Slow Burn Review - Watkins Park - Nashville - The Infatuation

"There are people out there who swear by the blistering birds from Slow Burn. For us, it hasn’t quite been the same since it closed its East Nashville location (along with the Madison and Hendersonville outposts). They’re still bringing the “heat” though (sorry), albeit from a food truck and a new delivery-only space in Midtown Foods. There’s crispy, tongue-numbing bliss to be found here, especially in some of its more unique creations, like the hot chicken apple fritters—an unexpected flavor combo that you’ll find yourself thinking about at random times during the day." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Service was excellent and timely. The food was pretty good, but not the best that Nashville has to offer regarding hot chicken. The coleslaw was fresh and tasted housemade, as did the buttermilk ranch. The beans were good, a little clumpy though. The biggest surprise was the chicken. The chicken was not on par with comparable restaurants in my opinion. The seasoning was spicy, but lacked the taste of Nashville Hot Chicken (brown sugar most notably). The chicken also was not a juicy and/or greasy as other restaurants, which is what makes Nashville Hot Chicken great. The bread underneath was alright, but the dish was missing pickle slices. Overall, I think that it was a pretty good spicy chicken meal, but not what I would recommend for someone looking to get a real taste of Nashville Hot Chicken.

By far the best Nashville hot chicken! This location is take out only so place your order online or via phone. Slow Burn is so much more than just hot spice, the flavor is amazing! So happy I can walk to Slow Burn from my house.

Really good hot chicken! The spiciness really does slowly build in your throat and tongue - I got the spiciest level, which didn’t feel too bad in the first couple of bites but was way too spicy for me to finish afterwards. The sides were great, especially the okra.

They have the best okra in Nashville. The hot chicken is really good with the fries. The hot lemon pepper chicken is also great.

If you’re looking for authentic Nashville hot chicken without the generic spill, this is your spot. Nothing we ate wasn’t good. I got the four piece wings w/ Mac & cheese on the side, my wife had the tenders, we got my daughter a side plate, & had some egg rolls from them. Everything was fantastic! But I must warn you, the egg rolls are spicy! If you like spicy food, they’re good, if not you may want to ask if they have a milder version. If you’re in town & looking for something authentic to Nashville, this is your spot!

The hot chicken apple fritter was amazing, I didn't think hot chicken and doughnuts would go so well together but the spicy and sweet flavors really complement each other. My chicken sandwich in on fire (hot) was really good as well, the heat builds over time and I had to take a break halfway through. Our order took about 25 minutes to come out, but was definitely worth the wait - will be back next time we're in Nashville.

Best hot chicken in Nashville; we tried them all while we lived there. Always friendly staff, spice levels can vary day to day but it’s always packed with the right flavors. Order online for the best experience.

I love hot chicken - LOVE - and have eaten at numerous hot chicken restaurants across the metro. But I don't live in Nashville any longer, so whenever I'm in town I always grab some. I tried Slow Burn today for the first time and was disappointed. I ordered the "Hot" level of tenders and some fries - my "usual" when trying out a new hot chicken place. Unfortunately the fries were undercooked and under-seasoned and the chicken breading was similarly soggy. I wanted to love it. Then I just tried to like it. But in the end it just wasn't able to make myself finish it. I will say in their favor that the online ordering was easy to use, they do give generous portions, and the service was courteous.
