SlowBurn has been nothing short of transformative for me. I had always exercised, I run, but never actually did any strength training. I felt something was lacking and I wanted to improve my running performance, so eight years ago at age 60, I started training at SlowBurn. Working with Rosanne and Tommy helped me reach the finish line for 7 of my last 9 marathons and #10 is now two months away and I'm still training and I'm stronger than ever! Returning to Fred Hahn and Slow Burn after 20 years to re-introduce my body to it's formal self. It's never to late to start and it's never too late to re-start. I began weight training over 60 years ago, with Vic Tanny, one of the first to create gym clubs using focused machines to build strength in targeted zones. Rumor had it that 60 years ago Vic Tanny learned the key to lasting strength from Charles Atlas, a World Champion body builder for many years. Vic Tanny and then Jack Lalane became two successful chains that ignited the Fitness Industry. For me, Slow-Burn has it's roots in what Charles Atlas would refer to "Dynamic Tension", referred to today as resistance training, working your body 30-60 second through muscle failure. So for me, coming back to Slow-Burn is like re-introducing myself to myself just 60 years later. The good news is my body weight has been consistent and so my muscle tone is already responding after just 4 30-minute weekly sessions of Slow-Burn. While 2 of my stomach's 6-packs were lost in my 60 year hiatus from working out, I do see one more pack trying to emerge since re-starting with Fred's Slow-Burn technique. That's a good thing. Slow-Burn is great for those of us who honor the value of indendepent workouts with a one-on-one model. My trainer is also amazing. A happily satisfied continuing customer. I'm not a big photo poster so please don't ask, but at 6ft. 2in., 180 lbs with 4-packs still visible and 5 pounds lighter than when I was 16 and playing football, I'm feeling good thanks to Slow-Burn.

I can't say enough great things about Fred Hahn and SlowBurn training. I've known Fred for over 20 years and he's seen me through many stages of my health, and fitness needs. From my "wedding fit" days, to my postpartum "get back in shape" era, to my mature women "stay healthy" phase. With proper diet and a half-hour a week weight training at SlowBurn Studio, I've been able to stay fit, and feel great. The gym is quiet, clean and NEVER crowded. A true personal fitness experience!

I have been going to slow burn for years and truly believe it is one of the very best workouts available. It is one of the safest and effective means to build lean muscle while protecting your joints . I have referred many patients and always get rave reviews . The bonus is the 20 minutes twice a week is perfect for my schedule.

I couldn't be happier!! In just the couple of months I've been working with Fred (just one session per week!), I've already lost fat, gained muscle, and felt stronger and more confident. He is kind, gentle, and encouraging but also pushes me always to do my best and work my hardest. In addition, I'm a person who always gets injured when I exercise, but no longer! Fred is so careful and cautious in his training that I've never even felt a strain from my workouts. It's almost like physical therapy in many ways! Re: COVID safety concerns: This gym is different than most gyms where you hire a personal trainer because at SlowBurn, you and your trainer are the only ones in the gym (vs being in a gyms with tons of people). I highly recommend trying a session if you're ready for something new that works.

When I first joined SS I saw almost immediate results in body comp and just about immediate results in energy and vitality. I would highly recommend reading Fred's book first , "The Slow Burn Fitness Revolution" which is available on Amazon and hopefully will be in e-book format soon. The book can be read in under two hours but gives you a great holistic view of what you are about to undertake in terms of training and even diet. The gym is the cleanest gym I have ever been to. It's cozy but has more than enough room to accommodate at least three personal sessions going on at one time. While I have not worked with all the trainers, the ones I have worked with have been enthusiastic, helpful, encouraging and knowledgeable. Like any personal training sessions they are definitely pricey but the view here is that with this type of work out, you really only need 1-2 sessions per week to see results. If money is tight you can do one home session (which is detailed in his Book) and one gym session per week. Because you are using one slow set to failure, working out at home is not that hard and minimal equipment is needed. I can't think of anything I'd change about Serious Strength and it's a pleasure to be able to focus on training when actually training and not be barraged by gym full of people.

I can't say I enjoy working out. However, twice a week for 1/2 hour? That's not bad. After doing it for about six months, I DO enjoy working out. And not just here. I supplement it by going to another gym, doing cardio once or twice a week (they may not want me to say that on this review). Slow Burn does two things for me. It makes me feel stronger and healthier. It also jump starts my week as a reminder to be healthy. Like after visiting a doctor, and saying "this time I really am going to cut out bread and too much meat". But this is a weekly reminder. And a sustainable reminder. It ain't cheap. But the machines look like they belong in a physical rehab facility, not a gym. And the trainers are truly TRAINERS. Not the kind you get at your neighborhood gym. They are specialized, exacting, and very conscientious. AND TRAINED! The place is great if you can work it into your life (easy, as it's 1/2 an hour) and your budget. I highly recommend this unique facility

Excellent 1 on 1 training. Slow burn is an entirely different approach which gave me a completely new way of looking at fitness and weight training. Highly recommended.

The slow burn system taught at Serious Strength by Fred and his fantastic staff will get you strong and keep you that way for the long haul. Their nutritional advice and strength training can't be beat! Highly recommended.

I've had only had one experience here, and it will be the last. This place is a JOKE!!! The training sessions are completely ridiculous. I'd call it a HUGE waste of time, but then again those cheapskates only gave me 15 minutes. The staff is BRAINLESS! They have no idea what they're talking about, at all. Aren't you supposed to have a clue about physical fitness to be a trainer? I think they're the ones who need to be trained, and learn what a physical fitness workout actually is. I tried to use clean language throughout my review of this TERRIBLE gym, and boy was it hard. My recommendation: DO NOT GO HERE. It will be the biggest waste of time (15 minutes) you've ever had.

As a bicoastal gal, I workout at Serious Strength whenever in Manhattan, and continue practicing Fred Hahn's Slow Burn method when on the left coast. I trained here for several years before my work required me to travel back and forth to LA. Like most people and especially as an ex-dancer, I had been lead to believe a plethora of exercise myths. I had tried almost every exercise method out there. Fred Hahn and his staff are the most knowledgeable instructors I have ever found (and I have found many) in understanding exercise and nutrition through true up to date scientific research. What I love about it is that you can achieve all the benefits exercise can provide in 1-2 sessions per week. It was hard for me to understand that you don't need to be in the gym everyday to lose weight and be healthy, but I have never looked and felt better in my life and I literally exercise 30 minutes per week. For me, the proof is in the puddin! (except they don't advice you eat puddin ;). I am just hoping Fred will open a gym in Los Angeles!

This is not directly about the gym, however I cant recommend the workout highly enough - as outlined in the book "Slow Burn Fitness Revolution" by the owners of Serious Strength -- the basis of the workouts done at Serious Strength. Its the BEST. I was fortunate enough to come across a recommendation by Dr. Bruce West about this workout almost 12 years ago. And I've followed the workout most of the last decade. I started it in my mid 50s and am now mid 60's This workout has allowed me to maintain my stamina, travel, be independent, stay fit, enjoy occasional recreational sprints, and stay healthy. AND its truly seriously only 30 minutes a week to do. I've recommended it to a number of friends. I cant tell you what fun it is to have young buff guys offer to lift my luggage into the overhead bin only to swing it up there myself with ease. I appreciate their offer but love breaking up the stereotype which is implied. My answer to their surprised look is - "Strength training works."
