The Best and Hottest New Burgers to Try in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Bay Area smash burger specialist Smack Burger runs a tight ship from a bright yellow A-frame building one block away from the 10 on Western Avenue. The crew quickly assembles smashed patties on a potato roll with grilled onions on the bottom, a layer of cheese on the top, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and a tangy proprietary Smack sauce. They’ve got plenty of add-ons with onion rings or Mike’s Hot Honey. The beef tallow waffle fries are as delicious as they sound, especially when covered in cheese, onions, and more of that Smack sauce. — Mona Holmes, editor, Eater Southern California/Southwest Know before you go: Try the Baydestrian Box with a double cheeseburger, waffle fries, a drink, and Smack sauce." - Rebecca Roland

Ordered the Big Smack with a Snack Box (combo including Beef Tallow Fries and a Drink) and a side of Onion Rings. Their Big Smack burger comes with 2 flattened patties, American cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and smack sauce. This burger was a bit more salty around the edges but had an alright amount of cheese and pickles spread on top. Aside from the flat patties, there is not much that stands out especially at the price offered. The beef tallow fries were cut waffle style and were pleasant to eat, a touch more enjoyable than the burger. The fries also came with a thousand island dressing and there were ranch and barbecue sauce options too. The Onion Rings were chunky onion rings that had a nice crunch to them. This place is located directly on a high traffic street but fortunately there are convenient vehicle entrances to the adequately sized parking lot. The staff were very nice and courteous. There is a roof above the ordering and eating area, there are no seats but there is standing space by the counter tables against the walls facing the street.

I loved it here! Bacon and fries was little over cooked, it was too crispy and not for me. But I really enjoyed the burger and sauces taste. Also I will bring my friends when they got LA from Korea.

Google
Yo! I've been waiting to try them, and Smack Burgers is worth the wait! They came from the Bay to LA in perfect style! I got the Baydestrian Burger. 2-6pm is happy hour, so for $9.99 I got the double burger AND fries. (fried in BEEF TALLOW rather than harmful seed oils!) The burger was Shmackin and the seasonings were abundant! The waffle fries were crispy and stayed hot down to the last one. It's on Western Ave. just a block north of the 10fwy. I gotta go back and try the different burgers, and the Strawberry Lemonade was 🔥 and had real strawberries in it! I spilled some of the smack sauce on my shirt and I'm not mad at smelling like a Smack Burger! 🤣 You gotta go get you one! 🍔

Google
BURGER FYE! Smack fries FYE! Strawberry Lemonade FYE! Will be back! I drank the lemonade up before I took a picture. I wish it was a bigger cup for the strawberry lemonade because I need more! Waffles fries were good too. Love the fact it’s fries in beef tallow!

Google
While a new contender to the smash burger game, Smack burger is no slouch. Simple but delicious flavors. A little pricey, but worth treating yourself. The staff is very friendly and eager to serve.

Google
There are lots of pictures of what you can get. I wanted to show what happens to that food. The fries are made with beef tallow and as you can see ... not a crumb remains. My friend and I enjoyed a double Smack Burger each. Nothing left of them either. Just sayin.

Google
Excellent smash burger that is actually smashed with grilled onions and ample cheese. Excellent onion rings (so rare to find anywhere). Open air seating and its own parking lot. A great place for a summer burger. I will be returning. Update: I returned and the Bacon Smeeze Burger was seriously amazing. Such an excellent burger joint.

Google
1st time coming here... the food was Good 👍 the combo comes with Criscut fries 🍟 and a CAN soda.... The guy in the window taking your order is very nice and attentive... Even though the Burgers 🍔 are a Little Pricey, they're worth it... $40 for 2 combos

Yelp
I absolutely love this place since the first day i stopped here with my mom, hands down bussin!!

Yelp
**Review for food truck in Bay Area** The patty is so juicy and delicious! We tried the: Big Smack, Baydestrian, Bacon Smeeze and the loaded fries (totally beats animal fries at In N Out). I can say the best one for me was the Baydestrian, but man the smack sauce and boy, it completed the burger. That sauce was SMACKIN'. The guys helping out in the food truck were friendly, fast, and attentive. This was parked outside of a brewery so what better way to get burgers and beers?! Because it was parked in the (back) parking lot of the brewery, I thought it was a sociable environment welcoming dogs, kids and laughter.

Yelp
Great food. Great service super clean. One of the best burgers. Easy parking Had the cheese burger . Amazing

Yelp
The burger was good the onion rings were delicious and the fries as well. But my only concerned is that I order from uber eats and I hope they see it. But please, please can you cover the cup lid with something, it didn't have tape or wasn't in a small bag and I have to throw it away. cause you never know. I'm sure that pink lemonade is good. But I couldn't risk it. That's my only concern. But anyways the food was good.

Yelp
Wanted a burger and it was solid. I'd rather spend money here than in n out. I only tried the baydestrian and it was really yummy! Maybe a little steep on the price compared to in n out but its okay once in a while. They do have a little parking lot which is nice. High traffic area tho so keep that in mind . I would come again with more people to try more things .

Yelp
The burgers here are absolutely delicious! I'm obsessed with their fries as well, so good! Everything is well seasoned and cooked perfectly. It service was friendly, they are efficient and hard-working. The prices are worth it as the portions are large, filling and satisfying. The food was made to order quickly and they have plenty of easy parking as well as indoor seating. Great option if you're looking for a delicious burger in the area! Highly recommended!

Yelp
Went three or four times now! Had the smack fries and the hellapeno my first time and they exceeded my expectations. Every time i've gone back it's like the first. Love that they even have a happy hour if you're on a budget but want a great meal, the fries are included with the burger of your choice if i'm not mistaken! and it's near my area!? A plus. A special thank you to Ashley and the staff as well who has attended me the times i've gone, with great hospitality and food! Will be back soon.

Yelp
The happy hour is such a good deal. $10 for any burger and fries. The fries are actually good. Usually waffles fries are trash, but theirs are crispy. The burger is solid, too. But it's a little... dare I say... over seasoned lol. Whatever seasoning blend they use, they were heavy handed with it so I thought it was a bit salty. I tried the smack sauce and ranch. Definitely get the smack sauce (their house made burger sauce). I think the regular prices are kind of high; there are other good smash burger spots with a similar concept and better prices. But I'll likely be back for happy hour again.

Yelp
Ok today we were hunting for something new. We failed on two other joints but found this little gem in the rough. First off parking is easy. Second go during happy hour. Any burger and waffle fries for $10.00. (2/27/2025) add a coke of course. Total bill for two was like 25... a bargain. The burgers and the fries were served piping HOT. The Smeeze bacon burger is a double (2X 1/3 lbs patties) Cheese onions bacon bbq sauce. Onions yes lots of em. The waffle fries are crispy and tasty. Our food was delivered fairly fast but the extra piping hot fries and burger were worth the extra moment of waiting. Service was good and provided by people happy to be there! Both of us really enjoyed our burgers and fries. We like this joint but think it could use a little more decor to liven it up a bit. I went back again with another person and we had a very good experience. This really is a very accessible (for now) burger in LA's sea of tacos Smack is a breath of fresh air. This is a solid burger joint in Korea town.

Yelp
Very clean, nice resturant, and friendly customer service. Ordered the Hellapeno Box smash burger - double cheese patty, onion rings, bacon, bbq sauce, grilled onions, and there secret sauce. Very tasty burger smash burger. Love it that comes with waffle fries a little different than all other smash burger spots. For sure I'll come back if in the area.

Yelp
Smack Burgers opened last year and recently got the chance to try it. The interior decor is pretty cool with the black and yellow theme. They have two entrances leaving both wide open. Problem with this is that, with the recent LA fires, I'm not sure if it was ashes or dust but it was accumulating a bit on the countertops. They have no TV's so you can't watch a game while chowing down. Food: The menu is really simple. Every burger has 2 smash patties. I got the Bacon Smeeze which is like a BBQ Burger. The burger was okay. It lacked BBQ sauce it barely had BBQ sauce on the burger. The waffle fries are seasoned and they tasted good. Very similar to Carl's Jr Crisscut Fries. Overall: Nothing special or nothing stands out to me at Smack Burgers. Kind of disappointed since I was excited to try with my friend who lives down the block. The Bacon Smeeze box combo (fries + soft drink) comes out to $21.35. I'm not quite sure if the meal was worth $21. There are better tasting options out there for even cheaper prices. I didn't see any promos for happy hour so I'm not sure if they still have that promo. Most likely won't come back unless the happy hour exists and I'll try a different burger to give it a second shot.

Yelp
This place is fantastic!! Make sure to try all the different sauces, great service, really nice small spot, excellent burgers and fries

Yelp
Unexpectedly came across this place as my fiance and I were driving to a different burger place. We decided to try this spot to try something new and I'm happy we did. The service was very nice and the place is basically a cute little burger joint. We luckily came during happy hour so prices were very good and we spent way less than we expected. The food was also bomb. The trench fries were amazing. They were seasoned perfectly, and the burger sauce they gave me on the side was perfect to dunk them in. The burgers were also delicious. My fiance got they plain Jane and he said the patties were seasoned perfectly. Even though it was out of the way, we definitely will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
OMG so good!!! Service is quick and menu simple Burgers are seasoned deliciously and each burger is double patties They have a happy hour time when you can get your meals as combos Casual inside dining with open seating and open floor plan You will definitely not be disappointed! Hi order that Baydestrian and thank me later Provecho/Bon Appetit

Yelp
You know the food is good when you start feeling sleepy After getting my dog trained me and my man we're hungry and our first option is always a burger. So we wanted to get something closer to home and I was like smack burger, we seen it on tik tok and always drive by so why not give the restaurant a try. My boyfriend went inside and ordered literally didn't even take 20 minutes. Boyfriend walked out with a greasy bag. I was a little hesitant only because I haven't had waffle fries since Chick-fil-A and I stopped eating Chick-fil-A because it was trash so this was the first time me eating waffle fries in a very long time but I was open to it.. anyways got our order and we ate a french fry in the car and it tasted so damn good. Came home immediately started eating burger amazing. I got the bacon sneeze and my bf got burger as well idk the name, but it was fire. Definitely coming back

Yelp
We stopped at this place to give it a try, but did not realize how expensive they were. After debating we decided to give them a try. One of the reasons is the cashier (girl) was so friendly and helpful explaining the menu to us. After ordering the food it came fairly quick, one of the burgers was ordered with no cheese but they made a mistake. not only did the cook stand behind the mistake and made another burger, but he also gave us the mistake burger at no charge. Hands down they may be a little on the expensive side, but their burgers are so good and worth it. The service was excellent; I crave good service so hands down we will definitely be going back again.

Yelp
Welcoming from the moment I walked in. Doris was great. She told me all about the "Bougie Burgers!" And t's Happy Hour!!! 2-6pm and all burgers include fries!!!! I got the Hellapeña Burger! I loved it! The waffle fries are outstanding. They are crispy and flavorful. Smack Burger definitely smacks your tastebuds!
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
Ive been on a burger tear recently, and Smack Burger didn't disappoint. Out of all the smash type burgers I've tried, this one is definitely the best so far. I got the "Baydestrian" Burger, and it was seasoned to perfection. Don't forget to add pickles, because it doesn't come with any. The onion rings and waffles fries are also cooked to perfection. The place is clean, simple menu, and the cashier was super chill.

Yelp
Trying out this spot for lunch! It was good. We went for a 24 mile bike ride and we were hangry by the end of it. He wanted a burger, and I wanted to try something new...voila! I got the plain Jane because...that's my style. It was so good. Smash burger style patties. Great bun and cheese. Chris got the big smack and was happy too! We split the seasoned waffle fries! The drinks were...okay. Not a lot of ice, it seemed like maybe something was broken. Price was a okay, maybe a little steep but $18 is pretty typical these days. It was a great experience, just one thing that made it 4 stars...no bathroom to wash our hands before eating. The employee was kind and wet some napkins for us though. We will be back

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch while my cat was at the groomer. I got the Big Smack combo that comes with waffle fries and a soda. The burger was incredibly well-seasoned. I don't usually care for thin patties but this was a great version of that style burger. And the burger was very filling - I couldn't finish the whole meal. The person who took my order and the rest of the staff were all very friendly and the space was airy and incredibly clean. They also threw in a tiny gummy burger which was a cute touch.
google avatar

Yelp
The food tasted ok. The service was good, staff was quick and professional. Location was cool since it's right off the freeway. Ambiance is ok.

Yelp
Food was good and the service was even better. The place is small so I would recommend getting there a little earlier or after the lunch hour. I got the baydestrian with bacon and asked for the sauce on the side, cut in half. The fries needed a little salt but they were still really good. It's called Smack burgers for a reason because it makes you wanna smack someone since it's so good. If it was near me then I'd eat here instead of in-n-out
google avatar

Virginia B.

Yelp
I came here for their happy hour and got two hellapeño burgers with fries. This whole meal felt like a treat and isn't something that I would normally eat (I admittedly did take a nap after eating my burger and fries). The fries were soooo crispy due to the beef tallow that they're fried in. The fries pair perfectly with their house made Smack sauce. The burger itself was a trip! It had fresh jalapeños, bacon, and onion rings inside. It did take 15~ minutes for my order to be ready so be prepared to possibly wait.
google avatar

Leo H.

Yelp
All I can say is DAMN.. This is one of the best smashed burgers I had the Hellapeno is my favorite with the waffle fries full of flavor and the smack sauce is smacking service is amazing and the place is nice and clean.. but $22 for a burger and fries is kinda pricey but it was worth it..i was so hungry I forgot to take a picture maybe next time..lol

Jason C.

Yelp
First time eating here! I was in the area for work and took a chance. I had the bacon smeeze and it was absolutely amazing!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great smash burgers. Not only do they offer great food but they also provide a unique West Adams / Mid-City LA experience. Located right on Western Ave, you're guaranteed good food, great music, and LA culture. Tap in!
google avatar

Lillian S.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place because it was a NorCal based restaurant. But the overall experience was ok. Let's start with what we loved. The space is pretty cool, it looked like a drive up with a covered dining space. The color scheme was black and yellow. They have happy hour everyday from 2-6, $10 for most burger and fries. Very affordable and on par with what a burger should cost (5/5). The food is good (4/5) it would get a higher rating if the burger patties were a little thicker but the ingredients were quality. They serve waffle fries which are crispy. Why I would likely not come back though the wait for food was about 30-45 min. There was a line to order when we arrived there were about 4 groups in-front of us. And we came at 3pm. I think their happy hour starts at 2. I totally respect making food fresh to order but there's 4 burger options. When you're ordering from a window i think the expectation is for the food to come out a bit quicker. I think there is more leniency when it comes from a food truck because cooking space is limited. I think I would be more willing to come back if the wait wasn't so long.
google avatar

Latashia K.

Yelp
We tried this burger after watching the LATRYGUY. The burger was okay but the waffle fries were very tasty. My husband enjoyed the strawberry lemonade. The service was good and there were plenty seating.
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Brenda and staff was very friendly and informative about the happy hour specials and menu. Clean/simple inside. Fries are amazing but need salt. Sauces are good. Everything needed salt. But not greasy. Onions on patty need to be cooked more, super stringy and long. Presented well.

Shamus H.

Yelp
A friend visiting from Oakland was so excited to see a Smack Burger in our neighborhood. It was good to hear they are a bay area chain because otherwise the place didn't look like much, but I set an intention to pay them a visit. Just went today and had the most delicious burger. Double smash burger with cheese, pickles, and a ton of grilled onions. Happy hour prices were fire. I'll be bringing the kids next time for some fast and delicious smash burger goodness.

Yelp
Harvard Heights, you're blessed with a gem! Smack Burgers brought the HEAT! First-time visit, and I'm hooked on the Bacon Smeeze - juicy patties, crispy bacon, melted cheese, and BBQ sauce symphony! But hold up, free waffle fries during Happy Hour (2-6pm)?! Yes, lawd! Co-worker said buns were too soft? More like, perfectly toasted clouds! Vibe? Electric. Service? Fire. Don't sleep, LA! Smack Burgers is the move. *Happy Hour Hack:* 2-6pm, weekdays. *Flavor MVP:* Bacon Smeeze + Waffle Fries *Return Alert:* ASAP #SmackBurgers #BaconSmeeze #HappyHour #UrbanYum #FoodComa #YelpReview #FoodieFind #MustTry #LosAngelesEats #HarvardHeights #BurgerLove #FlavaTown

Yelp
OMG I pass in front of this place daily AM & PM and it always look dead when I pass , but I was curios because I've been craving a smash burger. They did not disappoint, friendly guys there and there was actually a lot of customers eating inside. They happy hour 2pm-6pm. I got the Baydestrian burger its was delicious ! The waffle fries and onion dam that batter was so good! Their ranch and smack sauce I cannot believe how good this food was. The place is clean pretty spacious has big parking lot. They have really good customer service there was like an 8 yr old in front of me alone waiting to order and the guy at the window was so nice to him definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Anabel B.

Yelp
Man! This place is underrated. Can't beat the happy hour menu! Quality of food was spot on. Fries and ranch were my favorite. Definitely coming back to try another burger. Crew was awesome and plenty of parking too. Don't sleep on this place!
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
First timers and the young man recommended the Hellapeño burger and I got the Smack Burger. We went during happy hour and food was pretty bomb!! Customer service was great as well!
google avatar

Nate J.

Yelp
Love this place! Happy hour is a great deal and the burger and fries are always fresh and delicious! Glad to have this spot in my neighborhood
google avatar

Denise S.

Yelp
Solid 4.5 (rounding up for yelps sake). I'm gluten-free so I could only eat a few of the burgers (tho I'm sure if I asked, they could have removed an onion ring for the hellapeno burger). That said, I got a burger bowl which is the burger of your choice over shredded lettuce instead of a bun. My partner got a baydestrian and my dad got a hellapeno. Everyone really liked their burger + fries. Pricier than surrounding fast food options but you get great quality and flavor in exchange - much needed in this neighborhood! They're super friendly, and answered every q I had. The whole place had a chill vibe. Would recommend!
google avatar

Deo L.

Yelp
These burgers sure do smack and the fries are super crispy and flavorful ! Glad I found this place while driving on the 10

Alex G.

Yelp
Be careful about their "happy hour" they advertise 9.99 but charge you 12.99 comes out to 14. Burgers & fries are SO good just wish they were honest about prices.

Isaiah R.

Yelp
For two bayyy.. burgers w one drink it came out to $24 One thing I wish I knew is to have the bread toasted(more?), I feel as if the bread was saggy like my butt. And kinda made it nasty to hold up Overall the burger was excellent and definitely will come here again! I give this place 4/5 big booms ! Btw free refill ( nice since places love to charge my broke ahh $1 for a refill)
google avatar

Isa L.

Yelp
Grand opening today. Excellent place. Burgers were great. Highly recommended. Staff were very friendly. Place was renovated and everything looks very clean. Has a convenient parking lot. Will be back soon.
google avatar

Shawn A.

Yelp
First time here. Drove by and had to check out. It was fire. The burger was really good. Place was clean. Service was great. Spent $40 on 3 happy hour meals and 2 drinks. Free refill on drinks. Their sauce is great and they give you extra. Not stingy on the sauce. I would come back.
google avatar

Yelp
i finally got over to this place after 6 days of trying but now I see it was a reason why I couldn't get over here and I should have taken the hint, because after getting there I see a burger is 14 bucks so I asked how much for the fries and I was told 6 bucks so of course I'm not getting no o especially 6 dollar fries because the burger is already too hi but let me see if it's worth it although no burger is worth it because at that price your being deprived from 3 or 4 more burgers because no burger are worth that inspite of Terriffs and you know it because any burger is only worth what they were which is about 2.99 to 3.50. so as I get the burger I was thinking I was on some prank show because the 14 dollar TASTELESS burger, it was literally fitting in the palm of my hand and yes I was mad AS HELL but again, I tried it but will never eat here again and at these prices and as small as it it, it's not worth it so I had to post pics of this mess, plus they say they're giving you 2 patties lol, no they're not. It's 1 pattiy that they've sliced down the middle making it seem like your getting 2 patties that are thin as pancakes. Now I'm one that doesn't post on yelp but this time was necessary. And I THINK it's black owned and if so, it's always our people thats the highest in prices when we have businesses hen wonder why we don't stay open long. Here's the pics but try it for yourself so you'll say to yourself, I'LL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN.

Yelp
Smack Burgers is the truth. One of the best burgers in LA and worth the trip. I've only tried smash burgers a few times and this was the best by far. I was even impressed with the fries. Hot, crispy, flavorful until the last one. Crazy work. Waffle fries are like the Cadillac of fries. Hard to go wrong. The service was great and the food came out fast. Lots of parking, good vibes and right off the freeway.

Robert T.

Yelp
Man oh man i have found me a new amazingly fire burger spot. Beyond good u won't be disappointed (Mush) the guy who took my order was very professional and polite
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to Smack Burgers twice now, and I love it. Their menu is creative, yet no-frills. Just straight up delicious burgers and fries that SMACK. The Bacon Smeeze w/ waffles fries is my go-to order. Love their in-house sauce. If you're craving a straight up smackin' good burger, definitely check out Smack Burgers! FYI: they also have food trucks in the Bay Area
google avatar

Joseph G.

Yelp
Amazing burgers and the workers were very clean. I highly recommend them if you like smash burgers! Great fries as well!
google avatar

Marleigh H.

Yelp
I really appreciated how clean it was, the grill was sparkling. The staff was friendly and gave me great recommendations about happy hour and was clear about costs. It is a little spendy, but it was one of the best burgers I've had in a while. We'll be back! I will add that their smack sauce isn't anything to write home about, I preferred their ranch and bbq.
google avatar

Yelp
Smack Burger is my favorite smash burger in the city. Stop by and say hi to Darnell, he's the man. This is welcome addition to this part of Ktown. I love the onion rings
