I was at the Beaverton foodcarts where theres a ton of stuff. I decided upon this place and I had no idea what to order. I asked the guy for a recommendation and he kindly pointed me towards the Monte Crisco and kindly explained a few more sandwiches. I got waffle fries also. Excellent sandwich and fries, the guy was very nice and excellent service. I would definitely go back. Customer service and food was great. Parking was easy with a big free lot near by. The foodcarts were quite busy. Many closed at 7 (idiots) but this place was open later.

Writing this review actually makes me really sad because when I've ordered in person, my food is always incredible. However, I don't have a car so sometimes I order through a delivery app, and every single time it's absolutely awful. Today takes the cake though and I don't know if I'll be back because I'm THAT disappointed. My pictures speak for themselves but every single thing on both sandwiches I got were overcooked/burned and they were just SO dry. The cheese was crusty because it had been cooked for so long. The eggs were dry from how long they sat there. I just can't believe they would send out food this terrible and I'm so incredibly disappointed, especially considering how expensive their food is. Had I been there in person I would have asked them to remake it because this is just not acceptable quality. I used to absolutely love this place but the fact that they clearly don't care about the quality of delivery orders makes me never want to go back.

I like the thin waffles used to make these sandwiches! Anything with the maple butter is so good! Definitely need to eat it immediately for best waffle texture. The longer it stays in the container the softer the waffle gets. The bacon and sausage and cheese here is really high quality and there are lots of vegetarian and vegan options too. The sweet waffle with blueberries and lemon Bavarian creme is excellent! I also really like the salad they make here. It's a spinach salad with beets, blueberries, soft goat cheese, shaved almonds, and a light and tangy dressing that is so tasty!

Google
Smaaken Waffle Sandwiches is the best place in Beaverton to get a waffle for under $15! Whether you get something sweet or savory, every waffle made here is fresh and there are options for any time of the day. I got the Whip It and there was no shortage of sweetness, with the waffle being packed with whipped cream and powdered sugar. Briar was very kind, and the service that I received was fast and I was even given a sample of their house made Bavarian Cream. If you're looking for a good place for tasty waffles at a good price, I highly recommend Smaaken Waffle Sandwiches!

Google
I have had savory waffles at the Hawthorne location, so I decided to try sweet waffles here. Since they don't offer waffles with fresh fruit, I opted for the strawberry jam waffle. It was a bit sweeter than I prefer, but the waffle itself was fluffy with a slightly crispy exterior and quite delicious.🤤

Google
We come here each time we visit and each time fall in love all over. Its such a simple food to create but you can tell they have fun and make cool waffle fusions. Obviously as a Nutella lover anything nutella is perfect but the cocotella is a trip down memory lane and never misses.

Google
My waffles arrived to me unevenly cold and mushy, which was unfortunate since they looked excellent. I admit that I ordered through Doordash; however, my dasher came straight from the carts (and I don't live far away). I could tell that the whipped cream had a nice sweet-but-not-too-sweet flavor that I enjoyed, but the quality of the waffles was pretty disappointing. I also ordered a mocha which was cold too and didn't taste that great compared to coffee I would be able to get from other places.

Google
The waffle fries were cold, Amsterdam sandwich with maple butter was not great once the novelty wore out. and the hibiscus tea tasted like water even though I had asked for it to be sweetened with lemonade. the cooks were all very nice, although the pos system was slow at the time of my visit. I imagine the sweet waffles may be better but I was not interested in coming back.

Yelp
Most amazing waffle food cart I've ever tried. To be fair, this is the only waffle food cart I've ever tried. But what's not to love about all natural waffles, smothered in butter and cheese, with real maple syrup? Nothing, I tell you. Absolutely nothing.

Andrew L.

Yelp
So like, the guy working there was actually pretty chill -- no complaints about that. Super mellow vibe, seemed like he was just out here doing his thing. But bro... the chicken maple sandwich? That thing was a travesty. I don't know what went wrong, but it was like eating a sad, confused pancake that forgot what flavor was supposed to taste like. The chicken was somehow both dry and greasy (don't ask me how, I'm still processing it), and the maple part tasted like it was trying to be sweet but gave up halfway through. Just an all-around strange, disappointing experience that left my tastebuds feeling personally attacked

Yelp
Very good waffles. Big bonus because they do GF waffles too! They are on the more savory side so they go with their savory sandwiches or can be dressed up with syrup or sweets too. Got plain just to try it. And one with maple syrup butter. Both were great and I would go back again and try some of their other combos.

Yelp
Park of BG's Food Cartel, Smaaken Waffle Sandwiches serves up way more than chicken and waffles. I was nervous when my friends suggested this spot, I've had waffle sandwiches before that were too much waffle and not enough filling... or just a mess to eat. But Smaaken has the perfect balance. The waffles are thinner so that they're more like slices of bread than a thick meal of their own. The toppings are well balanced and they have gluten free and vegan options. They were open late on the night we visited and have typical breakfast options as well as sandwiches with ham and Turkey, bacon, veggies, chicken and even sweet options. It took about ten to fifteen minutes for our order to be ready but it came out hot and fresh and tasted great! Keep an eye out for their specials and don't forget that they have other items like waffle fries.

Yelp
First, I want to say I am a Smaaken fan, have hit a couple in Portland over the years and I live near one in Woodstock, but the attitude I received from someone that obviously shouldn't be in hospitality/food service or needs to stay home after a bender the night before, he was basically just an ass. Good Morning Sunshine, it's a beautiful day, thanks for trying to ruin mine. The sandwich was good, but I will not return to this cart, (Tattoos on his arms, just for ID, it was a Friday AM) that is probably why this Smaaken cart gets low ratings.....pull up your pants big boy and try to be nice, you'll feel better about yourself. you only get 3 stars because of the food.

Yelp
The sandwiches are amazing! Service is awesome too particularly when Jaren is working. The Belmont sandwich is so fire! The blue moon desert is light and soo good. Monte Carlo is super yummy too! We have definitely become regulars.

Yelp
Waffles are a family favorite. Both of my minions dragged me out of the house pretty early on a weekend morning to get waffles and espresso and eat outside at this food truck in an outdoor food court /food truck extravaganza in Beaverton. We got: - a Monte Carlo waffle ( turkey, raspberry jam, cheese, maple butter). - a Monte Cristo waffle ( ham, strawberry jam, cheese, maple butter). - a Holla waffle (super fluffy egg, cheddar, nicely cooked bacon, maple butter) It is all made to order so it is not fast but everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. The waffles are great. There were plenty of tables with umbrellas. Everyone was masked even outdoors. Parking is a little sketchy. Plan accordingly. Both espresso trucks that used to be here are apparently gone, so get your coffee before you come get your food if fancy coffee is a priority. Smaaken Waffles provided a lip smacking yummy breakfast. They have tons of choices: sweet, savory, vegetarian, vegan, meaty, fruity, and nutty. Their menu was extensive. I didn't spot the most probably delightful brie or goat cheese waffles until after we ordered. I really like brie and goat cheese. We will be back.

Yelp
Ordered a beautiful waffle sandwich. the ingredients were amazing. My first bite told me i was going to love this sandwich. Luckily I turned my sandwich so I could admire all the good stuff... the entire center on the pork sausage was raw. Not just pink but raw. I returned the sandwich. They said that was how they cook their pork sausage. That's totally unacceptable. Never never never eat raw pork.

Yelp
The scrumptious Vegan Sardou waffle sandwich hits the spot! The creamy braised spinach & artichokes was bursting with flavor sandwiched between 2 hot crispy waffles topped with lemon aioli. I appreciate how the waffles weren't too thick or dense and didn't overpower the sandwich. I wasn't a big fan of the fried Ota tofu, it was a bit tough and didn't quite mesh well with the sandwich. Hold the tofu! Glad I added Tillamook cheddar cheese, which elevated the flavor. While the sandwich was filling, it would be nice to have a small side of fries or chips included. Skip the fries! The waffles fries were tepid and after an exhaustive search, I found only 1 hot fry. Within a minute, the fries were all stone cold. I threw away the entire container, which is very rare and difficult for me as I hate wasting food. The fries weren't worth salvaging and reheating for later, $4 thrown in the trash. The service was a bit stand-offish and took 15 minutes to prepare my order. Among my favorite BG food carts! Excited for our next trip out to Portland from VA to see hubby's family and grab another Vegan Sardou waffle sandwich!

Yelp
This was just what I wanted, a perfect mix of savory, sweet, crunchy, and gooey. I got a Monte Cristo, I really liked the addition of the jam, which added a bit if tartness. I was worried the ham might be salty and debated whether to get it with turkey, but the ham was great. The cheese was perfectly melted and satisfyingly stretchy. The waffle is thin and crispy, which is how I like it for a sandwich. Also got waffle fries, which were also nice and crunchy, with the lemon and sriracha garlic aiolis. The lemon one had a really good tang, and the sriracha garlic had a nice little kick. Service was friendly and gave a good estimate of how long it would take. There's lots of picnic tables at BG Food Cartel.

Yelp
Best waffles and waffles fries very tasty. Services is amazing Charles and Jared at Beaverton Oregon location ...

Yelp
Smaaken Waffles has some really good breakfast sandwiches. Enough so that it has now become our go-to place for a quick and tasty breakfast when we're having a slow weekend morning. Their Chicken and Waffle sandwich is on the level. I mean it is tasty and filling but you gotta get it with all the bells and whistles. I'm talking the Chicken and Waffle with maple butter w/ lettuce, tomato and the siracha aioli. The breakfast sandwiches are legit too. If it's a weekend try and call it in ahead because they get slammed. The people know it's good so it's busy. For a quick, tasty breakfast on the go you can't do better. You owe this to yourself.

Yelp
We checked it out in a chilly morning, just want to get some waffle for breakfast. My boyfriend went to get the waffle sandwich while I ordered a crepe next door. He returned much later and said the staff was not friendly nor helpful with his questions. "Bumper" I said, hoping the waffle would make up for his ordering experience. We got our crepe first. We wanted to wait for the waffle but we were too hungry, so we ate our crepe and waited and waited. Finally they were ready and we received our waffle sandwich from the pick up window. The first glance... it was pretty disappointing. Ou waffle sandwiche didn't look like the menu pictures at all. We flipped open the waffles to find little fillings inside. We bit into the waffle to get a taste, and it was ok. My boyfriend was disappointed thru out the whole experience, which was a bummer because it was his idea and he was excited to to try it.. I personally think the waffle itself was pretty good, but we pay for the whole sandwich though... overall, we sadly did not enjoy the experience nor the food enough to return again. We will probably grab some crepes though!

Yelp
We were at the BG Food Cartel and wanted something sweet. They recommended the Blue Moon so we tried it. First it's a great waffle- crispy outside and fluffy inside, second- it's a lot of waffle! We ended up taking the top half off and eating it like an open face waffle. Took a star off because the whipped cream totally over powered the vanilla lemon Bavarian cream (which was more like lemon curd). Would try a different waffle when we come back to the cart pod.

Yelp
Thankful this was one of the few food places open in the BG Cartel on Easter Sunday. This food slapped. They had both vegan and vegetarian options along with savory and sweet, which provides plenty of reasons to come back and find something different. The sandwiches are reasonable prices for the amount of food provided. I liked that when I asked about a menu modification the person taking orders said "sure" with a smile. I like being able to personalize food to my tastes so this was an added bonus. Would definitely return.

Yelp
Overall: It was good, but definitely could be better. Plenty of room for improvement. I don't think I'll be coming back here. Atmosphere: This place will always continue to have customers because of its great location. It is located in the BG food cartel and is the only waffle place. Food: I had the Monte Carlo sandwich which included Turkey, melted Swiss, house-made Raspberry Jam, Maple Butter & Dusted Powdered Sugar. The combination of the sweet and savory was great. I just felt like the sandwich could use some more material. It was just slim and left me wanting more. I found myself still hungry after finishing it. This was more of snack than a meal. Service: The most basic service. Was not good, was not bad.

Yelp
I have not been disappointed with any waffle I have tried here. I am especially excited that all waffles can be made Gluten Free. Not once have they told me they were out of that option, which frequently happens at other places. Pretty laid back and delicious. Love the sweet and savory options and there are vegan options too.

Erin F.

Yelp
I've been here twice. The first time I went here it was amazing, I got the vegan sardou and the vegan chocolate ganache. The sardou had amazing flavor, and was overflowing with the artichoke sauce, and the tofu was big and coming outside of the waffles the chocolate ganache was good but just tasted exactly like the bottled hersheys syrup. The second time I went Today my sardou sandwhich was so measly. The tofu was so tiny, fit like half the sandwhich, and the artichoke sauce was also only on the tofu and not the entire waffle. It still tasted very good, but I'm rly disappointed with the way they half-heartedly filled my sandwhich

Yelp
I went there Sunday and had the Holla Breakfast Sandwich.. It was beyond good. I would absolutely go again!

Yelp
For my sister's birthday we drove down from Seattle to Portland and walked around this food pod area and decided to try this place. Unfortunately it was pouring rain but this cute food truck has a bar area attached the the side of where we can eat that was dry. the food is delicious but the fries could be more warm

Annel A.

Yelp
This is the location for the bgs food carts in Beaverton. ! Even though the food might look appetizing, I ordered the truffle raspberry jam waffle sandwich, The jam was just sour, the whipping cream tasted like cold sour cream and the chocolate was so bitter! This wasn't a treat more like a disgusting meal. The food truck on the inside had food and trash all over the floor and tables, looks so dirty and unsanitary, The man who was cashier was on his phone the whole time and then going up to touch the waffles gross!! I asked if we get something else because we didn't like the waffle they made, he said no they will not offer us something else. And no refunds. Rude customer service and do not recommend!! Go to mojo crepes instead or something

Yelp
Smakken those waffles. Smaaken very much!!! SO nice to have some vegan options that are a bit different. Smakken is a favorite of my kids. How can you say NO to these delicious waffles?! I am NOT a big fan of sweet but man sometimes these are essential. The whip cream just melts in your mouth and the chocolate mmmmmm...there is nothing wrong with a little sweet every now and then! I highly suggest placing your order online and then going to pick up. That avoids the issues of a lot of people have complained about such as the long waits. Waffles aren't something that get cooked in a fryer for 30 seconds. These are made to order and they do vegan and non-vegan options so I appreciate the wait to know I am getting a vegan waffle with vegan toppings ;) They're yummy and your kids will definitely love them!

Yelp
YUM! The service was quick and the sammies were tasty. I had the chicken BLT, my friend had the chicken cordon bleu, and my partner had the chicken maple. All lovely options. I rated my sandwich (the BLT) a 7 out of 10. Their lavender matcha drink is TO DIE FOR. so delish. The waffle fries and sauces were all tasty too. Great experience!!

Yelp
The food cart still has the Halloween decorations on it but the menu was clear to understand and they had lots to choose from, I had trouble deciding. In the end, I decided to get a savory one: Holla. It contains crispy bacon, 1-inch thick and light egg (round-shaped, like a patty) and a little bit of cheese (I asked for light cheese). It took awhile before she got my order since there was one person working and I think they want to emphasize on the freshness so they took a few orders at a time. When I got mine it was def. hot and fresh. The waffle WAS DELICIOUS AND I RARELY COMPLIMENT ON WAFFLES. Crunchy on the outside but not hard. It had a little bit of sweetness to it because of the syrup butter and it went well with the savory part of my order. It was a little pricey but I found this to be creative and delicious so having this once in awhile ain't bad. I can't wait to try their other dishes, both savory and sweet!

Aspen D.

Yelp
A great variety of sweet and savory waffles. Plus, their waffle fries are delicious. Fresh ingredients.
google avatar

Natasha K.

Yelp
We ordered from this shop today via DoorDash and I was very excited to try it out. I ordered a Windmill and my fiancé ordered the Bacon Maple. The taste was delicious but the waffles were soooo soggy by the time we got our order. Also my fiancé's sandwich was literally just a waffle and bacon and cost $12. The prices are astronomical! We also got waffle fries which were extremely salty. Waffle fries and 4 sandwiches cost $70. Really ridiculous for waffle sandwiches. Glad I tried it once but probably won't be ordering again.
google avatar

Arci R.

Yelp
I hate how expensive they are because I would eat here constantly if I could. SO good. The spinach/Artichoke one is to die for.. The brie/apple is also delicious. Their waffle fries are amazing and aren't overly salty. They do everything right. 10/10
google avatar

Jina H.

Yelp
After lunch, friends and I split a sweet Raspberry truffle waffle- raspberry jam, chocolate ganache, and fresh whipped cream. The order came out and you could see all three layers. You could taste each flavor as well which was nice, the chocolate did overpower the other flavors a little bit though. It was nice to have the whipped cream not melt on the hot waffle. The waffle itself was thin but a nice touch of crispiness on the outside and soft on the inside. Before eating though, there was a small spider we found on top of the waffle. We removed t easily but it would be nice for the employees to check over the order before releasing it

Violet W.

Yelp
delish!! ordered one with egg, cheese and veggie sausage and it was incredible. next time i would try a sweet one for sure
google avatar

Charlie T.

Yelp
A cool place to get either something kind of brunchy or lunch. I had the Windmill which had eggs, pork sausage, tillamook cheddar, and some maple butter between two semi thin waffles. The waffle sandwich was nice and simple and it went well together. The sandwich also was not too heavy. The service is nice and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Apparently Tuesday is a little slow in food cart world. My old steadies were closed so I gave this a try. I ordered the one with spiced apples and sausage and cheese. The waffle wasn't really anything special but I was curious how a sandwich would be made. I was pleased with the amount of cheese on the sandwich. Fortunately it was great for my son who ate it up. For me though, I don't know if the apples were infused in something but I didn't see no apples. The sausage was pretty good and had good texture. A hair under but I'm ok with that. Price seemed a touch high for what I got. But pleasing the two year old can't really carry a price tag.
google avatar

Raychel L.

Yelp
You guys are amazing, I had special cooking instructions and you guys were perfect in helping with that. I'll definitely be ordering more!
google avatar

Bijana K.

Yelp
I don't think this is my first Smaaken Waffle...it's possible I've had one at another food cart before, but I can't remember. I can't remember because I LOVE LOVE LOVE waffles as sandwich bread, so I've had it at a few places. We were directed to this food cart pod after visiting Curiosities Vintage Shop around the corner and we were grateful for the recommendation! I don't have a total sweet tooth, but wasn't feeling it for a cheese and veggie waffle (the savory vegetarian option), so I did it up with a sweet peanut butter - chocolate - banana waffle. It was DIVINE deliciousity. Why, yes, I did just read a certain Orange book just recently. Anyway, I honestly couldn't have been happier with my waffle and look forward to returning in future. My dining companion had a ham and cheese and jam waffle which was also good, but not as good as mine. There was something about the jam that just didn't work perfectly with the ham and cheese...maybe too sweet, maybe too sour, maybe not sweet enough...? I would still eat that again, too.
google avatar

Chad M.

Yelp
Stick with the sweet stuff. Savory sandwiches tend to be small for the prices they charge. Especially the fried chicken stuff like the Cordon Bleu. Found that sandwich disappointing, the chicken patty overcooked and small. That said the sweet options under $7ish bucks are all very good and worth your time. Monte Carlo was an exception to the above, seemed pretty solid for the price. Tends to be slow at rush times so plan ahead. Recommended, but stick the sweets!

Crystal H.

Yelp
If you're lucky on a good day you can walk a way with a great sandwich. If you come on a day where they prioritize to go orders you'll be waiting just a long. We ordered in person and 45 minutes later we are still waiting, watching all the to go orders that where placed online walk away with their orders. There needs to be a better system to handle in person and to go orders. Making people 45 minutes to an hour for a quick sandwich is ridiculous.
google avatar

Christopher T.

Yelp
Ordered the Elvis sandwich on Grubhub at 8:40 am from the Beaverton location. Undercooked bacon.
google avatar

Kelsey S.

Yelp
Super delicious! It's sometimes hard for me to find vegan AND gluten free food and this place had the perfect option. I got a tofu sandwich with sriracha sauce on a gluten free waffle and it hit the spot. Staff was really friendly as well and the food cart atmosphere is chill. I 100% recommend this place.
google avatar

Noriko R.

Yelp
We were nearby and kids were hungry so we stopped by the food carts. It was 11:30 am. My kids originally wanted to go to the crape store next door but it was not open yet so we decided to try this place. 30 mins later we were still waiting for our waffles and kids were getting crankier. Then the crape shop was open. We went to ask How many more we must wait for our waffle. If it would take much longer then we wanted to cancel it and go to the crape shop. She said it would be ready shortly. So we waited and waited and waited for another 15 mins. We got our food eventually but seriously who would take this long to make waffle sandwiches?
google avatar

Nick B.

Yelp
Thin waffles that make great sandwich bread. I find a fork and knife to be helpful. Sweet waffles are to die for!
google avatar

Maddy P.

Yelp
I've had one of their dessert waffles and it was delicious! Whipped cream and chocolate. You can't go wrong with that combo! The waffle had good flavor and texture. I tried their grilled cheese waffle. It was sure tasty. The waffle was sweet and actually made the grilled cheese taste better! My only complaint would be that the wait time for a waffle seems somewhat long. Even when they don't seem busy you still have to wait.

Fatimah I.

Yelp
Their powdered waffle dream is to die for. i don't know what is in that batter but that was one of the best waffles i've had. the slight tangy (fermented?) flavor reminded me of a breakfast pancake we eat in my country. it was a pleasant surprise. their maple butter is also a new fave. appreciate the staff for the incredible service & for wrapping my order individually as requested. will try again soon :)
google avatar

Michelle E.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time and it didn't disappoint. Ordered the Holla and I will be back to try other waffle sandwiches .
google avatar

Tee L.

Yelp
Soooo good!! One of the first places we ate when we got to OR! They are so nice and the food is so delicious!! I thought the waffle and the sausage would taste differently than they do because I'm from the south but we were pleasantly surprised how delicious it was!! Definitely going back!
google avatar

Taylor J.

Yelp
I'd been putting of trying this place because it sounded like it could be hit or miss since I'd never had anything like it before. I WISH I'D TRIED IT SOONER! We ordered the Amsterdam with aioli and the Holla and went halfsies. AMAZING! Before we even got to the car we agreed to come back soon.
google avatar

Alison B.

Yelp
Smaaken is a food pod in the BG Food Cartel near the Beaverton Central Max station. These sandwiches are amazing and are waffles instead of bread! They have so many options including many vegan and vegetarian options. I highly recommend trying this, you'll never look at sandwiches the same again.

Rayonna T.

Yelp
First time being to this place in Beaverton, Oregon. I am in town visiting family and this sandwich was amazing! I never tried a waffle as "bread" on a sandwich. It was very fulfilling and I also purchased their waffle fries! I loved the greeting and customer service provided. Really friendly people. I'll be back again before leaving Oregon.

maritza s.

Yelp
I wish I could leave something less than a 1! This has been the worst experience ever. I've been coming here for the past year. I came in on a regular day and asked for my normal order, they had incorrectly given me the wrong order. I called and tried to address this, the employee that answered the phone told me to stop by when were open and do "WHATEVER"? Wow I'm just surprised at the fact that they would treat there customers this way. Lack of respect and truly I'm never coming here again and will make sure none of my friends, co workers, family etc come here. Not the type of customer service you would expect from this place. I would suggest you work on this if you want to stay in business.
google avatar

Kay T.

Yelp
10 out of 10! I love their vegan and vegetarian options. They're delicious and light and don't make you feel heavy and on a sugar high like a traditional waffle. The Portlander on a vegan waffle with fresh spinach was dynamite! It's not a vegan dish, but it's so flavorful and fresh. Or the coco-nana is always a great choice if you want something sweet. These folks never disappoint and we've been ordering delivery for quite some time now.

Devon P.

Yelp
This was our first visit to Portland and we decided to stop at Smaaken and between the awesome food and the excellent service we were provided we are blown away. A must try.
