worth the visit. Indoor and outdoor seating is a plus. A nice place to settle in and work for a bit
google avatar

Isabel V.

Yelp
Coolest coffee shop in the IE. Melodye is the best barista! Their entire staff is friendly and I love that they partner with Hayet Albi for the yummiest pastries that are fresh everyday. Plus they're open later than most shops in the area if you need an after work pick me up
google avatar

Leeanna C.

Yelp
Slow Bloom is located a bit back from the street it's on. Even though the parking lot is larger than other coffee shops, it shares it with a restaurant and during rush hour, there's seldom an open spot. There's also a long line to order at times. The cafe is small inside but they have outdoor seating and I've never had trouble finding a place to sit and sip. The drinks are good. Plenty of choices and you can't go wrong ordering anything here.
google avatar

Jasmine O.

Yelp
All I can say is... truly groovy. I literally felt like I stepped into the 60s & 70s. Super cute spot and pretty good lattes. I had the iced vanilla lavender
google avatar

Randy O.

Yelp
Start a new holiday tradition that's not pumpkin spice or peppermint. The café de olla is a refreshing change from the same ol', same ol'. Orange, cinnamon and mocha give a whole new twist to the idea of holiday coffee. So give your taste buds a vacation this Christmas.
google avatar

Lily A.

Yelp
I love their strawberry matcha, pumpkin spice latte, and their labneh danish. I have been coming here for a while and never had a problem with any of the staff members because of how open and welcoming they are. Today I had a different experience, a worker that I've never seen before, didn't catch his name but he had dark hair was very dismissive when I asked him when they bring the labneh danish and at first he was hesitant to answer and he just looked down and ignored my question and wrote on my cup. And so I asked again and I think he just made an answer up because he said everyday but Thursday. I've been here so many times and I sometimes never see the labneh danish available.
google avatar

Fernando F.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Would highly recommend. Coffee was amazing. Not loud
google avatar

Angela N.

Yelp
Nice little coffee shop in Redlands. We came on a Sunday morning and there was a line out the door the entire time. Inside felt a little cramped mostly because the tables are so close to each other. But there is plenty of seating outside. They have all of the basic coffee drinks that you'll find at any coffee shop all year round. Then they have a seasonal menu depending on the time of the year. We ordered from their Spring drinks. I ordered the Strawberry Daydream which is house strawberry milk topped with Mizuba Matcha. It wasn't too sweet and the quality of the matcha was great. My fiancé ordered a Raspberry Caramel Latte. He said it was a unique combination but enjoyed it!
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
Eh? Weird place. Employees aren't the friendliest. They open when they want to open and close when they want to close. I went one time and they were supposed to be open till 8pm and they said sorry we are closing at 1 pm today.
google avatar

AK A.

Yelp
The place is super cute! But. The coffee is gross. Water downed no flavor, the employees are okay not rude or anything. Wouldn't go back. Also so crowded. No place to wait for the drinks.

Alexis C.

Yelp
Coffee was really good, would most definitely come back again... There is always clientele, no matter the time of day! Which tells a lot! Really delicious place
google avatar

Bre F.

Yelp
Really great spot! Good coffee with ample seating. Really unique vibe. Enjoyed my coffee and my time here. Would definitely come again

Yelp
This was our second stop on our coffee tour around the Redlands/San Bernardino area, and overall it was just okay. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was lively, great energy and fully packed, which is always a good sign for business. I ordered the Banana Bonita as a Matcha Latte instead of espresso. The banana flavor definitely came through, but the drink was a bit too milky for my taste, I'd rate it a 6/10. My coworker got the Iced Horchata Cold Brew, but the cold brew tasted a little sour and the horchata flavor was barely noticeable. Based on the hype, we were expecting a bit more. Still, we grabbed a stamp card and may stop by again during our summer internship to try something different and give it another shot.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Stopped on the way out from LA to Palm Springs and was so glad we did. There's a vibe from the minute you roll up. Outdoor patio, a breezy interior, people getting work done - so nice. The coffee here is SO good. I ordered an oat milk latte, but saw at the last second there was a black sesame flavor in one of the other drinks. I asked if I could add the flavoring to my latte and it was no problem. Absolutely delicious. I'm sure that even without the black sesame flavoring that the coffee would still taste incredible. Drinks took a little bit to come out, but a large portion of their menu is speciality drinks, so depending on what you order, be patient - it's worth it!! They've got pastries avail for purchase as well. Will definitely add to my list of places to stop on road trips out to the desert.
google avatar

Marco C.

Yelp
Walked in not knowing what to expect. The staff was great and very friendly. I sat at the counter top to wait for my drink and was very impressed. First I got a Horchata Cold Brew 10/10. Finished my day with a Banana Bonita 10/10. Everyone was enjoying their time there. I was able to enjoy the outdoor patio and loved the set up. Def will go back.
google avatar

Hannah S.

Yelp
"Best Latte of 2024!" - Me "Second that!" - My husband who values coffee way more than me, lol. :D This latte was a smooth magical joy of rich n' creamy milk to the bold, subtle chocolatey flavor of the espresso with just the right amount of foam! Some may call it "a walking masterpiece in a travelers mug", and those folks would be exactly right. I'd highly rec stopping in! The staff is friendly, the vibe is cool. It could be a to-go order or a spot to meet a friend for a chat. Either way, go get a latte!
google avatar

Ivy V.

Yelp
Always enjoy their lattes. Never disappointed. Coffee has a nice rich taste. Come out & support this small business. Their backstory is truly remarkable.

Olive T.

Yelp
It was my first time trying this place and I was really excited about it! The coffee is pretty good but the baristas are kind of rude which is a bummer it seems like they pick and choose who they are nice to, really cute place but I don't think i'll be returning bc of the service
google avatar

Tiahna V.

Yelp
Coffee is bomb dot com and the vibes are immaculate. Seasonal menus are always my favorite drinks are their lavender latte which is offered year round and the strawberry daydream which is a matcha drink only offered in the Spring
google avatar

Moe G.

Yelp
Ive had a bunch of their drinks; all delicious. Today had a strawberry matcha. Love that they have outdoor seating , and service is always amazing. I recommend the La pastora whole beans if that's your jam.
google avatar

Rose P.

Yelp
My office recently moved to a building off of this exit and it's open early so I've been able to stop by a couple of times before starting my day. It's quick even when there's a line the wait isn't bad at all. I kind of like that there's not much outside of beverages but sometimes I wish I could just get like a croissant too. Overall it's good. I like that they have seasonal menus
google avatar

Summer M.

Yelp
I stopped here on the way home from a friend's house. I think I ordered the butter pecan latte. EXCEPTIONAL!! I feel like I'm always let down. Maybe not always. Like .. HALF the time at little coffee shops. But this place had it. It was delicious. If I'm ever back in that vicinity, it's definitely worth a stop!
google avatar

Suzanne C.

Yelp
Service was super friendly and everything was delicious. Sitting inside and outside. Chill vibe.
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
i usually do the vanilla latte here and occasionally try their seasonal drinks when they come out with a new menu. this time, i ordered the cherry amor and it was kinda disappointing. it lacked the cherry flavor thats in the name, yet, very strong on the cardamom. perhaps, i don't have the best taste buds for cherry. dunnooo but nonetheless, i love this place and will continue to come back to try their new drinks!
